According to the book by John Bolton which is due out next week Trump didn't know the UK had nuclear weapons and thought Finland was part of Russia.

In all seriousness, I think there's something wrong with Trump. Perhaps dementia. His mind clearly isn't what it was.

"Boris Johnson is the most intelligent man I've ever met."

Wow! That was just before the GE and I'm still trying to recover from the shock.

All I can say is Trump was lucky he did The Apprentice rather than be a guest on the US TV show Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader? because the answer would be a resounding no. I think even his normal day to day language shows his education level and grasp of the facts. There are definitely two things he’s never read. The Bible and the US constitution.

You obviously don’t need a lot of facts in order to cheat at Real Estate. Just a lot of daddy’s money. There is also another book coming out end of July from Trump’s niece Mary. She is no fan of her uncle so will be interesting to see what family under hand dealings she spills.

Boris Johnston is feckless and has no real clue on how to solve anything. At least his use of language is a little more sophisticated than Trump’s. Perhaps due to Journalist background. I guess that’s another fact that Trump is not aware of. The story about him not knowing that UK was a Nuclear armed state is quite astounding when you consider that the Trident missiles were bought from the US, although I know the warheads are British.

Americans are normally very proud of their constitution but I don’t think a person such as Donald Trump was intended to become President. The USA is vey prescriptive about who can hold public office, unlike in the UK where anyone old enough to vote and still alive can enter parliament and in theory be PM.

To be a congressman you have to be 25; a senator you must be 30; and the minimum age for President is 35. A President also has to have been born in the USA and been resident there for at least 14 years. If these restrictions applied to the UK then that would have debarred a few PMs from the job. Boris Johnson himself was born outwith Britain and I think still holds American citizenship.

But surely the drafters of the American constitution assumed that any President would have served his time as a congressman or senator before being able to take Presidential office. It’s Trump political inexperience more than any intellectual weakness that really exposes him as unfit for office.

<<It’s Trump political inexperience more than any intellectual weakness that really exposes him as unfit for office.>>

I think it is both, combined with inherent dishonesty and a total inability to absorb detail.

Trump cannot address issues in a meaningful way as he lacks empathy and understanding, is unnaturally self-obsessed, and worst of all, he refuses to listen to, let alone accept any criticism.

For sure it is endlessly fascinating to watch on from afar, but working closely with him must be exhausting and unbearable.

Can you imagine how many movies and TV dramas this presidency is going to spawn in the future?

With so many plotlines, it would be impossible to compress what has happened so far even into an extended-length movie.

It's reasonable to assume that Boris knows the USA is a nuclear power - whereas Donald (according to his former Secretary of Defence) was unaware that the UK was also one.

Who is the thicker ?

No contest.

David Cameron did not know that the USA had only joined WW2 in late 1941. He was in the USA congratulating them on being our allies since 1939 when his ignorance was exposed. That's the benefit of an Eton/Oxbridge education no doubt.

Raw intelligence is not the issue since political intelligence is of its own kind, the same as a football coach needs his own particular intelligence, not some egghead spelling out tactical systems. Trump has no experience of politics and this is his weakness, apart from his human failings which have been well documented above. He is not fit for office and cannot even be a figurehead like the intellectually challenged Reagan was, since Reagan had political experience and was probably a much better human being as well. Trump is actually worse than George W Bush which is some achievement.

The decline of the American Empire, since they executed Kennedy, can be seen in its presidents and will be easily recognised by historians.

To be fair to Cameron they were helping us with supplies from the start. Well since Churchill sank the French fleet and proved to them we were up for the fight anyway. That technically makes them our allies. They eventually joined us because the U boats kept sinking USA supply ships.

Well they technically they joined us only when Hitler declared war on them four days after Pearl Harbour. Without that colossal error in judgement there was every chance the USA would have been far more focused on the Pacific than the European theatre. As it was six months after the Soviets became fighting allies of Britain so did the Americans.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

"To be fair to Cameron they were helping us with supplies from the start."

During 1941 the US Navy participated in offensive action v U-boats before entering WW2, and pushed neutrality to the limit.

See "USS Kearney" - the Nazis cited this incident as a part of their justification for declaring war on the USA.

Donald is still the thicker !!!

Aye but they were just doing it to protect their own shipping. They were not in convoy with our warships. I think!

Kearny for info.. The British had occupied Iceland in May 1940, to prevent the Third Reich from gaining a foothold in the North Atlantic, but by 1941 the British were stretched thin, and requested the US take over the occupation. Rather than arrive as an occupation force, as the British had done, the US negotiated a treaty with the Icelandic government. The US military presence in Iceland was therefore never an occupation force, and Iceland was never occupied by the US.
The destroyer USS Kearny was docked in Reykjavík when a British convoy escorted by Canadian vessels was attacked by a German U-boat wolfpack. The escort vessels were quickly overwhelmed, and the USS Kearny sailed to their rescue and assistance. The crew and captain tried to keep the U-boats at bay by bombarding them with depth charges, but shortly after midnight on October 17 one of the U-boats managed to punch back, hitting the Kearny with a torpedo, killing 11 sailors and wounding 22.
The crew managed to contain the damage and the Kearny returned to harbor in Reykjavík. After repairs in Boston the ship returned to service, surviving the entire war.
The depth charges fired by the USS Kearny against the U-boats west of Faxaflói were cited by Hitler as a provocation by the US when he declared war on the US on December 11 1941.

Neither is what I'd call thick.

But both are eye-wateringly privileged and detached from life as experienced by the vast majority of the people they lead.

This clip may not answer the OP's question, but it's a bit of an eye opener for me. I remember telling anyone who would listen that there was no way Americans would ever elect the Donald.

Nobody could be that stupid, I reasoned......

This would be comedy gold if he wasn't the President of the good old US of A. Sadly for the UK, that blustering buffoon, Johnson, isn't much better.

Is this still up for debate after yesterday's mindnumbing declarations by El Presidente?

The guy must have mental health issues, so perhaps the thread title should be amended Mr Pappagallo. 🙂
