Absolutely mental decision. Whether it is Chalmers there or Otoo, neither are left backs and we have a perfectly adequate left back available and on the bench. Madness.

So what you are really saying is that the inclusion of one player, Joe Chalmers, gives you zero confidence ?

Dropping an actual left back for a fairly slow midfielder absolutely does.

I think playing either Otoo or Chalmers at left back, when neither of them are good at left back gives me very little confidence. Playing Wotherspoon or Chalmers in the midfield when we`ll need energy and pace to get forward when we do get the ball doesn`t give me confidence. I was expecting a comfortable home win anyway mind you and still hope to be proves wrong. But that line up makes little sense to me.

Can’t imagine any reason Chalmers would get picked ahead of one of our more consistent players. Ngwenya is an athlete. Joe isn’t I am afraid. Hope for the best.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Keskinen isn`t particularly quick if he`s on Aberdeen right wing, at least it`s not Duk.

Still a strange decision but must he valid reasons and McCann will need to do a power of work to help him out. Hopefully no silly yellow cards either.

All the more reason why getting a full back in was a priority. It’s a shame we couldn’t bring in Strapp when he was a free agent. I feel for Chalmers as he will be the fall guy today if we get thumped because he’s being played well out of position. Personally I’d rather see one of the youth players getting a chance there rather than hanging out Chalmers to dry.

Who knows why Ngnemya is benched as Raymie says maybe it`s an injury
It could be tactical But cmon no matter who is playing we need to get right behind the Team and give our full support ! and any comments regarding the team selection can be discussed after the game !
The most important thing for us today would be to score first and any chances that do come our way we need to take them , and any corners free kicks for Aberdeen it would be nice if we actually man marked instead of leaving folk free

Almost a carbon copy of the Livingston game. A poor goal to lose right at half time again.

Our distribution is seriously letting us down. We take too long with the ball when being closed down and get rid of the ball too quickly when we have time! Our two centre backs have been the best players on the pitch by far. I lost the plot when we yet again had a decent break away by Kane but no one would make themselves free forcing us to go back to our keeper - again.

Chalmers to his credit has been ok defensively but his strength - his passing is what has been letting him down badly. Hamilton needs to grow up and stop getting himself needlessly booked. He’s a key player for us and getting booked needless puts him in a bad position for the rest of the 90.

Ok performance but we need to be a bit braver when we get up the park.

Another free header from a set piece! Hamilton another needless booking again.

Apart from that a good, composed performance, very annoying that we are repeating the same errors, which is why we are where we are

Still, some really nice performances today, reset half time and try and make something out of it.

Am I the only one who thinks we`re doing OK? Ref was ready to blow for HT but following the script he let them have another attack which leads to the free kick. Plenty to play for.

Ref is your usual top flight diabolical standard. Letting them foul repeatedly then booking Hamilton for his first foul.

Think we are doing ok as well, but its same errors costing us - defending set plays. Chalmers has been targeted clearly today, Keskinen is doing well on getting in behind him, but he’s getting very little help from McCann.

Keep it tight and 1-0 for next 15-20 mins and its still game on for us. We always look better 2nd half…..

Done absolutely fine the first half. As expected Aberdeen have taken control. They aren`t a great side, we just need to get numbers further forward on the counter attack.

Referee needs to clamp down on Aberdeen`s fouling. No complaints about Hamilton`s card, but Kane has been getting fouled all over the place

Were doing fine, in fact some very good performances, just the usual errors which is why we are fighting relegation.

Hard to be negative about any player to be honest, the new players are definitely decent.

We have had chances, I expect Aberdeen to target Hamilton in the second half, so need to be careful there.

This is painful to watch. We have absolutely no composure on the ball and are just kicking it anywhere.

We haven’t laid a glove on Aberdeen and have we even had a shot on target?

Similar play to McPake ball, this is gonna end up 4 or 5 nil at this rate.

You know your football, king lad. Why the need to make changes at half time? I thought we were doing ok. I’m sure the thoughts were to keep it at 1-0 and then make changes for the last 20 mins?

McCann’s game intelligence let him down there. Yeboah done well there and McCann should have played the pass through to put Kane on goal but played the simple pass to Ngenwya.

Our best player is a player thats spent his career so far as a left back - and he’s pihs there so got moved to centre mid.

Hamilton is a league 1 hatchet man at best.

Chalmers played today to give “experience” - shame he got zero help in the time he was on park from McCann.

Got to question Benes leadership at set pieces as well, given we are consistently losing goals from them.

It was pretty clear the momentum had shifted at the end of the half, Aberdeen were just exploiting our left hand side, Hamilton was also having a shocker whilst being on a yellow. Seemingly there was no tactical adjustment made at the half to change that

We’ve done better since the subs came on but this game seems just out of reach for us with our defensive frailties exposed.

I’m sure it was always the plan to introduce fresh legs during the game.
Easy to be more positive when you are two down and normal for the team to be two up, to sit off and manage the game.

Totally agree with you regarding McCann, I don’t know what managers see in McCann. Definitely needs dropped for a few weeks, I’d rather Yeboah on the left after his cameo today or like you say between MOH, KRH, Stevens there must be a few options.

McCann place in the team seems guaranteed and he’s nowhere near good enough.

We made a poor Aberdeen team look average and that was enough to comfortably do us.

Shows where we are as a team to be fair.

Mystified if playing Chalmers was tactical rather than a niggle with Ngemya. If it was tactical I am really worried.

Wrong player at the back ( Chalmers). Archie Stevens not yet good enough. Yeboah is a player ( has made a BIG difference). OHalloran has his mojo back. Otoo and Mullen have done well. It will be the new boys getting game time from here on in. McCann needs rested. Should Bene be replaced by Fogarty … his lack of pace ( he also sh’t out a tackle or two today) says he only works in a 3(5) set up. Tidser will know his team after the last two games. I’m upbeat that we will finish a few points away from 9th.

All 3 goals were avoidable. 1st goal, rotten tackle from McCann followed by Comrie out jumped. 2nd goal, McCann totally dreaming and too late to get near his man. 3rd, Nygema stripped by the winger.

All poor goals from a defensive point of view. This team needs gutted. Mullen very good again and Yeboa shows promise.

Willie Miller`s views were interesting. He`s usually quite a good judge -

`Yes, Dunfermline got an opportunity in the Cup to do something special, but they really have to focus on the league campaign and get themselves out of the possibility of dropping down.

They look as if they have players who can cause oppositions problems and they defended well in the first half too so it`s not been a disappointing performance. Aberdeen have just been better.`

Not the worst result or performance considering this is effectively a league 1 team (bar 2-3) against a premiership outfit. Mullan, otoo, Kane and maybe comrie are the only players who will be near the first 11 for us next season.

The biggest surprise is folk complaining about mccanns lack of game intelligence! Where have you been for the last 5 years? The lad doesn’t have it.

McCann, Hamilton and chalmers are a bellwether……if they are in the starting 11 you know we’re not intending to compete to be a top 6 championship side.

We’ve brought a fair few in the door in Jan, some look like they add something some will struggle but the important thing is to clear out everyone we can in the summer.

Wee Eck, in the radio commentary Willie Miller remarked that `Dunfermline have constantly tried to play out from the back but have never once made it to the half way line, they need to mix it up a bit`. I`m not sure Michael Tidser will be one for turning on this though.

Negatives:
Chalmers had a terrible game.

McCann had a terrible game.

We look pretty toothless trying to play out slow from the back. The tippy tappy pi5h isn’t working.

Positives:
Otoo had a great game.

Mullen had a good game.

Yeboah looked good when he came on.

When we do move the ball forward quickly and direct we look a much more capable side.

When some of our squad who have been around for a while are bad, they are bad. Overall, I thought we played reasonably well with quite a few players above pass marks.

But, there are some who need dropped for a wee while and there are others who need given a chance .

We have the basis of a reasonable first 11 if the manager plays the right players in the right position.

The disappointing thing for me is the real positivity came when we were 2 down.
Going into the game we had a free chance to have a go at a vulnerable team and never really took it.

The Chalmers in for Ngwenya move is bizarre, the lad had looked to have become more freed under Tidser/John McLaughlin and looked fit enough when he came on.

A few decent performances, Kane was a menace as usual, the other forward players really can learn from him, especially the dark arts.

All the new guys were good, Mullins and Stevens . Yeboah looks the part.

The same errors all season, we know the weaknesses , unfortunately so do the opposition.

McCann is a unit, but he has not progressed at all, I think he might just be an athlete not a footballer , he left Chalmers exposed (vulnerable anyway) which didn`t help, and we have kids who already have more instinct, that`s the truth. Someone needs to work intensively with him, it might be best if it`s a different team

We have enough going forward this season, but can`t be playing from the back! Everyone knows there`s a clear out at end of season, apart from Comrie I`m happy to not extend any contracts, and I wouldn`t bother extending any options apart from the new guys if they want to.

I wouldn`t extend Comrie either. He tries hard, never gets injured, but is limited in technical ability and as an attacking fullback. There are better options out there.

McCann and Mullen have contract extensions we can activate if I’m right, I’d extended Mullens and let McCann go.

Agree totally that out of all the expiring contracts I’d only offer Comrie a deal.

We’re gonna see a massive squad overhaul in the summer and I just hope it’s in the championship still.

I just don`t get it sometimes. Every time we`ve looked dangerous this season it`s been when we`ve played the ball quickly. Doesn`t need to be long ball, doesn`t need to be into the channels, doesn`t need to be wide - but it needs to be quick. In practice that means we can`t keep playing it short to Benedictus because he always want to slow it down. It means we can`t play Hamilton in the role he`s been playing as he isn`t comfortable taking it into feet, turning and driving forward. I think Taylor-Clarke could do that job tbh. But playing Benedictus at the back and his lack of pace means there is a yawning chasm between the lines so it becomes moot anyway. Further up, McCann remains an Enigma. Sometimes he doesn`t stop running. In games like today he doesn`t seem to track back. Is it instructions or lack of awareness or game intelligence or what? Playing a midfielder at left back was always going to be a gamble so McCann really needed to get back into a defensive shape quicker but the one time he did he dived in and conceded the free kick they scored the all important opener from. McCann actually looked pretty good alongside Kane when McLaughlan was in charge so I`d be looking to play him there if he has to play.

I thought Comrie had pretty decent game today , as well as being one of our more dependable defenders this season . I`d definitely keep him .

*Grabs the popcorn and watches the thread descend into another McCann bashing.....

Beat off Aberdeen = gut the whole squad.

My thoughts - we done alright. Got to half time level, you never know. Kept it 1-0 til last 20, you never know. Kanes volley goes in at 2-0, would`ve been interesting. Penalty given and scored, same.

All ifs and buts, main thing is I thought we made a game of it.

On to next Saturday.

To be fair McCann was rotten today. If we want to be challenging for the promotion playoffs we will need a complete overhaul as there aren`t many of these players who are at that level.

After every defeat folk come up with their release lists. The reality is the [players` future will depend on how they do in the remaining League games.

Meanwhile QP are 1-0 at Ibrox into the last 10 minutes with one goal from one shot!

Who exactly is only now, after today’s game calling for the squad to be gutted? We’ve known it was coming for a long time and today it was just as obvious as previous games. Don’t know why you have to make this stuff up?

3-0 is a decent result for us given that team we put out. Days are numbers at championship level for quite a few of them so against a premier club they did well.

It`s a genuine question.

I went up with my son more out of hope than expectation. I enjoyed the occasion, the trip to a different ground - one I've not been to in a long time. I'm quite content we made a game of it and we didn't get a soul destroying tanking. Maybe I'm getting auld but I don't let defeats get to me like some do.

McCann was poor but he was up against a higher standard of player, as were Chalmers and Hamilton.

Plenty to be positive about.

In the championship there is more than enough in the players we have seen in the last couple of games to get a good 14-15 players to see us safe. Young, Yeboah, Kane 2 from 3 during a game will get us goals.

Thought it was quite interesting someone like Lennon in commentary was noticing and complimenting him on his physical prowess and getting into good positions whilst being critical of his decision making and game intelligence.

Mullen had another decent game and Otoo was good again. McCann could learn from him as a lot of the time it just seems to be him using his hips and backside to get his body between the opponent and the ball - even when he isn`t favourite - and wlthen with his build and athleticism he just strides away and the opponent isn`t getting it back.

McCann could be an incredible player if his decision making improves but that is something is difficult to coach. He reminds me of Oliver Burke. All the physical attributes to be a quality footballer but massively lacks the brain.

As great as it was to see Rangers get turfed out, it was also a bit deflating. We would never have the capability to defend like that, even though I’d expect us to take something off Queen’s Park every time we play them. Football is strange!

Da no 1 your not wrong.

There`s enough positives, we move on

Also, we have been fighting relegation the last 2 seasons, it`s just an obvious statement to say there will be a clear out of everyone we can at the end of the season. You don`t need to be Nostradamus.

There`s no pile on for McCann, he can play well, but like a lot of guys in 2nd tier it`s 1/10 games (Higginbotham, etc you can name hundreds). In these cases, there`s a time when a club cuts that and tries someone else. We are doing that, and the new guys clearly (even at 19 or 20) already have a football instinct.

I`m more positive about the rest of the season, there aren`t any players who I would groan if they were picked. I genuinely think they are all motivated.

Well another game where we have shot ourselves in the foot ! this wasn`t a great Aberdeen team but they didn`t have to be as we certainly helped them big time
It`s been the same all season and we do not seem to learn our lessons and we cannot do the basics , every time a team gets a free kick near our box or a corner we always seem to switch off and get punished ! today it was a stupid lunge in by McCann that turned the game but Comrie has to do better also , if we had made it to half time who knows ? and then I have to put the blame on Hamilton for giving the ball away again and McCann should have done better too
It`s the same old story of old but it`s not the end of the world we are oot the cup so maybe we can knuckle down and get things going in the league ,but tidser needs to stop the playing out from the back till we actually get a win or two behind us ! we need the points , we are better when we go direct so here`s hoping we can kick on in the League
Cmon Ye pars

Think it`s harsh to criticise Comrie at the first goal, it was a total mismatch in physicalities between him and Gueye who is what, 5 or 6 inches taller?

On the bright side, I think some of the new players brought in despite their age look like they can add some ability. Hopefully get to see more of Connor Young in the coming weeks.

Queen’s Park go to Ibrox and claim a historic win. We go up to an Aberdeen team, who have not won in 15 games, and surrender to them easily. There’s a difference in mentality that we need to address - poor so far from
Tidser.

He was left out as a tactical decision to add Joes experience, Tidser explained it in pre match comments to BBC Scotland.

Whats more worrying is I don’t even think Aberdeen looked that good, and still beat us comfortably despite Nisbets sitter.

Next 3 league games are crucial for me - not in terms of opponents but we need to pick up a big points tally - got to go get 7 points. March fixtures are not pleasant with Falkirk, Rovers and Ayr all away.

Playing a centre mid at LB for experience is utter nonsense. He’s absolutely no pace and gave the ball away numerous times. A left back needs signed in the loan window as only having 1 is not enough

Agree completely. Was behind the game most of the match and I left with the truth that we need to be playing a younger more agile player. That was the saddest part of my day as the admission is he isn’t up to it anymore.

Not playing Ngwenya was a really strange move. I know he`s not long back from injury and maybe looked a bit rusty at first against Livi but he looked stronger and stronger as the game went on. Can only assume they are managing his game time.

On the left side - I`ve had a left winger/left forward up to the first team on my wishlist through about 6 transfer windows but it never happens. ☹️

McCann was poor today but I don`t think he`s being played in a position that plays to his strengths.

That was my first game for 7 years.

Was enticed by Aberdeens horrendous form and our new manager/ owners / signings.

Aberdeens confidence with 9 defeats in 10 needed to be pressed on but never felt we really got in their faces to make them commit errors.

I`ve seen many way worse Pars performances but after investing the time and money to travel and see them I`m in no particular rush to go back.

I thought Otoo was excellent and Stevens looked a player. A lot of going back or sideways or losing momentum for me. Aberdeen losing today would not be much of a shock but it never really looked on the cards which is a shame.

To be a Plymouth or Queens Park fan tonight....I wonder how many holidays will be called in for... :-)

Disappointing game. Too slow with every move of attack and chances missed by not passing or snatching at the rare opporutnity. Can`t be bothered to comment on the madness of the starting lineup as it was for all to see. Thought we could have had more from the game with the right formation. New signings looked promising for our championship campaign.

And to the twats who looked at me and wife commenting "bet they only go to big games", shove that comment so far up your bottom . Haven`t missed a game home or away for 3 years. There`s some nuclear idiots in our support.

Players that did well:

Otoo: by far the best player in the first half for us, excellent.

Kane: did what he does best, winning fouls up the pitch at important times and thought he generally played well despite the limited opportunities he had.

Mullen: seen enough now to say that he is a really good find, thought he was solid.

Stevens: another good young player, very attacking mindset it’s just a shame the rest of the team aren’t as much, really difficult for him to play in that manner when he has no one to play it out to,

Comrie: boy worked his socks off, yeah, had a couple of mistakes but he was heavily involved and should hold his head high.

The others:

Hamilton - awful today and has been poor for a while now, lost the ball countless times, flying into the odd tackle, getting booked early on, easily outmuscled- Otoo set the bar.

McCann - poor midweek, poor today, set plays again rubbish, will never fault his work ethic but he needs to read the game much better and look up more, he was greedy and took a shot which was brutal when a good pass that was on could’ve led to a goal. Getting fed up hearing the same thing from managers about potential only for it never to really come out.

Chalmers - admittedly wasn’t the worst for me, what frustrated me is just how casual he is on the ball, when he passes it and equally when he loses it, he plays like he just can’t be arsed or doesn’t give a toss.

Bene - as others have mentioned, not the same since his injury and has been pretty evident that his legs have gone.

If we really have any ambitions to do well next season then we need to be brave and let a good few of these players go.

End on a positive, thought the fans were incredible from start to finish and thought the Calderwood chant at the end was a very nice touch. A long day trip, you all deserved better but you did yourselves proud today.

I`m a bit torn on how I feel about that game. Partly, I feel that we defended our box pretty well in the first half and probably should have got to half-time at 0-0 and then it might have been a different game. But a big part of me is disappointed at how we set up and how we persisted with ineffective passy stuff for so long, which was a big factor in us hardly laying a finger on them.

What do folk think our shape was today? Back 4 is easy enough, as is Hamilton sitting in front. I was finding it a bit tricky to work it out as there was some shifting and the view from that South terrace is poor. I think I settled on something like 4-3-3, with a narrow 3 midfiled of Wotherspoon, O`too and Hamilton. Kane in a central position with Stevens and McCann wide.

Plenty talk about Lewis McCann, but I agree entirely with the point above on not being played in a position that plays to his strengths. He must have been told to stay high up the park today, because there were many times when it seemed that he had to drop deep to cover Chalmers and just didn`t. And then, despite leaving him high up the pitch, we hardly ever tried to hit a long pass to him and gave him no chance to be physical. It meant that we gave them a load of space out wide and didn`t get any benefit from it. If McCann was going to play out there today, he had to be a bit deeper. And before someone wants to pick me up and say `but he gave away the free kick for the first goal`... I know, but that was very much the exception to see him back in that position. That particular aspect of our setup utterly infuriated me today.

As for the slow passy stuff (again), my view is unchanged. How many times did we try it and how many times did we get across the halfway line by doing so? We had one decent attack up our right late in the game from one and I honestly think that was it. Almost every time, we lost it in our own half. We were a bit more direct later in the game, and one time we did the rarest of things and played a percentage ball up the line and forced their full-back to put it out for a shy and give us a chance of some ball in their half. Why do we have to be 2 or 3 down before we do any of that?

And, as we were with McPake, we sometimes find oursevles in a position where a quick pass is on, but we`ve been coached to go passy and we don`t seem to see it. So frustrating to see a space open occasionally.

It wasn`t all terrible and I`m probably being too much of a moany hoor, but I really don`t like what Tidser is doing tactically. I find it annoying and frustrating.

Pretty good summing up as usual Socks !
And I think there will be many of us thinking the same about Tidser`s tactics
I am like you find it very annoying , we are not good enough for this tippy tappy stuff from the back ! when we go direct we are a totally different team ,
we really need to play to our strenght if we want results to go our way , but if we continue the way we are going well I cannot see us winning many games

Just watched the first goal on highlights. Very very poor defending. I think this sums up that some of our players don’t want to place themselves where it hurts at times.
Still that is the difference between premier and lower championship.

You look at the way QP played against Rangers, the commitment, the organisation and realise how far we are off the mark. Rangers have won 6 out of there last 7 prior to this match.

Honestly thought we were poor against Aberdeen. We certainly didn’t do any better than Elgin and Aberdeen were there for the taking!

This passing out, back, sideways is awful. Let’s press higher up the field until we have the players to play Pep’s method. Won’t mention JC at left back again 🙈!

Let`s be honest here, QP did extremely well to win that tie and deserve all the plaudits but were also extremely fortunate. They had 1 effort on goal and 1 corner in 96 minutes. Ferrie in goal was outstanding. Literally the performance of his life. Sometimes fitba works like that.

I laughed as loud as anyone when the final whistle blew to be fair 😂

A bit daft comparing 2 completely different games though.
