With us playing Arbroath 3 times in a week, the first game really only matters for who plays at home when. So, do we go out for the win to get a morale booster ahead of the 2 playoff games, or do we play a 2nd string team to rest our key players?

We`ve already played each other four times this season. I don`t think there are too many surprises to be pulled.
Go for it with the strongest team. Beat them in the league and then beat them again twice in the play offs.

I think Lennon said we want to win. Momentum is important. Maybe it wasn`t him though. I read it somewhere. I think.

I think we are more than capable of beating them with a “second string” team.
I’m sure we will rotate.
Folks are forgetting that Arbroath could well rotate.

I`d rotate the team. The advantage of having the first XI fresh is greater than the advantage of having the 2nd leg at EEP imo
If all goes well we`ll have two games per week for a while, so take the rest while we can

We also seem to be underestimating Arbroath, sure they they aren`t on great form just now, but of the 3 games this season, they have won 2, including the game at EEP, and the game we won it was probably our best performance of the season... We need to be fully up for the battle in the playoffs, because it IS going to be a battle...

Well said D3monstrate, it going to be a battle and in Lennon mind he has said before confidence is important and a defeat on Saturday may affect confidence going into play offs. A win will inspire confidence and gives an edge in mentality going into a game.
Hope to see an element of rotation out but not too much. So want to see us win every remaining game we have 🏁🏁

If, as some have said, that there`s a financial incentive to finishing 3rd, then it would be wise to play a strong team and go for the win.

I think Lennon is exaggerating how little he is bothered about finishing 3rd to take the pressure off and to be able to play it down if we fail to beat them on Friday. He wasn`t entirely honest about Andrew Tod before the semi! They are strong at home, only 2 league defeats (yes one was a skelping by us, but that is an anomaly). You can argue that we are not as strong as home, but still, a second leg at EEP plus the extra prize money is better.
I am sure there will be some rotation. Bene, Hamilton and Cooper may all start. Kearney as well probably. I`d also like to see Bray get a start as he was good against Airdrie, then there is Fyffe. John Tod probably starts again. We can rotate and still put out a strong team.

I would have thought we would want the first leg away from home and try and get a result that sets us up for the second leg at home where Arbroath would have to open up and go for a win. Playoffs are like cup ties in which we have a good track record

Not sure they are that similar to cup games, two-legged ties are different. Our record in them is also poor, we have lost to Aberdeen (understandable), Dundee United & Raith (unfortunate), Alloa (during admin) and Cowdenbeath (disaster). I could be wrong, but the only ties we have won were Forfar & Stranraer.
Having said all that, it shouldn`t have any effect on the current team, none of them were involved and we have a young, confident and vibrant squad.

So if Pars were to make 11 changes and Arbroath won, would that give them a psychological advantage ?

I`m not sure playing a weaker selection on Friday will improve our chances of winning the play-off. After NL telling the world JCM and AT wouldn`t be available for the Cup SF I take anything he says with a pinch of salt!

I know based on last year, Partick were absolutely dead on their feet when they played Livingston in the semi after the first 2 games against Ayr.
Rest as many as possible this weekend, we have enough about us over 2 games to get the better of them!

At first I laughed off NL`s criticism of the SFA disciplinary system which means Charlie Gilmour is one booking away from a two-match suspension which could apply during the play-offs. After all, NL is no friend of the SFA and he has been suspended himself this season. But the more I think about it I sèe his point.
Why should a player from a club successful in reaching the play-offs be treated differently from those whose season is over after 36 League games? Gilmour`s disciplinary record over the season is effectively going to be judged over a random number of games, potentially 38, 40 or 42, depending on how far we go, with no adjustment in the total number of bookings which qualify for a suspension. As I understand it, if he gets a yellow card during the play-offs he will serve a two-match ban starting in 7 days. Presumably if he picked up his 12th yellow card in game 42 he would have to serve a two-match ban at the start of next season!
As NL says that`s Draconian and it`s unfair. If you`re under 12 cautions at game 36, wipe the slate clean and maybe have separate rules for the play-offs, like 2 cautions mean a one-match ban as usually happens in tournament football.

Would be best to reset the yellow cards before the playoffs games start. That way the teams involved in the playoffs have the best chance of fielding their strongest players. Surely it would make for better games, helping the teams looking to move up also the teams looking not to drop down a league.

they would be under the old rules that were changed about 10 years ago, after the 18th game it goes to 12 bookings for a ban so they arent close.
when that changed, why add a cut off at the half way point but not do a cut off at he end of the season? 6 in 18, 12 in 36 then through the playoffs it goes up to 18, easiest and fairest way to do it for all players involved in the playoffs. another change should be remove the 7 days timeline and make it the next game.
"Presumably if he picked up his 12th yellow card in game 42 he would have to serve a two-match ban at the start of next season!"
it doesnt carry forward as it was picked up in the playoffs.
back to the original topic, full reserve side for me, im not giving Arbroath and some of their characters almost a free shot at our key players ahead of the more important games.
