 ENG 1-2 ARG FT
Topic Originator: Stanza
Date:   Wed 15 Jul 20:58

What a horrible, horrible match.

Not a scrap of sportsmanship by the fans beforehand (booing both national anthems) or by any of the players on the field, deliberately fouling to stop any player getting past them, then complaining to the ref. Hardly any shots at goal, and none on target.

Folk like Micah Richards & co saying how wonderful it is to see such passion and commitment. Sad and disappointing.

¡Vamos España!

Simeone is even more unlikeable than his dad.

Hoping 2nd half is better and England edge it.

Spot on, Stanza. Anti football and a total disgrace considering the number of talented players on the pitch. They`ve obviously been instructed to scrap for everything and stop their opponents at any cost. I`ll be surprised if it finishes 11 v 11 although the ref has been very lenient.
If only both teams could lose....

I`d rather share an island with the English than the Argentinians.

I hope England win.

Agreed BP. Argies are just cynical both on and off the pitch. They have form. They’ve hyped this whole game up politically even before the ko.
Normally not supporting England but I am tonight.
Hope they stuff them.

To be fair, the second half so far has been far better.

Superb goal for England, and from.now on it will be backs to the wall stuff. I can`t see them holding out, but I thought that against Mexico too!

Argentina have been quite impressive since they fell behind; three decent free headers they`ve created.

If you want to bring politics into it - England or Argentina? Thats a tough call!

Why do Argentina wait until they`re behind until they actually start to play the game called football?

England now have to un-park the bus, won`t be easy with all their defenders! Kane got a nose bleed when he reached the halfway line!

Shame that they only came out and played after the goal, had they played like that earlier, could have pumped them.

No joy here - just relief that England haven’t won it

Agent Tuchel has done well there.

England were definitely in danger of winning, until he started making defensive subs.

Argentina looked really good last third of game.

Hope they go on and win it TBH - never really been that taken with Spain, although they did make France look very ordinary so hopefully a good match

to get the semi final. The 1st top 10 team they have
played. Argentina are a great team, England are not

Can`t afford to park the bus for that long against a team of that quality.

Some of Messi`s passing is absolutely unbelievable, like watching a slightly worse Alfons Amade... 🤣

They’ve squeezed through the last couple of games, but when push came to shove, they’re their own worst enemy. Going that negative as soon as they had the edge was madness. Surely Tuchel’s already out on his ear after serving that garbage up.

That`s why they brought Tuchel in. To get them over the line in the big games.

And although my eyes were open

Yes, you cannot play that deep against a team of that quality,it’s asking for disaster. They were playing ok,but blew it,they seemed to panic.

The final result probably clouded my judgement but I loved that game. Proper theatre. Everyone will say England shat the bed but Argentina made the changes to try and win the game and it was fantastic watching them absolutely batter England into submission.

Glorious stuff.

Within 5 mins of FT the pundits had turned on Tuchel and each other, fantastic viewing. Hopefully the Auld Alliance will pump them into 4th place as well.

Cracking second half; England lost their composure when put under intense pressure and played deeper and deeper with no `out ball`.

I`ve got to admit, I`m glad england got what they deserved, brutal, defensive football. Didn`t deserve to get anything out of the match. Aside from some flashes of fortune by Bellingham and Kane they have been rubbish at this World Cup, had the easiest group to get out of, managed to get past an aging Croatia side after a bad first half, struggled against Ghana, should have been sent home by DR Congo, scraped past Mexico and were extremely lucky against Norway. Tuchel probably did all he could to get them this far, he had to get that 6 man defence and get Harry Kane playing as a defensive midfielder to hopefully manage to fluke something else out of the tournament. Glad to see Argentina show their class, a proper footballing nation. Also good to see the Argentinians with their "Las Malvinas son Argentinas" banners at the end of the game. Hopefully after booting the english out of the World Cup they can now boot them off Las Malvinas too.
