Falkirk sign defender Darragh O`Connor on loan from York City, who was previously at Morton and Motherwell.
They also sign Eamonn Brophy on loan from Ross county.
Ayr United signed Cole McKinnon on loan from Rangers

McPake tried to sign Brophy last season I think. Presumably O`Connor is a replacement for Luke Graham who was recalled by Dundee. I wonder if MFW is keeping him out of the team at York?

Yes, we missed out on Brophy last season, hard to judge how he`ll do as he`s not scored many at all for Ross county recently but on paper should score plenty in that Falkirk side dropping down a level
Presumably MFW must be doing very well if York City signed him permanently for a fee, I read that O`Connor signed for them in the summer but has been injured up until now.

I agree that it would be good to see different names. I think the visa situation from Europe makes it difficult and 2 weeks left of the window it won’t happen. Also new owners won’t be set up to analyse our current crop with what we need. The summer will be interesting and in the meantime I expect a couple of biggish names on loan to get us away from relegation. A striker and a winger to get the other players wanting to step their game up.

I feel like this is very harsh. He was with us for 2 and a half years. Then was with Queens Park for 2 and a half years. Playing for a total of 2 clubs in 5 years feels like he was much more ‘settled’ than a lot of players are these days. It certainly doesn’t seem terrible.

Agreed. Lower league clubs, short term contracts are pretty much the norm. So 2 clubs in 5 years is nothing out of the ordinary.

Yes and no. 2 and a half years seems reasonable to me. On the other hand he royally shafted us when we needed him so the harsher the better in my book.

I don’t realise that. The first I heard he was going to Queens when he gave me a wry smile when I asked why he wasn’t starting against Queens at East End.
Do players have to let their employing club know that a pre contract agreement has been made with another club?
I always wondered after that chat with him why Yogi had even stripped him for the game if that was known.
All very odd to me.

Essentially yes. I don`t understand the big deal about him securing a deal for when his current one expired. These guys have bills to pay as well and signing a PCA ensured he had an income once his existing deal expires.

Sounds like he`s fell out with the club/fans & Raith have agreed to a loan move that doesn`t harm them (like the Vaughan move did a few years ago that practically relegated them to League 1)
It`s a surprise to see him move down the leagues but makes sense from a Rovers perspective.

According to the Courier Sam Stanton told Raith he didn`t want to continue playing for them some time ago. He still has another year left on his contract.
Also in the Courier, MT is saying he has spoken a few times to the new owners but not about money although he is hoping to bring in a couple of players this month. Rhys Breen will be returning after Annan`s match this weekend and there could be players going out to make way for signings. He has `big plans` for the club but the priority is obviously to get out of the relegation zone.
All this is repeated in his pre-match interview on COWS. Josh Cooper picked up an injury in the reserve game against Livi and won't be available but Todd and Ngwenya should be.

I`d class that as an educated guess by gordi, fcda. Tommy was a regular starter earlier this season. He and Sam Young did really well, considering how young they are, when Bene was injured. Tommy then went away on international duty and wasn`t picked again by McPake.

Ah, my bad. I thought the QP game was before the international games. I wasn`t at that game, and Tommy cost us a goal, but that hardly constitutes a "mare" desparado. He`s a young lad and a good player. If McPake had said to him that he believed in him and was starting him again in the next game, it would have done wonders for the lad`s confidence.

Hope not. I would rather have KRH providing width and crosses than Comrie. I don`t think our full backs are suited to being wing backs. Certainly didn`t work under McPake.

Given the results have picked up since we’ve moved to a more orthodox back 4 I hope not. KRH starting to show what he can do playing further up the park with a bit more freedom. Don’t think a back 5 allows him to do that if we’re playing two up top.

Fogarty was a mystery under McPake, hopefully will stay now.
Frees up quite a bit at the back, and crucially Otoo can play in his best position, he`s an outstanding prospect and we waste him playing in different positions, he`s ok as a full back, but a player with his qualities needs to be in midfield influencing more (Otoo that is)

As much as I`m chuffed to bits with our new signing, two of the teams we`re chading have made a handful of signings that could potentially vastly improve them. Hopefully they all trip over their laces and couldn`t hit a barn door from 2 yards.
I still have a bit of confidence that some of our out of form players can be rejuvenated under the new management team.
Hopefully we can still get another couple of good quality pros in to further enhance the squad.

Pars keen on Essel
Dunfermline Athletic are keen on a deal for St Johnstone’s Aaron Essel.
The Pars are looking into a deal for the 19-year-old, when he signed him from Bechem United.
Essel was seen as one for the future by former Saints boss Craig Levein.
Levein has since departed and his successor, Simo Valakari, has decided to go for more experienced in their battle against the drop.
Pars boss Michael Tidser is also looking to strengthen his own squad before the close of the window.
Essel could also offer options in midfield and defence.

5 yellow cards in 15 appearances for SJ - he could understudy Hammy!
He doesn`t seem to have a full cap for Ghana. How does he qualify for a UK work permit?

That would be David Wotherspoon. Tidser needs to find a system where he`s effective, however.
Although, if we insist on passing it out from the back, it would seem to make sense for him to be the one collecting the ball from the keeper or the centre backs - given he`s the least likely to give it away and gift a goal or three.

I enjoyed watching our old new signing Michael O’Halleron at the weekend who now looks as if he can push on KRH who is not being challenged for his place at the moment.
Also, more importantly he encouraged Comrie for the overlapping runs at least twice. Something we sorely lack in attack.

absolutely, problem is there are so many problems in this squad that it cant be fixed in a couple of weeks.

StJohnstone will have gone through the SFA appeal panel or whatever its called and convinced enough people on that this guy had the ability, potential etc etc to merit one which is the same for most of the foreign signings.

Tidser on COWS, also in the Press.
"“It’s important now to try and add a few more and strengthen the group. The group needs strengthened, it needs strength in depth. It’s something we’re actively trying to do as we speak. It’s not easy. January is a hard market to get players in. Sometimes boys are in contracts, sometimes you need to wait until the end of the window to get them on-loan. So we’re looking, trying to strengthen and the boys need help as well.”
Asked if there were any particular areas he was looking at Michael replied that the club was looking at different areas.
“Sometimes it’s square pegs in round holes. Can players play in different positions? We’re looking at three or four different positions, hopefully we can get the bodies in and help the group.”

If we build a balanced squad, there shouldn`t be as much need to do that.
I guess we might achieve something closer to that in the summer when we have more room to maneuver. We need to lose most of the 12 out of contract in the summer to do the job properly.

Dunfermline want Rangers kid Stevens
Dunfermline are keen on a loan move for Rangers winger Archie Stevens.
Pars boss Michael Tidser is keen to boost his attacking options.
Rangers are also looking to get the 19-year-old out on loan to get more first-team exposure.
The Ibrox side signed the former England youth international from Wimbledon in 2022.
He was handed his debut as a 16-year-old but since then has found it difficult to break into the first-team.
Tidser is looking to strengthen his East End Park squad to get out of the relegation play-off spot and towards safety.

It’s a total punt that they are good enough to make any impact at all.
Underwhelming. At least young has first team experience.

Hard to tell kdy, he’ll be up against bigger stronger more physical players in this league than at under 21’s level. He joined Inverness last January and made 3 appearances before getting injured in March. Suggests he wasn’t ready to start for them. Hopefully he’s another year down the line in development but will still be raw.
He may be great he might not be, it took Walcott a good few games before he settled and came good, at this point we need players who can hit the ground running.

It appears that the majority of players we are linked with are under 21 and relatively untested. I find myself at a loss regarding this, especially as we have entered a critical phase of the season. What I’d give for the presence of an Ian Ferguson within the team. In fact, even a Paul Paton would be welcome. While his skills may not have been exceptional, he played with passion as a leader on the park. We are sorely lacking individuals of that ilk in the midfield.
I understand that many may question the transition from Ian Ferguson to Paul Paton, but that simply came to mind as I was typing 😂

Kerr McInroy started well enough, but really slowed quickly, been repeated since.
Has been without a club all of this season, but just signed with Shell bourne, which is a fantastic move, so hopefully can kick on there, that`s a big move up.
Mochrie as we know is at Airdrie, played well against us, but who didn`t? He has yet to play a full game for Airdrie, that`s not progress at 21.
Kennedy signed last minute for QOS, as low as you can go for full time almost , apparently he was turning a corner, learned to pass for example. Sadly he`s got a bad injury which is him till his contract finished, pretty brutal but that looks as if full time is finished for him.

Savage eyed by Dunfermline
Dunfermline are running the rule over Bristol Rovers youngster Taelen Savage.
The 18-year-old striker is a player that has been highly recommended to manager Michael Tidser.
Savage has come through the ranks with Rovers but is looking for first-team football.

There are these things called Scouts, they watch footballers and report back. There is also a thing called `contacts`... a former playing colleague might go off and be a coach at another team, and recommends to an old chum, that they might like to have a look at a player they know about.

If you look at the deals done by Championship clubs up to Wednesday per the SPFL website the majority seem to be young loanees. If we`re looking for an experienced `playmaker` they seem to be in short supply:-
Airdrieonians
Ricco Diack (Partick Thistle, loan), Lewis Strapp (SJK)
Ayr United
Lenny Agbaire (Celtic, loan), Curtis Main (Dundee), Cole McKinnon (Rangers, loan)
Dunfermline Athletic
Connor Young (Edinburgh City)
Falkirk
Eamonn Brophy (Ross County, loan), Ross Munro (Dundalk), Darragh O`Connor (York City, loan), Barney Stewart (Heriot Watt University FC)
Greenock Morton
Hamilton Accies
Tony Gallacher (free agent), Ricki Lamie (Ross County, loan), Connor Smith (St. Johnstone)
Livingston
Robbie Fraser (Rangers, loan), Jack Hamilton (Ross County), Macaulay Tait (Heart of Midlothian, loan), Meshack Ubochioma (Dundee United, loan)
Partick Thistle
Queen’s Park
Ben Jackson (Brighton and Hove Albion, loan)
Raith Rovers
Jordan Doherty (Tampa Bay Rowdies), George Gitau (Middlesbrough, loan), Jamie Gullan (Dundalk), Aiden Marsh (Barnsley, loan)

Savage barely exists when you search for him.
How do we know these guys are any good? Have we actually watched them? Or just going on recommendations or some edited footage?
There’s very little chance the owners have any analytics on this guy.
Berkey, is there a chance that either Tidser or the new owners have brought in a new scouting network?

Does Berkey know for a fact that "there`s very little chance the owners have any analytics on this guy?" I`ve seen some of the basic stuff that exists even for bit part players in the lower levels of the Scottish Leagues, and it`s quite mind blowing for me. I`d imagine that level of data in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing would be invaluable. I would think that with the money swilling about in the english leagues, even at the U23 level they will have a lot of data available to them. After all, they are all spending a lot of money on their youth set ups, they want to be able to see what potential these players have. I don`t know what the new owners AI analytics are like, it seems as though Berkey does, and he`s written it off already

Hopefully these players will be key in our battle to survival. I’m worried about our future and where we go after being let down a few times in the past but fingers crossed our new owners do want the club to prosper and have a decent scouting network. We really need 3 points tomorrow. It would be good to see Young getting a start tomorrow and our two new additions having an impact at some point.
It’s great to get new faces in. Hopefully we can add a centre back, centre mid and left back soon.

Thought it was interesting in snapping up young but going on yesterday perhaps Yeboah is more fancied to come in for Kane and young is seen as a player for next season. Stay up this season and it’s feels exciting thinking about the team we can possible assemble for next season. It might not work with every player but it already feels like a better standard of youngster is being brought in.
They will certainly be glad half full today as opposed to last Sunday!

Competition for places a plenty as tinder said a few have been too comfortable. I like the signing of Mullen a player I`ve seen play a few times in his Scotland games.
He is comfy with the ball at his feet and can ping it better than Sam fisher and probably better than Tobi if we need to go direct. A big physical presence that also uses it the right way with a low foul against count. Delighted with this signing and if he can out in the performances would be a massive player for us if we can get a longer deal worked out. Great bit of business from the pars. Only thing that worries me is that there could be 2 CBs missing for international duty but probably better than them being injured. Well done to all involved in this deal.

I kinda get the nervousness around the fact that these are all young guys who`ve not played much "senior" football and also the comparisons to Falkirk a few years ago - however they absolutely flooded their squad with unknowns as far as I can remember.
I think the guys we`ve signed won`t all be in any given starting line-up and I`m sort of reassured that Connor Young wasn`t just chucked in at the deep end on Saturday past either. That would have reeked of a desperate manager panicking - Tidser doesn`t appear to be made that way.
I`m really excited that we`ve picked up Keith Bray on a long term deal, having read the background on him. Could potentially be a fantastic signing.
Hearing good things about Jeremiah Mullen too - just need to assess his fitness by the looks of things.

Thinks it’s a mix of nervousness and excitement. Good to see us being active and also it is in areas that most have felt we needed bodies.
From the weekend I get what you are saying regarding Connor not being thrown in but I would have preferred him coming on in place of Yeboah. Give him a few minutes at his first home game in a derby with no real pressure.

Yeboah more suitable as a replacement for Kane than Young?

I get the apprehension on these signings as I share that and ultimately time will tell, I may be wrong but I think the Falkirk squad was largely U23 players I think a few of the guys that we`ve signed have been involved in these set ups but have also been on the cusp of the first team and may have played a part which is a good sign plus the supporters of these clubs seem to know who they are which is a plus given the size of english academies.
Its certainly exciting and we`ve been due a bit of luck with owners looking to aggressively push the club on which is much needed.
I wonder if the data analysis will be cut throat with current members of the squad, for example Comrie is a steady eady for us and I would like him kept because i think these guys are important but i also realise that technically he isnt great and i would imagine his numbers in terms of assists might not be better than what the recruitment guys can find elsewhere. Also, Its interesting to see if Tidser will have much of a say in this, it would make sense if he has autonomy on a few players if it matches with the profile the club is looking for at least
It will certainly be a rollercoaster but at least we`ve got hope which is something thats left a long time ago with the germans. Conference league in two years anyone?

Doesn’t sound like Rae has done well at St Johnstone.

Accies fans on P&B saying that the players have fallen out with the manager. Scott Martin already away and Tumilty, McGowan and Ollie Shaw could be following him out the door. Sounds a bit of a mess there.
That`s all good news for us lol

Sam Fisher loaned out to Stenhousemuir, will be the first of a few outgoings you`d imagine.

I`d imagine Sam Fisher won`t have too much good to say about Mr McPake , brought him to the club , sat him on the bench this season ,even Sam Young was ahead of him .
