Stating the obvious in these situations - but the first goal is key, especially early on - if the Pars go head they are in the driving seat - if Arbroath then it`s game on.

A solid defensive draw in order to progress against a well organised and hard working team will suffice. We are hardly going to be taking the game to Celtic so displaying the defensive side of our game tonight is just as important

John Tod starts and Abdulai in midfield according to the Pars facebook. Amade dropped to the bench.
I see the logic in having a big more muscle in the middle against Arbroath but honestly I thought Nuru looked poor in there on Tues, Charie looked scared to pass to him at times

Also another body in there who is good in the air for defending set pieces and even by kicks as they`ll be getting slung in from all angles if the wind picks up.

It looked like NL had tried Nuru out in midfield from the QP game, I susprct as part of advamced planning for the playoffs. We struggled in midfield on Friday in tge 2nd half so this should shore us up a bit and give us a bit of a threat with height from corners and set pieces around the box. I think its a good move.

We knew it would be tough up here but we have won here this season and can do again. Only one player I am really not impressed with is Morrison. He runs to look busy but doesn’t seem to contribute (watch this he will score or assist and I’ll look like a blue t1t !!)
Hopefully we can get a bit of momentum in this second half and score a goal or two and maintain a clean sheet. COYP

Not a great game but we’re showing very little composure in possession.
Morrison and Andy Tod showing very little and giving the ball away all the time. Morrison too small and Tod just too timid in a physical game like tonight. Morrison a player who at this level when he’s on his game he’s a good championship level player but when he’s not he looks out of his depth.
Still they have to score and as they start to push on we might just catch them and with Kane we are always dangerous.
Matty Todd just not a right winger but can’t see other options who will stand up physically.

That final pass still been poor when the opportunity arises, hopefully Lenny can bring in the quality in the summer to give us it. Morrison isn’t going to give us it more often that not.
Still onwards and upwards, they will have to be on top of their game to get the better of thistle.

John Tod played better at the centre of the back 3. Cannot play on either side as he is too slow. More commanding in the middle.
Morrison should not start the game on Tuesday.

Truly awful game, no composure on the ball and the pitch didn’t help either.
Well done to the guys for battling through though. Will need to be a lot better against PT but we’re through to the next round playing poorly which is a good sign hopefully.

The defence was superb. Thank goodness NL didn`t sub JT as suggested by some on here. Abdulai was effective in midfield as the game progressed.
He did go on to have a good game, but it was certainly a gamble to keep him on after such a shakey start and early yellow.

The front 3 really struggled to keep a hold of the ball tonight. It`ll be a big call to see who plays on Tues.
Could see Cooper in for Morrison, who hasn`t had much joy the last two games, but it could be argued that Morrison has done what was needed of him and ran himself into the ground for the team.
Does Amade come back in? And then does Nuru go back into the back 3? J Tod was great after we changed it around tonight, but it`s probably not our preferred set up

As much as I thought Abdulai is never a midfielder and we missed that bit of composure that Amade or Oakley-Boothe give us, with hindsight, Lennon got it spot on. He`s tested him out in that position in a few games, and he was exactly the sort of disruptor that was needed in the midfield tonight, against a team that made it a scrap

Not all games of football are beautiful. We came, we battled and we won. We’re now capable of handling and managing these types of games and we have the quality to hang on and get over the line. Ox tonight showed great composure after his miss judged tackle and pulled off another great penalty save. That’s the kind of quality we have in the squad now. Mullen is another example. Never gives up and has an uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time. Everyone put a shift in tonight to get the job done against one of the best defensive sides in the league. COYP!

A good battling performance , but Arbroath made sure there was going to be no football played tonight, constant niggling fouls that were ignored by the referee, and unlike the 2nd half at EEP , they just played hoof ball, got what they deserved, and we go on.

"Agreed. Thought Fraser had a stinker."
Seconded - his poorest game since he came to the club.
However we know he has the goods - every player has an off day.
Andy Todd also came into that category last night - and Morrison contributed little ............again.
J.Todd was excellent after a wobbly start and the central defence played well - JCM`s goal line clearance was crucial, as was Aston`s penalty save.
Gilmour another sound performance despite being battered and clattered throughout.

Yeah that wasn`t a game last night for pretty football. Arbroath tried to bully the pars boys out of the game but they stood up to it well.
Arbroath never created a great deal over the 2 legs, the penalty was just a loss of concentration from Fraser compounded by Oxborough being forced to come out and make a decision. What a save from the penalty though, so imposing in the goal, and has come through for us in these big games.
Thistle will be a different proposition and more of a goal threat, hopefully the boys can recover and go again Tuesday.
What a great season it has been to make up for all the farcical ones we`ve endured in recent years at this level.

One big plus for me from these two games is that Charlie Gilmour has discovered that it`s possible to be effective as a midfield `enforcer` without giving away needless fouls and getting booked. I hope he carries it into next season.
It was heartening to hear in their post-match interviews how much Chris Kane and Aston Oxborough are enjoying being at the club. I wonder if Motherwell would be difficult to deal with if we expressed an interest in signing the Ox on a permanent basis? Billy Terrell`s not ready yet to be considered as the regular first-team keeper but he could be a reasonable understudy I think.

The onus was on Arbroath to take the game to us. Apart from the penalty and the one cleared off the line by Mullen, they were not up to much. I thought we did what we needed to do. If we had pushed for a goal we didn’t really need, we could have lost one at the other end. Partick will bring a new set of challenges, but I think we will be set up completely differently. If Partick beat us, they deserve to go up.

Arbroath v Morton in January would be the record. In a game played predominantly at the amusement arcade end due to extremely windy conditions both goalkeepers when occupying that end opted to kick the ball straight out over the main stand in order to prevent it blowing straight back towards them.
