Player of the year - event Today
Topic Originator: General Zod

This question is now near impossible to answer. The only way I think you could get close is to try and imagine who we’d struggle most with if they weren’t there. For me it’s either Fraser, Gilmour or Ngwenya. I genuinely can’t pick one. Andrew Tod’s first full season for us too. What a team we have now. Just imagine if we can keep them together.

Can`t argue with that threesome. Gilmour and Fraser must be our two best signings for many seasons, and Ngwenya has been a revelation since his `lazarus` return from the unwanted. Andrew Tod`s first season has been wonderful, and I have high hopes for Keith Bray. Think he might get a bit of a run in the team now.

Gilmour makes it look easy - so you miss what he does sometimes
Ngwenya hasn`t played enough games - but ***** on a bike - where was that player lurking before
Tod has peaked, dipped and coming onto form again and could be that 20 goals a season every club wants
Robbie Fraser- seamless - class in a glass - POTY

Gilmour reminds me of Gary Mason. Nothing remarkable or fancy but if he wasn’t in the team you would absolutely know about it. Gets in amongst it and has that football intelligence that doesn’t always come naturally to players. A great signing.

Gilmours pass out to Fraser for the 3rd was outstanding

Any one of Fraser, Gilmour, Ngwenya for me. Fraser is such a class player - pinpoint passes, takes the ball down straight away, I`m surprised The Rangers let him go, and surprised we got him .

Will probably be Tod, and I wouldn`t complain about that.

A few contenders, shows you the general improvement. Gilmour and Fraser shadr it for me for consistency but wouldn`t argue against the ither contenders, Ngwenya, what a turnaround!

I think Fraser just shades it for me. Gilmour a close 2nd.

Tod young player of the year.

I also think Todd and Ngewnya have earned new contracts. Both have become vital for this team.

Fraser is one of the most consistent players in that team. Pretty remarkable for a 22 year old. Baffling that he’s never played for Scotland at any youth levels. Further highlights what a complete dud Scott Gemmil is.

I`d give it to Ngwenya right now. He`s been a total revelation and seems to be getting better as the season goes on. He was a rock last night and the goals he`s scored have been really decisive.

BUT

JCM - He`s had blips, but he`s been so important all season. He`s able to adjust seamlessly from a back three to a back four and he`s now our most capped u21 player.

Abdulai - A couple of bad matches, but mostly majestic. What a find. Shame he was out for a while.

Fraser - I thought he dipped for a few games after the Hibs match (in which he was immense). He seems to be back on form. He`s good going forward, but I really like it when he digs in at the back and no one gets past him.

Gilmour - Class, but also happy to dig in when needed. He`s had such a consistent season.

Amade - Hasn`t played enough to be POTY this season, but what a player.

Andrew Tod - What a breakout season. He`s forced himself into the u21s. He`s forced NL to pick him almost every week. He`s been amazing and I think there`s more to come as he gets stronger and gains experience.

Matty Todd - He`s had almost as big a transformation as Ngwenya. There have been a few moments of total brilliance, but he`s probably too inconsistent to be a real contender this year.

So that`s more than half the team that are decent picks for POTY. That`s pretty remarkable in any season. NL and the coaches have to take a lot of credit, especially for the players that have turned things around.

I think thats a fair assessment. For me probably Robbie Fraser edges it given he has played most of the season.

POTY - Fraser
YPOTY - Abdulai
GOTS - Todd v Aberdeen

Could easily have given it to anyone in all three categories.

Gilmour, Fraser and Tod have probably contributed the most across the entire season.

Agree with other names mentioned but they didn`t feature so much in the early parts of the season.

You can end up with egg on your face making these nominations before the season end, especially with so much still to play for in the Cup and the League.

Maybe so but given it’s the club that put this out on Friday for our nominations it is worth discussing.

Discuss it all you like but you wouldn`t name the winner of a mile race after three laps. It seems to be the norm amongst clubs but aren`t some of the national awards announced at the end of the season?

Ffs the club has asked for us to vote now so it’s being discussed. Is there anything you won’t argue about?

I tend to agree. There are three or even four candidates who will be poty. However there is a lot of football still to be played and some very important and some season defining ones too..

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

If you could translate your comment into proper English it would help. So many folk on here just can`t handle others expressing a different view from them.

Who are you to tell posters to shut up? The forum actually benefits from people having different opinions. More traffic means more advertising income and I think some of that goes to the club.

Obviously a crazy take, but discussing the POTY because the club have put it out there and the opinion that it is a bit early given the runway left this season are both valid.

We’ve played 31 out of 36 league games surely that’s a large enough sample size? Seems unfair to criticise the club on this one.

Gilmour was my pick closely followed by Fraser.

There`s a practical reason why clubs organise these nominations before the end of the season. The players will disappear after the last game and some of them won`t return.

For the last time, I wasn`t criticising anyone. I was simply making the point that it can sometimes be premature to make these judgements before the season ends, especially when there is still a lot to play for. Somebody could do something that makes him a legend for life and miss out on the POTY award!

Yeah take someone like a Keith Bray for example if he now goes on and scores a hat trick in the semi final wins us all the play off matches with last minute goals then scores a hat trick in the final your still not going to give him POTY. The good thing about doing it the now is you get to look at the full season not at the end when your only focused on what happened at the end. Like when goal of the year was shown I was shocked John Tod’s goal was still in this season felt about last season because of the amount of games we’ve played since then.

Stunned that a harmless throwaway remark is completely misinterpreted and the poster is pounced upon because of who he is rather than what he said.

No wonder I hardly ever post on here. It`s poisonous at times.

Also just to add the difference is that this is player of the year so technically runs from when it was last announced so how ever many games before the end of the season to this moment. If it was player of the season then yes it would be too early to run it for the season

Gilmour and Tod Got my vote.
The brilliant thing is the young player of the year has Tod, Abdulai, Mullen, Ngwenya, Fraser, Bray, Turley.. all starting every week (minus bray). We’ve built a great young squad who are only going to be better next year, if we can hang onto them.

Just wanted to share my thoughts on fraser

When we signed edwards he was signed to develop and sell for good profit, when he signed he was raw and had a lot of learning to do, now sadly he got a bad injury and has been kept out of action at charlton, however he wouldve 100% started most games, showcasing his abilty at a higher level

With fraser he has been signed yet again to develop, however he has a much higher ceiling and he has came to us more developed than edwards was

I think fraser can go even further than edwards has and i hope he does as he is a fantastic wee player

I think Robbie has come on leaps and bounds and has attained a very high level of consistency. I agree that he will be playing at a higher level in the next few years.

To be fair i think Fraser was a step back for two steps forward in his career type of thing with the grounding and pedigree he had coming through at Rangers.

Also heard we offered better terms than one or two SPL teams who were in for him so he wasn`t as out of nowhere as Edwards was at the time he joined.

He`s been absolutely brilliant for us though and offers much more going forward than Edwardz ever did. The 1st touch and technique he possesses in taking long cross field passes under control is sublime.

It may deserve it`s own thread but thought Bord was extremely positive as well as emotional.

He took time to acknowledge Lennon and said `I would go to war with you anytime my friend`. He has his back and Lennon acknowledged it.

On Bene, that he was a true leader on and off the park who backs his teammates. Without saying it there was an inference to the widely publicised court case.

He spoke about Hammy in a similar way, about how good he is.

Tash about that winning penalty got a mention too.

He really does seem to be heavily invested and not just financially.

Bord said that, clearly, he is involved with other clubs but that the Pars are the team that has got under his skin.

Really enjoyable afternoon.

Great to see several players being rewarded & a sign that we have a good squad that it wasn`t just 1 guy sweeping the board.

Very impressed with Robbie Fraser both today & at the recent sponsors event - that boy has a football brain & is mature beyond his years 👏🏼👏🏼

First time I have heard James Bord talk about us and I actually felt emotional as he was talking. From not really knowing why someone like him would take over a club like ours, I now totally trust him & Lenny to take us forward.

We have some fantastic people involved & these lads can only get better.

Brilliant to see Shaggy Jenkins & Scott Wilson inducted into the Hall of Fame & there`s no way they could have an event like that & not honour Mo Hutton.

It`s finally good to be a Par once more - onwards & upwards 🏁👏🏼😎👍🏼

COME ON YE PARS!
