TARTAN ARMY — TODAY OF ALL DAYS ⚔️🏴
Today is the 24th of June. 712 years ago on this very date, Robert the Bruce and a band of outnumbered, battle-hardened Scots stood on the fields of Bannockburn and did the unthinkable. They looked a vastly superior English army in the eye — and they sent them homeward tae think again.
They didn’t win because the odds were in their favour. They won because of something no army could match — the unbreakable spirit of Scotland.
That spirit didn’t die on those fields. It lives on. Tonight, it plays football.
And here’s the thing that sends a shiver down the spine — tonight, at that stadium, the oldest football in the world will be present. Over 500 years old, discovered right there in Stirling Castle — the very heartland of Bannockburn — that wee leather ball has seen more Scottish history than any of us can imagine. Tonight it presides over our boys again.
Scotland vs Brazil. The World Cup. And all we need — a win, a draw, whatever it takes — to make history. To go through for the first time. Ever.
Bruce didn’t need a perfect plan. He needed heart, courage, and every man standing as one.
Scotland our national team and the Tartan Army — that’s you tonight. Every fan in that stadium, every soul watching from a pub in Paisley, a living room in Lerwick, a bar in Sydney or Boston or Dubai wearing the navy blue — you are the army.
Your ancestors didn’t just hand you a nation. They handed you this moment.
