Morton lost their last 3 games whilst we are off the back of our best result of the season……2 points above us so opportunity comes calling this Saturday and time for our revenge after being pumped 5 nil last time. Hopefully another clean week regarding injuries and players recovering and come 5pm we will be up to 5th

I certainly hope we justify your optimism, Big G, but football is never as logical as that. 3 points would be fantastic, but I`d take a draw right now if it was offered. Make no mistake, Morton are a decent side and they`ll be desperate to stop the rot.

No team is all about one player but Mortons poor form coincided with their striker George Oakley picking up an injury. Our makeshift defence found him really difficult to deal with in the 0-5 game, he scored a hatrick against United, and picked up player of the month last month. Hopefully he`s still unavailable this weekend but even if he does play it should be interesting to see how our new more solid defence handles him.
Otoo vs Power should be an entertaining battle too.
Looking forward to this one.

I would take a point right now.
As mentioned I don’t expect the same level of performance twice in a row however if it was to happen it would be a massive 3 points in terms of taking relegation playoffs pressure off and giving us a opening to look at the promotion playoffs.

Just need to be up for a battle. Morton are very direct & physical, lots long balls fired in and corners, long throws and all the rest of it.
Effective for them but if we can stand up to the physical stuff we have more quality than them.

Breen and Kane are in the squad this week according to the manager on COWS. Wighton was getting a tidy-up op on his knee today and there`s a chance he and Comrie could become available towards the end of the season.
He was saying what a difference it makes to training when you have virtually a full squad available and you can also `protect` players who may have played when they would have benefited from a rest. He even hinted that the squad was maybe too big now (!) but was crediting the board for approving signings when we were stretched by injuries.

Mehmet has dithered 3 times ... first time he was fouled as he was hesitant ..second time came wandering along his bye line and was fortunate to concede a corner but my goodness he came wandering into no mans land in 47 minutes... Dunfermline defender was panicked into conceding a free kick which fortunately came to nothing.

That could be a massive result for our season - win next week and we are no longer in danger of bottom two hypothetically and with Partick at home after that then the top 4 could be on!
Another pen save from Mehmet - is he a specialist? Also another away clean sheet can only be a massive boost to his confidence, which is great for him!

Every team will get injuries but we have had more than you can expect especially long term ones.
I have have no doubt that we would be sitting comfortably in the top 4.
The plus side is that we have had to bring in some loans that could add to next season’s squad if they are available (Walcott & Hayes).

Good win well deserved.
Should have won it comfortably had some really good chances but chose the wrong option on the final pass.
Great to hear Bene barking at them from the back…….have we missed that!
Morton are a hard team but we didn’t let them intimidate us, gave as good as we got.
Next………….?

Morton gave us our worst defeat of the season but we took the other 9 points on offer which was a nice consolation. The penalty was a bit of a sickener but Deniz came good again.

That defeat is easily explained. McPake was forced to put out a young, inexperienced line up. Morton got their tactics spot on, getting in our faces from the off. Our approach of trying to play out from the back played into their hands....
Today`s team was able to handle Morton`s physicality much better. I said beforehand we had a chance, even though we`d lost heavily to them recently. I kept thinking about two games involving St Mirren and Celtic some years ago. In the league game, at Parkhead, Celtic won 7-0. The following week, St Mirren knocked Celtic out of the Scottish Cup in a 1-0 win in Paisley.
Perhaps our win today is even more remarkable, given that we lost heavily at home and won away.....

You save a penalty that wins you a game coupled with keeping a clean sheet clears your debts for the day.

Great to see a fighting win where we had to hang onto a one-goal lead.
For much of the game, I don`t think we played that well, and particularly struggled with the wind behind us in the first half. First 20 minutes were really poor from us - couldn`t get into the game at all as we were given no space at all to play. We did manage to tighten it up after that and, although most of the first half was played in our half, we didn`t look in much danger after the first 20. It was a poor game, but we recovered well enough to deserve to be level at half-time.
Second half also started badly as we were pushed back. However, a corner and suddenly a goal out of nowhere. It was a decent short corner move and a decent header, but the keeper probably should have got a hand to it to push it over the bar. And then, suddenly, we started to play quite well for a bit. For 10-15 mins we were well on top and looked quite good, including the chance to go 2-0 up where it hit the post then the rebound was blocked on the line. Didn`t really look like one where I`d say he should have done better.
With Strapp going off and us no longer having to struggle against that long throw, which is one of their main threats, I hoped we might see it out fairly comfortably - ha! For a while, it was heavy pressure, including a chance that looked like a 5-yard tap-in that was somehow blocked, though difficult to see exactly what happened from the far end. Didn`t look much in it for the penalty, though not a great view of that either. After that tough spell, we managed to settle again and the last few mins weren`t too scary.
Really pleased that we managed to win after not playing that well, and especially so that we managed to survive a spell of intense pressure. I think that`s the first time we`ve won 1-0 this season. Well done to them all for getting through it and getting the points.
The rainbow in the first half after the heavy shower was nice as well.

If Otoo hadn`t given the ref a decision to make with his challenge there wouldn`t have been a penalty to save. Every possible error Mehmet makes gets pointed out while outfield players get off Scot free. I thought the Morton goalie might have done better at our goal but we`re talking about the Scottish Championship.

Somehow or other the word "bombscare" has become the go-to word for fans to use when they don`t think a defender is of the right standard. I`ve seen it used this evening by 3 different fans about Deniz Mehmet after a match in which his penalty save was worth at least 2, maybe 3, points, and in which his opposite number was partly to blame for the Pars goal.
I think I first heard "bombscare" being used regularly of Sol Bamba. Sol went on to play in the top leagues of Scotland, England, Italy and Turkey, as well as being capped 46 times.
Sometimes fans` judgment just doesn`t align with that of professional managers.

Mehmet makes saves from close range, defenders on their heels and striker scores rebound `Mehmet useless`. Other team exactly the same but their defenders clear `top save there`.
Airdrie game `Mehmet should`ve come for that cross` even though defending was awful. 2 mins later exact same thing in Airdrie box but McCann completely mistimes his jump and ball is cleared. No one mentions Airdrie goalie didn`t come for the cross. Mehmet is getting a hard time, even though Raith goalie excepted, I haven`t seen anyone better in this league.

There are other considerations that need to be taken into account for goalkeeping ‘errors’ too; Does the ball move slightly in the air? Does the keeper have full vision of the strike/header? Does he have a clear path to where he predicts he can catch/punch the ball? Only the keeper can answer those questions, and only from his viewpoint on the field, he doesn’t have the benefit of the panoramic view from the stands/TV screen, and he often has to make a split second decision on what he’s going to do. Unless it’s an absolute howler, I would always give the keeper the benefit of the doubt.

Mehmet Is phish, 2nd choice at every club he has played at, he doesn`t command his area and his distribution is awful.
His penalty saves make up for his howlers this season
He literally drops the ball every 2nd game, comes to try claim it and flaps about like a Swan.
I`ve said it before and I`ll say it again,
I`ve seen enough great keepers in a pars shirt in the Championship to know he is nowhere near good enough.

Aye, and you`re the guy who said we were lucky at Firhill because their goalie parried the ball straight to MFW. Would you have said they were lucky if it had happened at the other end? You also thought we were lucky because an assistant got an offside decision right though so it`s difficult to make much sense of your posts.

I`ve also seen outfield players in Pars` shirts who were much better than the current crop - irrelevant, we are where we are.
And some of our former top-class keepers were not immune from making absolute howlers - I can think of a few.
The fact is that at present we are a mid-table club in the second division of Scottish football and are unlikely to attract or to be able to afford a Premiership-class keeper. Mehmet is far from the worst keeper in this league and thanks to him I`m enjoying yesterday`s result - I would be far more annoyed at my keeper if I were a Morton fan - well off his line in the 1st half when Mehmet almost scored, and not best-positioned when MWH did score.

On another day Todd would`ve been flagged offside,
Christ everyone watching that game was expecting the flag to go up. It wasn`t until the replay we seen how good a run it was by Todd.
We got the rub of the green v Partick and ran out 3-1 winners on another day that game could`ve easily been 2 each why is that so hard for you to understand?
As for the Partick keeper parrying it back into the danger zone. The point there is that goal could`ve been avoided alot easier than alot of the other goals Partick have conceded this year.
It is also a mistake our keeper is prone to making

Re otoo have you watched the highlights? the challenge isn’t even in the box min it was a typical dive from quitongo totally conned the ref and the Lino mind you if the pair of them had been keeping up with play they would have seen it was a clear dive and outside the box as well

I don`t find it strange after reading quite a few of his posts.
All I can say is I hope he is never selected for jury duty, going by his conclusions on here.
Mehmet didn`t drop the ball or faff anything. He was blatantly barged out the way. Definite foul on the keeper. Then he pulled off a magnificent save.
Just wondering if he buggered Wee Mike`s budgie or something.

I genuinely can`t think of many goalkeepers in the championship who are head and shoulders above Mehmet. Haven`t been that impressed by Dundee United`s keepers when called upon. Dabrowski is a better shot stopper but makes twice as many howlers (despite being in a better team). Partick thistle are having a shambolic goalkeeper merry go round. Morton`s keeper should`ve saved our goal. Not sure who people are hoping for in the championship

He was fouled in the lead up to the pen, I havent blamed him for being at fault there,
That doesn`t change from my opinion that as GK go he is s hite
He puts the fear into me even when he has a kick out from a pass back.
His distribution is poor, his handling and his movement are suspect,
All key attributes a goalkeeper should possess
A big well done to him yesterday but GK is still one of the first positions I`d be improving in that team

So, we had a reasonable start to the season, looking relatively optimistic. Then the worst injury crisis in living memory resulting in a rock bottom run of form. Gubbed five nil at home by a decidedly average but streetwise Morton side.
Fast forward a couple of months, nearly at full strength, signs of momentum, just pumped the league favourites on telly and then ground out a hugely important win against Morton away.
And your contribution to the forum? Slating the guy who saved his third penalty in a row towards the end of the match to secure victory.

For stats lovers, there`s a 1.38% chance of a keeper preventing 3 penalties in a row from being scored.
It`s probably under 1% for them to save all 3.
Mind you, he probably should have held the one at Starks Park - all he did was parry it back into play and present them with another chance...

The more he saves, the greater the mental pressure on any player taking a penalty against him in future.
Let`s put it about that he`s saved ten in a row ... :)

Otoo hit the ball and it looked to be outside the box when the Morton player falls. Never a penalty in the first place.
