Good performance and could easily have been seven or eight.
Was impressed with SCH although I am sure he will have tougher tests.
Also impressed by Corbally. Never noticed Robinson much.
Best performance tonight was the ref. She was spot on. Let the game flow and hardly noticed her at all for long spells which is always the sign of a good ref.
Be interesting to see how we perform against St Mirren.
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

In the world cup a win and a draw from three matches is enough to see you through. One win might, although unlikely, also be enough.
In this format I think you could go out having won three out of four....
On to tonights game, a good scoreline that helped turn around our goal difference. Some really nice passages of play, particularly the first half, that could have seen us win by much more.
First of me seeing any of the new signings and I thought Corbally in particular was excellent. His passing was really accurate and quick, like he already knew where the ball was going next when he received it. He barely has to look. I look forward to seeing how he progresses this season.
Could still do with a few signings in certain areas and I`m not convinced about the shape. Sunday should be really interesting.

Impressive performance first half. We looked really hungry for the ball and only frantic defending prevented it being 6-0 at the break.
We struggled after the break to get that same momentum however although Cove upped their game to be fair.
The subs made an impact and Cove struggled to contain us.
Kane yet again showed his quality and a proper football brain who sees runs.
Great to see big Ox back in goals who didn’t have much to do but had that ever present calming influence.
Will take a monumental effort on Sunday to win by 3 goals to guarantee going through but we will know before then what we need at least so just go for it.

Good performance last night. If Rudden had taken his chances he could have had 3 or 4. Movement is so much better with Corbally and Shaw, and Andy Tod looks sharp. Defensively solid and getting better. Another clean sheet. Coukd have been 8 or 9 goals, but for Rudden`s misses and keepers saves. Corbally`s through ball for one of the goals was excellent.

Corbally`s the sort of midfielder we`ve been missing - tidy on the ball and looking to make a pass but prepared to get stuck in when required; exquisite pass for Tod`s second goal.
Cleall-Harding and Robinson looked solid but bigger tests to come and Oxborough exuded the confidence it`s hard to get with a younger keeper.
I heard from a good source that we had agreed a permanent deal with Bristol City to bring Olly Thomas to EEP but the player didn`t want to come. Lots of deals mooted but it`s hard to get them over the line.

Felt for Rudden last night. He was getting into all the right positions, but I think he ended up trying too hard when the chances came. That`s what happens when a striker is desperate for goals.
Personally, I`d have given him the penalty. If he scores it, it could`ve done wonders for his confidence and taken a bit of the pressure off him. Sometimes all a striker needs is that one goal to kick on.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Really enjoyable performance, some of the football in the first half was outstanding. Think Shaw has definitely added to the strike force and seems to link up well with Tod and Rudden, some great layoffs and clearly has ability in front of goal. On Rudden, I agree he`s trying a bit too hard, he had a couple of decent chances that I think he just went to hit too hard rather than composing himself.
Corbally has impressed me from when I first saw him and certainly keeps things ticking over in midfield similar to Amade with their passing ability. Certainly need depth in the middle of the park though, it`s really them and Gilmour at the moment.
Defence was essentially untested and it helps having Oxborough who is just a calming presence at the back. Cleall-Harding and Robinson seem to be getting a bit more of a connection with the rest of the team. Think we`ve lost a bit of pace without JCM or Ngwenya but that was always going to be tough to replace.

Personally I think Cleal Harding has more pace than JCM. Both he and KN benefited from the pace at the back with Nuru. J Tod is tall and rangy so perhaps lacks that bit of pace over 10-15 yards to get going. That is something that can be developed over time with coaching so there is alot of potential there in my view. You can only play as well as the other team lets you and I think our pace, passing, movement and pressing shut down any threat from Cove. But for some good saves and ZR`s opportunities it could have been 7 or 8 nil. A really good performance.

True but in the old format that first game would have been in August. So preseason was finished, league games would have been played, players would be fitter and squads would be a little more settled.
I`ve not looked at the previous years but it wouldn`t surprise me if there were more freak results in those early rounds of games.

If that’s true re Thomas then that’s a pity because his strength and pace would have caused most teams problems. His performance against Aberdeen will live long in my memory.
Would have been a good opportunity for him to put himself in the shop window like Barney Stewart. Maybe he fancies his chances of regular game time at Bristol City , who knows ?
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Yeah, Corbally looks a good find so far. The assist for Tod`s second was a lovely ball. Having that sort of incisive passing in the team is great, particularly if we continue to play with Tod, Shaw and Rudden/Kane in and around the box. Looking like we have a few good attacking options.
Agreed that it`s hard to judge the defence from last night. A clean sheet is always a good result, but Cove didn`t really offer much of a threat at all.

a Bristol City fan posted on twitter a couple of times weeks ago saying Thomas was coming back until there was "regime change" down there, whether that was new manager being appointed or that Brian Tinnion was retiring from his role at the club who was the link with John Colquhoun.

its the closest in comparison so far with Amade and gives a bit extra balance in there being a natural left footer, not getting carried away with the performances so far thats for sure.
a couple more goals over the two home games would have been handy going into the weekend in terms of trying to win the group, might still be a chance of a best runners up spot though.

Obviously the defence was pretty tight, but I thought we got the ball forwards from defence much faster than last season. We all loved JCM, but he did tend to hang on to the ball quite a lot. All three at the back last night looked like they were comfortable to find an early pass.
Completely unrelated, but I thought the ref was excellent. None of the usual posturing that a lot of the male refs indulge in. Quietly effective and got almost all of the calls right. I think she slightly favoured us, but also could have given a second yellow for the blatant hand ball in the second half. She probably felt a bit sorry for Cove by that point.

Josh Cooper is a very good striker of the ball, sk hopefully if he can improve his consistency this season we will see more of that. Shea Kearney had a very good game but sometimes some of his crosses just let him down a little bit. With the better movement we have up front now, hopefully he can pick the strikers out. We kept Cove very quiet and that is testimony to the team performance.

Well, I was disappointed there was no half-time show.
The football was fine – a traditional bashing of a lower division side. We could have had more as ever, but five isn’t bad. A great first goal from Tod and a good second, A terrible spot-kick from Shaw and he was lucky the rebound fell for him, but dispatched with composure. Cooper got his usual goal, but again Rudden missed a gilt-edged chance as did Morrison.
There was an argument in favour of giving Rudden the penalty, but I think that can be a bit artificial and disrespectful. If Shaw is on pens, he takes them. Rudden will get his goal soon enough if he’s patient. Having two goalscorers on form and scoring is great – who do you try to keep quiet if you are facing them?
We stuck more rigidly to our usual formation even with the subs, although there was a little bit of rotation of the front three. A little run-out for Kane and Gilmour. Macleod seems to be being developed as a LWB.
Was there a yellow card shown? Was it to Amade? It’s unlikely to be an issue unless we qualify.

Amade`s one came from a bad foul in the middle of the park, it was given after the ref had played advantage to Cove as they were attacking.

Amade was shown a YC early in the second half for a foul near the halfway line. The ref played advantage but when played stopped she showed him the card and called the physio on as the Cove player was still down. The Cove no 5 was also booked later in the second half.

Felt a little bad for the Cove player who was injured by Amade. He only came on at HT, and had to go off not much later. Looked accidental - but obviously bad enough for the ref to book him after play had stopped.
Wouldn`t mind seeing the ref get more of our games this season - much better than the usual dross we`ve been getting!

There`s quite a bit about the ref, Abbie Hendry, on the internet. I think the SFA are using her pathway to encourage other women to take up refereeing. She became a ref because her mum was one and because it paid more than serving coffee! She seems to co-own a gym (possibly with her mum?) which must help with her fitness. She certainly had no problem keeping up with play last night.
At one point she was being mentored by Nick Walsh and she is now FIFA approved and has done women`s Champions League games. She seems an unflappable character and not prone to the officious behaviour we see from some male refs.

Absolutely, I`m not knocking his performance at all. Last night, he did everything right apart from getting on the scoresheet. I said it after the Dumbarton game: at least he`s getting into those good positions, and goals come to players like that. I hope he gets off the mark soon, as I believe he can be a great asset to this team.

By the sounds of it Corbally is the player that Tash should have been. Good and bad if the Olly news is true. Bad that he isn`t coming but good that there is scope to bring in yet another forward.
I agree about this format. Clubs going out with so many points just doesn`t sit right. It asks for pretty much a perfect run. They could easily add one more round to the cup. It would only be one more game and would allow more clubs to qualify. "Too many games moan whine etc", it would just be one more.
Pars fan.
Magpies fan.
Mens tennis fan.
Alternative rock fan.
Not a fan of much else.

Given the numbers it`s a bit more complicated than at first glance
The first knockout round is 16 teams, so you`d have to double it to 32.
-4? for the Euro participants places.
So you`d need 28 teams qualifying out 8 groups, which seems sketchy.
Add more non SPFL teams? Seems OK, but you need 16 to make the home/away fixtures even so we`d be up to 6 games per team from the group stage.
I`m sure there is a solution to all this, but not quite as simple as chucking in another round.

Surely the highlights and post match interviews are "free videos" so why are we still being forced to sign in??

Maybe Zack Rudden just needs to release his inner psychopath when in front of goal,.I think Morrison the same. They are maybe just snatching at chances a bit. A bit of concentration on the ball will bring goals. That is something cooper does very well - he seems to focus alot on striking the ball cleanly even if its that extra 1/2 second.

When Morrison was through on goal, I had absolutely no confidence that he would score. He really needs to up his game.
