Perhaps he wanted to keep QP guessing until the last possible minute, rather than deliberately p!ssing folk off?

Very lucky not to concede there. The defence fell asleep and their striker took it past Tobi but missed the goal. Queens coming into the game now.

Currently sitting far too deep and inviting pressure. Can`t get out at all. Not sure if Ritchie-Hosler has touched the ball yet? Steak pie was nice but very expensive.

Yep, pretty much been coming for the last 10 minutes. Rudden turned him inside and out and nobody was alive to the run unto the box from deep. We look a beaten team already. Fans not happy at the constant backwards passes and lack of movement.

Do well to get anything from this game.

It’s all a bit pointless watching us these days, a manager phoning it in just waiting for the sack and players who need to play out their skin just to look like they can compete at this level.

If we don’t go down this season we need to clear the decks and he’re hoping the manager is long gone by then.

Two really good blocks with the feet from Tobi keeping us in the game. We are thinking the place out. Passes all over the place, they can`t control a ball, everything is slow and laboured, we`re trying to play out from the back and getting caught out, Dapo again not passing when Ritchie-Hosler was free on the right, Clay offering nothing, we aren`t even creating much from set plays (although the ref isn`t giving us many free kicks to be fair). Really hard to see how we get something from this game though. It`s really bad and we don`t have the excuse from the game here last season that we have an injury crisis.

Not got anything from a league game after going behind since the 3-3 at Ayr. Love to see that changing but maybe wishful thinking.

How long do we go on like this?

The manager doesnt appear to see anything wrong with the position or lack o results, more happy with decent performances but when does it start to become an actual problem.

No one thought we would actually go down the season we did and it happened

Way too many players who are not nearly capable at this level.

Slow upstairs and 2nd to every ball because of this.

Absolute bowfing and should be 3 down.

Mcpake needs to change shape and personnel at ht to try and get something out of this.

That forward line / attacking formation is howling

We have managed to make Queen’s look much better than what they actually are.
Need to ring the changes at half time.

Get McCann through the middle and see if he can win some balls and get us up the pitch.

I’d throw Todd, Cooper and Hamilton on

How McPake stays manager after this is just baffling to me. The performances have been absolutely dire minus 2 games, and that`s what`s probably saving him from the sack, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. Regardless of what is going on regarding the sale of the club, our stock is going down week after week, and McPake has got to be on the sharp end of that. Get him to feck!

I honestly don’t think McPake is the “positive” vibes type of manager.

I get the feeling he’s a kicking stuff about the dressing room type of manager.

100%

I have had radio Scotland on this afternoon they have spent 2 hours taking David gray and malkay mackay apart at hibs nothing better to talk about. Even if hibs are mince Gray is on a hiding ton nothing he is opposite of mcpake having to make best of what he’s got and other folk involved in signing players..

No idea what they would say about mcpake if they bothered to turn attention to the championship

Looked like McCann was being held back in the box but despite the lineman having a perfect view, nothing doing. Then McCann had the ball in the net but he was penalised for a soft handball. Hamilton just had a cross from deep that was dropping in but the keeper pulled off a great save.

It shouldn’t get to the stage for fans to be shouting about it but here we are! Nothing is going to happen from the boardroom unless it gets dire - as in clinging on for dear life. I’ve stopped sticking up for him because I don’t think he’s making the best of what we’ve got even tho I can see it from his point of view that he’d feel like he didn’t really get a fair crack of the whip.

At this stage tho, I’m not that bothered. I’m more bothered about us being relegated

We`ve been far better this half but as soon as Chalmers lost it and the space opened up you just knew what was going to happen. He`d done the hard bit winning the ball back then just seemed to trip over the ball or something.

Sutherland on for Dapo who looked like he picked up a hamstring knock.

Airdrie being even worse than us is our only saving grace.

Newly promoted Falkirk, 32 points, goal difference of 19.
Us, 9 points, goal difference of -5
What is the difference between them and us? A manager that knows what he is doing.

Make no mistake. Queen’s Park are not a good side and they have now done the double over us.

What I don’t get is that there were no surprises today. We played them not that long ago yet we are forced into changing a third of the team pretty early on

No point in putting the effort in if you cannot score goals ! and we all know this is where our problem lies ,
When we were on top in the second half we couldn`t make it count here we go with stats , 19 attempts at goal and only 4 on target , and befor I get quoted from others about other teams ! I am not interested in other teams
I would have took the point and moved onto next week , but there is hardly a game goes by that we do not gift other teams a goal ! its frustrating ,
a result today would have had us above Morton , closer to Raith and Hamilton and away from Airdrie
Next saturday is a must win Game against Airdrie
I keep thinking we have some half decent players , but at the same time I am thinking there is a few that are probably not good enough , and the manager has to take the blame for his team selection and the way we set up
Another Saturday Night where I am totally pi55ed off
I would much rather come here and give praise for a win or a draw but I don`t see that happening anytime soon , effort alone does not win games ! it is goals that wins games and we lack in that department

We’ve been a terribly ran club for years and we have a terrible manager in our ranks too. It looks like we’re only going one way and the attendances are going to dwindle too. The only hope is that the new owners come in before the end of the year and are competent.

Still too many players taking potshots from outside the box instead of playing it in to the strikers. The one goal we scored was from a rare ball played in to the penalty box area. Hence only 4 shots on target from 19 shots.

It has to be last chance saloon for McPake next Saturday.

Never it all my years watching the Pars can I remember so many inept first half performances….zero attempts on target is the norm, then a bit of a second half rally that is usually too little too late.

How many times has he made two or even three subs at half time? He picks the team and gets it wrong more often than he gets it right. Chopping and changing things week in week out to no avail. It’s pitiful.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Genuinely dont know what a new manager would do and how long it would take and what it would cost and can we afford it? Or new players availibility?

I dont know if a new manager can prevent a defender getting turned inside out and leading to a goal. Or a midfielder coming on and giving the ball away and losing a goal.

Genuinely no idea.

We have a bunch of players right now and at their best are reasonable as we saw against Livi.

Lots also not right in terms of scoring.

No idea if a prolific scorer is available to us. Or can be.

What fans can do, and we have been here before, is to support them, give them confidence. I understand the frustration but if all the options that others are asking for are not available, thats all we have.

Confidence and support from the fans is a huge ingredient.

A manager can’t be at fault for individual errors however a manager can at least impart somewhat of a game plan on the players. We have little plan of how we are going to start scoring goals. Until we go behind then start playing more direct and trying to chase down the 2nd ball and even then that’s no much of a plan.

We had more of a plan earlier in his reign as manager. We would atleast attempt to get it wide and then cross balls in from the start of the match but even at that-the first half’s under McPake have been terrible in general.

If individual errors are being made by players who are clearly not good enough at this level you have to blame the manager.

One of the managers jobs is to sign players who improve us.

Mcpake is being buried by his signings of players who we all knew were not good enough and including players he inherited and then kept out of blind loyalty.

When he gets fired, he’ll have no complains and perhaps will have learned a few lessons on the recruitment side.

18 months ago, we finished 14 points ahead of them in the league. Now they’re miles ahead of us. I’d say it’s fairly relevant when judging performance and progression (or lack of) under current managers.

Once against Airdrie away when we were 3-0 down….he got it wrong….made subs before HT if memory serves me right and we went on to win 3-4…..helped by a pen and a dubious sending off.

I have lost count how many times we have been woeful first half and he has made changes at HT. Does he not know his players at all?….Seems like he doesn’t.

After Tam Forsyth, McPake is easily the worst manager I can remember, it’s an abosute s**t show just now and he does not have the excuse of multiple injuries this year.

He is just out of his depth as is his side kick……

Got to agree desperado.

Massive drop off in quality to league one and with most of the player under contract it’s wasn’t a hard job to win that league. That season Mcglynn had the same problem our next manager will have, stuck with a load of dross that were not good enough and had to get through the season to get them out and replace with better.

Then after promotion mcpake failed to realise it’s a much higher level against full time teams and kept players who were poor at this level last time they played. He also added a few of his or Dave’s old mates to the team. An injury crisis hid the inadequate tactics and negative set up of the team but we did pick up enough points to survive.

This season airdrie being terrible has saved us from being bottom, the same poor players are making the same bad decisions and were left floundering again while the bench is packed full of players mcpake signed to be mainstays of the team.

You genuinely don’t know where the next win is coming from, raith got a man sent off and we were good against a livi team who didn’t turn up.

Given our league position and performances, the only game on paper we should win is next Saturday.

Revisionism at its finest. That preseason after we were relegated McGlynn signed players left right and centre including Coll Donaldson, Stephen McGinn and Rumain Burrell etc and folk on here were confidently predicting we would do well to reach the play offs with Falkirk romping to the title.

McPake may have made a few bad mistakes since we won that league but he absolutely owned McGlynn that season while the rape apologist flapped around counting corners

Can someone explain how an injury crisis hid the inadequate tactics and negative set-up of the team? Should we be hoping for a similar crisis this season to get us out of trouble? I seem to remember we made a decent start to the League last season before the injuries kicked in.

Their second goal is absolutely shocking from Chalmers.

Giving the ball away cheaply like that is bad enough, granted everyone makes mistakes, but look at that `effort` to cover back and the try win the ball back.

I don`t agree with the injury crisis masking anything.Even mcpake said we can`t use as an excuse. We were a poor team as anyone could see last year and we needed to improve the team.

We have got even worse since last season we lost arguably our only threat in Edwards and haven`t replaced him with someone who is nearly the same quality. We have yet again made rushed signings who have failed to make the team better. Let`s not even mention the nationwide embarrassment of not knowing the rules when trying signing a goalkeeper.

We also have a home grown player who is the only striker scoring goals at the club and we insist on playing a striker with more yellow cards than goals or assists this season ahead of him albeit the penny might be dropping in that respect.

If you watch the squad over the first 13 league games it`s abundantly obviously we cant defend against balls into our box. With 2 defenders organising training we don`t look like we have focused on A stopping crosses into the box or B having the awareness of how to deal with it. Couple that with the embarrassment at the top end of the pitch it`s not difficult to see why we are where we are in the league. It also shows no sign of improvement.

As I`ve mentioned before this squad seems to seriously lack fight and character both are essential in a relegation dog fight. Lets not beat around the bush with no improvement on the horizon we will be in a fight to stay in the league come the last few games of the season if we haven`t been cut away by everyone else by then.

c'mon the pars

Wasn`t it you who thought we finished 8th last season and not 6th? Maybe your memory isn`t so good.

Everyone`s got different opinions about what`s wrong but I don`t agree the squad lacks fight.

It`s me who said we were relegation bound if we didn`t improve after the car crash of a cup group. We haven`t improved and if early signs are anything to go by I wasn`t far off.

McPapke himself even hinted last night he can`t trust some of these players. Players who he either signed or gave new contracts. Managers live and die by their signings and unfortunately these lot are hanging him out to dry and he isn`t helping himself playing players who simply aren`t good enough.

c'mon the pars

Do you think they’re simply not good enough?

I do as well but they’re not performing at that level or getting the required results.

And btw I don’t think the squad is good enough for promotion but I do think we should be doing better than we are.

Honestly, relegation is inevitable at the moment.

Nothing`s `inevitable` in football. things change all the time. That`s one of its main attractions. It would help if the ownership issue was resolved though.

No you’re right anything can happen but I just don’t see it.

And tbf we should have Airdrie to rely on

Relegation playoffs look inevitable

Wee eck were you saying all the same things the year we went down?

I’d wager you were.

As were others last season, when we`d lost 5-0 at home to Morton and 3-0 to QP in consecutive matches.

I don`t like making definitive predictions but NMCmassive asked me a specific question so I tried to answer it. I think our fate is more likely to be decided in the last third of the season rather than the first third. I think the players Hughes had at his disposal should have kept us up but he messed it up.

This current squad shouldn`t be anywhere near 9th in the Championship.

In some ways I agree with the saline hill Puma
The position we are in at present is not just down to the Manager
A lot of these players really need to have a long look at themselves in a mirror , they seem to make the same mistakes week in week out and it always costs us !
Team selection at times well yes we can blame the Manager but once they cross that white line it`s up to the players !
My main observation is the amount of wild shots we have at the oppositions goal most attempts would be more suited to rugby , a wee bit of composure would be nice , I often wonder if they practice shooting in training
I still think we should be nowhere 9th but on current form the table does not lie

They practice shooting in the warm up.

Looks like the players were told to get more shots off but because we are so poor going forward we’re resorting to taking pot shots from 30 odd yards which are all over the place.

I’m not sure I subscribe to the players are good enough way of thinking. How many of these players are proven consistent performers at this level?

Looking at the starting 11 we had comrie, bene and wotherspoon, the rest haven’t proven they can cut it in this league. I would maybe include mebude but only if he remembers he can pass it.

So far this season, we`ve not looked anything like a well coached team.

2nd half yesterday was an exception. We were decent, looked like we had an idea how to attack them and were unlucky to lose a goal with a mistake that saw them create their only real chance of the half - aside from the breakaway when we were piling forward in injury time.

However, when you`ve got 9 points from 12 games, bad things tend to happen to you whether you deserve them or not.

I’m a bit baffled by McPake’s post-match comments.

I know that such interviews then to be rather bland despite the immediacy of the recording, but he appeared to admit that he picked the wrong team (whilst also blaming the players for not performing).

Now people (fans) were calling for the return of Fogarty. Wotherspoon appeared to be playing well, and whilst opinion on Clay appeared divided I wouldn’t have said that the initial team selection would have surprised many.

Did McPake suspect that players might play badly? Or that they wouldn’t play well together? The first half we looked laboured and uncoordinated and if it weren’t for Tobi making a couple of good saves we would have been at least two down. McCann’s timing of his jumps was really off and playing Dapo through the middle on his own wasn’t working. It was clear that big changes would be made as Chalmers, Hammy and Todd were all doing an intense warm up before half time and didn’t appear on the pitch at the break with the other 6 subs.

We went to 3-5-2, and whilst I’m not a great fan of that formation we were much more on the front foot – having two strikers within half a mile of each other always helps. It was annoying that we had two good penalty shouts ignored and that we didn’t seem to anticipate any of the breaks of the ball when Chalmers in particular was arcing crosses onto their keeper. Of course we lost another bad goal with multiple mistakes and got away with 2 breakaways where you would have assumed the Spiders would score.

The mystery to me (as with all sports) is why sometimes players seem to play well, and sometimes they don’t. Again I wonder if there have been mixed messages. confidence seems a little low – goals conceded seem to elicit a mere shrug of the shoulders as if they were expected. Of course, it’s too late to do anything about it by then and we shouldn’t confuse histrionics with actual performance, but it is concerning that we can’t break the habit of giving the opposition a goal of a start before starting to play. This does give grounds for optimism however – if we can start scoring our equalisers before we lose a goal we should start to pick up some points. What the catalyst should be I don’t know – a new manager is usually the first resort but in the current circumstances I don’t see it happening.

Finally some random comments – the pie was good, but ludicrously overpriced. Having a car-park at the ground that you can get out of the same day is a welcome luxury. The latest minute’s silence was well observed within the stadium, but there seemed to be a racket coming from somewhere – was it hospitality? Poor show if it was. The efficiency of the ball boys and girls seemed to take a dive as we were chasing the game. And we seemed a bit slow in the last minutes of each half in getting the ball forward – do you think the players are aware of the clock on the big screens?

Good post mccaig.

The mystery about players playing well etc feels like at this level we are not good enough to carry players who are struggling and we don’t have enough consistent 7 out of 10 performers who you can rely on. This is reflected in the now constant changing of the team either before kick off or in the number of subs being brought on.

We can’t suddenly make these players consistent performers at this level no matter how often we play them hoping otherwise.
