It`s returning on illegal entrant for one who is a genuine asylum claim. At the rate proposed it covers 1 in 17 of the current levels, so is a start but makes little difference on its own.
The government strategy is to softly show to the migrants that they are not welcome through illegal routes and hope that makes them decide not to bother trying.
Which wasn`t the feedback from those trying multiple times on Radio 4...it`ll make no difference amd they`ll keep trying.
What`s not clear to me is if the numbers relating to legitimate claims are in addition to what`s going on, or simply a politically acceptable way for Macron to manage it within France.
What was also notable was that over the past year or so we have moved from "this is illegal migration and we can use EU law to send them back" to "it isn`t actually illegal, it`s perfectly legal" to "actually they have already arrived from a safe country and therefore this is illegal".
What a mess.
One final point...it seemed that a lot of the approach discussed today appeared to be for young males to come over first with the expectation that they would then bring their families afterwards. This might help calm those worried about the invasion of "single young men of fighting age".

Jake most of the major car manufacturers, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Honda have plants in the USA. I`m fact America is the second biggest manufacturer of cars in the world so I think they have quite the pedigree when it comes to car manufacturing.
Dave, although America restarted their weapon deliveries last week I fear what this major announcement regarding Russia that Trump is going to make tomorrow will be. He`s in trouble with his maga base with the Epstein scandal and throwing Ukraine to the wolves will placate that unsavoury demographic.
Zelensky is undoubtedly a man of courage and integrity. When the Russian shock troops were preparing their final assault on Kyiv, Zelensky was offered safe haven in the US but he turned it down. Instead he broadcast from the streets of Kyiv. Had he not done there is every chance that Ukrainian resistance would have floundered. I mean if your leader isn`t willing to make a stand why would you? No the Russian forces would have steamrollered through the rest of Ukraine, a few massacres later and it would have all been done and dusted. Sham elections would have been held, a Russian puppet government installed, Kremlin announces the will of the Ukrainian people has been expressed and can`t we all just get along again? Zelensky`s character and conviction stopped all that and that`s why for many he is hated. Of course there is a more sinister reason why he`s hated.

They only make particular models in the US and the last I checked Honda was Japanese! All of the companies mentioned still build the majority of their engines in Germany or countries around it (except electric engines).
It`s not just cars though. Imagined he scenario. Trump declares he`s putting big tarrifs on the importing of potatoes to support Great American farmers. Cool. That sounds great. But it takes time to up the supply and you`re talking about a guy who changes his mind on tarrifs every few weeks. Do you invest in prepping more land to grow potatoes and risk that he changes his mind and you`re stuck with millions of spuds? Same applies to moving or increasing manufacturing of things US citizens need. You can`t just flick a switch.

Honda is indeed Japanese as is Toyota. I believe Hyundai and Kia are Korean. Stellantis is US/Italian I guess. Point being they are all major car manufacturers and they all have at a very minimum huge assembly plants in the US. The US know how to build cars was the greater point I was making. Your case against Trump`s tarriffs is spot on but your case against the American car industry not making good vehicles is outdated.

My first comment on that was debunking your source.
I watched the video and realised the guy knows SFA about Akrotiri.
The points I made are still 100% accurate. There are no facilities to store missiles at Akrotiri.
There have never been British spy planes based there.
It`s not a vast airfield. The operational area is relatively small. The base is large due to the wilderness it has as a whole.
He`s probably right about special forces being there for hostage rescue.
I`ve watched the clip again and he guesses at the role the alleged 129 Americans based there play.
He`s totally wrong. I know exactly what they do. U2 could also know their role, considering I`ve stated there are no British spy planes at Akrotiri. 🙃
None of what he says in the video is true, apart from special forces moving through there when going on missions in the middle east. But that`s just logic. And I agreed with that at the time.

The points you`ve tried to make about the Ukraine war are straight from Russian state TV and certain telegram channels. Pretty much word for word. Sammer did the same before and the two of you have simply made an erse of it. Ukraine have fought an incredible defensive campaign and severely embarrassed Putin and Russia. Meanwhile, the Kremlin have only succeeded in destroying their economy and reinvigorating NATO`s European members. The reality is a far cry from what you claim.
Having seen how China operates first hand and having also good friends who are involved in media (both western and local) in HK, it just amazes me how you seem to take everything that the likes of China and Russia say at face value and claim that everyone else bar yourself is brainwash. Especially when you claim to have an illustrious background in the media. When you go to the Chinese Mainland, have a look around and see all the cameras, see all the propaganda posters and adverts and perhaps take a look at the difference between the English and Chinese language versions of different Chinese Media and Government websites. If you do this properly then your romanticised views of dictatorships should come crashing down and it`ll be quite obvious who the "deluded fool" is.
Honestly, just stop simping for dictators.

Well over a million Ukrainians and Russians have died unnecessarily since the US and UK stopped Zelenskyy from signing a peace agreement in Istanbul a fortnight or so after the Russian invasion began. Despite some early success for the Ukrainians and the ill-advised incursion into Kursk, the war has overwhelmingly been going in the other direction, to the extent that now Ukraine is likely to surrender large swathes of the country when a settlement eventually occurs.
Yes, I have been saying Russia has won this war for the best part of two years, and that is the truth. That has been the view of numerous military observers worldwide. The problem is that the UK, US and northern European media have been toeing the line, trotting out a procession of politicians and military spokesmen spouting mistruths, their pockets overflowing with gold gifted to them by the military-industrial complex.
Zelenskyy is no different. I don`t doubt his bravery in the early stages of the war, but like so many others, it appears that the process has corrupted him.
There are numerous sources I could quote, and none of them are Russian.
However, to suggest a place for you to look beyond the mainstream, I recommend tuning in to the podcasts by American Judge Andrew Napolitano, called `Judging Freedom`. He interviews a range of interesting experts who often offer fresh perspectives on these global events. They can be found on YouTube, Spotify, and other platforms.

Regarding Ukraine, I refer you to my comments to Dave 1885. To be quite serious, I have never used Telegram. I have seen you reference it before, but it is not something I use. I have plenty of alternative sources. I have explained my methodology to you several times before. I use translation apps quite regularly.
For example, if a story is about Iran, in addition to checking Iranian sources, I will also look at what`s being said in neighbouring countries, such as Saudi Arabia (Al Arabiya) and Qatar (Al Jazeera).
And the same with China. I would examine what is being said on the subject in Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong.

The Shadow R1 aircraft is based at RAF Waddington, NOT Akrotiri. So they are lying about that.
Lets give them benefit of the doubt and assume they are just ignorant, so have the terminology wrong.
14 Squadron are currently detached with the specific task off gathering information on the location of hostages.
They are not assisting Israel in any intelligence gathering on anything else.
The USAF fly U2`s out of Akrotiri and they are assisting Israel with information on Hamas locations. Surely if you want to minimise civilians being killed you want Israel to have accurate information on Hamas targets? Or do you long for more civilian deaths for your propaganda?
