The Proclaimers will travel up from their Kent homes to perform “Cap in Hand” at Alex Salmond’s memorial service in St Giles cathedral. Another excruciating pro Indy dirge.
But will they get they fly /get the train up or walk five hundred miles heh heh

Respect and Parboiled are two words that don`t go hand in hand.
He`ll be telling us next he`s been up to take a slash on Alex Salmond`s grave

Surely your not an expat if you live in England though as we are all part of “Great” Britain?

Good point Dave though I do like the idea of Parboiled having to refer to himself as an expat.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Well if the Proclaimers are expats because they were born in Scotland but live in England then surely the reverse applies to someone born in England but living in Scotland?
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

I refuse to use the term expats. They are immigrants

‘Cap in Hand’ has the lyric:
‘I can understand why Stranraer lie so lowly - they could save a lot of points by signing Hibs’ goalie.’
Salmond was a Jambo, so hopefully they change those lyrics.

Would rather listen to a cat get boiled alive that listen to that pair "sing"
Sean Connery was one. Loved telling people how amazing Scotland was......from his house in Spain.
Legend of a man though to be fair.

What about the great British patriots who have left to live elsewhere at some time, usually to avoid paying UK tax? Mick Jagger, Michael Caine, Lewis Hamilton and various sportsmen spring to mind. And don't forget Rod Stewart. He may support Celtic and Scotland but he has no allegiance to Scottish independence.
What a reflection on the Unionists that a thread like this is triggered by a Remembrance Service for Alex Salmond.

I think Michael Caine is the only of those 4 that was pro-Brexit.

Does supporting the Scotland football team mean you have to swear allegiance to Scottish independence?

`I think Michael Caine is the only of those 4 that was pro-Brexit.`
Who mentioned Brexit? All these guys left their beloved Britain to avoid paying tax here. Isn`t Sir Jim Ratcliffe another one?
`Does supporting the Scotland football team mean you have to swear allegiance to Scottish independence?`
No. Rod Stewart is a Brit rather than a Nat but he spent a long time living in the States.
I don`t know why the Reid twins live in Kent but I doubt it`s to avoid the slightly higher rate of tax on high earners in Scotland. I presume Andy Murray lives in London because it makes sense for an international tennis player to be close to an airport with direct links to cities all over the world. Some choose to live in a tax haven but he didn`t.

I would say it should. I don`t think you should be allowed to follow Scotland in any sport if you don`t support Scottish Independence. They can follow england if they want. If you don`t support Scottish Independence then you can`t honestly, hand on heart, call yourself Scottish in my opinion.
If you don`t support Scottish Independence then you are british (which is really just english)

I wonder what would happen to support for independence if entry to tournaments like the football and rugby World Cups was restricted to countries which, say, qualify for membership of the United Nations?

Well, international football and rugby were invented by Scotland and England 70 odd years before the United Nations was founded. So clearly you don’t have to be a UN member to be a football/rugby nation. See also West Indies cricket.
I love the idea of Red Star checking punters’ political allegiances at the turnstiles though. Not sinister at all.

I wonder what would happen if all of our national bodies just merged into one of Great Britain - do you think the Welsh and Northern Irish would be happy with that too? Maybe it’s the right route to take for Scottish teams to be more successful…..

If we don’t want to have our own independent country then we should not really have our own football team or rugby team. If the majority of Scots feel more British than Scottish then we should forfeit that right…..Go Team GB !
Look at the positives……We will win more, and we will get to sing GSTK….What’s not to like ? Heck we can go full hog and dress up in chain mail and sign about German Bombers too.
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.
