100% this. The boy is seriously talented. Fans on here willing to pigeon hole him are quite arrogant to presume a guy as young as him is happy to be an impact sub. Especially when he`s watching some get 90 minutes.

Any of the three of them. He offered more than all three today and has looked good for the most part when he’s come on so far this season.

Cooper is very direct and takes his man on but agree with the comments, he’s a bit lightweight on the ball so makes sense he has more impact against a tiring opposition.
Allan is the man we’ve been calling out for, he’ll walk into this team once up to speed.

Cooper is lightweight on the ball and Tod is worse, but both too easily eased of it.
We’re playing Tod knowing he’s do nothing for 88 minutes but the hope is he’ll score in the other 2 minutes. We might need more than that to improve on last season.

I agree Crosspar, Josh Cooper is one of very few in the team who shows football intelligence, surely Lennon and the other coaches see that.
It amazes me that when it is so obvious, like yesterday, that the chosen team is not performing that he only gets the regulation 10-15 minutes at the end.
Even if they make changes at halftime it would give the subs time to settle and make a difference.
It was obvious yesterday that Brian Graham was allowed to run the whole show aided by an incompetent referee, we needed that bit extra speed and football brain.

Last couple of games he has come on around 60 minutes so NL giving him more game time recently He has changed the game every time he has come on and brings a creativity, unpredictability and skill others don’t have. He creates chances, scores goals and takes nice corners and looks to attack. From that very first time he came on as a sub away at Hamilton for me he has stood out.

In fairness to Cooper, when he has started in the past, he was sometimes in a position or part of a system that didn`t suit his game as well. When he comes on as a sub, the game has often opened up or the system has been changed, allowing him a bit more space.
I really would like to see Cooper and Bray get more game time.

We have the headless chicken Zak playing week in week out.
Morrison, who’s way overrated by lots of people, and he’s on the bench every week despite him being one of the most intelligent players positionally we have available and fit!
He deserves a few starts in the team with Tod and Kane.

Great goal last night and he’s got that in his locker.
What I will say and you saw the same last night for Tod, it’s completely different when you come on a sub against tiring legs and the game is more stretched you get more opportunities and space. Espechailly agaisnt a Raith defence who had to play a centre back only a couple of hours in the door for most of the game.
It’s a hard one, he’s certain a better option than rudden or Morrison but doesn’t really play in the same position.

Bertie next you’ll be saying that ox should have made 3 outstanding saves instead of the 2
Cooper is not had a proper start in the ‘first team’ since well before the end of the season even when we were resting players near the end of the season and he got starts with the kids playing I thought he was always the best player on the park especially in that game against Airdrie the thing that goes against him is that the formation is set in a way that if he starts he needs to be played as a winger and that’s not his game as you can see that when he comes on now he just floats about in the spaces that we create now and it’s working perfectly for him

I agree, I think that we need players who can score from the edge of the box and be a bit more direct. Pushing the ball out wide isn`t enough sometimes. Width is great but you need good quality balls into the box. The 6 yard box is so crowded these days its difficult to score inside that area. These is more space and opportunity in the general box area and the edge of the box. Cooper is such a good striker of the ball that with a little bit of space he can produce something either a goal of a save from the keeper that the strikers can follow up on.

He`s never been used as a wide forward, so presumably he`s no good there, possibly on the left cutting in like Andy Tod does. So that kinds of limits his chance given we have so many centre forwards. Not sure he could be used a right winger/forward but maybe deserves a chance there ahead of Morrison.
And if Zak Rudden can play on the left...
As others have eluded to above, not sure starting him and Andy Tod against Raith, or many of the other physical teams in this league will work too well - just not enough physicality.

Morrison does better hugging the touch line while cooper is better just off/in behind the front line.

Josh Cooper is such a good striker of the ball and in his post match interview he says he practices those in training. One of our weaknesses is failing to get goals from set pieces and corners so we are going to be reliant on goals from shots in the wider box area and from the edge of the box. Its Josh Coopers strength and Andy Todds. Being more direct in games may yield results as going wide and turning back doesn`t achieve the intent of getting behind defenders and more often than not we lose the ball. There seems to me to be little benefit in expending that energy to get up the park to fail to produce an attempt on goal.

I think we are comparing him to the wrong player. I think it’s to easy to look at Morrison and think he’s not doing as much as others so I’d play Cooper instead of him but Morrison and Cooper to me are doing very different jobs.
Morrison has played best hugging the touchline and giving us width. That’s not something I see cooper doing. I’m not against starting Cooper in front of Morrison I just think we’d be asking them to do different jobs and the question should be -who’d be more effective against that opposition rather than who’s playing better football.

I agree NMC but at the moment cooper can quite easily do what Morrison is doing 9 times out of 10….ie take a touch then pass it back.
The difference with cooper is he’s far more likely to stick away the chance Morrison missed on Friday and I’d wager he’d have more quality to his crosses.

Yeah but we’re still talking about someone doing a different job to someone else.
Maybe it was because it was away and less have seen it but Cooper came on for Morrison at Livi and we looked a lot less likely to score for it. Cooper isn’t as quick and he kept turning inside and offered nothing. Morrison stayed wide and kept them stretched, got balls in the box.
I’m not having a go at Cooper, I’m simply saying it’s got to be horses for courses.

No thanks I`m vegetarian. 😉
But I agree with you NMC that Morrison does a different job. I don`t think of Josh as a winger, I think of him as what we called in the old days an inside forward. Someone who keeps fairly close to the centre forward and can feed him or score. Have Kane and Josh been given a chance to gel as a partnership?

Call and response idea for when there`s a quiet spell in a match: (Use/change/ignore/bin as you see fit)
Who scores goals worth more than dosh - Josh!
Who makes critics eat their tosh - Josh!
Who`s got Rovers* under the cosh - Josh!
Gee um the ba` - an bish bash bosh!
*(Substitute the name of the team we`re playing.)
File that straight in B1N
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

If Cooper starts, he needs to make an impact. Most of the time, we start him after a good performance and end up subbing him due to a lack of impact.
I want someone to tell me why Morrison tried to score his chance with the outside of his boot? He was also far too passive anytime he got the ball.
I like Cooper and wouldn’t mind seeing Bray replace Morrison, with Cooper through the middle, although I can’t see this happening.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

I think it was the last League game of last season on 01/05/26 when we drew 0-0 with Arbroath prior to the two play-off games against them.

Why can`t some people accept that Cooper and Morrison are members of a squad that get utilised in one way or another according to what the manager sees fit. He scored the winner and I`m really chuffed for him but that doesn`t or shouldn`t mean he`s a definite starter v Arbroath.

13 goals in 1808 minutes by my reckoning.... so a goal every 139 minutes, or roughly about 2 goals every 3 games.

Even at Stirling he had more appearances as a sub than as a starter and his most notable scoring feat there was coming on as a sub against Kelty in the 68th minute and scoring a hat-trick.

I’m with da no 1 ( shock horror ) on this one. Not sure I would want to see him start on Saturday…….but….. if he was to come off the bench and score again then I think Lennon would have to start him next time out…….

We can’t go every game with players up top struggling to find the net and hope we’re still level by the time we bring on Cooper.
We could be 2 or 3 down and then what?
Get Kane and Cooper on from the start on Saturday as well as Tod and hope we’ve done enough by the time Kane has run out of steam.

It`s not just because he scored the winner on Friday. It`s because of the way he has performed, every time he comes on, when he has displayed game intelligence and a goal threat that others are not showing or don`t even have. People cast up that when he has started, he has not had the same affect. While that may be true, perhaps he has developed as a player and is now showing his full potential? It certainly should not debar him from starting in the future. Other players who are starting have been disappointing so perhaps they should have a spell on the bench and see if they can make a difference if they are called upon? Seemed to work for Andy Tod on Friday.

That’s the thing I would add to this crosspar is I’ve been one to criticise Andy Tod this season but on Friday no one could fault him both wingers I would say had stinker I actually thought rudden was worse than Morrison but only one of them has played for Falkirk so maybe that came into the crowd reaction. But after he subbed the 2 wingers we looked brilliant maybe it was a case of they wanted us to go down the line all the time and Tod and cooper weren’t having that

Kane, Cooper and Andrew Tod all on together would be ideal. But you gotta factor in that, anyone who starts is up against opponents on fresh legs, whereas later in the game they might have lost a bit of edge.
No doubt that`s been floated before. And NL has probably tried both ways - big guns on from the start versus keeping some for subs. He knows we need another player as a goal-threat in attack - someone to alternate with Kane.
Until we get an extra CF with similar presence and contribution that Kane makes, whoever starts up front is a gamble.

Everyone criticising Rudden?? He gave the Raith right back a physical battering right from the start and I rate the Raith lad..imagine having that battle with Rudden then he goes off and having to go up against Todd who will get the ball down and take you on? Plus knowing a fresh Cooper playing off him..
Todd needed dropped as he has not been playing well but Lennon got it right with the 2 physical lads up top as long balls we’re always played to Rudden snd he won his fair share.
I would go with the exact team if all fit against Arbroath…apart from the 2 goal scoring opportunities Raith had we were solid.
I would give Morrison a start against Arbroath and let him know he needs to shield the ball better and take players on..He is just inconsistent week in/out…maybe it’s confidence but he would be the first to be dropped.
I would deffo keep the same line up for Arbroath.

I agree Rudden contributed against RR by softening them up. He fluffed a couple of chances near goal but he still earned his place.

Josh is an elegant player. He looks the part - he cuts a dash.
As a youngster, two of my favourite players were Tony Green (Newcastle and Scotland) and Luigi Riva (Italy).
Josh has got that kind of elegance and style.
And he scores sexy goals, e.g. at Tynecastle and v RR last time out. They`re Josh specials, what they call these days, his signature goals.

If Morrison is played wide against Arbroath I think he’ll be fine, if he’s playing narrow he’ll get bullied and pushed about. I think cooper is less likely to be bullied. It would be interesting to see how the Ugandan does (really can’t remember his name) as I think he’s the most talented with the ball at his feet in the squad but away at Arbroath isn’t always about being great with a ball at your feet.
Basically I think Cooper could have a big role for us on Saturday

Rusty did nothing of the sort for you to reply in the way you did. He was merely pointing out that it would have been more respectful for the poster to find out what our player’s name was rather than where he was from. That’s not being sarcastic or insulting in any way, shape or form.
