Is this the first time we’ve done a “themed” kit? I’m probably way wrong about this but other than nods to previous colors and styles I can’t remember in my lifetime there being a kit we’ve modeled around something like The Skids. I recall the remake of the Norrie kit with 4 on the back. I also remember (and maybe I don’t really remember) that it was somewhat significant that the purple kit in the late 90’s had “The Pars” on the back of it. Interested to hear of any examples.
This one is presumably going to be colored like the Skids album with Into The Valley. I had a glance at that record cover and I’m bracing myself for the most hideous kit of all time but in a sensational kinda way. I’ll probably get it.

I think the new design is based on the colours in the badge?
Much as I love the Skids, or is it both?

Are there any stats available for the numbers of replica kits football clubs sell? I would have thought a club our size launching a 3rd kit so early in the season would result in saturation of the market but presumably experience suggests this is not the case?

it is possible this strip might appeal to more than just pars fans if the skids element works well then it`s possible skids fans might buy it.

Hopefully plenty of XL+ to account for the customer base who will snap up this top.
Excellent marketing ploy and will appeal to many Skids non Pars fans and raise the profile of the club.
I think a Robert the Bruce themed shirt would be good with the profile of the Abbey lettering

We should be absolutely milking the music connections our great club has when it comes to producing kits. As mentioned above, it will likely appeal to more than just fans of the club but band itself.
Case in point. Bohemians FC in Ireland. In the last few years they’ve had Bob Marley, Thin Lizzy, Fontaines D.C x2 and an Oasis jersey. The Oasis jerseys were absolutely everywhere during the gigs at Murrayfield (albeit likely fake due to the sheer volume of them and well aware they’ve been faked).
They’ve increased merch sales by almost 2000% and last year alone they made €2 million (yes 2 MILLION) from jersey sales alone which accounted for just shy of half of their turnover. Money like that would be invaluable to us, even with our well off owners - something Bohemians don’t have as they are fan/member owned.
We love Dunfermline We do!

Absolutely, and we should milk the connections as much as possible.
Into the valley has to be one of the best opening rifts in football -use it after every goal! Far better than some bland corporate rubbish you hear at other grounds- even though I`m not a fan of music after goals-the crowd makes the noise, if we`re going to do it, do this one.
Oh, Bluebell Polka by law should be played at the end.

Totally agree that we should be milking the music links, 100%.
I also think we should be milking the Dunfermline Tartan as well. Why we don’t have the bare minimum of a tartan scarf, is beyond me. This range would be a big seller in Scotland and to the American/International market.
I also think we should produce our own beer. Years ago (and probably still today), Bournemouth & Portsmouth used to make an absolute fortune by getting a local brewery (Ringwood in Bournemouth’s case), to stick a club badge label on their lager, IPA & stout range and sell it off to supporters. Why we (and other clubs in Scotland) have never done this is beyond me.
Anyway….back on topic 😂😂

I could see a Skids jersey selling well, especially among Skids fans. If you go to any Skids gig you will see a lot of them wearing the merchandise.
If I was in charge of marketing, which I`m not, next season, get a Nazareth themed shirt, the year after that a Big Country one. Then a Jethro Tull shirt. Maybe even 3rd shirts themed on Sir Alex Ferguson or a Liddell-pool shirt, cash in on Liverpool`s transformation after signing Dunfermline man Billy Liddell.
That golf shirt The Pars brought out looked great, they should get in touch with St Andrews Golf Club in New York, the first Golf Club in the United States of America, which was set up by 2 guys from Dunfermline, and do some kind of collaboration.
Or how about an American Football shirt? The Pars had one of these in 1985, looked fantastic, surprised they haven`t done one again. Given that Dunfermline man General Forbes established Pittsburgh, and then Andrew Carnegie made his mark there, get a Dunfermline Athletic x Pittsburgh Steelers collaboration.
The idea I always bang on about is bringing out a shirt like Málaga brought out for their centenary, that had the names of every player to play for the club woven into the design, making up the stripes. The writing was small and so it had thousands of names. Do something similar for us, invite fans to get their name, or a loved ones name on this piece of history, charge £20 or £30 a name, then they will likely buy the shirt at £60 too. That would bring in a packet in my opinion

Good question, it`s the same with Meg Mortimer. I did wonder if it was because with Annie being in charge of The Rovers and Meg being the manager at Crossroads Motel, was it because they appeared more, twice an episode either side of the break. I did some searching online, and it said-
"the repetition of Annie Walker likely comes down to:
Musical rhythm and symmetry—the name fits neatly into the chant`s cadence, making it easy to throw in again.
Balanced naming—throwing back to earlier names later in the verse keeps the structure cohesive."

Smart kit gandom stick on logo is disappointing. Skids and Dunfermline donating all profits to the charity White ribbon. Abuse against woman charity. A good enough event sound system a bit dodgy when Leishman was talking but done well to get the kit launch and a good amount of players in attendance.

Excellent event and well attended, big queues for the shirt but moved quickly, open till 7 so plenty time after work.
Good rendition of Into The Valley, and really benefited from Leishman`s mike not working as we have heard all his stories 100 times before :). Although we really know Jobby is a Celtic fan although claimed only to support St Pauli now and cough The Pars, but nice comments about Stuart Adamson and how much he loved The Pars.
Tops are excellent and money going to a good cause as well as some nice T Shirts and Hoodies as well as bucket hats which I`m sure will go down well.
Well done to all involved in this initiative and event as was a real success story.

A really good event, very well attended with big queues for the shirts and for photos with the players. Several interesting market stalls too, although I`m not sure how much business they actually did.
It`s a pity some folk are unhappy with the timing, but an event like this needs to co-ordinate the diaries of literally dozens of people and organisations, so well done to the DAFC commercial team for achieving this.

Like Athletico says, it’s just common and commercial sense.
Expect a launch event to pick up a lot of sales, then you have the foot traffic from those that can’t make it plus general replenishment for the shop throughout the year.
Glad that the shirts a success, but it is pretty poor.

That suggests that all kit launches in the past have been commercial successes. Taste in fashion is such a fickle thing how can you anticipate for sure what will sell and what won`t? With a custom-made kit like this what can you do with excess stock if it fails to sell? The manufacturer is unlikely to be able to adapt it to use as another kit.
If the launch had been a flop the same critics would have been on here having a go at the club.

It’s a stuck between a rock and a hard place scenario.
Club will never be able to please everyone. If I hadn’t got mine I would be happy to wait 5 weeks where I understand others wouldn’t.
Main objective was to get it for the Nephews, I’m got loads of kits from previous seasons never been worn.
The plus point is the club is making money and that will contribute to the club being better on and off the park whilst working alongside a charity doing good.

If only there was a way consumers could show interest in a product before it`s available...you could call it something like pre-purchase...no that`s not right. 🤔
Pre-order! That`s the one. What a mad concept.

Me for one. The designs were finalised months ago. Put a wee teaser on social media/email drop: New shirt - inspired by Scared to Dance. Taking pre orders now.

You`re forgetting the launch day was originally for the home shirt. Even so, having a teaser, doesn`t stop you having a family launch day.

You could’ve done a pre-order in addition to a formal launch event.
Not too fussed, I’ll place the order, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say that it’s disappointing that within the first 5 mins of the club shop opening they have hardly any in stock.
That’s at least three of us on here looking to buy, £165 probably a bit more if buying for kids/others/presents.
Then there will be a good few more than us obviously, tot it all up, just feels like a nice bit of money left on the table - bit of a missed opportunity that they’ll be hoping they can recoup through the re-order process.

Find myself sticking up for the club a lot recently.
Club designs shirt, stocks shirt, fans like shirt (hooray!), club sells out of shirt and makes a decent wad of cash during a lovely family club shirt launch.
Grown adults, red eyed, snotters dribbling down their faces, have to wait a few weeks for said shirt (boohoo)
The shirt might have died on its a*se.

Surely the club would have a good idea how many they would sell ?
What amount do we normally sell ( third strip )? How many away tops do we normally sell ? This one I would guess will be somewhere in between the two.
No idea how many strips the club ordered for first batch but it certainly seems to be way below the demand.
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

There`s not really any way of gauging this
I would be fairly typical in this unique situation -im touching 60, the last time I bought a top was about 20 years ago (at end of season, unsold kit for 10 quid, for 5 a sides) so, surplus stock.
I like a lot of music (radio 6 on all the time) and the Skids
So if they have a top I`m buying, if I have to wait months it makes no difference , I`m buying , If they run out, it really doesn`t matter at all to me.
I will be happy if I get a top, but if I don`t it`s close to the bottom of my list of things that disappoint me-thats because I`m 59 like a lot of buyers of this shirt.
Club has played it well I think, certainly not badly! It`s a great initiative.

From COWS -
`This morning, the remaining stock was put on sale in the club shop, with most sizes selling out in under an hour.
This demand is unprecedented, making it our fastest-ever selling kit, even surpassing last year’s hugely popular black and gold away kit. It is always very difficult to gauge stock levels for a kit launch, and we stocked similar numbers to last year’s hugely popular away kit, expecting it to sell well, but we have been blown away by the response.
We understand some fans will be disappointed not to have got their hands on the kit immediately, so we are offering a pre-order for the next batch of the third kit. All junior and adult sizes will be available for pre-order.`
Bucket hats can also be pre-ordered!

I don`t often post on the forum but on this post I must respond.
What an absolute stupid post to make, how is it obvious that the kit would sell so quickly? It`s a 3rd strip which quite frankly has been the butt of many a negative comment on this forum. In fact most if not all our new shirts attract negative comments in some way or another.
It`s a business decision first and foremost, make sure the club isn`t left with unsellable stock or sold at a huge discount towards end of season. On the other hand go with a realistic sellable stock and re-order if demand exceeds supply.
I can only applaud those involved with this venture and good to see we have a good commercial department pulling out all the stops to move the club forward.

It’s a cracking kit, nothing against the Skids but I like the colour scheme the tones of blue look great so I’m not surprised it’s popular.
What I will say it’s difficult to judge without actual numbers. If the club have ordered several hundred and they’ve sold out then you can’t apportion blame. If they want to avoid the finger pointing give us some numbers of what’s been ordered/sold.

The only way the club can "win" here is by ordering ever so slightly more than is needed through a brilliant estimation. Our biggest selling kit ever puts paid to that.
What`s the alternative? Massively over-buy? Do better at guessing? Maybe volunteer your services if you feel you could do a better job.

Comments from fans of other clubs in the article referred to by 33Par -
Scots novelist Ian Rankin - who supports Dunfermline`s arch rivals, Raith Rovers - said: "As a Raith Rovers fan, even I think this is damned cool…"
And a Cowdenbeath fan quipped: "I really want to hate this but it`s a thing of beauty. B******."
Some think the new top could start a trend...
"Absolutely on board with kits based on album covers," said one fan.
While this Rangers supporter said: "Every club should do this. Aberdeen with an Annie Lennox top, Queen of the South with a Calvin Harris inspired number."
Another Gers fan called it "outstanding" while a Celtic supporter said it was "sensational".
Before a Hearts fan said: "I actually really like that. Errea has done good work on that."
While an Airdrie supporter commented: "I`m here as an Airdrie fan to say this is absolutely magnificent and I`m sorely tempted to buy one even though I`m an auld bloke who doesn`t even wear fitba jerseys anymore."
From further afield Bristol City supporter commented: "Absolute class. Well done Dunfermline Athletic!"

Deary me, grown men in a temper tantrum not getting their XXXXL shirt.
Club have played a blinder here, fastest selling shirt ever, getting national media interest, there`s a bit hype about it, folk will be jumping at the chance to get a pre-order in to secure a shirt that`ll get worn a couple of times. Hopefully on the occasions they are match worn, they can get them signed by the players and band, and auctioned off for the charity. Pretty unique, sought after item

It’s still a thing of beauty.
To be fair to the club, the weather has been fantastic which brought out a lot of people on Thursday.
Had it been p1shing it down, they would have struggled to sell as many as they have.
It got loads of outside publicity as well which nobody could anticipate.

Fair play to the club. A lot of criticism has been aimed at them, but this strip and the attention it has attracted as well as the Caceres signing being posted by Fabrizio Romano, the monthly updates and the open evening allowing the kids to see their heroes cannot be underestimated.
I know people will have gripes about some things being done or possibly not being done, but surely the positives more than outweigh the negatives?
I just hope the positive vibes are with us next Friday!

With all this added publicity we could maybe do a Skids day. Stuart Adamson died 16th Dec so maybe the home game nearest that, with perhaps The Skids appearing.
I`m sure it would attract fans from all over and of course the team can play in the 3rd strip and another chance to collect for the chosen charity.

Classic forum stuff that 🤣 folk get more wound up about what other posters are saying than the actual kit itself. Always ends up in a daft divide between the "club should have ordered more" crowd and the “you’re not a real supporter if you don’t like the way it was handled” brigade. Truth is, everyone’s entitled to their view without being told to stop supporting the club. I`m not sure why people think they have the right to make such a wild statement.

Why the hell would anyone be bothered about the selling out of a third kit? Honestly why can’t you just be bloody proud of the club having one in the first place, how popular it is and how they’re going to great lengths to actually do something for the fans.
Why don’t some of you get another f hobby and p off away from our club.

Demand is worldwide according to the latest update on COWS -
`Everyone at Dunfermline Athletic would like to extend a huge thank you to our supporters and fans of the Skids across the globe for the incredible response to the launch of our new third kit.
Since going on sale, demand has exceeded all expectations. We are delighted to confirm that this has already become the biggest-selling kit in recent history.
The reach of the kit has also been extraordinary. Orders have come in from every corner of the UK, all over Europe, a dozen states across the USA and Canada, and even as far away as Australia, highlighting the scale of the backing for both the club, the Skids and this special design.
We want to ensure that every supporter who wishes to guarantee a shirt from the first re-order with Erreà secures theirs, and so we encourage all pre-orders to be completed by Wednesday lunchtime.`

In all the toing and froing on this thread about availability, sizes, etc I don`t think anyone has commended whoever it was who had the idea to launch a kit based on an album cover with a connection to the club, or the person who designed it. In fact, I don`t think anyone has even asked who they were, so I`m asking now. Does anyone know?
I understand it was all Craig Brown`s work
I believe there was some correspondence between Craig and at least one other Pars fan on this dating back to April 2024. She was inspired by the ManU Stone Roses and proposed creating something Skids related. So not 100% Craig.
