This is resembling one of those of overload training sessions you would do with an extra attacking player to try and stretch the defending team.

Some brilliant passing triangles, reverse passes and interplay camped on the edge of their box.

Really need to turn screw and go for five or six and put down a marker as the quality is there just need someone ruthless to put them away.

Prefacing this mostly tongue in cheek comment by saying generally I’m quite impressed with the DAFC Live service, it’s a big improvement on Pars TV in my opinion. I think Stephen Mills is a good host and main commentator, doesn’t try to do too much.

However, the co-commentator today is making me really feel like I’m at East End in that you’re almost guaranteed to be sat near some old chap that shouts the same three soundbites over and over again for 90 mins:
- “Move the ball quickly.”
- “Need to defend this properly.”
- “Give nothing away here.”

Good win and can see the players getting to know each other week on week. COYP

FT 2-0. The second half was a wee bit wasteful, and we allowed QP back into it. But three points - that`s what really matters.

Excellent football first half but absolutely terrible in second half.

Welcome three points but these Jekyll and Hyde performances are very concerning.

Lennon needs to sort out the issues we seem to have in the second 45…QP were very poor FH and that probably made us look better than we really are.

As soon as they started mixing it better and pressing we just went to pot and could hardly string three passes together.

Think Tod needs dropped for more than one game tbh as he was very poor today..

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Good to get the 3 points, disappointing not to score more goals, especially in the first half. Seemed like an ideal match to improve the GD.

Still too much passing back and sideways when a forward move is open for my liking. Need to move the ball faster too at times.

Seemed to lose all shape and attacking threat after the subs came on.

Ref was poor as usual. Overly fussy.

Onwards and upwards.

It looks like the team is starting to settle down now.

Ox and the back four are picking themselves. Amada and Oyiwroth starting in the middle of midfield. Then the remaining four based on form/tactics/opposition. Cooper has to keep starting for now. Macleod almost certainly gets himself a start next week.

I`m not sure Adams and Tod hold onto their places, but both put in a lot of work off the ball. Thomas can probably do everything that Adams does.

Will Morrison ever get the jersey back?

As bad a second half as the first have was good. Very frustrating that we couldn`t continue the momentum after half time and really boost the goal difference. While QP didn`t look especially dangerous, a scrambled goal in the last 10 minutes would definitely have caused a panic! Didn`t think the subs worked, especially withdrawing Amade whose only game weakness is his unwillingness to ever have a shot at goal.

After a quiet first half, the ref came on to a right stinker. Must have been on a yellow card bonus scheme.

Job was done in the first half.

Second half we sat back a bit and kept possession. The game changed for me when Adams, Amade and Oyirwoth went off as we won nothing in the final third.

Tod definitely needs dropped again, was very poor today and looked well off it.

Macleod looked a step up fae Morrison too.

Anyone know who the lad was signing autographs at half time, short boy with dreadlocks? Assuming it’s a new loan signing?

Good first half with a well taken first goal where for once we worked it well into the feet of the striker who laid it off and the ball in was good. The 2nd goal was an absolutely howler from their keeper from a shot straight at him.

2nd half we were really poor, took foot off the gas and struggled to string many passes together and control the game. Lack of movement from Adam’s at times and thought cooper goal aside struggled to do anything in the game. We were lucky in the end not to concede as we fell to pieces at times.

We still have too many players playing the easy ball back or a first time ball back when in space to turn and we have a passenger in Tod who looks a level below the rest at the moment but I guess we’re just going to play him until he finds some form or hope a nice wee article in the press on how he’s turned the corner will get him into form . A number of times today players chose the option to pass to him rather than play a better ball which tells you they are at least trying to help him but in some respects it’s making is worse as when he’s off it his level is not championship standard.

Queens a stuffy team but Lenny should not happy with that 2nd half, this squad is capable than better then he’s getting from them.

Absolutely outstanding first half. Could easily have been 5 or 6 nothing. Disappointing second half to be honest and Lennon better acknowledge that post match.

Abdulai deserved MOM. Good to see McLeod back on the wing.

Subs were strange to say the least. We dropped off the game when Adams went off. He's mad as a balloon but the ball stuck to him first half.

A real Jekyll and Hyde performance there. Brilliant first half and pretty lacklustre second half. Our strikers really need to start shooting instead of always trying to find a pass. A 2-0 victory, albeit we’ll struggle to play against a worse team for the remainder of the season.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Absolutely brilliant first half, could have scored 4 or 5. Agree the subs killed the momentum but we were never in any danger of conceding, he could have sat 2 players down without bringing subs on and they wouldn’t have scored. Very accomplished performance!

Only criticism is trying to walk the ball in when there’s space for a shot!

Happy with that. FH excellent, best 45 mins we’ve played all season. Total control of the game & some really nice moves with lots of movement off the ball. It’s good to see them tactically mix it up, if a pass isn’t on the CHs bring the ball forward giving us more options. Some of the passing & interplay between the back 4 was a joy to watch.

The squad has some depth in it now & our bench is really strong.

….but we have to make it count, more goals please Pars.

You’ve seen the Pars now please go home!

The much heralded "click" seemed to happen in the first half...but maybe not up front. It could easily have been four or five nil at half time.

When it really does click, we`re going to give someone an absolute doing.

Next week at Morton? They seem to be struggling and we`re hitting form. (Cue the 0-0 draw)

Thought subs were really poor today did nothing to affect the game other than destroy any momentum. Really poor second half after an excellent first half.We really should be walking iff that pitch having won 4 or 5 nil yet we hardly recorded touches in the QP penalty box second half.

Great 1st half with some really good football. We should have been 4 up. We lost the initiative 2nd half as QP changed things a bit. Agree with others, our subs didn`t make the impact we would have hoped.

Well, well, well… I thought we were on the verge of giving someone a doing, and the way the first half was panning out, I thought today was going to be the day. But I’m happy with the three points regardless.

The football this side are capable of playing is up there with the best I’ve ever seen at East End, and I’ve been going since ’87. The levels some of these guys can play to is frightening, and how we’ve managed to get some of this squad is beyond me.

Despite the moaners behind me, if you can’t appreciate the football we played for long spells today, then really you should find something else to do on a Saturday.

My big criticism of Lennon last season was that, despite his relative success, I didn’t really know what type of team we were. Well, today, once again, that identity was stamped all over us. We’re a team that wants to control the ball, play through the zones and then look to get it wide in the final third and it’s fantastic to watch. When it all properly clicks, it’s going to be frightening.

There were no failures in the team today, although I didn’t think the subs really worked.

Oyirworth is going to be a star. If he and a couple of others ended up playing in the EPL one day, it genuinely wouldn’t shock me.

I think Adams still looks raw, but like Abdulai, I could watch him play all day because he just looks so happy to be out there and clearly loves it. There was a bit right in front of me where he managed to control a ball, the North Stand all went “yyeeeeaa”, then he gave it away and everyone went “aawww” and you could see him laughing away, just living life.

Rory gave us everything Callumn Morrison doesn’t and had a great game…and I could go on and on, through the whole starting 11.

Anyway…it’s getting there.

Yes, we should have scored more and made the afternoon a lot more comfortable than it was, but it’s definitely getting there.

I still remain optimistic that we’re heading for a successful season, and I genuinely can’t wait to see where some of these players’ careers end up.

How Lobban and Cleall-Harding aren’t involved at their respective clubs is beyond me.

Enjoy yur night

Great first half as everyone has stated.

2nd half we substituted with guys up front who need service from wide players - we have no wide players who can provide decent balls into the box!! Too much through the centre which was just closed down. Need to get this sorted!!

"Don`t understand the criticism of Tod. He played well today."

i wouldnt say he played well but he wasnt any worse than the other forwards used thats for sure, the level of criticism though isnt a surprise from some

comfortable first half but the usual problems in the second in the final third with too many needless touches and too many wrong decisions from the midfield and forward players, the subs and slight change of shape made sense but didnt work with those players.

some were saying it was a must win, well its a win, on to next week then

I thought Rory McLeod looked strong and has developed over the last year. Great strike for his goal. We thought generally much better today around the box. More of a willingness to shoot today. It may not always come off, but there is always the chance of a deflection, rebound from the keeper or pushed around the post for a corner. That is much better than getting into those positions and passing sideways and backwards. Its a percentages game after all. Alfons got himself in a good position today and should have taken a pop at goal.

First half really good but as other have stated we should have scored more. The first half they seemed to be relying on the long ball to Toderof but realised he was getting outjumped most of the time by our 2 centre backs and he was taken off as he was getting a bit frustrated. They played a more pressing game in the 2nd period keeping the ball more on the deck. Really dont know why Amade is so reluctant to shoot for goal as he found himself in a bit of space a few times both halves. Good result and 3 precious points in the bag, move on to next week.

Tod was no passenger today, he contribute well throughout, that`s why he lasted the 90 minutes - unlike the Ayr United game where he was awful and Lennon correctly pulled him.

There is definately better balance in the team this season. We thought that Allan Oyirwoth brings out the best in Alfons Amade in the midfield. Rory McLeod brings a threat because he is more direct and prepared to shoot. He also held the ball up well in forward positions. We hoped for more from the substitutions but it didn`t work today. . Its a squad game and it will take a squad to win the league so no doubt at times everyone will be involved. Personally I don`t quite think Olamiklan Adams is quite ready. It may require perseverence and play him. He is quite deceptive in terms of pace, works hard up front, and we tgought would benefit from getting a goal. Some of the passing in the final third second half was a bit short and didn`t come off today but maybe just one of those days. There are really visible signs of improvement across the whole squad over the last few games. Its turning the dominance into goals that is missing as others have said. Good to see today we stodd up to the corners, albeit some of the clearances were a bit of a panic.

Too many unnecessary bookings though..

I think as was said in this thread, our control of the pitch was a joy to see at times and it did look like we were going to give QP a right doing first half after we went 2-0 up.

I’ll say it again though. We are one proper quality goalscorer away from being a championship winning team as we don’t have a natural finisher other than Kane perhaps who can bury half chances away.

Abdulai and Amade were standouts today and young Rory had a great first half but perhaps stayed on longer than he should have as he was very clearly tiring second half as was Cooper who I’m pleased is continuing his good form overall with a third goal in 3 starts.

Tod perhaps needs to mix his game up a bit as he was a one trick pony at times and preferring the back pass to taking on the full back and when he did, it failed too often.

It’s 3 points.
We’re in 5th spot and hopefully give Morton a doing next week ahead of what seems like a two week break.

That being said AAPS, I`m thinking that Chris Kane has lost a yard or two of pace. He`s good at hustling his marker and usually sharp in the box, but he`s never going to outpace a defender. We did have several players today who were able to carry the ball well at pace and trouble their midfield and defence but Chris just seemed to lack any penetrating runs.

From what I saw of the first half - it was frantic and a great watch. Two wonderful goals. The shots taken by others at great speed and I’m fairly sure Jack Wills will have sore hands tonight despite his gloves!

Many thanks for the well wishes. I’ve just woken up and feeling hungry!

Yeah I’d accept that. He’s not looked his normal self even off the bench the last couple of games,

Really happy with that performance. Queen’s Park won last week and the week before went to Firhill and got a point.

First half was excellent. Abdulai was superb and my man of the match. Amade and Ayirwoth have great movement creating space and allowing us to play those little triangles. The Queens Park players were trying to man mark our midfielders which have Abdulai the opportunity to go forward with the ball into space. Great first goal and not sure what the keeper was doing for MacLeods shot. It looked like he cut across the ball so assume it moved a fair bit as the goalie looked like he simply dived out of the way of it. 2 zip at half time and could have been more.

Queens made a couple of changes at half time and pressed more, but we wee still on control of the game and felt we did fine for the first 25 minutes of the second half, even if we weren’t creating the same sort of chances. The three subs made on 70 minutes changed the game. The quality seemed to disappear and the control we had wasn’t there. Not that we ever looked like losing a goal. Queens failed to have a shot the entire match, and although they had a flurry of corners and long throws at the end we defended them well enough.

Taking Amade off on 70 made sense as he was on a yellow card. We did appear to try and change players but play the same system. The players coming on simply don’t have the same qualities. Gilmour and Corbally both have their own qualities, but they can’t control the midfield like Amade/Ayirwoth. Kane replaced Adam. Adam is quick, had bags of energy, sometimes has a decent touch but anyone who watched the warmup will see he isn’t a goalscorer. Tod wasn’t awful, but think he is ineffectual playing wide on the left. His one trick is to cut inside and shoot. He is however normally a good finisher and perhaps would like to see him switch with Adam for a few 5 minute spells. See if Adam can use that pace out wide and give Tod a chance through the middle.

Anyway 3 points, clean sheet and hopefully the same next week

It was one year ago when we beat Arbroath 5-0 with Andy Tod scoring a hattrick, and a goal each from Rory Macleod and Zak Rudden.

The first half was one of the most enjoyable halves of football I have seen the Pars play in recent years. It was total domination. I`m not sure what happened in the second half, but we lost our thread. Incredibly, we had 14 shots while Queen`s Park had none. Yet in those last ten minutes, I lost count of how many corners Queens had. We seemed to hardly get out of our box.

Following a suspicion I had, I checked the stats of all our games so far this season, and yes, we have dominated possession in every single game. Yet, we only won two, lost one, and drew the rest.

It makes for interesting reading. For the stats confirm that we play decent football, and are getting plenty shots away—for instance, against Arbroath we had 15 shots to Arbroath`s one. and we were playing away from home. Here`s the base possession stats of all our games so far:-

Inverness 0-0 59%-41%
Ayr 1-1 64%-36%
Livi 0-2. 54%-46%
Rovers 1-0. 51%-49%
Arbroath 1-1 64%-36%
Queens 2-0. 59%-41%

Converting more of those shots to goals will determine where we go from here. I hope Olly Thomas proves to be the solution to our current problem. Time will tell. On the face of it, I think we have a team that can win this league.

I`m genuinely still bewildered at Kane passing it to the Arbroath defender when he was seven yards from goal. If you had asked him before the game where he would want the chance to fall to him, he probably would have picked there. Our strikers need goals and the confidence that comes with them, so why he decided to pass is alarming.

Good to see Rory taking his chance and Cooper scoring again. He is keeping us in the race at the minute. Our strikers need to find some kind of scoring form, and fast.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Kane had another great chance to get a shot off yesterday when through and opted to try and pass it to Tod instead!

The Kane of old would have at least got a shot away and most likely scored that.

I think the Queens fans must be questioning why they started Todorov over Jack Hamilton. He definitely made a difference as Todorov must be one of the most stupid strikers in our league. Hamilton, whilst not scoring actually contributes.

The stats are a bit messy Oz, unfortunately.

I think your stats on Flashscore are rather different....

Inverness 76/24
Ayr no data
Livi 48/52
Raith 53/47
Arbroath 55/45
Queens Park 54/46

I was listening to a podcast recently

(I think it might have been this one https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w3ct998z?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile )

And, from memory, they raise the point about average number of shots required on average for a goal. Obviously using means can result in some massively outliers but our number of shots on target are the most worrying stat for me. I`m concerned about folk sitting back against us and us struggling to break through, but perhaps that just a bit of arrogance.

I can`t believe some folk are moaning about the game. Some passages of play were quite simply outstanding. Yes, the second half wasn`t as intense and exciting as the first, but we were two goals up and we didn`t need to take any risks. Queens Park had no choice but to attack if they were to rescue a positive result and perhaps we conceded the initiative, but the Ox had quite an easy afternoon and we were never in danger.

On reflection if the performances in both halves had been reversed I`d have left the ground absolutely buzzing. As it happened I felt a bit flat.

At HT I really thought this could end up a cricket score.

Like you say GG Ox didn`t have a single save to make

If BBC Sport`s stats are right our opponents in our last two games have only managed one shot (which resulted in a goal unfortunately) between them and Ox has had no saves to make. We have conceded four goals in our six League games. With all the talk about the lack of goals I think this has been overlooked.

I thought Bray formed a great partnership with Lobban and terrorised Raith down the right in the 1st half. Got in behind the defence and made lots of chances in the box. Would like to see Bray get a start. Thought he was impressive 1st half.

Robbie Frazer used to send in amazing pin point crosses into the box last season. Would like to see this happen again.

Tod has some great touches but is too pedestrian, and back tracks when defenders challenge him. I think he needs dropped and have a spell as a sub as looked good when he came on against Raith. He is not giving enough over 90 minutes and slowing the attacks.

Josh Cooper has been amazing. I still think he is a better impact sub although would be worried that without him we might not score!! Chris Kane is off the pace and needs to get back to his best and Rudden is not making any impact.

Hats off to MacLeod for a great performance. I always liked him as a player. If a few of his other attempts had been on target they would have gone in.

When I read all the crticism of Andrew Tod I can only conclude that he is judged against higher standards than his team-mates. For me he has great awareness of what`s going on around him and keeps the ball moving. He`s quite happy to run at defenders when the opportunity arises and usually ends with a pass or a shot. Some folk seem to expect him to produce something exceptional every time he gets the ball.

The down side to that is we end up making multiple subs in the second half to give some players game time but we disrupt the rhythm of the team and lose the control we had in the first half. I think that happened yesterday to some extent.

We went from complete domination in the first half to struggling to create real chances in the second. It wasn`t our subs that caused that as we had already lost the upperhand in the second half - 5/10 minutes in I said to my mate that the team were still sat in the changing room . QP changed tactics and implemented a higher press ( they didnt cross the half way line when out of possession first half) which we didnt really adapt to. Our substitutions failed to change the second half pattern of the game which had been established by the time they came on.

I think he set a high bar last season and played a heck of a lot of games for a 19yo. Not just for the Pars but also for Scotland U21’s. His performances were starting to tail off a little towards the end of last season.
I didn’t think he had one of his better games yesterday. I am sure I commented on another thread a couple of weeks back that he would be one of the first names on my team sheet in answer to some criticism he was getting then.
I honestly think he would benefit from being left out for a couple of games. He may get that break soon with the internationals coming up.
Regardless of my and others opinion of his game yesterday I firmly believe that he will be an integral part of the team this season.
He can’t and won’t be the best player on the park week in week out, but he certainly has abilities that others don’t and will score quite a few goals again this season for sure. He has a better shot than any of our other forwards.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

It was disappointing not to win by more particularly after the start, but at the end of the season we won’t care.

I thought we’d played better in the first half at Gayfield, but this time we got the goals.

Again we faded out in the second half – but that can happen. The opposition will make changes, we will be tempted to sit back and manage the game, in particular doing things like taking Amade off and not risking an accident like a second yellow.

Also, I wonder if Adams and Oyirwoth are not quite up to speed yet – they start well but seem to fade. And sometimes they don’t seem on the same wavelength as their team-mates. I guess that’s what “not quite clicking” means. On the flip side the other teams will have worked them out better by the third and fourth time they play them.

The lack of goals compared to chances is a slight concern. I don’t think they are far away – Cooper and Tod (although he has missed a couple of easy ones) seem to believe they can score. The others could do with a goal (I did wonder at the time if Rudden would rue missing all those chances he had in the League Cup).

I’m still not entirely sure how MacLeod’s shot went in – the keeper seemed to dive out of the way. Did it take a slight deflection?

It is irritating thought when more players don’t have a pop – maybe there often just isn’t a gap – it’s hard to tell if there are a lot of bodies in the way, or whether it’s a lack of confidence. If you miss a few it must be tempting to give the ball to someone else, although Kane’s decision to pass within the 6-yard box was extraordinary. Will this be his last season? We do seem to have a surfeit of attacking options, with Shaw, Thomas and even Morrison to come in.

It`s odd how MacLeod has gone from hardly making the squad to starting, and others have gone the other way. It will be difficult to keep them all happy. We did seem to make more "like for like" changes than tactical switches - which suggests confidence in the formation. But as I`ve said before, it`s a 16 player game nowadays and it would be a foolish manager not to take advantage of this.

Some of these players are very good – they show little touches of class every so often – not just defending but winning the ball, not just winning the ball but laying it off to a team mate at the same time. I think these little things add up. There’s a lot to be optimistic about I think.

I actually think it’s the opposite wee eck, he gets a pass from a lot of supporters because of who he is even if he’s had a stinker. He missed chances against arbroath that folk on here would be slating shaw if he had missed them but nothing said.

The comments on this thread are about right, he’s very pedestrian and on the left he only has one trick to cut inside and when taking players on yesterday he mostly just gave the ball away and generally looked unconvincing with it. There’s plenty other players in the squad who could have given us what he did yesterday, We are crying out for a left winger tho.

He was good against raith, I think he would benefit from coming on a sub in forthcoming games to have more impact at least until things start falling his way again.

Berkey, you`re the guy who told us you only tend to come on here to criticise so it`s difficult to take anything you say seriously. You also seem to take pleasure in targeting mercilessly players who have come through our academy. First it was Matty Todd, then it was Lewis McCann and now it`s Andrew Tod. It`s beyond my comprehension why a Pars` fan would do that. Andrew can probably take some comfort from the fact that his former team-mates are now playing at a higher level than you ever foresaw for them.

His former teammates are playing at a higher level? Is league 2 a higher level? Fleetwood average gate appears to be 3k at best so not convinced.

Don’t forget matty was free to leave the summer before he did as he was very poor that season, he turned it round last season to his credit but when he was poor I said he was, what’s wrong with that. I’ve said Morrison has been poor, I just call it as I see it and regardless of whether they came through at the pars or not.

For what it’s worth it’s not tods fault Lenny is playing him despite him being jaded in last 3rd of last season and is clearly struggling so far this season in the league. The experiment where he was in beyond the front 2 was never going to work. On his day he can be lethal in front of goal but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s lacking in a few aspects of his game that will limit how far he’ll go and can make him look poor compared to others in our team. Playing him every week regardless isn’t helping anyone.

Give him a break with some sub appearances in games where they are more stretched and he might get his mojo back.

Is this another gem from Berkey`s Book of Football Theory - the standard of football depends on the size of the gates of the team you play for? If so, Fleetwood must be exceeding expectations as they`re currently 7th in a League of 24. A quick look at the attendances at the weekend suggests the average EL2 gate was over 5,000 whilst our Championship average was under 3.000.

We all know that before last season Matty`s form was affected by a string of injuries but you made no allowance for that.

If Andrew Tod has all the faults you claim I don`t think he`s going to improve by sitting on the bench. He`s only 20 and still learning the game. I think NL`s admitted he doesn`t know his best position but if he thinks he`s worth a starting place that`s fine by me. Maybe it`ll help him add to his under 21 caps and get him another invitation to train with the full Scotland squad.

There`s no issue with saying a player had a bad game or has been poor for a period of time. The issue people have, is how quickly a player is written off and often the language used. It`s obviously very subjective but your threshold (and some others') seems pretty low. Others give more weighting to potential, previous form and are more neutral with their language.
