Can`t see it going ahead I`m afraid, the main stand side probably frozen.

Club is happy with the pitch at present, and to be no colder overnight tonight than it has been all week. County just have no interest in this game going ahead.

The grass here in the west is rather frozen right now and I doubt that it would take a stud so hopefully the covers do their job.

Will most likely come down to travelling conditions for players and staff who live in Dingwall.
I would say fans but we already know the SPFL don’t give a damn about them.

Weather forecast isn’t for heavy snow tomorrow in Dingwall so here’s hoping.

RC are riddled with a sickness bug, and have recalled a couple youths from loans with local Highland League clubs.
I half expected them to ask for a postponement earlier in the week tbh. The weather may be an easy excuse to have the match called off, and allow the team to recover

No, of course not. What I meant was,I`m not sure what the repercussions of asking for a match to be postponed due to sickness is. Is there a fine, or loss of points? Presumably not, I`d imagine there would be no comeback for County, but perhaps they`ve taken a bit of a gamble on the long-term weather, rather than having to ask for the match to be cancelled anyway.

I imagine they`ll be praying for our pitch to freeze and for more snow up there. That would give the new manager more time with the players.

Interestingly, when looking at the BBC weather app it doesn`t say `do not travel` against any of the coloured weather warnings. That seems to be down to the local authorities...so maybe Uncle Roy will get onto the local coppers and get the notice put out not to travel. 😂

Common sense and logic go out the window in these situations.

Even if RC can get down the road tomorrow the weather could worsen into Saturday night making the return trip a hazardous trip.

Nobody can predict with any certainty one way or the other - postponing the game is the least worse case scenario.

There is a bus up there belonging to Dunfermline City Brass, who were hired to play all through the night at various times. Don’t know why 👿 😂.

Just checked the cameras on the A9 and unless there is improvements throughout the morning then I doubt we will see any Ross County supporters. If there are any, they need the reward of a hot homemade soup.

Club can’t win either way spend a fortune on under soil heating & the game still isn’t guaranteed. For the sake of a couple of games it’s not worth the expense.

A winter shutdown + more games at the start/end of summer would be my choice. Watching football in shirts sleeves or freezing conditions - no brainer.

Seems to be a bit of confusion here.
Is the pitch frozen and was it even checked?
Going by Ross County’s page it was more to do with safety issues travelling.

Yeah but as we know, cold winter weather can go well into March.
Then we have tournaments like the World Cup or the Euros every two years so players that are involved get no rest or pre season training.

Picture of ref on pitch on our post, not sure if today mind you.

County trying to claim it was “adverse weather conditions” probably because they didn’t travel last night and if game had gone ahead to try use that as next reason.

It was the under soil heating that killed our pitch last year (or the season before). No wonder it’s not getting used if that’s the risk and it doesn’t guarantee to get games on.

I`m sure it`s a combination of travel safety, pitch being in a challenging condition and the general weather. Under soil heating works to a point but it`s a piping system competing with the elements. Also the main stand shades the entire touchline so I doubt it gets any sunlight at this time of year to help defrost the pitch.

Given the TV exposure for the Hibs game, I reckon the referee will be kindly invited to declare an ice rink playable.

I’m glad tbh… normally go home after games this time of year in a bit of pain due to hands and feet being completely numb (and that’s using charged up hand warmers etc)

Doesn’t make sense really to sit in near freezing temperatures for a couple of hours outside when you think about it

You`d have thought that when we had the old pitch ripped up, we would have swapped the old undersoil system for a newer one before we put the new pitch down.

I`m not sure if the covers or undersoil system help, as it seems to be the same bit of the pitch that always seems to be the problem. Probably a question for the next supporters meeting.

Shirt sleeves = Big crowd

Baltic conditions = Hardcore Low crowd.

Bigger clubs go on Asian/Middle east tours post/pre season.

I think it’s worth a try shutting down Jan/Feb & see how that helps teams financially.

I said the same to the wife. We went for a walk, and it was freezing. I`m happy I`m not sitting on a freezing plastic seat.

I’m sure it will be pleasantly warm on a Tuesday night in a few weeks

Just walked along to get tickets for the cup game, NW stand would be pretty cosy, but the bitter wind would be cutting through everyone in the Main and Norrie...

I’m with DBP - wasn’t looking forward to sitting in the Norrie with a bitingly cold wind blowing into us. Took the dog for a walk earlier and it was absolutely baltic.

Amazing comments, nothing to do with covers or undersoil heating, it`s to do with them not able to get here safely.

Nope. Pitch deemed unplayable in “Small Areas” …..

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

The club specifically states it’s due to parts of the pitch being frozen.

I think there are several issues;

1. RC players that may travel from the north
2. Away supporters travelling from the north
3. Amber weather warning in the north and the challenges travelling to and from the game
4. Cost of putting on the undersoil heating given the points above
5. Early decision to avoid unnecessary travel

Sensible all-around decision in my view in light of the above

we arent using the undersoil heating....thats why they bought covers! buying them if they cant handle this kind of weather is pointless though.

So what if the pitch had been passed playable ?

That would cause a big drama.

That would work nicely with a 16 team league and 8 less fixtures in a season so can have a proper winter break. Wont hold our breaths though.

I don`t see a winter break working to be honest

You have clubs , especially part time ones , having to pay wages with no income.

Is that not the same scenario as the summer break we’ve had since Adam was laddie - just a different time of the year/season ?

Is it not in the clubs favour to have a longer summer break and more time with players being out of contract?

I expect there`s an easy way around it but change always puts people off.

And I would be up for it if it meant the Tennents Sixes started again!

Ireland, Norway, Sweden and Finland play their

have any problems.

Well it would work if it`s just a straight season, rather than a winter break to split, not sure if it would work or not.

100% agree.
There`s always been something romantic about football played in the snow, under floodlights, crisp winter air etc, but realistically as the candles on the cake increase, the joints take longer to thaw out after sitting for a couple of hours on a cold, damp plastic seat each week.
I`ll still turn up each cold January match, but I`d be much more comfortable with July weather

Would the attendance really improve? Family holidays, etc., and people tend to plan more when it`s nicer weather than the winter months. What would happen in the Euros and WC years?

The evidence of the Cup fixtures in July would point to no on this one, for the reasons mentioned above.

I went to the Sweden game at hampden in euro 202(0)1. This was the summer and it was cold.

I don't think for smaller teams we would be better off playing summer football.

I think losses due to holidays would be more than balanced by folk going, who don`t like the cold. More families, and visitors to the City as there is fk all else to do.

It’s 2026….

People go holidays all year round.

I just think it may be worth trying summer football. Give it a go & see if it works. Start with the lower leagues so it doesn’t interfere with European football & take it from there.

You’ve seen the Pars now please go home!

Yeah just saw that on Facebook Sun Sport, strange that Aberdeen game going ahead due to apparent armagedon in the Aberdeen area.

Also saying that it's due to accident on A9!

We’ve had some light rain and slight thaw locally - that on top of hard playing surface at Livi might have made the pitch tricky ?
