Rejecting the application for a gagging order, the master of the rolls, sitting with Lord Justice Tomlinson and Lord Justice Ryder, said: "First, much that has been published by the media in relation to the claimant's paternity remains available online. It is also included in Just Boris, a book written by Sonia Purnell.
"Secondly, the permanent injunction sought by the claimant would only restrain the defendant from referring to the information, although many other media organisations have published the same thing.
Now my favourite bit :)
"Thirdly, it is fanciful to expect the public to forget the fact that the man who is said to be the claimant's father, and who is a major public figure, has fathered a child after a brief adulterous affair (not for the first time). Nor are they likely to forget the outline facts of the story including the identity of the mother."

It all started years ago with Thatcher who sold off all the family silver(ie our national industries) to her pals for peanuts.Sure it was her government that also stopped the top up of the NI fund which funds pensions.
They are sooking up the cash for all their scam deals just now and the next target is the NHS.Eventually the country will own nothing but they'll all be rich.

There's more good news.
From the Guardian:-
''The UK government is facing legal action over Boris Johnson’s “moonshot” project, which could involve up to £100bn being spent on an attempt to increase Covid-19 testing capacity to 10m per day.
The health secretary, Matt Hancock, and the minister for the Cabinet Office, Michael Gove, are named in a case that alleges the project, as described in leaked papers, is unlawful because it ignores scientific evidence, involves potentially huge private contracts that may not have been tendered and breaks the government’s own value-for-money rules.
The project has been widely criticised as a misdirected effort when between 3 and 9 September, only 571,400 people were tested for infection in England in NHS and community settings, according to official figures. Community testing has been getting slower, with the median time taken to get a result at local test sites increasing from 24 hours to 35 hours.
Supporters of the project say it is the kind of ambitious thinking required to enable life to return to normal until an effective vaccine can be rolled out.''

Johnson plumbed new depths of crassness when he blamed the new spike in coronavirus cases on the British people's love of freedom being far greater than that of many other countries.
This has drawn some caustic responses from the leaders of countries who felt he was pointing at them. "We love our freedom, too," replied Italy's President Mattarelli, "but we also have seriousness."

I think coronavirus is messing things up for the opposition parties. If they start to talk politics instead of Covid then they will be accused of ignoring the .massive public health threat. to score political points.
I think the best thing to do would be to gather evidence now and wait a few months until coronavirus is off the front pages before attacking the government.

Read this today ...LA
By Miriam Margolyes.
“The United Kingdom has fallen. There has been a right wing coup in this country... . And nobody noticed. We did not notice because it was years in the making. We did not notice because when it came, it came in a blonde
wig and a mask of buffoonery. We did not notice because it lied to us and hid its true intent. We did not notice because the foreign manipulation was hidden from us and continues to be hidden from us. We did not notice, because the lies when they were discovered were hidden by more lies, until lack of truth became normal and acceptable.
We didn.t notice because it appealed to our basest nature. It cried racist, it cried xenophobe, it falsified a threat to our way of life and blamed others. We did not notice because we accepted all the promises and lies and now we cannot admit to our gullibility.
Make no mistake it has been moving steadily and stealthily. Have you not noticed how Parliament has been emasculated and how decisions are now taken by a few in a closed room? Have you noticed how the judiciary is being
sidelined? Have you noticed how the media are controlled & access to news is restricted? The BBC merely mouths faceless government sources and the papers howl racist xenophobic and government-fed lies?
Have you noticed how the police, under cover of COVID, are being encouraged gradually to interfere more and more in our lives? Have you noticed how we are being encouraged to report .unsocial behaviour. in our neighbour.s?
Have you noticed how the impartial Civil Service is being packed with yes men and government cronies? Committee after committee is rigged with government-friendly sympathisers.
Even now a review of the Armed Services is underway. Have you noticed how every means of objection or complaint is being stealthily closed? Have you noticed the intention to lower food standards, animal & environmental standards and abandon the guarantees of our basic human rights?
Have you noticed how measures trumpeted as keeping foreigners out, actually make it harder for US to leave? Finally have you noticed how the government is engineering circumstances under which everyone.s lives will be so much harder and under which we will have so much more to worry about than complain about our government?
Meanwhile the rape and asset- stripping of the country has already begun, with million-pound contracts awarded to cronies with no apparent expertise, siphoning money from the public purse to the private pocket and delivering
nothing.
It may already be too late but surely the time has come to cry enough! To stand up against the lies, the manipulation, the takeover of our Society. This government does not govern for the people. this government is
governing for itself. It has become an enemy of the people, its actions are treasonous. Surely it is time to demand better, time to TAKE BACK CONTROL.”

Fair play to Miriam, all of that is 100. true. If we had a labour government at the moment while all this was going on, the Tories as opposition would be crucifying them at every opportunity, but as it stands labour are saying nothing and letting things happen, even the left wing press is surprisingly quiet, which makes you think, are they all lining there pockets?
This is easily the worst government in my lifetime, and I have been around a good few years now, far worse than the Thatcher government.

As for the right wing coup - been blatantly obvious to me, same as in US and a worldwide shift to the far right.
No use pleading for folk to stand up and take control unless you`re gonna do it yourself. Is Miriam on the march?

From Aunty :-
Boris Johnson`s main adviser on keeping the UK together has departed, saying his position was made "untenable" by others within Downing Street.
Oliver Lewis, an ally of the prime minister`s former chief adviser, Dominic Cummings, was a key part of the campaign for the UK to leave the EU.
His departure comes as the Scottish National Party is calling for another referendum on independence.
Mr Lewis was confirmed in his role just two weeks ago.

From the Guardian :-
Boris Johnson is “an unrepentant and inveterate liar” who feels he is not subject to the same rules as others, Sylvie Bermann, the former French ambassador to the UK during the Brexit vote, says in a new book.
She also claims some Brexiters are consumed with hatred for Germany and gripped by a myth that they liberated Europe on their own, describing Brexit as a triumph of emotion over reason, won by a campaign full of lies in which negative attitudes to migration were exploited by figures such as Johnson and Michael Gove.
Bermann, who served as the French ambassador to the UK from 2014 to 2017 and has been one of the most senior diplomats in the French diplomatic service, including as ambassador to China and to Russia, assesses the British handling of the Covid pandemic as among the worst in the world alongside that of Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil. She predicts Johnson will seek to use Covid to mask the true economic cost of Brexit on the UK economy.

OH NO ..... He`s lying agin :-
Dozens of Covid contracts had not been published when Boris Johnson told MPs they were "on the record for everyone to see", campaigners say.
The Good Law Project said the PM`s assurance last month was "not true" because government lawyers had said 100 contracts were yet to be revealed.
The group successfully sued the government over its failure to reveal details about Covid deals last month.
The government said remaining contracts would be published as soon as possible.
The Department for Health and Social Care struck deals worth hundreds of millions of pounds during the coronavirus pandemic.
The government is required by law to publish a "contract award notice" within 30 days of the awarding any contracts for public goods or services worth more than £120,000.

Then there`s the scandal of the distribution of the `levelling-up fund` as reported by the Guardian -
`A fund intended to boost the UK’s most deprived places appears overwhelmingly skewed towards Tory-held areas, with dozens of Conservative regions in the top tier for assistance despite being relatively affluent, a Guardian analysis has found.
Among 93 English regions placed in the priority group of three tiers to receive money from the £4.8bn levelling up fund, 31 are included while not being ranked as in the top third most deprived places by average deprivation score.
Of these 31, 26 are entirely represented by Conservative MPs, with the others having at least one Tory MP.
Among the remaining five is Canterbury, is a highly marginal Labour-Conservative seat.`

OH NOooooo he`s lying again :-
Labour has accused Boris Johnson of lying to MPs after he wrongly claimed Sir Keir Starmer had voted against a pay rise for NHS workers in England.
The party is calling on the PM to "correct the record" after he said Labour had voted against a 2.1% rise.
Question..... is Boris the Brave lying ? .... Or does he not have a clue as to what is actually going on ?
Its not a great read really for the man supposedly in charge of G.B. :(

He was referring to Labour voting against the Queen`s Speech apparently, not the NHS pay rise!
From the Guardian:-
`...now No 10 is saying there is no need to the PM to correct the record - because in fact he was referring to Labour voting against the Queen’s speech, and so he was right all along. Allegra Stratton, the PM’s press secretary, said:
The prime minister was referring to Labour voting against the Queen’s speech in January of last year.
When it was pointed out that in the Commons yesterday Johnson said that Labour had voted against the “document” that Starmer was holding in his hand, Stratton said Labour’s vote against the Queen’s speech was “the basis” for the point Johnson made.
Asked why she had not said this yesterday, she said she had not had time to speak to Johnson between PMQs and the start of yesterday’s lobby briefing. She did not explain why, if Johnson’s account is accurate, there was no attempt to explain that to journalists later in the day.
This new line means Johnson’s won’t he apologising for misleading MPs, or correcting the record, because he has decided he was right all along.`
He gets more like Trump every day.

Capitalism and greed are exactly what these harmful lockdowns are about, it really isn't about a very survivable virus .

So what was the alternative to lockdowns?
Protect the vulnerable and let the young, fit and healthy go about their daily business unchecked? If that's the case, how does protecting the vulnerable work exactly?
Lock them all away somewhere so they don't come into contact with anyone that's not locked down?
Might as well open up big detention centres and chuck them all in there so people who more than likely will survive the virus can get on with their lives without having to feel guilty about possibly infecting someone who might later die.

Covid in Scotland: Churches win restrictions legal challenge
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-56511585
“Coronavirus regulations that forced the closure of churches in Scotland have been deemed unlawful.
A group of 27 church leaders launched a judicial review at the Court of Session arguing the Scottish government acted beyond their powers under emergency legislation.
Lord Braid agreed the regulations went further than was lawfully allowed.
He said the Scottish government regulations disproportionately interfered with the freedom of religion secured in the European Convention on Human Rights.
He added: "It is impossible to measure the effect of those restrictions on those who hold religious beliefs.”

Can`t we declare that DAFC is our religion, and it`s against the ECHR to stop us attending to worship?

Here we go again Sunday Mirror :-
Jennifer Arcuri today tells for the first time how she fell in love with Boris Johnson during an affair she says lasted four years.
The businesswoman says they slept together at the flat where she had a pole dancer’s pole.
Jennifer reveals a mutual “physical and intellectual attraction”. They shared a love of Shakespeare, she codenamed him Alexander the Great, and she says he loved her body and mind and “couldn’t keep his hands off me” on their first tryst.
But ultimately, she says, he was a “cowardly wet noodle” for not standing by her in the row over her presence on foreign trade trips.
Jennifer says her romance with PM Boris – who was Mayor of London at the time – lasted from 2012 to 2016. It was his second term of office and he was married to now ex-wife Marina, mother of their four children.
Questions first surfaced two years ago when it was revealed Jennifer, 35, was allowed on three taxpayer-funded trade missions led by Boris, 56.

The Thick Of It, Sir Alan Duncan`s book
Boris Johnson`s former deputy has said the Prime Minister is an "embarrassing buffoon" in a damning new book.
Mr Johnson is said to have asked, "Why don`t they take me seriously?", to which Sir Alan claims he replied: "Look in the ****ing mirror!"
In an entry on September 24, 2017, Sir Alan writes Mr Johnson "despises" Mrs May despite publicly supporting her.
The book reads: "He is a clown, a self-centred ego, an embarrassing buffoon, with an untidy mind and sub-zero diplomatic judgement.

It keeps getting better LA :-
The High Court has decided to look into Boris Johnson`s decision that Home Secretary Priti Patel did not break Whitehall rules over bullying.
The prime minister kept Ms Patel in post last year after he found she had not breached the ministerial code, which sets behavioural standards.
But the FDA senior civil servants` union, which brought the case, argued that Mr Johnson had "erred".
The court will now give a full hearing into its claims against him.
The government opposed taking the case forward in this way, saying the ministerial code was separate from the law and should remain so.

From Aunty 3 mins ago :-
The Electoral Commission has launched an investigation into funding of works on Boris Johnson`s Downing Street flat.
The spending watchdog said there were "reasonable grounds to suspect that an offence or offences may have occurred".
The PM is under growing pressure to declare how refurbishments were paid for after his ex-adviser said there was a plan for donors to "secretly pay".
Mr Johnson told MPs he had covered the revamp "personally", but would not say who had paid the initial bill.
And, speaking at the government`s Covid press conference, Health Secretary Matt Hancock repeatedly refused to comment on the funding of the refurbishment, urging the media to "concentrate on the big things that really matter".

He`s at it again :-
Boris Johnson is being investigated by the MPs` standards watchdog over the funding of his Caribbean holiday in late 2019.
Commons standards commissioner Kathryn Stone has confirmed she is looking into whether the PM correctly declared how the trip was paid for.
Mr Johnson has previously declared he received accommodation worth £15,000, covered by businessman David Ross.
No 10 has previously said it was properly registered.
Mr Ross, a co-founder of Carphone Warehouse, initially said he did not "pay any monies" for the trip to Mustique, a private island which is part of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
He later clarified that he had "facilitated" accommodation for the prime minister, and Mr Johnson`s declaration of a "benefit in kind" was "correct"
.
The prime minister took the holiday with his then-partner Carrie Symonds, now his fiancée, between Boxing Day 2019 and 5 January 2020.

Hehehe wee eck this from Aunty :-
A county court judgement has been registered against Boris Johnson`s name for an unpaid debt of £535.
The court order, which names Mr Johnson, of 10 Downing Street, was made on 26 October, according to a database of judgements.
The creditor and nature of the debt are not included in the database record, which was first reported by Private Eye magazine.
Downing Street has been contacted for a comment.
County court judgements are issued in England and Wales when people fail to repay money they owe.
"If you get a judgment, this means that the court has formally decided that you owe the money," according to a government website.
A bailiff "may visit your home if you do not pay your debts", the website warns.
Banks and loan companies can also use the information to decide whether to issue credit or loans.
"If you`re late with your payments, you could be taken back to court and you may have to pay extra costs," the website adds.

Well Well there you go .... Its all been a misunderstanding :-
Boris Johnson did not break the ministerial code over the funding of the Downing Street flat refurbishment, a report says.
But Lord Geidt, the prime minister`s adviser on standards, found he had "unwisely" allowed work to go ahead without "more rigorous regard" for how it would be paid for.
He found that a Tory donor had settled an invoice for some of the costs.
But Mr Johnson was unaware of this, Lord Geidt added.
This meant no conflict of interest had arisen, he said.

What do you mean you gave it to me?
That was the money that she gave to me and I gave it to you to give to him,
then you gave it back to me and I had to give it to her to give to him.
Was that the money that she gave to him that I gave to you to give to her?
Why certainly.
Well, if she wants to give it to him, that`s her business.
No use you and I arguing about it.

Did anyone expect anything different? The Cabinet is corrupt to the core. Any investigation into their activities is bought and paid for, even where the are at fault then the papers will take care of that, or the royals will pop up with a story to take the heat off.
And the majority of folk are too stupid to care.
I heard a women on the radio on the day, member of the public whose elderly relative had died in a care home at the start of the Pandemic and she was still defending Boris and Matt.

WTAF. Surely a way to find out if daily testing is effective is to test daily while self isolating. Once the daily testing is shown to work we can remove the self isolating part of the exercise. This could be needlessly putting the wider public at risk.

Off course there is no connection to Tory Policy who could ever think that
From the F.T. :-
https://www.ft.com/content/c5737fbb-2893-4a5a-be5e-965785f1a37b
looks like the link is not working heres the old way :-
The Conservative party has received almost £18m in donations from 154 donors with property interests since Boris Johnson became UK prime minister two years ago, according to Financial Times analysis.
The donations made by individuals and companies in the property sector — which account for a quarter of total donations made to the Tory party since July 2019 — come as Johnson pushes ahead with a contentious liberalisation of England’s planning system which critics say could benefit housing developers.
An FT analysis of data published by the Electoral Commission, the UK watchdog for election and party finance, found that at least £17.9m has been given to the Conservative party from property sector donors since July 24, 2019 — when Johnson entered Downing Street. The analysis includes all company donors and those who have given over £100,000 but excludes hundreds of individuals who gave smaller amounts, meaning the true figure could be higher.
Annual property sector donations to the Conservative party under Johnson’s predecessors — Theresa May and David Cameron — ranged from 4 per cent to 12 per cent of the party’s income in the years 2010 to 2018, according to Transparency International UK. The majority of the party’s income comes from donations.
The new FT analysis of donations includes property developers, financiers and investors, as well as hotel tycoons and residential care home developers and operators.
The most generous property donor since Johnson took power in 2019 was Sir Tony Gallagher, the billionaire property developer, who has given £1.5m through his company Countywide Developments. Gallagher was knighted in 2020 for services to land development and property. Gallagher Developments did not respond to a request for comment.
Steve Morgan, former chair of Redrow, one of the UK’s biggest housebuilders, gave £1.25m through Bridgemere UK PLC, his development and investment group. The group is controlled by a Morgan family trust.

In other Boris Johnson-related news, the Guardian’s Scotland editor, Severin Carrell, writes:
Police Scotland has saved itself from a diplomatic and political gaffe after an attentive officer realised that calling its special security operation to protect the prime minister, Boris Johnson, Operation Bunter might cause problems.
The name was apparently allocated by the force’s computer from a list of pre-selected names, the Scottish Sun has reported, before an officer drew Police Scotland back from the brink and changed it, to Operation Aeration.
The prime minister is thought to be planning a visit to Scotland later this week, to promote his government’s case against independence. There are hints some members of the force enjoyed the joke, before the operation was renamed.
The Sun quoted an “insider” saying: “Operation Aeration was selected as the alternative. But I’m not sure moving away from Billy Bunter to a name that implies the PM is full of air is much of an improvement.”
The paper’s source said: “The name ‘Operation Bunter’ was given to the preparations. But several people pointed out the foolishness of calling it after a fat, posh English public schoolboy - not least given the PM is known for being a bit portly.”
Police Scotland refused to comment on the mechanics of the decision, but a spokesperson said: “Operational names are auto-generated by computer and can be changed if deemed to be inappropriate.”

Likes a joke apparently :-
Margaret Thatcher gave the UK "a big early start" in the move away from coal-fired power by closing "so many coal mines", Boris Johnson has said.
"We`re now down to less than 2%, I think it`s I% of our energy comes from coal," the prime minister added.
He was speaking on a visit to an offshore wind farm in the Moray Firth.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the comments were "crass and deeply insensitive" to mining communities.
She tweeted: "Lives and communities in Scotland were utterly devastated by Thatcher`s destruction of the coal industry (which had zero to do with any concern she had for the planet)."
Labour said he should apologise for the "shameful" comments.

In 1978 PM Jim Callaghan was holed below the waterline when he was interviewed coming back from a conference in Guadeloupe at a time when many public sector workers were taking strike action. `Crisis? What Crisis?` was the Sun headline alongside a photo of a well-tanned Sunny Jim.
Boris Johnson can expect a much easier ride of course, otherwise he would never have gone off in the first place. The celebrity worship which has developed as part of our culture, a modern form of serfdom really, allows Johnson to quite openly turn his back on the UK and be applauded for doing so by his support base. `We need a fresh Boris back at the helm` type of rot.

Thank goodness we have reached an agreement :-
Liz Truss and Dominic Raab are to share the grace-and-favour Chevening House mansion, ending a row between them over who should have access to it.
The foreign secretary and deputy PM had been at loggerheads over the Grade 1-listed, 115-room country house in Kent since last month`s cabinet reshuffle.
But Prime Minister Boris Johnson has decided they should both have use of it for personal and work use.
The building was gifted to the nation in the 1950s.
Since then, it has been up to the prime minister to decide who uses Chevening, with the foreign secretary the usual beneficiary.

Reflecting on the proposal that the Foreign Secretary and the Deputy Prime Minister should share Chevening House, maybe Liz and Dom could make a joint application to enter it for that reality TV programme `Four in a Bed`.

COP26 will be interesting with Tories voting through raw sewage being disposed of in rivers and eventually the sea, causing a real stooshy down South.
Scottish Tories also supported the vote even though it does not apply in Scotland, some English counties being advised to boil their water and some beaches out of bounds already.
This appears to be another benefit of Brexit along with millions of gallons of human sh*t on its way from Holland to be spread on fields, something not allowed in the EU.

There was a good piece on the radio yesterday about farming and the environment. Really good activist raising concerns about pollution in the Wye Valley. Rather than finger pointing she was going out her way to speak to farmers and understand why they would do things like spreading cake (feces) on the fields. What was interesting was the farmer explaining they thought of spreading the manure on the fields as environmentally friendly but weren't as aware of the impact on the river and surrounding wildlife.
This problem needs to be tackled but it definitely can't be done on the basis of ordering farmers to stop doing what they have probably done for years. The issue now is more related to the intensity of the farming and the number of animal farms, particularly chicken farms.

From Aunty :-
Boris Johnson has confirmed he stayed for free at a holiday home owned by the family of Lord Zac Goldsmith - who received a peerage from the PM in 2019.
The list of ministers` interests says the PM has "a longstanding personal friendship" with the family and "in that capacity" stayed at their place in southern Spain last month.
Downing Street had previously refused to confirm if the trip had happened.
Labour said it was "more evidence of the sleaze engulfing this government".
"It`s obvious to everyone that the prime minister is dishing out cushy jobs to his mate who pays for his luxury holidays," said the party`s deputy leader Angela Rayner.
"Yet again Boris Johnson behaves like it`s one rule for him and another for everyone else."

So our Prime Minister (who apparently won third prize in a competition to make Winston Churchill out of marshmallows) claims to be so stupid as to not believe that a valuable gift from someone he gave a peerage and a cushy job to doesn't count because they are friends.
Actually Boris, that counts even more ya dafty, you are Prime Minister and really can't be giving your pals jobs or taking valuable (worth tens of thousands apparently) gifts from them. It looks corrupt. It is corrupt.

Similarly, the Daily Mirror says police are coming "under pressure" to investigate the accusation the Conservative Party was giving places in the House of Lords to multimillionaire donors.
The paper quotes Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, who has accused the prime minister of being "up to his neck" in sleaze.
The government has defended the peerages, saying they were philanthropists who were successful in business and ought to be considered for the Lords, the paper adds.

Be careful not to mistake manufactured media popularity for the real deal. The media create the image of `Boris`- not a name he is known by to family and friends- in much the same way they created an image of Iron Lady `Maggie` (who was never called Maggie to her face in her life. The articles and selected photographs of Johnson are generally very flattering and used to create the image of a national leader. The reality is that he would struggle to walk down any high street in any town in England without being jostled. Granted Johnson is more acceptable to a chunk of the English electorate in a way unimaginable in Scotland, but that falls well short of being widely popular.

Oh Jings Jennifer is back :-
Extraordinary details of how Boris Johnson allegedly overruled the advice of staff to promote the business interests of his former lover Jennifer Arcuri and win her affections are revealed in previously unpublished diary extracts by the US businesswoman.
According to one entry, the then London mayor even offered to be her “throttle” in an attempt to accelerate her business career, claims that may reopen the possibility of Johnson facing a potential criminal investigation into misconduct allegations.
The diary entries – which appear to have been written during Arcuri’s affair with Johnson and have been seen by the Observer – also suggest that he broke the rules governing ethical conduct in public office in his dealings with Arcuri.
I`ll bet he could throttle her now :-))

The government has scrapped the Leeds leg of the HS2 high-speed rail line as part of a package that ministers promise will transform services.
The prime minister told the BBC the overhaul would mean faster travel up to 10 years earlier than planned and end the need to "plough through villages".
The package won support from some business leaders, and anti-HS2 groups.
But Boris Johnson faced criticism that he had reneged on investment promises to the Midlands and north of England.
Faster travel from where to where Boris the Brave ?
Also are these the same villages that were never even given consideration under the original Plan ??

Interesting debate scheduled for tomorrow!
Tomorrow time in the Commons has been set aside for a debate on a motion chosen by the SNP. The party has announced that it is tabling a censure motion against Boris Johnson. The motion says:
That, this House censures the prime minister, the right honourable member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, for frequently violating the sixth principle of public life, for seeking to undermine the recommendations of the standards committee on Owen Paterson, for regularly ignoring independent advice on matters such as international treaties and breaches of the ministerial code by his ministers, for putting forward proposals to diminish the powers of the Electoral Commission, for ignoring independent advice concerning the granting of peerages to Conservative party donors and nominations to public bodies such as Ofcom; and further calls for his ministerial salary to be reduced by £41,567 per year.
The sixth principle of public life, as drawn up by the Nolan committee, is honesty. “Holders of public office should be truthful,” the Nolan principles say.

Reported in the Guardian -
Support for Scottish independence has hit a recent high of 55%, according to an Ipsos Mori poll for STV that contradicts a recent downturn in the yes vote.
Ipsos MORI found that, counting only those certain to vote and excluding don’t know, the yes vote had a 10-point lead over no, at 45%. Most recent polls by other companies have put the no vote ahead, by between two to six points.
Rather than the panels of voters polled over the internet used by most pollsters, Ipsos Mori uses telephone polling of random voters – a technique it regards as superior. It recorded a record yes vote of 58% last year (a figure not directly comparable with figures from other pollsters, because its methodology is different).
Ipsos also registered the lowest satisfaction for Boris Johnson it has recorded for Scotland, putting it at 16%. With don’t knows at 4%, it found 80% of Scottish voters were dissatisfied with the prime minister’s performance. In April this year, with the Covid vaccination programme underway, Johnson saw his best Ipsos rating in Scotland: 27% positive against 64% negative.

What phone numbers do they use - land line? Don’t have a house phone even plugged in
- mobile? unknown callers very rarely answered and on the odd occasion I answer as soon as I hear a voice that sounds like it wants to sell me stuff/ask for details it’s hung up and number added to blocked caller list

Somebody must be answering their phone calls. You could equally ask how online polls work. Do respondents volunteer to reply after they know the question?

I used to have these arguments with researchers in my old work. All the surveying was done on the street, during the day. So who are you surveying:
Old people
Stay at home parents
Unemployed
Students
The vast majority would be at this place called "work". They also located in certain places like shopping centres. Imagine the Kingsgate at 11am on a Tuesday!

I`m not clear what point you`re making. Polling has been going on for years and the pollsters are careful to ensure as far as possible that their samples are representative of the whole population. I presume that`s the case regardless of the method of contact.

Jake with respect are you saying these people you have highlighted have no right to an opinion or have an adverse effect on the poll ? And the people who you think are working have a greater right to an opinion and a truer effect on the poll ?

No, not at all. What I`m pointing out is these surveys miss out an enormous group of people on the basis of carrying out surveys when they are unavailable. They are therefore massively flawed.

And this may explain why in recent years the polls have generally been massively out. So many people do not have landlines and mobiles give them the opportunity to easily see who is calling. Therefore, you do not get access to as wide a spectrum of voters.
I realise they go for quotas but it depends how they address those quotas and if their approach is robust enough to ensure they reflect the primary groups in the country. Recent polls suggest not.

Yes, they exist...
There are approximately 2.4m working adults in Scotland. Most of them work fairly standard day shifts. If someone is doing a poll during the day where they phone a landline, who is answering?
These polls need to be taken with a massive pinch of salt. If we trusted the polls then Scotland would be independent, we would still be in Europe and Gareth Gates would have won Pop Idol.

Just to add that most people have some doubts about the accuracy of polls but I think quite a lot of `science` goes into selecting the sample. This most recent poll had a lot more information in it than what was stated above in the Guardian report. It was discussed on STV last night and the results were analysed by age and gender, for example, so the pollsters must know quite a lot about the respondents.

nurses

hospitality staff

Late/night shift work consists of around 10% of the working population. It`s actually gone down a fair bit in Scotland.
Your average Scot works daytime hours doing around 38hours p/w.
Put it this way, the community surveys carried out in my old job were done in such a way that no-one in my office (people who were a target demographic) would ever be able to do the survey.
It`s interesting to see phone is seen as more trustworthy than online polls. I`d imagine people would be more honest on an online poll than with someone on the phone. I imagine the lack of trust is due to potential tampering.

Not sure who that is aimed at, but wanting the result proposed and questioning the veracity of the proposal are not mutually exclusive.
I voted yes last time and will be an even stronger yes next time, but that doesn’t mean I blindly believe telephoned polls.
The only polls that count are those on Election Day and as the people of Scotland gave a mandate for indy2 (and not for the first time!) - that means nobody can deny us referendum and then pretend they are even remotely democratic

It was aimed at interested parties who tend to underplay their significance when results are not in their favour. It wasn`t aimed at anyone in particular. I think the polling companies try to make them as accurate as possible.

I used to do the political opinion polls, it`s fair to say there are certain types who will take the time to answer whilst others not interested.
In my time working there I can honestly say I didn`t see any attempts to "load" the results in favour of any particular outcome and calls were made both inside and outside normal working hours...

They would likely be perfectly fine, but the NHS won`t be. Of course, it suits them to overburden the NHS. Helps them justify privatising it like they privatised the railways. Run it into the ground, sell it off and then end up paying subsidies to private companies owned by their pals.

From Aunty :-
The government will aim to provide rehab for 300,000 drug users who carry out half of all shop thefts, robberies and burglaries, Boris Johnson has said.
The prime minister said the 10-year strategy for England and Wales would also tackle 2,000 county lines gangs.
The £300m gangs crackdown will be joined by the "largest ever investment in treatment", the government said.
Other measures include using dealers` seized phones to message clients and discourage drug use.
It would appear he doesn`t have far to look for them :)
The strategy comes as the House of Commons Speaker promised to raise allegations that drugs were being used in Parliament with the Metropolitan Police, after the Sunday Times found traces of cocaine in lavatory areas.

``The mystery is how has it taken a year for this to come to public attention?``
Editors will sit on stories, having agreed some sort of truce with political power brokers, until the moment is right. The Daily Mail headline today: ‘The Party is Over’ is preparing the ground for Johnson to be replaced as Tory leader since he is struggling to command the trust of those who arranged for his ludicrous coronation. The Xmas party story will have been known for some time.
What would have previously been toned down in MSM is now being reported quite openly. Starmer, for once, hit the jackpot today when he contrasted the Queen at her husband’s funeral with the frolicking at Downing Street: not even the Telegraph or the Daily Express can argue with him over that.
Johnson might be more use to his party as an ex-PM since all the problems with Covid, Brexit, NI border controls, Afghan hounds, frozen pensions and outrageous corruption in Covid contracts can be laid at his door. A metaphorical public hanging of Johnson and his wife would go down very well with the electorate. Enter Rishi Sunak, the man so rich he has no need to fiddle the system, and the Tories then have a sensible front man to lead their next election bid.

Allegra Stratton has resigned as a government adviser following an angry backlash over a video of No 10 staff joking about holding a Christmas party.
The video, obtained by ITV, was leaked on Tuesday, showing the PM`s then-press secretary mocking a "fictional" gathering - four days after Downing Street staff held a party in lockdown.
Delivering tearful statement, she said would "regret the remarks for the rest of my days".
And she offered her "profound apologies" to the public.

Stratton will be back. She’s done this apology routine before after haranguing a single mother on Newsnight some years ago. She suggested the mother was a sponger, unlike Stratton no doubt who gets paid over £100,000 for being a ‘government adviser.’ Or courtier as they were called in times past.
Her husband is best chums with Sunak whilst she attended the same private school as Johnson’s latest wife. She represents an entire class of media that comes from a privileged background and works in the interests of maintaining inherited power and wealth. Any tears she sheds will be for herself.

Gaun yersel Dougie :-
Boris Johnson must resign if he misled Parliament about a Christmas party at Downing Street, the Scottish Conservative leader says.
Douglas Ross says there had clearly been a party of some sort, which would have been against Covid rules.
Ross says he had been "angry, annoyed and really disappointed" at the video that emerged on Tuesday night.
He says he still had confidence in the prime minister to lead the country, but added it would be "completely unacceptable" if he was found to have misled parliament on the issue.
Ross says: "If the prime minister knew about this party last December, knew about this party last week, and was still denying it, then that is the most serious allegation.
"There is absolutely no way you can mislead parliament and think you could get off with that."

Rastapari was the first person on this site, over a year ago, who forecast that the restrictions placed on citizens would not apply to those in power. He was adopting an anarchist perspective which is almost unheard of in the UK but nonetheless chimes with many lower down the social order. Maybe he was more pleb than anarchist. It turns out he was right.
At the time he was largely ignored, rather than argued against. At that time anyone screaming for harsher lockdowns was a patriot. In fact, probably still is.
Now the mask has slipped we see that those who were ordering restrictions never truly believed in them being useful themselves. They knew it was a means of control, albeit for a genuine health danger, but could see the opportunity to control the public. This was pointed out by myself and others some time ago and the biggest viral threat to our lives is not Covid: it is government UK.

Exactly. The issue here isn`t the approach, it`s that there is a lack of buy-in to the approach amongst the public, partly because of idiots like Johnson who continually flout the rules.
Catherine Calderwood was caught sneaking to her second home in Elie to "check on it". She resigned.
Nicola Sturgeon was too close to a couple of people at a wake. She apologised.
Margaret Ferrier broke the rules. She was chastised by her boss and will appear in court.
So what of all the allegations against Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Gove, Cummings etc?
They`re sat in London, snorting coke in the toilets, refusing to follow the laws they pass and then laughing. The worst bit is that people will STILL vote for them.

They knew it was a means of control, albeit for a genuine health danger, but could see the opportunity to control the public. This was pointed out by myself and others some time ago and the biggest viral threat to our lives is not Covid: it is government UK.
Oh come on....a bunch of immature kids doesn`t represent the whole of government applying rules on others but not themselves.
There were always going to be a few who broke the rules given the number of people involved.

The restrictions applied to ALL, so what`s being suggested here is incorrect. The reality is that certain people in Government chose to disregard the rules. They weren`t alone by any means. Lots of people decided they didn`t need to isolate or stay within 5 miles of home or whatever.

That`s what the government would like us to believe I`m sure, but there are reports of regular Friday evening parties in Downing Street. The woman who resigned yesterday was hardly an immature kid since she is her 40s I think. Some reports talk of 30 or 40 persons involved at these parties. Hardly a secret one-off event.
The police must have been aware of this since they are responsible for security but Cressida Dick`s capacity for upholding the law is well known.
Making laws they have no intention of adhering to is part and parcel of government. The only bar in Britain where you can legally smoke a fag is in the House of Commons.

You would think after all the lies that have been told recently by the PM and U.K. gov ministers, all the lies they have told for years, all the lies that were told during the Brexit campaign and all the lies that they told to the people of Scotland during the referendum campaign, that there would be very very few proud Scots still in favour of leaving the future of our country and the future of our kids and grand kids in the hands of others.
Yet there are still many.
Let them decide our future…….or let the Scottish people decide our future.

Problem is that Scottish politicians aren`t as squeaky clean as people would like to think. The difference is the Scottish ones tend to resign.
An independent Scotland could well vote for the equivalent of Tories. The Tories were popular in Scotland in the past.

Of course it is bigger than him. It not BJ that’s the problem per say, its the whole system that he is just a part of. If he goes, he just gets replaced by another liar. His replacement might not be so brazen but it will just be more of the same. Ultimately we will still be leaving the decision making to WM, rather than the people of Scotland.
The stronger Parliament, more powers, as close to federalism as possible, all the statements made at the time to con Scots into voting NO will just be empty words and broken promise…lies basically.
Our parliament is currently being stripped of powers. I can’t remember being asked to give my consent……..democracy U.K. style.

I suppose if an independent Scotland did vote for a party, eg tories, then we would get that government (and it would be our choice)
However the difference is that in scenario, if we then decided to change our minds at the next election, they would be voted out!
As it stands, we basically get what is voted for elsewhere

Nationalism is not the same as independence as Nicola Sturgeon will understand better than anyone. At present there will be plenty of ‘natural’ Labour, Tory and Liberal voters quite happy to put an X next to the SNP in a polling booth.
The real test comes when a referendum forces voters to choose between nationalism and independence. The case against Westminster is not difficult to make while Johnson and his chums are partying instead of governing, but to win an independence vote means to convincingly present a positive case.
And winning a vote, as Brexit has made clear, is only the beginning: not the end.

More Lies .. this from Aunty :-
Boris Johnson`s press chief offered to quit after it emerged he had given a speech at a Downing Street party held when Covid restrictions were in place, two separate sources have told the BBC.
The sources said the PM had refused to accept Jack Doyle`s resignation.
Downing Street insists Mr Doyle did not offer to quit, and the PM has since declared his "full confidence" in him.
The government has launched an inquiry into the party, attended by up to 30 people on 18 December last year.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer called the prime minister "unfit for office" and said it was important to "get to the bottom" of what had happened, including whether Covid rules had been broken.
A total of 58,194 new UK coronavirus cases were reported on Friday - the highest number since January and the sixth largest daily amount since the pandemic started.

From the Guardian 1 hour ago :-
No prime minister has ever avoided questions quite like Boris Johnson
Boris Johnson’s one minute and 40 second video announcing there would be no further Covid restrictions in England before Christmas was more revealing than he realised. He has travelled far from the daily Downing Street Covid press conferences at the start of the pandemic, which genuinely engaged the public and disseminated vital (if sometimes mixed) messages.
At a critical moment, Johnson has made two public statements on Covid this week – Monday’s pool clip (shared among broadcasters, who take turns to send one journalist to ask a few questions) and last night’s in-house video with no reporters present. Pointedly, the BBC declined to run any clips from it on its news bulletins, as Number 10 hoped, so it was hardly a communications triumph.
The BBC rightly concluded that if this line were crossed, Downing Street wouldn’t even allow pool clips in future; Johnson could read from a script, safe in the knowledge he would not be quizzed about it. We would have government messaging by Twitter video. The Chinese Communist Party would be proud of it.
It tells us how much trouble Johnson is in when he wants to avoid even a few questions. Indeed, his last two pool clips have hardly gone well. Quizzed by Sky News’s Sam Coates on Friday, he appeared to blame the Tories’ crushing defeat in the North Shropshire by-election on the media’s “constant litany of stuff about politics and politicians” – meaning the totally irrelevant question of whether those who made the Covid rules a year ago were breaking them at Downing Street parties.

As many as 100 people were invited to a "bring-your-own-booze" drinks event in the Downing Street garden during the first lockdown, it is understood.
Witnesses have told the BBC the PM and his wife were among about 30 people who attended the gathering on 20 May 2020.
But Boris Johnson has declined to say whether he was among those there.
The Metropolitan Police said it was in contact with the government over "widespread reporting relating to alleged breaches" of Covid rules.

From Aunty :-
Boris Johnson`s apology in the Commons earlier was "carefully worded and obviously lawyered", an expert in the government`s Covid rules concludes.
Human rights lawyer Adam Wagner says the PM`s defence was "a personal one only", with its framing that he believed the event was in the rules, and argument that it could technically be said to have fallen within the guidance.
But it "doesn`t make any sense at all given what the government were telling everyone else to do at the time", he says.
In an extensive Twitter thread, the Covid regulations expert says the apology appeared to directed at people who now believe the PM broke the rules - rather than an admission he did breach them.

From the independent newspaper - JRM said,
But Mr Rees-Mogg told BBC’s Newsnight: “Douglas Ross has always been quite a lightweight figure.”
He said the Secretary of State for Scotland, Alister Jack, who is supportive of the prime minister, was “much more substantial and important”.
The Commons leader made the remark after brushing aside presenter Kirsty Wark’s statement that Newsnight had been told all 31 Scottish Conservative MSPs believe Boris Johnson should quit.
Earlier, Mr Rees-Mogg told LBC he did not think the Scottish Conservative leader was “a big figure”.

Yeah, it`s happened in our Constituency with Neil Hanvey, elected on SNP vote, then suspended by the party, moves to Alba. Now sitting in a seat that is being tipped as a Labour gain next GE, Laird the previous encumbant wasn`t very good!

Agreed, if you change ideology from the one you were voted on (even if you couldn’t really get a cigarette paper between the two in question) then you no longer have the mandate of the electorate as they voted for the party
It’s why our PM can change without a a new election as people vote for a party and not the individual per se

That seems illogical when the party gaining the most seats is allowed to form the government.
Incidentally, the Guardian is reporting this :-
`Sue Gray, the senior civil servant investigating partygate, has found the email from a very senior civil servant to Martin Reynolds, Boris Johnson’s principal private secretary, saying the party on 20 May 2020 should be cancelled because it broke the rules, ITV’s Robert Peston reports. The existence of this email was revealed by Dominic Cummings in a blog on Monday.
As Peston says, this would amount to written proof undermining Johnson’s claim that he was not told the party would be against the rules.`

You`ve got your order of events about Neale Hanvey wrong. Was suspended from party for "antisemitism" (it definitely wasn`t), stood in General election as an independent and won, readmitted to party after an apology so then became SNP MP, joined Alba as he felt SNP were not progressing indy fast enough, has sadly now become a transphobic bigot.
Anyway, point I was making is he wasn`t elected as an SNP MP.

I can explain why it`s democratic - you`re supposed to vote for who best represents you, not what colour their badge is.
The vote should be for Neale Hanvey, not SNP or Alba. Of course, we know that doesn`t happen which is why you could have stuck a Labour badge on a M&S mannequin and it would get elected in 90s Dunfermline!

From the Beeb :-
A Conservative backbencher who accused Downing Street of trying to "blackmail" MPs seeking to oust Boris Johnson is to meet police to discuss his allegations.
William Wragg said he will be speaking to a Met Police detective in the House of Commons early next week, after requesting a meeting with the force.
The MP, who wants the prime minister to quit, said he wanted to leave any probe to "experts" rather than No 10.

Maybe a total waste of time ? :-
Will Sue Gray be able to take disciplinary action?
According to the inquiry`s terms of reference: "If required, the investigations will establish whether individual disciplinary action is warranted".
Any specific HR action against individual members of staff - either civil servants or political advisers - would be confidential.
If there is evidence a minister has breached the Ministerial Code - such as potentially misleading parliament - it could be investigated by the prime minister`s standards adviser Lord Geidt.
Mr Johnson would need to give permission before any new inquiry was launched and he ultimately decides if any minister - including himself - has broken the code.

More discontent in the Tory party according to the Guardian :-
`Lord Agnew of Oulton has resigned his post as a minister based jointly in the Treasury and in the Cabinet Office in a surprise statement from the despatch box in the House or Lords. He said he was quitting because of his disapproval of the government’s response to the problem of fraudulent Covid business claims. He told peers:
`Given that I am the minister for counter fraud, it would be somewhat dishonest to stay on in that role if I am incapable of doing it properly. It is for this reason that I have sadly decided to tender my resignation as a minister across the Treasury and Cabinet Office with immediate effect.`
Last week the government admitted that it expect to write off more than £4bn in Covid payments that were claimed fraudulently.`
Of course in Scotland the Tories were criticising the SNP for slow payment of Covid-related business assistance and Nicola Sturgeon explained that one of the reason for delays was to allow sufficient time for security checks on applicants.

Downing Street has admitted that staff gathered inside No 10 to celebrate Boris Johnson`s birthday when the first Covid lockdown was still in place.
ITV News reports up to 30 people attended the June 2020 event, sang Happy Birthday and were served cake.
No 10 said staff had "gathered briefly" to "wish the prime minister a happy birthday", adding that he had been there "for less than 10 minutes".
Rules at the time banned most indoor gatherings of more than two people.
ITV News said the birthday event had taken place in the Cabinet Room just after 2pm on 19 June 2020, adding that it had been a surprise for Mr Johnson after he returned from an official trip to a school in Hertfordshire.
It also reported that family and friends had been hosted in the prime minister`s residence that evening.

For me, Agnew resigning is the big story. It`s interesting that any time a story like this appears, such as government contracts going to friends companies with out proper tender, fraudulent covid payments totalling billions being written off without investigation, then there is always another leak of a Lockdown party. Fair enough, the party`s are serious, but in my view they are being leaked specifically to fill the front pages and hide the real story - the theft of billions of pounds of taxpayers money by this government

Now that the alleged parties at 10 Downing Street are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police any discussion regarding them should be closed in order to allow a proper investigation to take place. It’s unfortunate that Sue Gray’s report will not appear this week but due process must be followed. The law is the law after all. We’re lucky to have someone with a track record like Cressida Dick to pursue the investigation. It may take months of course, possibly years, but until then the PM must be assumed innocent and keep doing the job he’s best at: running the country.

This from the Beeb just now :-
We`ve got a breaking news line now from the BBC`s Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg.
We`ve been reporting that parts of senior civil servant Sue Gray`s report into Downing Street parties will be delayed while the Metropolitan Police Service investigates.
But Laura says this may now have changed. She says the Met seems to have indicated they have no objection to the full report being published before the end of the investigation.
This means the report may be published sooner rather than later.
However, she adds that the situation remains very unclear and there`s a real sense at Westminster that nobody knows what the decision will be.
We`ll bring you more details as we get them.

I mean, it`s a bigger burn to say that they think he`s helping them to achieve their aim of bringing down the Tory government?
It`s probably even true - they`d not have as easy a job with anyone else at the minute.

Boris Johnson has mocked Ian Blackford’s weight in cutting personal exchanges at Prime Minister’s Questions.
The Prime Minister made the cruel jibe as the SNP Westminster leader raised the claims that Johnson had enjoyed a birthday party and cake in Downing Street during one of the partygate events being investigated by Sue Gray.
At Prime Minister’s Questions Blackford said the Downing Street scandals were diverting from real issue facing the public.
He said: “It’s sucking attention from the real issues facing the public, The impending national insurance tax hike hangs like a guillotine while they eat cake.”
“This is nothing short of a crisis and the only the only route to restore public trust is for the Prime Minister to go.”
But Johnson hit back: “I don’t know who has been eating more cake?”

Blackford was asked about Johnson`s response on Radio Scotland but said he didn`t want to discuss it as it was just another deflection tactic by the PM. However, when asked about Johnson`s claim that they get on well together outside the chamber (a comment that Johnson makes just about every week), Blackford said it wasn`t true. He said Johnson had stopped the tradition of briefing leaders of the major opposition parties on key events and that he`d only attended one meeting in Downing St since Johnson had been elected.

From the Beeb 15 minutes ago .. the smell of schoite is getting stronger :-
There is confusion over when Sue Gray`s report into No 10 lockdown parties will be published after a statement from the police on their investigation.
The Met said on Friday it had asked for "minimal reference" in the report to events they are investigating to avoid prejudicing its inquiries.
Many in the Cabinet Office, where Ms Gray is based, were taken by surprise by the Met`s statement, sources say.
The report was due to be sent to Downing Street this week.
There`s More :-
So we don`t yet know when we`ll see the Gray report after the police asked for some details to be kept out of it.
But some legal figures are questioning why publishing the report would prejudice a police probe.
Adam Wagner, a human rights barrister who`s an expert on Covid rules, asks: "How would a factual civil service report about events the police is investigating `prejudice` their investigation?"
He suggests this whole situation could have been avoided "if police had done the sensible thing" and begun investigating in December.
Nazir Afzal, a former chief Crown prosecutor, makes a similar point on Twitter, saying: "This is absolute nonsense from the Met Police.
"A purely factual report by Sue Gray cannot possibly prejudice a police investigation."

Now the redacted/gutted report has now been published we can expect the following clichés to ring round the Mother of Parliaments.
‘inadvertently misled the House, which I deeply regret’
‘lessons have been learned’
‘new robust procedures to be put in place’
‘time to draw a line under the whole affair and move on’
Interesting that Grey`s report highlights the gross overmanning (a 1970s term of abuse by Tories) of the government apparatus at number 10 Downing Street. What happened to the promise to cut back on the number of civil servants? (a 1980s Tory promise that is wheeled out at every election) Or value for money? (one of Thatcher`s favourite slogans)

BBC Reality Check has examined Boris Johnson`s claim that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile when he was director of public prosecutions (DPP) and has found no evidence that Sir Keir was involved at any point in the decision not to charge Savile.
The Labour leader called Mr Johnson`s comments a "ridiculous slur" and they have been criticised by the Commons Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle.
Boris Johnson "stands by" his comments, according to the prime minister`s official spokesperson, who declined to repeat them.
Mr Johnson had said that Sir Keir "spent most of his time [as DPP] prosecuting journalists and failing to prosecute Jimmy Savile"
.
He made the unfounded claim, which has been discredited before, in the House of Commons where "parliamentary privilege" gives MPs certain legal protections over what they say.

Its only a matter of time for Boris the Brave but at least he has saved Ukraine :-))
Four senior aides to Boris Johnson have resigned from Downing Street within hours of each other amid growing pressure on the prime minister.
Director of communications Jack Doyle confirmed his exit shortly after the departure of policy head Munira Mirza.
They were followed by the chief of staff Dan Rosenfield and senior civil servant Martin Reynolds.
The top aides` resignations come as Mr Johnson faces increasing questions over his leadership from within his party.
And a 5th this morning!

Speaks Volumes, without apportioning blame or mentioning Boris the Brave :-
The Queen`s commitment to "doing the right thing" in sitting alone at Prince Philip`s funeral has been praised by the Archbishop of Canterbury as a defining example of her sense of duty.
Speaking ahead of the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne on 6 February, Justin Welby said she showed "duty, leadership and character".
He described her Christian faith as "the rock on which she stands".
On Sunday she becomes the first British monarch to mark a Platinum Jubilee.
In an interview with the BBC, the archbishop said the Queen had committed herself to a life of duty and public service.
Leadership
"The clearest moment for me, the absolute summit of that, was that at the funeral of her husband of 70-something years, she sat alone.
"That was leadership, it was doing the right thing, it was duty, it set an example," said the archbishop, who officiated at the funeral, which observed Covid restrictions in place at the time.

Why does it have to be about the Queen? There were thousands of people who went through the same thing under much more difficult circumstances and it stinks to high heaven that the Palace is using this as a way to distract us and garner sympathy at a time when her son is up in court facing accusations of raping a sex slave.

Because people know the Queen and know that photo better than Doris from Barnsley.
But you`re right that it`s not just the Queen. Thousands weren`t able to see loved ones whilst these bellends were having a jolly. To make matters worse they are the ones supposed to be dealing with the pandemic!

This is why though.
Decade upon decade of fluff designed to present them as sympathetic characters in a bad Shakespeare play. We need to stop, it`s embarrassing.

Again, lots of people did that.
Many of them didn`t bestow meaningless military ranks on their slave-raping offspring.
The royal family is NOT a positive example against which to compare Boris Johnston in my view, there are a hundred wee grannies in Paisley who are more deserving of that role. Folk who did exactly what she did but did it in poverty and actually, truly, alone.
And does anybody actually think that the Archbishop just happened to, or would be allowed to, say that off his own back?

I think your missing the point.
It doesn`t matter that it`s the Queen. If it was Gary Barlow or Maureen Lipman the statement would be much the same. The image was someone the nation knows and is familiar with.
Boris Johnson is showing the world what most Scots already knew - never, ever trust a Tory.

Just randomly happened to be the Queen?
My point is that there is a reason why the Queen is recognisable ( the constant fluff stories about how wonderful she is) and it shouldn`t be the case.

I`m guessing you don`t like the Queen but that`s irrelevant here (I`ve no time for the royals either).

Well there ye go He`s not a Clown after all :-
Boris Johnson told his new director of communications Guto Harri "I will survive", by singing him the lines from the Gloria Gaynor song as he appointed him to the post.
Mr Harri was hired after a string of resignations from No 10 amid turmoil over parties held during lockdowns.
The aide told a Welsh language magazine he saw the PM on Friday afternoon.
He also said his new boss was "not a complete clown, he`s a very likeable character".
Mr Harri told the Welsh language website Golwg 360 that after exchanging lines from Gloria Gaynor`s 1970s hit, and "a lot of laughing", he and Mr Johnson "sat down to have a serious discussion about how to get the government back on track and how we move forward".

Also emerging this morning Boris the Braves new PR Guto Harri the guy Boris was singing to had been lobbying ministers not to ban Huawei
He used a 2020 meeting with Sir Eddie Lister to ask which ministers to “nudge” on behalf of his client, documents show.
It would appear the Goodies are leaving and Boris is replacing them with Baddies

Apparently Johnson has torn a strip off his new comms director, Guto Harri, for telling the media he wasn`t `a complete clown`. Harri has said that in future he won`t be talking `on the record`. That`s a novel approach for a communications director.

His days are numbered already wee eck The corruption and sleaze continues :-
Boris Johnson is facing questions over his support for a company that employed Guto Harri, his new communications chief, after it emerged the firm signed a £150m deal in Downing Street with the endorsement of the prime minister.
Harri, a former adviser to Johnson when he was London mayor, was a director of Hydro Industries when he accompanied a team from the water technology firm to No 10 in February 2020.
While they were in Downing Street, a press release from Hydro Industries revealed they signed a £150m deal with an Egyptian gas company and were provided with a supportive quote by the prime minister, with Johnson saying it was “exactly the type of contract in the post-Brexit era that showcases the best of UK industry”.
The Hydro Industries team also attended a St David’s Day reception at No 10 that day, where the chief executive spoke to Johnson directly. Tweeting a picture of the team and Harri in Downing Street, the firm said: “Grateful for the PM’s support and encouragement.

"Stepping down just before she was fired"
In fairness, she should have resigned 16 years ago after ordering to shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes. It says a lot about policing in this countey that she was promoted instead. More than once.

The promotion of Cressida Dick after the Stockwell shooting debacle is par for the course. She allowed statements about Menezes which were known to be false out into the media in an exercise of damage limitation. This willingness to create a fog around the truth was coupled with a longer term policy to smear the victim (Menezes was wrongly accused of sexual assault and of being an illegal resident) and to brief sympathetic journalists. An unfavourable journalist was arrested in respect of the Stockwell inquiry but although no charges were brought the intent to intimidate was obvious. A photo of Menezes was doctored, emails destroyed and CCTV footage allegedly unavailable.
Dick should have been arrested for improper conduct in a public office, same as those senior officers who oversaw Bloody Sunday and the Hillsboro disaster. Instead, they were promoted. They can lie with impunity since the lie is to protect the status quo. Nothing will change with Dick’s resignation.

There ye go the new word for lying is misspoke :-)
In the House of Commons this afternoon, Boris Johnson was asked about whether Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire owner of Chelsea Football Club in England, would be facing sanctions.
The prime minister replied that “Abramovich is already facing sanctions”.
Labour MP Chris Bryant later told MPs: “I don’t think Abramovich has been sanctioned”.
Mr Abramovich is not listed on the searchable database provided by the UK Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation.
The prime minister`s official spokesman later told reporters Johnson "misspoke" when he told the Commons that Abramovich was facing sanctions.
