So far so good, much improved now we are back to basics.
KRH causing problems, Otoo in his best position, Kane and McCann causing problems, amazing what a more direct approach can do.
Expect Ayr to come into it much more, but still be encouraging.

We had a solid enough first half, but as usual at EEP, our forward line lacked punch. That cost us, for Scott Brown changed things up at halftime, and Ayr dominated in the second half. Those goals were always coming. With a few exceptions, we lack quality throughout the side. Very disheartening.

We wont play worse and win , the first 5-10 mins we created lots of chances made Ayr look poor but having failed to score we seemed to have no idea how we were going to get a goal. Ayr controlled three quarters of that match. So many of our players had poor games over the 90 mins and the substitutions dear oh dear.

Just not been good enough to score for 3 games in a row this season and that run continues. At least tidser might have an idea of where we need to strengthen when he finally takes over.
Not suprised wetherby, credit to the guys they have raised their game the last few weeks but as tonight showed the whole team need to all be at the top of thier game to get anything against the top half of this league and that doesn’t happen very often.
Need to hope tidser can bring a few in. We need a good attacking midfielder, a left winger and another striker please.

Just about got the penalty calls right. If Lewis had went down when the initial contact I think he may have got a pen, however he delayed going down. The second I don’t think he could see it as the players body was in the way although the Lino may have seen it. The disallowed goal I can’t get my head round as it came off the Ayr defender last. Just my observations. We need to get the take over/manager mess sorted as soon as possible as I think we have a decent base to build on.

I feared that not scoring in the first half would cost us. We dominated but only created two chances which their keeper made decent saves from. Ayr came out the much better team in the second half but I feel Tobi could have done much better with their opening goal but I’d need to see it again to be sure. Once they scored it was game over. The substitutions were terrible for us. Taking Kane off killed the game and Ngenwya going off injured shows how ridiculous our summer recruitment was as Otoo -who played very well in the first half was terrible in the second and it was probably because he was forced to play there.
The first half showed we have a team capable of staying up but we need to be far more clinical. This takeover needs to happen now as we badly need another 2-3 players on board.

Sign of a good team when you play poorly but grind out a win and Ayr did just that.
First half I was thinking to myself how are they second in the league, we posed more of an attacking threat, I don’t recall any effort on goal from Ayr that half.
Second half they came out swinging whilst we came out lacklustre and their finishing was on point and deserved the W.
I actually thought the standout player for us was Ngwenya in the first half and we did tend to go backwards when he had to come off which was unfortunate.

I think people are really harsh here. We could use a few signings sure but considering we`re managerless and in the midst of a takeover I thought we did OK.
The second half we still had plenty of chances including a stone wall penalty denied and a goal I believe incorrectly chalked off as hit ayr defender.
Ayr are also the form team and I favour them to pip Falkirk to the title when the bairns drop off.
The first half we were just unlucky. Second half we got sucker punched. Nick Walsh was horrific too.
Not too disheartened by this. On to the cup and the next round of league games.

Started well but couldn’t get the goal that our early play deserved.
Gradually, Ayr started getting more possession and pushing us back as the first half ended.
Second half, they stepped it up a little and the goal was not a huge surprise, although I’m sure we should have defended it better.
After that, Ayr’s experience showed and they saw the game out well. It was a great run by Oakley and a super ball in to find him.
Thought it was a mistake to take Otoo out of midfield and put Mebude on and said so at the time. For me, Comrie could have swapped over and Fisher or Young come on at RB
He further compounded that by taking our other ball winner, Hamilton off.
It was a surprise that they never scored more as the route to goal straight through the middle was glaring.
We could have got a goal back with a wee break to make the last 5/10 minutes interesting, but not to be.
No lack of effort, but Ayr gradually wore us down. Might have been a different game had we gone ahead though.

Didn’t think they were overly impressive but they took their chances. On another day, we win that game. It is what it is.
McLaughlan also tried changing things up, which sadly didn’t go to plan. But it’s good to see him not being afraid. I’m not Chalmers biggest fan, but we needed him or Wotherspoon on to control that middle near the end because Hammy was dead on his feet. I understood the changes and can see why he made them. Mebude was disappointing when on however.
We move on to Saturday, hopefully get thru to the next round of the cup.

No sure what happened at the first goal, I’ll need to watch it back.
Should be said we had opportunities to but never got a good strike off when pushing late on.

I think if we`d taken one of those chances - especially if we`d have gone into the break a goal up - we may well have won the game. The confidence drained from us when the enforced change happened then they scored. After that there was likely to only be one winner as they sat deep (as they had done in the second half of the first period) and looked to exploit the gaps we`d leave chasing a goal. If Kane can`t last more than an hour we need another centre forward as a matter of urgency, and we could be doing with a reserve left back to keep Otoo in the midfield. Todd looked well off it again and I worry he`s playing when he should be resting and recovering from illness and injury. Mebude offered nothing when he came on. Sutherland at least looked lively and then either scored or forced an own goal, I couldn`t quite see but unfortunately it was ruled offside. Will have to see that again.

First penalty could be a big error from officials, or
McCann trying to con them, will need to see it again.
Second one doubt the officials could see through the melee of players in the 6 yard box so understandable.
Sutherland probably offside from the initial shot from Chalmers - doesn’t matter that it hits the defenders legs, he’s offside in the build up and scores from it.
Keeper looked to have a shocker for their first. Once again goalie errors costing us.

Just didn’t understand the first substitution - Otoo and Hamilton dominated the midfield in the first half - without them we were powder puff - if Otoo had to go to full back then surely Wotherspoon (or even Chalmers) should have come on - we just handed the initiative to them - and can Kane not play longer - he didn’t look to me like he wanted to come off.
Less said about Walsh the better - the one on McCann looked like a stonewaller and some of his decisions all night were absolutely baffling.

I`m a wee bit surprised a lot of folk thought Ayr dominated the second half. They were the better side after they scored, but that was because they were able to control the game without the ball which they did pretty well. I didn`t feel they were on top at all before the first goal, which I think was their first chance of the game.
We started well, probably on top for the first half hour before it became quite even towards half-time. However, only the one good chance with the keeper saving well. We did also came close early in the second half when Lewis McCann did well to get a ball over that looked like giving a tap-in before a defender did brilliantly to slide it away.
O`too going to left-back didn`t work well and he struggled there. Generally, we seemed to get weaker as more subs came on but by that time we were chasing the game and not really looking like coming back.
Not too upset about that as it feels like one that on another day, if things had gone our way more than they did, we might well have won. I don`t think Ayr were lucky to win as they defended well in the second half with the lead, but it wouldn`t have been lucky for us to have won either. The main concern is that we`ve not taken many points from the games when things have gone against us, and a few from those games would make a huge difference.
Hopefully we can get the new manager sorted pretty soon. Could really do with it happening before teh good feeling of recent games completely drains away.

I can accept a defeat if the team give it a decent go - and they did in the first half, goals change games and maybe a different night if we`d scored early. As it was, Ayr could have won by more in the end.
The difference between good players and better ones is often consistency. If they could play like they did at Partick all the time, they probably wouldn`t be playing at this level, or for the Pars. Tonight most of the team were just too slow in thought and deed, most of the game. And the confidence visibly drained away.
The team does need an injection for sure - hopefully soon. But if we can go forward with the spirit we started with tonight - and without the crippling negativity we had under McPake - I think we`ll be ok.

There`s absolutely no need for the usual pile-on after a defeat. I notice the players are, yet again, not good enough according to our experts. Even though they`ve given 3 out the top 4 a game recently.
I`m fairly certain we`ll stay up, especially with a few additions.

Seconded. I worry that time is slipping away a little and we could soon be playing proper catch up to the teams immediately above us. But it`s obvious to me that the squad have been underperforming and mismanaged. Fingers crossed eh.

In this window most players are under contract so transfers are usually dependent on clubs making players available. This is often late in the window once potential lending clubs have finalised their own business.
ETA - We really need to get cover for Kane because, when he goes off, there is no one to provide what he brings to the team - the ability to hold the ball up and play it through for runners. John McLaughlan said he had a `tight calf` which sounds ominous. Ngwenya`s injury seems a bit of a mystery. JM didn`t shirk from saying Tobi should have done better at the first goal.

It was a difficult defeat to take because we completely outplayed them in the first half, with nothing to show for it and then lost two soft goals in the second half. Our defending of corners and free kicks around the box is suspect. Maybe lack of height is a problem. On one occasion KRH was isolated at the back post trying to compete in the air with their tallest players and that was no contest.

What I found most frustrating about our play, particularly in the first half, was the repeated passing back when advancing forward beyond midfield was called for. It was as if we had returned to the Yogi Hughes philosophy of maintaining possession at all costs and always building our moves from the back.
To an extent, this tactic was understandable in the second half when Ayr seemed to be running five across their back line, making life very difficult for us. However, we still had the ball in the net and a couple of penalty claims.
In the first half, Ayr were nowhere near as tight, and we should have exploited that much more effectively. A sublime long kick-out by Tobi illustrated what was possible. That kick-out completely split the Ayr defence and created a golden opportunity down our right.

Once Ottoo came out of the midfield we lost the shape. I thought it was close but ayr took the 2 chances we gifted them. McCanns chance where it pinballed didn`t go in and their similar effort at the other end does, that`s the sort of things that don`t go your way when you`re fighting at the wrong end of the table.
Worrying if we have to play with Ottoo at left back for a few games or even longer as he seems to be the one holding the midfield together.
Performance level wasn`t the same as last 2 games but we have a chance on Saturday to get back to winning ways and get to the next round in the cup. Winning that might get us the compensation money and finally get a manager in along with a few new faces.

I worry if folk can`t see that we`ve improved in the last 3 games against quality championship opposition. Ayr are the form team in the league and we more than matched them.
Another defeat yes, the league looks pretty grim agreed but theres plenty to be positive about if you try.
