In general they do?
The discussion is about when he`s required to start, for whatever reason and he comes up a little short, it`s a squad game, no?

Much better performance overall, still a bit easy to get at our defence but we`ll improve I`m sure as chemistry builds and we bring in further additions. Could`ve been several more goals if we`d been more clinical but some well taken finishes all the same

I enjoyed that, more entertaining than I thought it would be- Dumbarton tried to make a game of it.
New guys were all good, and improved as the game went on, thought Kearney had a good game, he lacks a bit of confidence, but he played really well,candy his positioning was good.
Amade glad to see him commanding his position.
Also the crowd was better than I expected.

I think it’s a mentality/confidence issue? I played with a guy who was superb in training all week but then didn’t perform on a Saturday. I would say I was the opposite. Poor in training, but would step up for a game.
If he can impact a game from the bench, and be happy to, then that’s a good option for the manager.

Although it was a good result tonight my feeling is the same as Saturday and we need good recruitment.
Decent central defenders, Some kind of variation in midfield someone who is happy to take a shot on goal and also get into the box.
Some players with creativity.
I think up front our strikers will score with decent service.

Not long back, if it wasn’t for some outstanding Goalkeeping and ooor finishing, that could have been an 7-8 goals thriller for us, fair play to young Aidan Rice in the Dumbarton goal, it will be interesting to see how he develops over the season.
Anyway, yeah, second time I have seen us this season (Clyde being the other time) and again Corbally was a standout, looks like an exciting player.
In general, I thought we were shakey for the opening 10 minutes or so but once we settled, we played some excellent stuff. The link up play throughout the side was excellent at times and I thought we looked really exciting. I’m not getting carried away playing like that against a side in League 2, but if we can take this into the season, we’ll do well.
I thought Andy Tod looked better in the CAM position than he does out left and on the ball, both Robinson & Cleall-Harding looked very comfortable and liked to charge forward like JCM & Ngwenya last season.
Lots of positives tonight and plenty to get excited about, that’s more like it. Really disappointing crowd, think it’s the lowest I’ve ever seen at EEP from memory, and I’m guessing next Tuesday will be similar.

Started very sluggish and open to attacks with many stray balls going awry but gradually we found out rhythm and pegged Dumbarton back for the remainder of the first half.
Needed a wake up call second half unfortunately which led to their goal before taking control again.
It was shooty in practice for an hour of the game and was impressed with Andrew Tod more than anyone.
Cooper deserves more game time as his positional play is excellent.
Amade again showing his quality in midfield.
7/10 tonight but we still look vulnerable to counter attacks.

Really poor start to the match and then had a really poor spell after we switched formation. Defending for their goal was woeful.
That aside thought we played pretty well. Like Corbally and Robinson. Ridden should have had four. Have to give keeper credit for the first two saves but third chance was so bad it was funny. Good movement, control and finish from Shaw but still expect a lot more than what I’ve seen.
Kearney for in a lot of good positions but always took the safe option. Big congrats to Fraser who likes to run at the defence and deliver crosses.
Any word on why Gilmour was missing?

Decent result and good to get some goals on the board.
You can only beat what’s in front of you but not sure we can take too much from that game in terms of how we’ll do against other championship teams, still hopefully some new players in before the next game in a weeks time.

I thought we played well. We moved the ball around, sometimes too well. Alfons and Kian looked good together in the middle of the park. Kian looks like a player with vision. If he is making a transition from part time football there was no sign of it, only signs of better things to come. We scored 4 but it coukd have been 6 or 7 if Zack Rudden took his chances.
New keeper looks like he needs a bit of conditioning. As my mate said, modern keepers need to play as sweepers so he needs to do a bit of work in training yet.
Olly Shaw took his goal well as did Josh Cooper. Alfons looks like he is in good shape and played well. Big year for Josh, he knows where the goals are so hopefully he can be more consistent.
Good performance all around.

Really good quality in the goals last night, and we created so many chances. I think Rudden came in for some unfair criticism. Their keeper made two good saves from his efforts, and the positive is that he`s getting into the right scoring positions.
Shaw looks like a great signing, and I`m glad he got off the mark early. It was a poor goal to concede again, though, and that`s something we need to eliminate.
All in all, it was a good night. Three points, the goal difference somewhat restored, more minutes in the legs, and confidence will continue to grow. You couldn`t have asked for much better.

could have done with a bigger winning margin to keep up the slim chance of either winning the group or getting a best runners up spot, a few more surprise results in other games last night and maybe to come this weekend could help though.
was happy to see when it was a 3 that Harding was in the middle with Tod on the right and you could see in bits what Robinson will give on the left, Corbally neat and tidy but is going to have to use his right foot more than just standing on it, know what you`ll get from Shaw although not sure yet if Rudden is the right partner.

Alot of good movement last night even in the fimal 3rd. I thought Kian was always looking for the pass or to drive forward. Zack Rudden was unfortunate and could have had at least two. But as mentioned above its good to see him getting into those positions in the box.

Not really fussy about the league cup or the Scottish
Cup this season. As long as we are good and ready
for this seasons league campaign. Promotion has to be
our main priority. Let`s get into top form for our 1st
League game at Inverness.

Thought the same, especially playing in the CAM role, being more central seemed to give him the freedoms to just go and express himself.

I think if we hadn’t won that well, I’d be starting to get a bit concerned, but we did, comfortably. Perhaps the Cup Final hangover is lifting.
The 3-4-1-2 with John Tod at RCB looked a lot more secure. Dumbarton were no great shakes – they gave us much more time on the ball, and if you let better players have the ball and time they will punish you. The annoying thing is we should have scored 2 or 3 more goals. Rudden in particular scorned a good number of chances. Of course, if he scores the first, we don’t get the corner where he misses his second good chance and so on.
Also annoying was the way we conceded after moving to a flat back four. I hope we don’t develop an allergy to formation changes like we were vulnerable to kick-offs.
Andy Tod likes to hit it early, and try the ambitious which might infuriate some coaches – he fluffed one at the Bumblebee (is this the most ridiculous stadium name in Scottish Football?) but he got his reward with his second goal which looked like a goalkeeping error at first glance, but I think was just a perfectly hit shot. He does looks much more effective in a central role albeit he is difficult to pin down.
Cooper is usually good for a goal – I think the one he scored was the hardest of his chances – he didn’t seem that bothered about scoring – but none of them did particularly – it seemed like business as usual. He seems to be more of an impact player at present which is fine for now – it’s a 16 player game these days.
Shaw will be pleased to get off the mark – no Watson/O’Boyle/Petrie issues there. I think it’s taken him a couple of games to settle, but I like what I’ve seen so far. Definitely much more reminiscent of Greg, rather than George. Or indeed Graham. (This shouldn’t be a surprise).
The other newbies also acquitted themselves better. Amade looks class but it’s not happening for Morrison so far.
Finally, the pricing was competitive. Well done.

Corstorpar, I had the same problem with highlights until Indiapar put me right. If you go to COWS you`ll see a link to DAFCLive at the top of the screen. This includes highlights but you`ll have to register to get access.

they hadnt changed the system at that point MT, Morrison was meant to be a wing back, Kearney right of the back 3, John Tod moved to the left. didnt take them long after that goal though to change it to a 4 though, maybe realising it wasnt the best of moves.

Luke Robinson the left CB was replaced by Callumn Morrison in the 58th minute that was surely the cue to moving to a back 4.
Dumbarton scored in the 60th minute.

Yeah Westies we went to 4 back after being in complete control of the game for the 58 mins up to that point and genuinely fell apart I would be very surprised if we see much of the 4 back after seeing the game against East Kilbride and then when we went to a 4 against Dumbarton Jon Tod looked like his old self up to that point as well playing brilliantly but as soon as we went to a 4 the ball over the top killed us again

I think that JT let the ball just go over his head a couple of times. Thats fine if you have the pace to follow the ball and beat their forward to the ball. Hopefully its something he will work on and will come with more game time.
