Excellent 25 to half time though. Front 3 look dangerous, midfield slightly more in the game. Fraser playing well down the left. Bene been excellent so far too.

Great to be ahead after the pressure we have been under.
Macleod and Caceres did brilliantly for the goal.
We`ll need to make the right changes at the right time to avoid the players tiring here.
Expect to see STJ come out for the second half as they did the first then bring on the likes of Gullan, Ikpeazu and Sprangler.

We`ve rode our luck through the first 20-25 minutes, but been much more competitive in the closing portion of the half. Càceres has been terrific going forward and is picking up the ball all over the pitch. McLeod was phenomenal for the goal both in the build up and the finish.
Interesting to see how we play the 2nd half, St Johnstone will be chucking the kitchen sink at us, so hopefully will be gaps at the back to exploit

That`s just a simply awful goal to concede. I never thought I`d say this, but Mehmet would have done better there.

Should never be losing a game from that position. Defending crosses still a problem it was last season.
Plenty of positives though, away to strongest team in the league and looked good if we cut out the silly errors.

Disappointed by that outcome frankly. Plenty chances at both ends, but it`s 2 bits of poor Pars defending and goalkeeping in the end making the difference. The Pars look good going forward but still not fully on it at the back when it counts. Subs are noticeably weaker than the starters in most areas.

However, aside from the shaky start we competed and could have gotten a hard fought away point to the league favourites.

Well that`s a sickener tonight ! it`s 2 points dropped after a decent performance
I think we all know St Johnstone`s second goal was Munn`s ball all the way , as others have said he made save tonight you would expect him to save !
He clearly doesn`t know that every ball that comes in the box you don`t have to punch it , you are allowed to catch it too , we all know who has cost us a point tonight , Munn is like dracula , scared of crosses
Just dropped what would have been a good point !
And a wee mention to Andrew Tod , hard lines with the free kick and the follow up we all saw the difference an experienced keeper can make
oh well onto Tuesday night noo, no use greeetin too much we cannot change things ! well done to all the players for their efforts tonight

Munn should have at least tried to tip it out for a corner. I initially blamed him but having seen the replay I think he thinks it is going out….. no excuse but Kearney should not have let McPake get a run on him. How McPake manage to squeeze that through Munns legs I will never know. An inch either way and Munn saves that.
Munn had his best game for us too.
First goal……sleeping.
So unlucky at the end.

We actually restricted them to few clear-cut chances after their quick equaliser in the second half but didn`t create anything ourselves apart from the three efforts at the end. Both goals we lost were poor and you really need to pick up points in games like that when you`re under the cosh but manage to score a wonderful goal. Hopefully lessons are learned.
Terrell might get a start on Tuesday. Munn had some good blocks but you`re always worried the ball will go back.into the danger area. He`s here to gain experience and he`s going to make mistakes unfortunately.

I’ve been reading about the “poor judgment” of our goalkeeper.
Give the guy a break he’s 19. (He’s here to get experience if he was the finished article he wouldn’t be here.)
So he will have good and bad games.
He’s not alone I’ve seen experienced Dunfermline ( and international) goalkeepers make horrendous mistakes over the years.
We just need to rely on our training staff to sort these mistakes out.
I’m pretty sure we will be at the upper end of the table come the end of the season.

Not going to lie, I’m gutted but proud of the team for the way we played against, the Champions in waiting, I’m sure.
I said after the Raith game that I thought Munn would cost us points this season, but hopefully he would save us a few as well. I’m really not sure about him and that was his error tonight. In fact, I thought we could have defended both goals better. We got away with it against Arbroath last week, but we just don’t defend cross balls that well, and Munn seems to want to punch pretty easy balls, or just let them go. I have to be honest here and say, 6 games in and I think I would prefer Mehmet in 🙈
He has his critics, but I thought Bene showed again, why he is such a big player for us and was probably our MoTM, although again, there were a number of candidates. The amount he got his head on and blocks he made, he showed exactly what we need at the back. Obviously our deadline day addition is deemed not to be ready yet, but if Bene continues like this then he’ll not be getting dropped for him, or J.Tod returning.
Nights like this, we gotta remember that we are still a work in progress, but it does give me hope that we can put in a Play Off fight, but there is a good bit of work still needing done, but we are getting there.
Onto Tuesday, c’mon ye Pars 🇾🇪

Some seriously over the top criticism of Munn on here tonight. Every goalie will make mistakes, even those that have years of experience! He made a couple of top quality saves in the first half that kept us in the game. You could argue that the defence let him down for both goals. For a young team, going to the top of the table team just relegated from the SPL, they all did us proud tonight and will learn loads from that game. Bring on the rest!

I think realistically speaking, the saves Munn made he should have. He was at fault for the second goal but it`s going to happen with players his age. That`s one of the pitfalls with young players. They will improve with games, but in a tough competitive league and you will get punished in some games for that learning experience. St J are favourites for promotion. We competed well and scored a great goal against them. There has been a massive improvement in terms of our overall play and competitiveness. We are improving with every game but need to learn from the mistakes to make sure we are up there at the end of the season. Good performances will equal points eventually. Our general trajectory is upwards, and right now, for me, that`s the most important thing. One swallow doesn`t make a summer.

Munn made a couple of saves that most goalies would concede, in particular one from McPake, in saying that it goes without saying he should have got the second, but I think we move on. The first goal was the defence, as said we are a work in progress, but a good work in progress!

Big game for Munn tonight and he sold the jerseys, been coming for weeks. I don`t want to add a pile on to the boy but he`s not our player so why are we developing him in a key area, he`s a decent shot stopper, doesn`t come for crosses and can`t kick. I don`t like Mehmet one bit but I don`t see much of a difference tbh.
We done well tonight overall, last season they would have absolutely horsed us so there`s a bit of perspective to be had. Important two games coming up.

They reminded me a bit of playing Livingston last season, a big physical side, but STJ have this combined with more creativity than Livi did. They`ll win the league comfortably. That`s also a team without Mallan and Stanton who would probably get into any other championship team.
Neil Lennon said to the BBC post match that there isn`t enough depth in the squad.... I disagree somewhat. We don`t have the depth of experience that STJ do, but we have quite a few players who seem to have just disappeared - Keith Bray, Connor Young, Deniz Mehmet, Matty Todd.
We also could have brought Kane on for Rudden, then Tod on for Macleod and actually not lost any experience from the side tonight.
A disappointing result in the end but the goal was an excellent move and a joy to see. The two efforts from Tod at the end also took some really special goalkeeping.

I`m not too disappointed tonight, St Johnstone look a good team, plenty of experience. In the first 20 minutes it looked like they could rip us apart- some of their one touch play was cutting us apart, we did well to dig in though.
When Munn went down "injured" that looked like something Lennon had engineered to buy some time to get a bit of a tactical message across to the team, and that change certainly worked. Unlucky with a couple of errors which led to their goals. Munn made some good saves but has some errors in him- he`s 19 though, he will have that. He will go on to have a decent career, I`m sure, but he`ll make plenty of mistakes here, we will be his place to learn.
It would have been great to get Tobi Oluwayemi signed up on a proper long term deal.
A lot of positive signs from the team, just a pity that we couldn`t have got a couple of experienced players in key positions in, I`d have been happy with Mehmet in goals, someone like Scott Brown and a proper leader on the pitch

Absolutely, you’re watching a team being created. It’s the best Pars team for a long time.
Totally.
No positives from any defeat last year - tons to take from tonight.
Work in progress - it`s going to be up & down but you cannot fault the effort tonight. That was sadly lacking, amongst other things, last year.
The football is 100% better in every way despite the loss.
Greatly encouraged by what I`ve seen so far 😎👍🏼
Take off the blinkered glasses. 1 point from 9 against better teams in the league.
We’ll be lower to mid table at best this season.
Playing with no striker for 60 mins is criminal and Lennon accountable for that.
Tod, McLeod and Caceres, none are a standout number 9 yet he leaves Kane on the bench until the last 5 mins. Joke.
Kane is a liability on astro the fact that he`s not trusted to play on grass tells you all you need to know, the last of the shocking signings from the Mcpake era
Honestly, I think that’s a wild way to think

Decent game. Was worried with how the first 15 mins went. We grew in to the game. They are a very good team so credit where it’s due we made a game of it and to me shows clear progress. Not sure if tiredness played a part but second half we seemed to sit deeper and stand off them. KRH sub was strange with better options.
Overall cannot complain they were the better team with the better chances just a bit annoying the manner we conceded. We will have a good season and it’s going to be a battle for 2nd place between ourselves and few other teams but I’m confident we will be challenging for it.

Don’t understand the logic of including County in your made up stats. Arbroath and Airdrie are above them and we took 6/6.

We`ll probably find out how fit Kane is on Tuesday.
Folk were saying how Rudden hardly misses a game as if that was some magical quality he had. As we saw tonight injuries can happen very easily in football with no apparent cause, just bad luck.

This team will improve through the season and like any young team they’ll make mistakes on the way. But they’ll make top 4 I’ve no doubt in my mind. I’d also say that they have so much potential they’ll be a better team than the saints 12 months from now. I can’t understand when fans have watched the 💩the Pars have served up for the last few seasons that some fans can’t get excited by the potential of this team🤷♂️strap yourself in it’s going to be great!

Totally agree WP - was never going to be a miracle cure & we will never ever win every game going.
We have young exciting players who are still gelling as a team but it has been highly encouraging, Rovers game aside, so far.
I haven`t been to a midweek game for a few years but have arranged to get away from work early on Tuesday.
Considering I only went to about 5 games all season last year, thats huge lol 😆
It`s clearly our year 🤪

Tobi`s trials ended up nowhere,he`s just festering away in the doldrums of Celtic. A missed opportunity?
What happened to Keith Bray with all his so called potential?
Where is the Pars supporting defender Davidson (??) that we signed on a one year contract? That just seems like a waste of money if he can`t even make the bench.
Where is Connor Young? If he`s not good enough then send him out on loan.
Matty Todd is surely better than Tash? He can`t be any worse.

I never said it was an achievement, I simply made up a stat to back up my point in the same way that you did.
Not sure how you can watch our games and be disappointed , we’ve improved massively after a terrible few years under the German owners. The improvement this season has been steady but very very clear, especially since we have the youngest team in Scotland. There’s more to come, Raith game aside, we’ve played well in part in every single game this season. A vast improvement.

6 games so far :
Morton (a) 0 0 - take an away draw every time
Airdrie (h) 2 0 - struggled to draw 0 0 at the end of last season even after Hamilton`s downfall meant we were safe
John Tod scores an absolute worldy goal
Rovers (a) 0 2 disappointingly bad night
Lenny makes changes to the team
County (h) 2 2 very good performance, very unlucky not to win
Several players called up for international squads & most played at least some part for their respective teams
Arbroath (a) 5 0 best performance for a long time at a historically difficult away fixture
Andrew Tod was named Scotland`s player of the week
St Johnstone (a) 1 2 poor start but another good performance & cracking goal. Unlucky not to get a point
Don`t see how anyone can say we haven`t improved tbh!

For the first goal the ball should’ve been cleared to avoid giving away a corner but alas a corner is given n we concede. Munn ***** the second. I think we deserved to lose but we 100% do when we gift teams two goals

Although we’ll always have the negative idiots, it’s great to see that this forum is a lot more positive, even in defeat. We’re a young team. A work in progress and I’m confident we’ll improve through the season. I’ve never had anything against Lennon before he came to us but I’m certainly understanding and appreciating him more now. He engineered some great results with Celtic in Europe so it shouldn’t be a great surprise (yes, okay, his second stint with Celtic ended badly…but that’s football). I think our team would have a few more experienced faces if he had his way as well, but I think he’s the difference we needed - I’m massively impressed with our new board and his appointment and the way he presents himself in interviews ( yup - he gets a bit “involved” on the touchline but fine). As for St.J - a few decent footballers in their team that I would have, but I think our young players can grow into them in the next couple of seasons so, just need to be patient. I’m sure we’ll take points off St.J later in season (and others sooner).
All good for me.

Compared to the last few seasons we are a totally different team. Better by miles. Everyone on the pitch is playing there hearts out for the club. There all young and gaining great experience. No one looks out of place tbh. Ive always respected lennon as a manager for what he`s achieved in the game. BUT... the subs against county cost us points and possibly the same tonight and we were continually putting high balls up 2nd half and won none. I thought kane would have come on when mcleod went went off to give us a out ball atleast ..
St johnstone are last years livingston. Big team loads of experience and will win more games than anyone else in the league this year.
Some are quick to slag off munn regarding the goal.. could have done better I guess but what about the saves in the 1st half that kept us in the game...
6 months ago did anyone expect us as a team to be where we are right now.. we will get into the play offs I`m sure.
On to Tuesday and hopefully 3 points in the bag
Cmon ye pars

Firstly I have posted on another post on the defensive mistakes so will talk about the subs.
Tod - done well coming on for rudden. I hope rudden is okay as he provides us with experience up the top area of the pitch.
KRH and TOB looked lost when they came on with neither got involved at all. We need a lot more from those coming off the bench than these 2 offered.
On Kane, I’ve heard there was a bust up with lennon regarding his fitness and willingness to train. If there’s truth in the bust up with Lennon then it explains why he’s barely featuring apart from a cameo role last night. Just feels odd to have him sat there on the bench if he’s not trusted to play. Surely if he’s fit enough for that, he’s fit enough for more than a 10 minute runout.
c'mon the pars

Thought it was a very good game
You could see why saints are top of the league, we couldn’t get near them for spells but we battled hard and refused to be over run and grew into the game.
Think St Johnstone just edged it but proud of the team in the way they kept trying and never gave in.
The saves at the end were phenomenal by the keeper.
We need to stop with the stupid short corners and get it in the mixer, we almost scored when we did that.
Kane should’ve been on a lot earlier to try and hold the ball up and offer more physicality up top once Rudden went off.
Thought Munn had a very good game but he sold the jerseys with the 2nd goal, not a clue what he was doing.
The support was brilliant last night(from both sides) which created a great atmosphere. Good to see so many pars fans applaud the team off, they definitely deserved it after their efforts.
Was a tough way to lose but so much to be encouraged with. Thought Bene, Mullen, Gilmour and Caceres were very good last night.

Gutted we didn’t get anything from the game against by far and away the best team in the league.
It was good to see we are trying to play to our strengths now and not just lumping it up the park to strikers who win nothing in the air. We also competed well against a big physical team, though that was amade’s worst game for us but he still did okay as it was hard going in there. Kearney continues to improve and won’t have harder opposition than mcpake last night but stuck at it.
Didn’t know Tod had a decent free kick in him, so unlucky and you can’t get much closer than that. Could do with being a bit more physical in competing for the ball but hopefully that will come, not sure what’s wrong with Kane that he didn’t get that nod either.
Bene had a great game too, feels like the court case could have a bigger impact on us than we thought if we lose that experienced head in there.
Jefferson was great again, so intelligent in his movement and his first touch gives him the time to do something positive with the ball. McLeod the same, the goal showed what can happen if you have intelligent players make space and picking the passes out and making an intelligent run, we haven’t had that in years.
Bodes well, I’ve gone from thinking mid table to thinking we can make the playoffs this season, 3 home games coming up and if we can win 2 of them it will have been a pretty good start to the season.
The post below replying to me is by one of .nets finest champions of mediocrity!

Didn`t see much of the game last night unfortunately. Can`t help think that Matty Todd could be a better option than KRH as right wing back, with his engine and running. Could also be an option in central midfield when we need to chase a goal, more so than TOB.
Also a bit worried that Bray (another right wing back or attacking midfielder) can`t get a look in. If Kane isn`t fit, then put Connor Young on the bench, don`t think he has been as poor as some people have made out. If Kane is fit, he needs more than 5 minutes.

Probably the first time we have been in a winning position since April 2022.
Lennon definitely has a system and has got a squad that buys into it and players signed to play that way. We didn't have that under mcpake and Tidser.
