Lennon becomes manager and the still sprightly James Forrest fancies a new challenge?

The longer the delay of NL signing ,I feel he will go somewhere else.Hoping the new owners are doing everything needed to get NL on board .Wouldnt be a good start if they lost their main choice for the position. But I feel NL managing in a higher league will sway things

I would think it`s pretty much a done deal. There is no rush in the announcement if he is still involved in the club day to day

Wouldn`t ST sales get a boost regardless of when the announcement was made? A lot of the buzz that existed just after the end of the season has been dissipated by the uncertainty over the managerial position in my opinion.

Agreed, I think it`s a trick we`ve missed in previous close seasons that the club haven`t been able to engage the fanbase once the season has ended.
The season we won league 1 there was an incredible feel about the place but it was allowed to fade away with a lack of involvement from the club.
There are so many things that you can drip feed in the summer window, announcements around fixtures, kits ,open days, contracts etc before you even start with new signings. Some of those you might not have news on but others can be planned.

I have a sneaky feeling we will get a triple announcement.Neil Lennon confirmed, season ticket and new strips announced together. The last update from Mr.Cook mentioned work being done in these three areas.Announcing it like this will create an amazing feelgood factor, we`ll be queuing up in droves. If Lennon wasn`t a stick on for the manager`s job it would have been advertised by now.

I think it will be season tickets along with the manager, then signings drip fed in to keep the momentum going. Strips will be separate and home and away separate dates. Season tickets starting end of next week, I suspect, then hang on tight for the rest of June as things build up.

I don`t see what difference it makes, tbh. If Lennon’s getting the job, he`ll already know his role and be identifying targets as we speak. The club staying quiet doesn’t mean he’s not planning just means they’re keeping it under wraps.

I see Scott Brown is amongst the favourites for the Dundee job. Neil Lennon is also mentioned. I would have thought we would be a better option than Dundee. As a club we have more potential, and it says alot when you sack a manager for keeping you up.

Folk acting like Lennon the only decent manager out there.

If he signs great but if not with our budget there will be plenty of good options out there and they would cost as much as Lennon either.

Don’t be silly. Dundee a far better option than us, we’ve had 1 season in the premier league in approx 20 years. How many years have they been up there.

We don`t. Dundee, with a bigger fanbase and generally a more successful history (both recently and going back a bit), have more potential, are more likely to finish higher up the league and, as a result, are more likely to achieve things like European qualification or a cup win. Yes, I know it`s a very long time since they last won the Scottish Cup.

I really don`t see how that`s even arguable. It reminds me of 2004 when people were claiming that we were a bigger club than Aberdeen, when they came in for our manager after an unsuccessful period. It was nonsense.

I also don`t really understand the logic that Lennon has definitely agreed a contract with us but we`re just not announcing it yet. I don`t see what we `d gain from that. Are we going to sell more season tickets because the first day of renweals is the same day as we announce the manager? Why would we sell more than if the manager was announced now and renewals started in a week or 2? It just doesn`t make much sense to me. I`d have thought it would help in keeping interest over the summer to have the new manager and season ticket announcments separately. It could also be harmful in getting in new players, as anyone coming to us would surely want to know who the manager is. If I was a player and offered a contract, it would make me hesitate if one of the options hadn`t even announced their manager for the new season. I`d want to know what manager I was going to be playing for.

And, quite honestly, I don`t understand the hype either. Lennon did OK in his time at the end of the season but it wasn`t anything outstanding. Results weren`t hugely different to the others. I`d certainly take him over Tidser who behaved like an utter clown but it was nothing like the famous Jock Stein turnaround when he was appointed at a similar stage of the season in 1960, in similar circumstances. If he is our manager next season then I`m fine with that. But if not, and we get Tony Docherty, for example, I`m equally OK with that. Whoever it is, we really need to have it sorted by teh end of the month at the latest and preferably before that.

I don’t understand the need to not announce anything or to link it with season tickets. I think the club need to tell the fans as soon as possible.

I’d add Kettlewell to your list, too, if it’s not NL.

Nothing major will happen soon recruitment wise. A few chats with players maybe, but the reality is most are still under contract until the end of the month, so it`s all just early groundwork right now.

We’re not exactly a massive pull for players either despite what some fans might think. We can`t even compete with York in terms of signing players. That means most targets will likely wait to see what the summer holds before deciding if we’re worth signing for, fair enough to be honest.

If it is Lennon coming in (and I think it is), then great. But if not, there are still decent options out there who could do a job. No panic stations. I do think he will do great with a better squad than the one he had when he came in.

For now, it’s a case of sitting tight and seeing what happens. I’ve got a feeling Lennon knows he’s the man and is already lining up targets or at least laying the groundwork behind the scenes. Let`s hope we’re moving in the right direction.

I don`t really see past history at any club being an important consideration unless you have carried that successful momentum for a number of years. Dunfermline as a club in my view has the potential to achieve the same as the other clubs in the Premiership other than potentially Celtic, Rangers or Aberdeen. I wouldn`t even include Hearts or Hibs. You ate only ever as good as your last game in football and it has to be about looking forward not back. The only reason to look back is to learn lessons from mistakes. I think what money coming into the game, a solid club foundation, organisation and structure to development and a will to win and achieve levels the playing field. What Scottish football desperately needs is teams who compete to win the premiership so that it`s not all over by December with Rangers or Celtic.

That`s what happens to managers. Lennon has been sacked in 4 of his last 5 jobs, often barely into a long term contract. In the other one he was suspended for disciplinary reasons. The only job he has left voluntarily was his first gig at Celtic, when he had zero competition as Rangers were down the leagues.

Wasn`t the rumour that Scott Brown was miffed because he wasn`t the first to be approached when the St Johnstone job became vacant? I think the media just make that sort of stuff up to generate a bit of interest - especially if there`s an OF connection.

Can confirm Scott brown was surprised we didn’t approach him at the time we regrettably targeted Tidser. He told a guy I know he would have very seriously considered it because he feels we have a much bigger long term potential than Ayr.

In football reputation is everything. Like most things you can make money, you can lose money, but you can only lose your reputation. I am not sure of the circumstances of NL`s sackings or otherwise. Maybe he needs to build back his reputation who knows. If he dies, Dunfermline is a good club to do it. If I were a manager, I would want want to first and foremost understand who I am working for, what their aims, aspirations and objectives were over the next 3-5 years, what are the resources available to do that, does it fit with my times, aspirations and objectives, and what will be my role and responsibilities to do that. You need to understand the environment and the constraints that you are working within. Football management at any club seems to be short lived, but a 3 - 5 year plan with achievable and realistic targets gives you something to aim for and to understand what a measure of success looks like. You want to enjoy what you do and form a team around you that feels the same whether it be management, coaches, scouts, players etc. You all need to be on the same page and the same journey.

Do Dundee really have more fans than us? They`ll obviously get bigger average gate receipts because of bring in the SPL but there crowds are on a par with us when playing the lower supported clubs. Dundee Utd have a an extra couple of thousand home fans, but not Dundee.

You do have to applaud them (and Motherwell,St Johnstone etc) for having such long spells in the top league without getting relegated when you`d expect them to be yoyo clubs. It`s makes me wonder why we can never do it.

Motherwell have a similar if not slightly lower fanbase than us but I don`t think I`ve ever seen them relegated and I`ve been a supporter since the mid to late 80`s when I first got dragged along*.

*I didn`t even like football when I first went. It was against Morton and we won 4-1,it was the atmosphere in the nw next to the cage and the excitement that won me over.

The most recent time Dundee were in the same division as us, with crowds was 2019/20. Our average gate was 4152 to their 5277, make of that what you will. They have been in the Premier for 9 of the last 12 seasons so difficult to make comparisons.

Right now Dundee are in a better position than we are and right now are probably bigger than The Pars but from the late 80`s until the early 2000`s in my opinion we had the better support no doubt and i certainly viewed us as the bigger club.

I think if you factor in, the increase in the population in Dunfermline and surrounding areas and we are the only club in the city. It would be interesting to compare city populations against potential club supporter numbers.

Dundee might be playing at a higher level than us but I’m not having that they are a bigger club. Plus, they share a city, which would hamper any growth.

They’re probably in a band of clubs that are on par with us (no pun intended) but with the ambition that our owner (allegedly) has, then I know where I would want to be out of the 2 clubs, if I was a manger.

This view isn’t meant to be a dig at Dundee, I just don’t think they’re bigger.

Comparing apples with oranges. Dundee is more than twice the size but has two teams. It`s also got terrible levels of deprivation and the second worst life expectancy level for men in the whole country.

Dundee are getting a lot of money ploughed into them right now and hopefully they`ll be able to emulate what St.Johnstone have done with McDiarmid Park. They`re well supported for the size of Dundee but could be doing better.

Dundee might get a boost from new stadium facilities. Hibs and Hearts have had decent crowd increases since stadiums have been upgraded. Contrarily for us, since the building of our new stands, our crowds have dwindled but we’ve also become less successful on the field. We might have sold a few season tickets but a huge number don’t turn up. Our average turn out is probably more like 3,500-4,000. Incidentally, I’ll likely buy a couple of STs but I’ll be one of the many (or quite a few) who won’t get to use them very often.
