Hopefully we can start the game well tonight. The mental approach will be very important. Its all to play for. We have shown we are a better side than them. When the chances come, we need to be composed and focussed to take them.

Really difficult game to call, I think it may be a step too far and Thistle have the better strength in depth just now to freshen things up as well. But with this current team and manager nothing would surprise me.
A win tonight would truly be a special achievement considering the number of games over this closing portion of the season and how good Thistle have been all year.

We really need to target Ashcroft tonight, he was absolutely blowing out his aarse the other night towards the end of the game and he knew it.
This is a special group of players and Lennon will have them right up for this game, what a season it has been, The feel good factor really is back within the club on and off the field, we have really been through it for the last decade but this really could be a turning point!

We`ve seen it when he was with us, if you can isolate Ashcroft in 1v1s at pace, force him into uncomfortable decisions and have a competent referee to pull him up you have a shot.
Let`s just hope the referee tonight does us some favours as Nicolson certainly wasn`t interested in helping us at all

Ashcroft also struggled for pace. They make up for it though by having Smyth sit in front of him most of the time.
I didn`t think the fullbacks in Reading and McPherson were great for them. Hopefully Morrison stays wide and we can get him and Tod/Todd running at them.

As much as we have a poor record in playoffs as a club, we don`t as a team. These lads only have Arbroath and we`re still here.
Partick, on the other hand, have failed four years in a row. I don`t follow them closely enough but a lot of the current team will have experienced one, more or all of those failures. It can work in their favour if they`re resilient enough, but the longer it goes on the more it might work in ours.
There for the taking.

Na. They have better subs. The longer it goes favours them. We need to do the business promptly.
We will both get chances. All about who takes them.
We can defo do this but I`m just not sure we will. It will be a cracking atmosphere and they will go all out for 90 mins plus.

If Motherwell avoid defeat tomorrow they finish 4th qualifying for Europe. However if we then win the cup I think we`d pinch that off them. So I can understand why they might want to recall him to scupper our chances. Not sure if they`d be allowed to though?

Whether we progress tonight or not has no implications for Motherwell, so if he was recalled, you would imagine it was for legit reasons.

Is there any confirmation that Motherwell are a keeper down due to sickness/injury?
If not, then the only other reason would be that they want Ox in goals tomorrow as they may see him as the better keeper.
If that`s the case, it`s absolutely shocking. I don`t know the contractual ins and outs about it`s legality, but morally that`s poor.
Equally, they could easily say their keeper picked up a knock in training, and we`d never be able to prove it.
If they genuinely need an emergency keeper, that`s understandable, but if not then that`s really poor at this stage in the season

Ox has to be released back to us after tomorrows game. His recall is effectively an emergency loan to Motherwell from us. Im guessing Ward took a dunt in his challenge with Maeda.

Two things.
Very very poor goalkeeping for both their goals.
We looked very comfortable until that equaliser.
We had a very weak bench Abdulai excepted who couldn’t do what we had in the first half in terms of Matty and Kane.
It was all hit and hope towards the end.
I’d rather Partick had earned that victory.
They didn’t.
We handed it to them on a plate.

It is what it is. Disappointing but Partick deserved the win. While I`m annoyed at Motherwell, it`s not their fault. We`ve known for a few seasons now that a keeper is needed desperately. I don`t think Terrell can be blamed either. Both were a bit of a defensive c*ck up and he`s been thrown in last minute.
Perfect storm for us, unfortunately.
Let`s hope we can put this behind us and enjoy the cup final.

We haven’t been consistent all season Partick pretty much have. We came together properly after that Hibs game - I think that really gave all our players confidence in themselves. Since then we have been far more consistent.
Not going to blame Terrell either, he kept his head to not pick it up, he just panicked a bit and never lifted the ball up with the kick.
The sheer amount of games as well in this last couple of months is mental. In fairness it was a massive ask and the boys done well.
Onwards to Hampden and whatever that brings ! Either way I am proud of our team. At one point sitting near the bottom to where we have ended up. Semi final of play off and a Scottish cup final.

Sadly we couldn’t take our first half chances in both the first and second leg. We had plenty of opportunities to score more than one goal in each leg but just don’t have consistent strikers apart from Kane.
Still the league campaign has been amazingly entertaining and we’ve still got the Cup Final to look forward to.
It must of been very tough for Billy to come in and he made some good saves but ultimately his inexperience was evident. That’s no fault of his and I’m sure he will learn from it but it’s very unfair to place all the blame on him. Amade should of just punted it out the pitch.

Motherwell did us no favours by disrupting things just before our biggest game of the season.
Billy`s not ready yet.
Looked tired second half - never offered anything once Kane went off.
We`re not far away! Get the pen on Tuesday & we`re playing extra time right now. The Championship is always fine margins.
Go again next year with nothing to fear - we have a good record v Livvy and hopefully St Mirren come down and offer nothing.
Still proud of them - this time last year we were helped by Hamilton's point deduction to stay up.

A pass back is when it`s deliberately kicked to the GK by a teammate. There was no way that was a deliberate pass and he could have picked it up.

The team have done amazingly well to have got this far, given we were concerned about relegation not so long ago. Losing the keeper we have relied on so heavily of late really didn`t help but on reflection, no excuses, on the night we didn`t offer enough of a threat up front. To be fair, PT were better on the night. I thought we looked tired and PT were much sharper in the 2nd half We could have done better with our chances, but we never really tested the keeper. Our own worst enemy at times as has been said. We didnt do enough to win the game at the end of the day. Its been a good league campaign and the good thing is no injuries for the cup final. We wont get many chances next week so we have to rise to the challenge and take them. A good season under the belt for the younger players that shoukd stand them in good stead for next season.

It was clearly a pass back - the ref would have given that for sure.
Terrell made the right decision, just executed poorly and Thistle got a huge slice of luck - which given their performance over the season they probably merited.
I think St Mirren will take them though - Smyth is key for Thistle and can`t play.

The lads have done tremendously well this season to get to the point where there wasn`t much between the two sides. Terrell is a young keeper, I really feel for him tonight, but we would have won that with The Ox or Mehmet in goals.
Michael Stewart made a really good point there, that this might help us, regarding The Cup Final, which we can now concentrate on rather than spread ourselves too thinly and end up with nothing from either game

I don`t rate Terrell at all. Aside from the goals he`s cost us over the season he`s had loads of mistakes that we got away with.
Even tonight he had a ridiculous fresh air swipe outside his box and two shanked clearances before the goals.
22 isn`t even that young, the Partick keeper tonight was 21, and he`s a better keeper in every aspect. The St Johnstone keeper this season was younger than Terrell.
Honestly I`d have Mehmet on the bench for the final.

Once Kane went off, we lost any real threat of getting back into the game. Most of these players have featured in the majority of the 50 games this season. It`s not an excuse, but it’s definitely a factor.
Fraser wasn’t at his best again tonight, which really limited us creatively. Cooper also has to offer more when he comes on more often not just jogs around without impacting the game.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

There is a reason why no team has achieved promotion from 3rd or 4th place in the championship and that is the number of games they have to play in a very short time. Maybe thats seen fair as they should have the hardest task due to their league position but in my opinion these playoffs should be played as one of ties played in a neutral grounds and the final one at hamden. But of course the SFA wouldnt make so much money out of it. I just hope the pars players can get their batteries recharged before next weeks final as quite a few of the players are looking a bit mentally as well as physically tired. Honestly I don’t know what is more laughable the wild conspiracy theories on Facebook about Motherwell somehow doing this deliberately to stop us winning the cup because it would do them out of a European place
Or the melt down by some because it’s somehow cost us the game nah I’m sorry but it was our performance and two complete howlers from Terrell which btw is the reason Ox was brought in on loan in the first place once again our inability to properly address the goalkeeper situation has bit us in the bottom again
Blame Motherwell all you want but they were within their rights to recall him for tomorrow as per the terms of his loan deal

I`m not jumping on Terrell, he`s a young keeper with not a huge amount of experience put in an incredibly difficult situation. He`ll be more gutted than anyone with how tonight`s gone.
Ultimately for me, we weren`t clinical enough which is the main thing that`s cost us over the course of the tie. We`ve lacked quality to bring off the bench, whereas Thistle had options that can change a game for them and freshen things up. Proud of the player`s efforts, they`ve given it everything.
Onto the cup final, a little bit of a break after some gruelling games. Both mentally and physically they need to rest up and get in the right headspace. It`s going to be an almighty task, but they`ve proven they`re more than a match for Premiership teams on their day.

John Tod done more as a striker in the last 5 mins than anyone else, should have put him up there earlier. Cooper is too lightweight.

I think Terrell needs to do better on both goals, especially the first. Once that goes in it almost seemed as if the last 50 games caught up us. Mullen also slow reacting for the 2nd.
Really hope we can sign Oxborough for next season. Him not being in the team has probably cost us tonight.

Morrison bugs me. He scores the half chances and absolutely squafs the others. He was superb on Tuesday. It better not be the case of agent so and so. The chances hes squandered since joining is bothering me.

Over the course of the season thistle were better than us.
First leg I think we were the better team and should have had a lead.
Second leg they were by far the better team but had we had ox in goals they goals wouldn’t have happened. Team as a whole were poor but Andrew Tod would’ve have been as well standing in the dug out. He’s done nothing for weeks. Mullin was poor again. Agree with other comments mehwmt should have started but doesn’t matter that both ship goals and neither are good enough. Going out to goal keeping errors is hard to take but thistle deserve it so can’t complain. Unless ox is back for final we have zero chance.
On the a Tod. He has been poor but what I will say is he is useless out wide he needs to be playing centrally.
Forgot to mention Matty Todd going off was a disgrace.

Things went to pot when Kane and Amade went off.
Why did NL disrupt things too much by taking off two players at the same time who were playing well ??

Partick far better at the shithousery side of the game than us.
They looked better on the ball and more dangerous in the final third with their better nous.

Excellent post, king lad.

An excellent post from Kirkliston par, too.
Too many of us are slagging off individual players for individual mistakes. It`s a team game. We came up short over two legs v Thistle due to a combination of tiredness, missed chances, and yes, individual errors. Thistle also had more quality on the bench.
I hope we can console ourselves with a shock cup win next week and promotion next season.

In a weird way, I think losing last night will improve our chances of winning the cup. A wee much needed rest and motivation to right the wrongs. To be honest, I don’t care much for promotion. The top flight isn’t much better than the championship. More losses for us and even more poor refereeing.

Had we got through to the play off finals, the matches wouldn`t have taken place until after the SC final, so we`ve not actually gained any more time to rest up before playing Celtic

Happy clapper central! This place is full of tartan blanket main standers for sure or folk who don’t really care!
Cliche statements like football is team game!? Get off your imaginary moral high ground!
Clear goal opportunities missed - Morrison has to hold his hands up and say he has lacked composure since signing. Whether in possession or striking.
Fraser fell off a cliff in the play offs and through balls into his own box became his biggest danger rather than crossing at the other end.
Andy Tod never got near the treatment Kane got but he was flappin about like a pair eh nickers on a washing line last night when he wasn’t half heartedly closing players down.
Terrel, young or experienced cost us the game. End of. Made two horrendous decisions and paid for them.
Team game where key roles did not meet the standard.

I was gutted last night but I’m really looking forward to next season now. We’re probably only 3 good players away from competing in the league. Maybe 4-5 as think Ngwenya and mullan will leave.
Where we fell down was on squad depth and in particular in the final 3rd. Thistle brought on watt who made a real difference up there through experience and knowledge, changed the game. We didn’t have any quality on the bench to impact the game.
Best midfield pairing we’ve had for year, just hope we can keep them both. Solid at the back and Kearney looks much improved to how he started the season. Fraser really came onto a game and has looked more assured every week.
Kane has been great and leads the line so well, unfortunately when you take him off after 60 minutes you also remove 99% of our goal threat and the ability to hold the ball up. Morrisons workrate was vital for the way we set up in these games and took his goal well on Tues but he’s just not quite clinical enough and his final cross is generally poor, good championship player but not one who helps gets you out of this league. Andy Tod remains somewhat of an enigma is prob best I word I can think of for him, you don’t know what level of performance you’ll get from 1 minute to another. I know we didn’t have rudden which doesn’t help. Fyfe is young but he was always going to struggle to make any impact in these games.
Plenty to be optimistic about though, sure Lennon will work with Andy Tod to toughen him up and get him more involved in games and I think he’ll sign a new right winger and main striker in the summer. I’d like another experienced number 10 too.
I suspect everyone else who is out of contract leaves now, if we want a tilt at the league next season we need to go again with better squad with a touch more experience and quality.

A few games too far. We have a number of players out long term injured, Thomas, Rudden, Turley and the number of games caught up with us.
We matched Partick over the two legs and encouraging that the majority of the starting eleven will be here next season. Mullen and Ngenwa I think will almost definitely be away, but with John Tod and Abdulai then we still have some quality at CB and I would expect we’ll sign another 2-3.
Matty Todd and Chris Hamilton I’m undecided on. Would be happy for them both to get a new contract but would be as squad players. Mehmet, Tash, Bene, Otoo, KRH I expect will be away, add in the loans going back -Turley. Ox, Thomas means we could be looking at 10 new players if we replace the same number. With the cup run, you’d like to think we can pay a little more and hopefully get a bit of quality.
Add in that the young team we have will benefit from the close season and having the experience they have from this season then we have every right to be optimistic for next season.

We need a striker, an attacking midfielder, a goalkeeper and probably a winger for me.
We need more depth I agree but that wasn’t the reason why we lost last night, had that game under control bar the two absolute howlers.
We also need a new GK coach.

Absolutely raymie, as much as I think Todd has improved this season he might be let go as we need to free up wages to bring better in. We’ve already given longer contracts to the likes of cooper which worries me.
We were 15 points behind Partick this season, our points tally wouldn’t have even got us the playoffs last season so plenty improvement needed to be up there challenging.

I think there are a number of factors that ended our promotion journey that didn`t start last night. These included a heavy schedule, injuries, individual errors all over the pitch in both games and the upcoming cup final. Last night PT were simply the better side. Speaking honestly and in the interests of transparency, some of our weaknesses were exposed over the playoff games against PT. These will need to addressed next season if we want to push on. Last nights performance perhaps highlighted to me we are not ready for promotion. Thats not a crtiticism its just reality. The players are young, the position and situation we are in is new to them, so its all caluable experience for their future ambitions. It was evident to me the players were physically and mentally tired. A well deserved week off will hopefully deal with that. There should be no need to lift their spirits for Saturday. The league season is gone, the cup final will be the biggest game they have or will possibly play in over their careers. With that in mind they just need to go on the park and come off it regretting nothing. Audentes Fortuna iuvat should be our motto.

Geordie, there’s no point keeping the likes of Hamilton as a squad player if he’s not good enough, imagine Gilmour wasn’t fit yesterday, look at the drop off to put Hamilton in. You’d stick Abdulai in ahead of him too.
I know Todd and Hamilton are big pars fans but we need better even for squad players.

Think you’re doing both Matty and Hamilton a disservice. Matty is very versatile and very capable of doing a job. Same as Chris Hamilton, don’t think there is anywhere near the drop in quality you refer to.
With regards to your point about being 15 points behind Partick, yes we were. However most of that was from the first half of the season. In the second half of the season I think we scored just about as many points as any team bar St Johnstone, including Partick.

Hypothesising here but:
Benedictus
Cooper
Hamilton
Oakley-Boothe
Mehmet
Surplus to requirements.
Olly Thomas
Turley
Oxborough
Carey
Lose them from loan spells.
Mullen
Ngwenya
Some transfer interest - at risk of going
Rudden back next season, I’d like to see how Connor Young gets on with another year with EK.
Lot of room for improving the squad with the right investment.

I`d be surprised if Cooper is released with two years of his contract to go. I think NL is a fan of TOB and injuries have hampered him this season. The player himself may want to move on though.

If we need two new midfielders and have a budget of say £4K (number/names are purely hypothetical).
We could sign two players for £2k each, probably both be decent. Or we could sign one for £3k and one for £1k. The £3k player should be better quality/more experienced. If you have a £1k player who is dependable and can do a job when needed, then personally that is the better option. We don’t know what the players out of contract are on/their agents are asking for a new contract but in my hypothetical world Chris Hamilton is the £1k option in midfield and Matty Todd the £1k ‘utility’ option.
I believe we have a very good nucleus for next season, need some quality additions in key areas and fully expect Lennon and the club to sign the players we need for a title challenge next season.

I dont think we came up short, different periods different team were better overall it was about equal, other than two fortunate goals they were not going to score. However we still lack depth up front, kanes superb, but a one man band, Todd sometime brilliant others absent, morrison runs lots, but when in front of goal in a breakout has no composure. But still a year ago we would be delighted with progress. Now we are a credible team with credible manager and future we may attract some better players. Well done all and good luck for next week.

I think its a bit too early to speculate about players given the cup final next week. No doubt each player will reflect on their contribution over the season and the direction the club is seeking to go. Some will want to stay, some will want to go, some the club will be keen to keep, some may need to move on. For players who the club wants to keep and associated negotiations with agents, they will have to reflect on the opportunities that may come next season with hopefully a push for automatic promotion and the opportunity to play in the premiership. Its a successful season under the belt for younger players both mentally and physically, that the need to build on next year.

We need quality and depth. That said, losing Rudden, Thomas and Turley with no option other than replacing them with kids not even old enough to have the sponsor on the kit is a concern.
I think we’ll lose Mullen and Ngwenya as well. We’ll probably release most of the players who are out of contract and rebuild from there.
We need to improve the goalkeeper position because Terrell isn’t good enough. That’s not just based on last night, but also on the fact we went out and signed another keeper after both Terrell and Mehmet sold the jersey.
Our midfield is strong, but we’re light on cover. We also need more attacking options who can create chances. Cooper is too inconsistent, you never know which version of him you’re going to get. We can’t rely solely on Kane, and when he comes off, we’re turning to a 19 year old who blossomed this season but has struggled since Barney left.
Overall, we’ve got a good base, but we need to strengthen in key areas if we want to be competing next season.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Out of those missing other than OX, I think Thomas is the biggest miss as we are very poor in the final 3rd with limited options on how to play and our players getting ragged around by seasoned pros.
Thomas gave us pace and power, no one else can offer this.

I agree with alot of what you say. I would agree Cooper has been inconsistent this season and will need to raise his game next season. Given promotion won`t happen this season, players may well look at other options for their future. Thats their decision at the end of the day. They may decide to move on for a variety of reasons, money, opportunity etc. Its about what is being built at EEP that matters to me personally. Some players may choose not to take that journey, then I wish them well. I see automatic promotion for us next season as a real possibility given the hard work of turning the club around in one season has been completed. Its about building on that for next season.

I’d agree it’s not all on Terrell. Why on earth, after the swing at fresh air ( and even after the equaliser) did we still decide to pass him the ball?
Fraser doesn’t look like the same player in the playoffs, probably due to the volume of games he’s had to play.
Last night highlighted the lack of depth and experience in our team. That being said, we have a cup final to look forward to and a good base to build on in the summer.

Sacktheref I would say Lennon didn’t help us as after 60 minutes he decided the cup final was more important and swapped Kane for cooper.
Our chances of winning dramatically dropped after that and we then had nothing decent upfront when we really needed it.
