I must say I`m surprised that kind of stuff can be published while the police investigation into the SNP`s finances is ongoing. There`s an awful lot of supposition and allegation in there without hard facts to back it up.

The latest `evidence` the media have latched on to is a video of Nicola Sturgeon in March 2021 dismissing concerns about the party`s finances. The inference seems to be that this adds to the suspicion that things weren`t as they should be. However, I`ve seen no mention in the media that the accounts to 31 December 2021 were issued in June 2022 and showed the party had net assets of £610k. The assets included motor vehicles at a written down value of £80k. Could this be the infamous motor home removed by police from Peter Murrell`s mother`s home in Dunfermline? There is also disclosure of `loans from executive management` of £107,620 of which £47,620 had been repaid, although there is no specific disclosure that this was from Peter Murrell as has subsequently become clear.

The point is that the auditors must have been aware of these transactions and saw no reason to qualify their report regarding them. The auditors also agreed with the National Treasurer`s assessment that the Party was in a position to continue as a going concern for a period ending at least 12 months from the date the accounts were approved i.e. until 30 June 2023. (to be continued)

cont.

Why haven`t the auditors been asked why they resigned or whether they had any inkling of the misappropriation of funds? Maybe they have been asked but refused to answer but why not say so?

Isn`t it odd that, despite all this `evidence` being drip-fed by the media the police are apparently still not in a position to press charges after looking into this for two years?

I don`t know if I`m missing something but this doesn`t feel like a very big deal in comparison to other scandals. I know it *should* be a big deal but this feels quite tame.

The Scottish Tories and Scottish Labour are demanding that Nicola Sturgeon be suspended as an MSP on the strength of that video. Based on what the SNP`s published accounts showed for 2020 and 2021 it would appear her assessment of the state of their finances at that time was accurate. Why haven`t the media picked up on that?

I think it`s because only twelve months later her husband had to give, from his and only his funds mind absolutely nothing to do with his wife, a loan of over 100k to the party.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Strange that they`re struggling to find replacement auditors . That said previous auditors have to forward a report on the clients behaviour.

A loan doesn`t change the net asset position but it would improve the liquidity if his terms for repayment were better than, say, a bank`s. The party would have fought the Holyrood elections in 2021:would they not so it`s not surprising that liquidity might be low by 31/12.

It`s not surprising to me that accountants might be reluctant to take on the audit of an organisation`s accounts whilst a police investigation into its financial affairs is going on.

The opposition parties will make capital out of the situation the nuSNP find theirselfs in, let`s face it losing 50,000+ members indicates something may be wrong.
If she has any integrity and is innocent of any wrongdoing she should maybe for the benefit of the party do what Alex Salmond done.

Re the last paragraph, the police did indeed interview complainants over the last 2 years but weren`t given authority to speak to the suspects until early February this year, hence why allegedly all the resignations .

Did whoever gave them authority to speak to the suspects also give them authority to turn the Murrells` back garden into a crime scene?

Is it normal to erect a tent in the garden when searching a house? These pictures went all around the world.

Was there a tent in the garden ?

There was a tent on the driveway which the police reversed a vehicle into each of the mornings which was speculated to allow the movement of individuals and evidence.

Sorry Buddy but not the slightest bit interested in another countries politics.

Just wish everyone interested in independence for Scotland had been paying attention over this last 8 year`s.

Tenruh, I seem to recall you suggesting Police Scotland delayed the full force of their investigation until after NS resigned to suit her agenda. That really doesn`t sit well with the way they have behaved since and now the timing of Colin Beattie`s arrest isn`t exactly ideal for Yousaf. I was just pointing out that events can be twisted however you want to suit a particular conspiracy theory.

Thanks for the pic of the tent in the garden though.

Any mention of Independence in Humza's speech yesterday?

Nope.
It was as stirring as a recipe for porridge. The highlight was him referring to Keir Sarwar..

Edit: oops, Tam Gordon in the Herald says Humza mentioned Indy. Once.

Also worth a mention - DRS postponed till March 2024, Westminster’s fault natch.
Alcohol advertising bill kicked into even longer grass, and something about
“Green” fishing which will annoy the Greens, but probably not enough to break up their coalition pact and give up their ministerial posts and fat salaries …

Colin Beattie has resigned as SNP treasurer after his arrest as part of a police investigation into the party`s finances.

He said he would also be stepping back from his role on the public audit committee until the police investigation had concluded.

The 71-year-old was taken into custody and released without charge on Tuesday.

It came hours before First Minister Humza Yousaf set out his government`s priorities for the next three years.

In a statement, Mr Beattie said he had resigned as treasurer with "immediate effect".
