 Brutal knife attack in Belfast
Topic Originator: Hoolie
Date:   Wed 10 Jun 20:50

Where does this stop now? It’s happening in all major cities accross Europe.
Why can’t our government protect their own people in this country?
Why should we have to put up with this..imagine an immigrant trying to cut one of our families heads off in the street..but wait a call for peace..if that was my son with one eye and his face sliced to shred with a knife you better arrest me! This government is a shambles and it’s about time they look after the people of Britain.

My question would be around the vetting of who is let in. We know people smugglers advise people to toss passports etc. so what happens when they process someone? How do they determine if someone is here legitimately AND that they`re suitable to be given the freedom to roam the streets? In this case the guy flew here with a passport so the agencies knew exactly who he was and gave him a visa. What actual checks were done?

Dear Sudan. This bloke has turned up here. Is he a nutter?

*Radio silence*

Ah, just let him in.

There is no way to get a reliable response from a failed state. Home Office advise against all travel, but anybody from there can come in. Some perverse logic.

Here is a question..what does the government do with the influx of immigrants coming in with no passport/any ID?
They say send them back but to where? If they have no ID then where do they go?
They will just spend their time here scrounging off us paying our taxes that should go to developing the country we live in.
There has to be a time where we all say “enough is enough” no way can we live like this.

I think the offshore processing had some merit in that regard.

It was a very expensive hammer that may not have cracked that nut.

Staying in the EU may have helped.

That’s the problem..how do you deal with an illegal immigrant who dumped all their ID coming in a boat and has found his way staying in a hotel in Britain?
Where do we send them back to? The answer is we can’t so we are stuck with them.

2015, 11 years ago.

The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems.

When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you (He points to someone in the crowd). They’re not sending you (points to another). They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

It`s not that Trump was some great prognosticator, he just did not have the same sensibilities of the politicians who knew what he was saying was true but thought actually saying it was electoral suicide.

Turnberry got taken off the Open roster when he said that all those years ago, along with other performative outrage.

You`ll deny it up and down, you have to, it`s Trump after all, but you are all saying the same now.

And this is the issue. If you are undocumented, you shouldn`t be released until thorough checks are done. What this suggests is I could commit a load of murders, travel to France, come back on a boat and be like "My name is Bob Smith. I am from Sudan." and they`d have to take my word for it. Suddenly I have a new identity and no criminal record.

Trumps example was poor. The Mexicans he was referring to were ones working illegally. They hadn`t been processed. They just turn up and take cash in hand jobs where they can. They weren`t legally living in the country under an assumed name.

Quite obvious is it not?

Blood sample, DNA test, Facial recognition photograph and Fingerprint them. If they refuse to or cannot provide ID then ban them from the country for life, even for tourists purposes. If it happens to be a recurring theme among certain nationalities, then withdrawal of access to visas needs to be implemented.

Should be fairly easy to legislate in principle and I so think that`s the way it`s going with the rise of Reform. A lot of countries, the US and Australia included, seem to ban people from entering if they have committed a crime. Surely crossing a border illegally should count as a criminal offence?

As I`ve said previously, I never really cared about immigration until I moved to Sweden and saw the damage that certain groups do to the system. Somalis were particularly bad for it over there, as were Moroccans and Tunisians and it seems to be a recurring theme with them elsewhere.

Indeed - a different scenario.

Mexicans have been entering the USA via the southern border states for over a century - the so called "wetbacks" who could cross the Rio Grande relatively easily at some points.

How do you identify someone from a country that doesn`t share records though? I agree with your point but it`s not as black and white as that, which is why the system is being abused.

That`s them set up roadblocks in Belfast. It`s like going back 30 years.

where is the outrage for the 30 white women killed by white men in Northern Ireland since 2020? It`s selective outrage, yes what was done was f'ing horrific and people should rightly be outraged and angry. But there has been no outrage, or protests for these mothers, daughters, sisters all killed by their own.

Another weekend of unrest awaits no doubt.

I have no idea how we have any chance of rounding up folk who may now be identified as not having sufficient right to be here.

Wouldn`t it be strange if it comes out that some of these people have been chucked money to intentionally do something unlawful to generate these issues.

Surely when an arrest is made in a case like the Burnley one, a description could be given to make it clearer and avoid misinformation?

GB News report (the only one I can find) just mentions a 30 year old arrested. Can be construed in any way possible, apart from a man attacking a female.

This was the problem that kicked all this off.

They can do what they want, but if not sharing it simply creates a void that folk fill, then it is best they just share everything and deal with that. Even if that is uncomfortable.

The focus needs to be on this not happening in the first place. And teaching people to react appropriately.

2 days prior to it a school in the area was locked down as a pupil went about attacking folk with a knife. A Sikh teacher stepped in to stop it continuing. Cant find any coverage of it anywhere on the main outlets though 🤷🏻‍♂️

I`m sure if someone reviewed the data, knife crime may be higher among minority groups, but then it only takes one to do something to skew the data as there are so few of them.

No knife crime should be tolerated regardless of who committed the crime. Given integration is often pointed out as a problem, why aren`t their education courses for newcomers to make clear the key issues around the treatment of women and girls? To be honest, most men in the UK could benefit from such a course as I`m still astounded how some men act about women.

jake, I don`t get why the assumption is that a low population suddenly explains a higher than average figure for a minority group..... all other things being equal, should there not be an equal and opposite number of outliers in the other direction?

I think the better comparison is knife crime in country x vs knife crime in country y.

Quite simple really.

The higher the number of candidates, the more accurate the figure is. If there`s 1 Scotsman in Zimbabwe and he is arrested for shoplifting, that means 100% of Scots in Zimbabwe are shoplifters.

My point is..... if 1 in 100 Zimbabweans are shoplifters, why don`t we ever hear the arguments about Scottish people never shoplifting because 0 out of 2 of Scots in Zimbabwe shoplift, but always give them the benefit of the doubt when 50% of them get caught?

The key, and broad, statement here is "all other things being equal". As I think a lot of those factors removed (e.g. language barriers, access to work etc) are actually big issues in the real world, so those policies are inviting trouble.

I would also argue that most of the longitudinal studies perhaps don`t reflect the actual factors we face just now (such as amount of immigration and lack of opportunities for the population even before the additional competition from those from abroad for housing, services and employment).

Because Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

The media in this country likes to stoke the fire of hatred. Gets more clicks on their websites. Makes more stories for them to write.

The poor representation and use of data goes in both directions though.

I agree that the media (and others) don`t help, and sometimes intentionally so.

But that should make folk on the other side of the argument who point this out more careful about lasy characterisation and shoving their heads in the sand.

We clearly have a problem and don`t have enough accountability for letting in other nation`s problems without appropriate controls. The politicians tell us enough that their number 1 job is to keep the people of this country safe. I do not think they have done a good enough job on that in this case.

Who`s normalising things?

It was a local 23 year old white man who appears to be in the frame for the rape in Arbroath btw.

That was last week, the one being spoken about above reportedly happened at the weekend and the claim about who was involved has reportedly come from a member of the public who intervened.

The key thing about it all is that ethnicity shouldn’t matter, what should is catching the alleged criminals and discovering the full truth on the matters.

Still waiting on Tommy 10 names etc protests though regarding the 23 year old or the two white male child killers from yesterday….

Ah I get your point there Jake.
I probably don’t say this the right way but in a normal country say Scotland we are policed and conduct ourselves in a normal manner. Of course there will be nutjobs/drugs etc but the police are there to deal with it….problem is there has been an influx of migrants(they come to find jobs and integrate within our society) but there is the illegals who are hanging about causing tension in local communities..

Very sad news, especially after the recent case with the life sentence for that youth.

I find it hard to understand why some humans believe it is a good idea to carry a knife and use it on another human.

Another example of how white men are being let down by society blah blah blah.

Its not whataboutery. It’s calling out hypocrites that pick and choose to suit their agenda. Where are Rupert and Nigel today?

Calling out whataboutery with whataboutery and using whataboutery as evidence of it not being whataboutery?

It`s flagging the delight some people seem to have when a brown person does something bad.

It seems to be a running theme given Pochin`s smirk while discussing VAWG. They`re a bunch of shysters.

This has only become a whataboutery thread because for some unknown reason the crime of hacking away at people who may have looked like possibly being Muslim with a blade by a white man didn`t warrant getting its own thread started. In fact I`ve heard very little on the news about this , certainly in comparison to if it had been a brown skinned man hacking away at people he thought were Christians.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

It’s just more whataboutery though

Why in my opinion hasn’t this stabbing had more news coverage than that stabbing?

And let’s be honest, it’s always slanted the way that causes the most outrage.

The issue to me is the stabbing in the first place.

I also think the motivations behind the stabbings (especially the Edinburgh and Belfast ones) are basically moronic. You can’t look at a video of a boy running up and down the street topless with a knife and think that guys of sound mind. Same as watching someone trying to behead someone with a Stanley knife. He’s obviously wired up wrong.

Both individuals need dealt with but both cases are being politicised by basically every politician and political commentator and it’s not achieving anything. It’s just noise.

The Edinburgh stabbing is arguably worse - he made his way from Broomhouse (where he stabbed 2 men post evening prayers) to Crewe Toll (where he attacked a taxi), on to ferry Road (where he flipped shelves in the BP) then onto Leith Walk where he caused carnage attacking 3 more men.

Where were the police in all this? It took place over a half hour period throughout the city…..worrying knowing I was in those areas a couple of hours later working on my own.

It was a fairly big area he covered but I`m pretty sure there`s still an police station at Gayfield.

It`s interesting how the different stabbings have been reported.

Theres the old police college at Fettes, which is now a station…..right smack bang in the middle of it all and 30 seconds from the 2 petrol stations 😂 also one on Ferry Road in Drylaw….

Want a better police force? Need to drop the net zero and DEI stuff while also increasing their funding.

Right now all they can do is cherry pick low hanging fruits.

Steal something from a shop - get away with it.

Say something slightly controversial that may or may not breach the online safety act 2023 or the Hate crime and Public order (Scotland) act 2021 and there’s a fair chance someone will chap your door.

They already had the Communications Act 2003 but the 2 mentioned previously make things much less transparent and much easier to use.

Net zero is £75k for 2 charging stations at a police station that didn’t have any electric vehicles or any room in the budget to buy vehicles. I can’t tell you where or how I know but that’s what it was.

BTW £75k is ridiculous for charging stations but the demands for H&S, documentation, sign offs and design changes total up to £75k

Im all for looking after the planet, cutting down on pollution but net zero in reality isn’t what it’s been sold as.

So that £75k does 2 charging stations for what? Life? Unless, of course, they get damaged/need repaired.

That £75k would get you 2 officers for a year - just. Or one officer for 2 years. Don’t think a couple of charging ports are the issue tbh.

Yeah, cos net zero spending stopped at £75k…

Put it this way, most Friday nights in Dunfermline there’s 1 squad of police on duty.

1 squad = 2 police in 1 car.

£75k for two charging stations suggests crap procurement by Police Scotland if that`s the correct price. Imagine it costs more for commercial ones, but residential ones are under a grand to install. If all stations were to have two, presumably there are economies of scale?

From what I can see online the cost should have been closer to £40k but Police Scotland run a fleet of Hyundai Kona`s so need to charge them somewhere.

Each station procures for its own needs. Doesn’t work at scale because the install and infrastructure are different at each station.

Also add in the costs for CDM and associated regs plus H&S and you get £75k for 2 chargers.

Apparently it’s all in the name of sustainability.

The double standards are shocking.

I think it’s the same throughout Europe/the west at the minute.

The only reason I can find is they’re simply chasing a GDP number so they can borrow more at a lower rate - basically kicking the financial can down the road a little further. Each kick gets heavier though.

Add on top things like celebrating the shutting down of Grangemouth as a great moment for “Green” something or other and then having to import the same amount of materials from elsewhere.

It’s like selling of the last of your heavy industry to a country who doesn’t manufacture to the same environmental standards then shipping it back on diesel powered vehicles and celebrating that the UK now creates less C02.

Like we’re literally running a country by cliches and wondering how our living standards and earnings are going backwards.

The World Cup in the USA might just give some folk an insight into how far behind them we are. Hampden, Celtic park and Ibrox look about 30 year behind them IMO

That’s a braindead argument right there.

Yes there are murderers and rapists that already live here. Does that justify importing more?

You do realise for every illegal we put up in a hotel we reduce our capacity for helping someone that needs help?

Jeffrey Archer? I must have missed that, I thought it was only his books that were murder.

Having said that he was absolutely livid with me when I spoke to him on the phone about 20 odd years ago. I never liked the man, and I was in a bad mood when he called into my work. I was being pleasant enough but calling him MISTER Archer, when he was demanding to be called by his proper title. He was even more raging when I said thought he had been stripped of his title when he went to jail for perjury in his hooker case, haha

Denmark (near Roskilde) with a side of apartment in Kaunus, Lithuania.

Hang on, who exactly celebrated the closing of Grangemouth?

Saying celebrating like they done it publicly might be an exaggeration but you can’t campaign on closing the oil industry then claim to be devastated when the oil industry moves away.

That’s a braindead argument right there.

Yes there are murderers and rapists that already live here. Does that justify importing more?

You do realise for every illegal we put up in a hotel we reduce our capacity for helping someone that needs help?

Who said I was game for putting illegal immigrants in hotels? 🤔

Im just highlighting the wild hypocrisy thats all. Cant blame it all on immigrants, when theres plenty of examples of British Nationals doing the same, if not worse.

It’s not hypocritical though.

Like your boss moaning at you for being late then being late consistently themselves is hypocritical.

Murder by a citizen is already illegal and is punished. Hypocrisy would be not punishing a citizen for murder but punishing an immigrant.

I don’t understand the need to let the absolute dregs of someone else’s society become our problem?

Genuinely, real asylum seekers don’t turn up without documents, ID, passports. They make it known who they are because their identity and where they come from proves their need for asylum.

An interesting statement on one of the BBC news radio programmes the other day.....

- Britain is now seen by immigrants as an extra shot at getting asylum (after being rejected by Europe)
- that`s what`s driving a lot of the increase in France

And the most worrying bit.......

- they were more likely to be accepted by the UK than the EU.

I hadn`t realised the third point was accurate.

The World Cup in the USA might just give some folk an insight into how far behind them we are. Hampden, Celtic park and Ibrox look about 30 year behind them IMO

Clear from that that you’re not out here, they are imprisoned by their cars - pretty stadiums with zero infrastructure to get in and out and hours upon hours to travel in and out. Makes getting to Hampden look like 22nd century thinking. Even just getting around Miami is turgidly slow with 3.5 mile journeys taking nearly half an hour in a taxi.

I can relate to that.

Gillette stadium is not in Boston. It’s 24 miles from there and 18 miles from Providence.

For the first game some of my family went by train from Boston. Cost $80 return.
They arrived at South station five hours before kick off. There were thousands already queuing in front of them.
It took the best part of an hour and a half in the heat and humidity to get on a train. There was one working toilet on the train!

I travelled by car with pre booked parking near the stadium. There is only one direction on Route 1 that the police would allow access towards the stadium. If you were driving south on Route 1 you had to go a further 5 miles to the next intersection to travel north. All side roads were blocked. It took us an hour and a half in traffic to cover the last mile to our parking place.

Then we all had to join the throng queuing to get through three gates to join another queue to go through airport security style screening.

The whole experience was both chaotic and frustrating. Not good for young families or elderly people.

Fortunately the experience at the second game was much better.

Yes the stadiums are modern but the stands reach high into the sky so players look like dots. That’s why they have huge screens at both ends of the stadium. Makes watching from behind the goals at Hamdump a treat!

I`ll never tire of asking this - what checks are done on immigrants? Clearly it`s hard to process people who have "lost" their documents but why aren`t they held for observation and assessment to determine their mental health? It`s not like this is new. We`ve had various parties and even more PMs in power yet none seem to have resolved this obvious issue.

Though worth highlighting that this is a minority of people but one incident is too many regardless of faith or ethnicity.

Tbh, I think we`re getting to the point where we need to be like:

"You`ve lost your documents?"
Fingerprints, DNA test and banned for life for illegal entry and an agreement between all European states to fund the database and detention centres.

"Don`t want to reveal your home state?"
Life in an offshore detention centre or deportation to your home state, your call.

I really get the sense in both Scotland and Sweden that people are sick of this whole situation and it`s really gonna create societal issues if there isn`t a proper crackdown. Sweden has seriously tightened up its citizenship requirements - when I naturalized I didn`t have to do a Swedish language test (although I had taken the national Gymnasium/High School exam and passed) which I thought was an absolute joke - and there seems to be a net decline in the "refugee" population and asylum applications. Denmark has seen the same and I reckon Finland and Norway will follow suit. A lot of focus on Somalis in Finland atm and the cost - was something like it takes 238 Finnish working years on average (i.e. the net economic contribution to the Finnish economy of 1 Finn year ca. €4k) to fund a lifetime`s benefits for one Somali - the figure was like €950k. Just nuts.

As an aside, as a Swedish Citizen, I can legally move to any other Nordic Union state and ask for citizenship after 2 years of residence there, no strings attached. I`m wondering if there will be a crackdown on that considering the disparity in the numbers of migrants between Sweden and the other NU states.

Where would an offshore processing plant be? I can`t imagine any of the UK islands agreeing to that. Plus what would be considered legit ID? Could it simply switch to traffickers moving into illegal papers?

Yeah genuinely, we’ve got to take a hard line on illegal immigration. Denmark went one way and seems to be getting a lot of things right whereas Sweden went the other and has managed to get itself wrapped up in an ongoing gang/drug war. We’re lucky that’s not arrived here.

If they can’t get in legally, they can’t get in would be my policy. There’s usually reasons they can’t get in legally.

Tories botched the Rwanda’s thing. They didn’t have the proper infrastructure and legal system in place. They shot themselves in the foot and looked foolish in the process.

Anything that states legal nationality would be considered legal ID, but most likely passport. Very difficult to properly so a fraudulent passport these days from what I gather.

In terms of detention centres, there is probably somewhere in the collective European territories with the seabed at a level where you could create an artificial island a-la Kansai or Hong Kong Airport. Create it as a collective European project with each country responsible for a portion of the construction and maintenance costs. (I can see the Poles objecting to this though as they haven`t let any in in the first place!) Use the crappy Chinese kit buildings to keep the costs down and conditions to the point where it actually acts as a deterrent. Could even have a rotating military deployment to staff the thing. Just an idea, but can imagine it would be feasible with enough collective will from European states.

Pretty sure the Danes actually did something like this fairly recently, but I could be wrong.

But but but… there’s always a but…

They always come from war torn countries or are gay or are only children/u18 etc etc etc

They always give an excuse for why they can’t be rejected.

Let’s not forget that the likelihood is they’ve traveled past if not through Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania and Poland. None of which are war torn…

English tends to be a more universal language though. People certainly aren`t coming here for a quality of life!

So what happens if I throw away all my ID and stowaway on a boat to Amsterdam? How do they identify me? Even if I can be identified, how do they know if I`m a risk to the public or not? We might keep thorough records in the UK, but I can`t imagine Iran is keeping tabs of people in that way. Not publicly anyway.

It would need to be a case of "No ID? You`ll be kept under observation until we determine who you are and that you are of no risk."

Just more excuses to allow organised crime. It’s totally irresponsible not to have a strong border because it does fuel organised crime.

They’re not even trying to hide it anymore either, Turkish barbers, vape shops, kebab/takeaways etc.

We are doing a disservice to people that run those types of businesses legitimately by allowing that to happen.

I often think journalists have a big part of play in the amount of political issues we have.

In the same way I feel the same about lawyers and justice.

I suspect the police aren`t looking into a lot of this now as it would just lead to long legal cases that would probably be lost.

And the change in policing to stop walking the beat.

I think Channel 4 and BBC News teams are probably doing more on the investigative fronts..... or at least l, that`s what it feels like.

So where do they get sent to? I`m not disagreeing but the issue is someone is effectively undocumented so who would take them?

The key thing for me is to discourage non-genuine or questionable individuals from even attempting to enter the UK. The Tories tried this with the Rwanda but that was daft, just a timid copy of what the Australians have done. The better solution would be to continue to process people in the UK but be clear that genuine cases will be waved through but anyone questionable will be held until they can be identified as genuine and not a threat.

The whole information sharing thing is a bit of a tightrope. Having had family that have been involved in counter-terrorism policing, the average Joe would be REALLY surprised at how much stuff they actually prevent. And to do this, they need to be able to operate with a certain degree of secrecy. Some of the stories I`ve heard on this kinda subject are pretty stomach-churning and they`ve put me firmly in the camp of "If you`ve nothing to hide, then you`ve nothing to fear".

As a Swedish citizen, I genuinely believe that, regardless of which party is in power, the Police and other authorities will do their best to prevent such incidents and protect citizens. In Scotland, I would say pretty much the same, but I would really distrust the British Government when it comes to political interfering as they quite obviously spy on the pro-Independence parties, as well as meddling in other nations affairs in a way that Sweden does not.

I don’t trust the Scottish government more than Westminster. I don’t trust either. Both have documented cases of reasons to not trust them. Both try and shut down things that could be damaging to them.

I genuinely believe the majority of police officers are doing their best. They do not have the proper funding and they’re totally hampered by crazy policy and political influences north and south of the border.

It’s not an argument of left v right anymore. It suits politicians that folk argue about left v right. It doesn’t suite them when we look for evidence of competence, honesty and integrity.

Information sharing is somewhat amusing to me. People want personalised services but don`t like the government knowing their business. Right now Tesco and Netflix know more about you than any government. What Alphabet and Meta know about you is probably horrifying. People don`t seem to mind about billionaires having their data though. It`s bizarre.

Government doesn’t want to sell you something and have it sent to your door next day delivery. Big companies literally want to make money from you.

The government want to go through your online posts to see if you’ve said anything they don’t like and know what comes and goes into your bank account in case they can find something they can tax you on or see if you’re buying something they think you shouldn’t.

There’s a bit of a difference.

if your daft enough to attend a racist demo and daft enough to set fire to yourself i guess 40months inside isnt really a big thing
https://www.psni.police.uk/latest-news/man-19-sentenced-court-following-ballymena-disorder

A sentence was handed down by Antrim Crown Court on Monday, 6th July, in connection with disorder in Ballymena in June 2025.

Nineteen-year-old Michael Elliot was sentenced to 40 months, with 20 months to be spent in custody and the remaining 20 months on licence, after he was convicted of common law riot.

Elliot, from the Ballymena area, was arrested after he was identified as having participated in serious disorder in Ballymena on Tuesday, 10th June 2025.

Detective Inspector Gallagher said: “In shameful scenes, there was large-scale disorder by people intent on causing harm. Damage was caused to roads, homes, cars and local business premises with people left fearing for their lives.

“Our officers came under attack and many left injured after petrol bombs, heavy masonry and fireworks were thrown at them.

“At the time, we assured the public that we will work tirelessly to restore calm and ensure that anyone who chooses to take part in this criminality is brought to justice.

“Our dedicated investigation team has worked tirelessly to ensure that those involved are prosecuted – today’s sentencing is one of many over this disorder.

“We would also repeat our appeal to anyone who has been the victim of, or has any information on, any crime to contact police on 101, or 999 in an emergency. We can assure you that we will always act on concerns and information we receive.”

Alternatively, a report can be submitted online using the non-emergency reporting form https://reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals Should you wish to make a report anonymously, you can do so by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org

More useful at dealing with the seagull population than the government/local councillors!

Seagulls are a pest, a vermin and their numbers are wildly out of control. Should be actively shot from the skies.

There is a video of a woman catching a seagull from someone`s garden. Impossible to tell what her intentions were but it does seem more likely she was helping it rather than killing it as the seagull was in an unusual place and she didn`t seem to have to do much to catch it.

Something like ten rapes? Can`t you be bothered to be more specific about such a serious heniois crime? I mean you`d only have to look back the past fortnight to find the stories about these `something like ten` sexual assaults. Anyways if you could give something like ten links to stories/articles in the past fortnight that would be appreciated. If true it deserves to be highlighted and definitely warrants discussion about a wave of violence against women in our biggest city.

Multiple videos on multiple platforms and it’s not just seagulls. BBC’s RSPB/RSPCA programme famously showed migrants that were cooking swans-they got away with it tho - carcasses in the bin and meat in a boiling pot wasn’t enough evidence.

Glasgow gets on average 39 a month so around 10 rapes in a week 🤷🏻‍♂️ the maths kinda work. Of course not all those rapes will be from illegal migrants but illegal migrants tend to try and grab girls off the streets and that’s causing a problem. Not to mention the police releasing them on bail to their housing association flats in the most deprived areas of the country. Recipe for disaster.

But yes locally people are talking about an uptake in “migrant” SA. The fact there’s a couple of hotels in the city centre that’s been occupied isn’t helping. They tend to hang around the streets in small groups during the day. Really doesn’t help

Dandy/NMC, where are you getting your data from?

The first ten minutes of this

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002wjlc?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

suggests that the data is hard to get a hold of, but I`m not sure if the Scottish justice system does a better job at capturing the relevant data (not sure why it isn`t properly recorded).

The report below suggests age and sex are much more important factors, which might be a better guide on how we should adjust our immigration policy to keep our communities safer.

<https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/commentaries/migrant-convictions-and-prison-population/#:~:text=Non%2Dcitizens%20are%20overrepresented%20among,and%20Wales%20differ%20by%20nationality.>

Read the wrong way, it could also suggest that getting rid of Brits might be the best thing we could do.....

I couldn`t find stuff with that regularity, that was all Dandy.

Overall, I`m not sure that the level of crime from immigrants is higher. In fact, I think it is actually lower. With more data I`m sure we could find elements of immigrants that we definitely do not want on our shores.

I do think you and others make absolutely valid points. I had a surgeon who was not long here from Iran who saved my life. I`m more than happy for us to admit folk like him into the country as he has got the right papers, and is here to do good.

I definitely don`t want us taking on problems from other countries because we are too soft to make tough decisions.

These are complex issues, which need nuanced solutions and the whole debate about one extreme or the other extreme being 100% correct isn`t helping anybody. I`m pretty sure if we looked at the number of sexual offences either alleged or charged in the last 12 months that the percentage caused by white British males as a category would be pretty high up the list.

What about the ones who come here to work and rape people? If you break this down into the simple and undeniable truth that rape is wrong then you apply that to EVERYONE regardless of age, faith, gender or skin colour. The issue is that we`re seeing a higher proportion of sex attacks coming from minority groups. While not wishing to tar everyone with the same brush, it`s basic facts and people shouldn`t feel they can`t say it. However, people also shouldn`t stereotype and assume every South Asian or African is a rapist in the same way people shouldn`t assume every man is a rapist. There`s been a poor guy in Glasgow chased out a park with his family because people assumed he was a paedo because he was of South Asian descent. The guy is born and raised in Glasgow and was there with his kids!

In the same way we ask men to call out poor behaviour of other men, we need people in minority communities to call out poor behaviour. Being from a different culture isn`t an excuse for rape or violence against women and girls.

At the same time, the Government needs to seriously look at how they`re vetting who is being allowed into the country. I was reading last week that the BBC exposed the most prolific people trafficker in Europe was running a shop in England and the police STILL haven`t caught him. He`s here under a false name. I`ve visions of a guy wearing a fake moustache and glasses!

East Asia = China, Taiwan, the Koreas, Japan, and Mongolia. Are you sure that`s what you mean?

These days, I suppose it is easy to become confused.

Perhaps you mean `West Asia`, which we used to call the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, and the Near East.

Ahhhh... SOUTH Asia. In other words, what we used to call the Indian Subcontinent... principally, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri-Lanka, Nepal, and Afghanistan.

Be careful not to confuse it with SOUTHEAST Asia, a very different part of the world.

Not to worry though, the Jewish community getting another 250 million in policing, that`ll help.

I just done a simple search and got the numbers I got back.

That was totals tho so no breakdown on identity.

I’m not anti-immigration. I’m anti illegal-immigration and given our current rules and climate amongst the population I really think we need to take a hard line on illegal migration. I don’t think we can just allow anyone to claim anything without any ability or proof otherwise. Prove you’re an asylum seeker (especially if they’ve arrived on a boat with 40other guys all who seemingly look in their 20’s) and then we’ll help.

The way we treat them when they’re here is unfair on them and unfair on the locals.

Having weak policies on border controls and a welfare system that’s easy to game makes us attractive to people who won’t bring anything to the table.

I really think we’ve got it all erse for elbows

I think it`s come about because in the UK we say "Asian" to mean Pakistan and India mainly. In the US "Asian" is more China/Japan/Korea. Thus we end up with East Asia and South Asia when probably in 90% of cases we mean Pakistani and Chinese.

I’d never belittle rape but I don’t know how you can compare it to recent protests.

The Belfast protests were after someone was nearly decapitated in the street and the ones down south were after a girls party was attacked with 3 girls murdered, 8 girls hospitalised and 2 adults seriously injured.

We obviously have crimes here but how that can be equated to justify illegal immigration I just don’t know.

And btw there’s been gangs chasing nonces for years. Happened round the corner from us about 20 years ago when it came out someone got arrested for child stuff on his laptop. They were right out into his garden, banging his door. He’d already done a runner otherwise they’d probably have killed him.

You referenced two horrendous crimes though that weren`t committed by illegal immigrants. In fact the Southport scumbag was a UK citizen. He was born, raised and schooled here.

I referenced the last crimes that had major protests. Both of them heinous for different reasons but I wouldn’t call either perpetrator a loyal British citizen. 1 may have been born here but his actions are evidence for themselves.

Hadi Alodid filled out an online questionnaire to gain ‘asylum status’. If thats not a breakdown in a system that leads to a horrendous outcome that might actually be worth protesting about-I don’t know what is.

You spoke for yourself earlier, that was about you. Then it was my turn and I offered my inference from what you said, which was absolutely about me because it was my opinion.

I didn`t imagine you`d to like it which means that, alongside your difficulty with engaging in sincere discussion, I should really forgive the petulant ad hominem.

You’ve reverted to saying something about white supremacy because that’s all you’ve got. You’re not realising I’m the one who married a migrant and socialises with people from St Lucia and Zimbabwe.

Other posters put actual thought and intelligence into their response. Whether we have the same view points or are challenging each others view-I actually respect their opinions and I’m happy to engage in their ideas, change my own ideas if I think they have a good point.

Your replies show off exactly what you are. Just another idiot on the internet.

The problem NCM is your clumsy statements. First of all you inferred the Southport attacker was an illegal migrant when he wasn`t. When it was pointed out that he was a British citizen, born and bred, you went for the angle of, yeah but he`s not a loyal British citizen. Ok not really sure what you mean by that. He`s a psychotic scumbag just like Thomas Hamilton or Michael Ryan or Derrick Bird were but I don`t ever remember anyone ever describe those evil losers as not being loyal British citizen. It`s an unusual turn of phrase for describing a mentally deranged lunatic.

I never said he was illegal.

Dave’s point was that there’s only protests against certain groups and he’s saying it hypocritical. My point is it’s not really hypocritical because questions really do need to be asked about the migration process, policing standards amongst other things that have allowed both events to occur. I’m also saying folk have been ganging up at the doors of nonces as long as I knew about it.

And folk do like to use the saying that he was a Welsh choir boy and he was British and all that. He may well have a British passport but by evidence of his actions that he was found guilty of in court, he was British only in paper. Not because what he done was terrible but because of the ideology he chose to follow. “loyal” is a pretty broad term however, in the context that he’s actively engaged with ISIS, Islamic extremism and by extension (as that’s the overall goal for radical Islam - world dominance) the collapse of the west, I used the term “loyal British citizen”. Hamilton, Ryan and Bird all committed heinous acts but their motives certainly weren’t anything to do with Islam or the fall of the west.

I understand all 4 obviously have or had mental health issues but their motives are individual to each.

It’s also very telling you’d want to highlight Southport and not Belfast because what led up to the Belfast attack is much more daming on the current state of immigration affairs into the UK.

You were clearly inferring the Southport attacker was an illegal migrant because you linked that atrocity to illegal migration. Now you`ll say you quoted that case because it provoked public disorder and violence like the Belfast attack also did but only one was committed by an illegal migrant however what linked both perpetrators was the colour of their skin and that was the point Dave was making. White person commits atrocity and it`s crickets , black person does it and it`s a failure of government.

No I didn’t infer it. I thought given it’s common knowledge he’s a British passport holder and that the riots were largely around immigration I wouldn’t have to explain that to you.

Yeah I know what Dave’s saying but Dave’s wrong IMO. It’s not about Race. It is about immigration, acceptance of radical Islam, policing standards, free speech etc

the closest you’ve got to giving any evidence against that is by trying to put words in my mouth.

Honestly, playing the racism card as you guys are doing will just switch people off. Claiming that people are racist for having concerns about Immigration and Islam in particular is what is pushing people toward voting for Reform, AFD, Sverigedemokraterna, DPP etc and we`re seeing that all across Western Europe...Denmark and Austria have governments now that could be considered "far right".

Funnily enough, Denmark has seen a marked reduction in crime since they tightened up their immigration stance. I never particularly cared about Immigration until I moved to Sweden as an immigrant and saw the crime that certain groups - North Africans and Somalis in particular - were involved in in Malmö. The synagogue in Malmö, which was built for the Jews Sweden took in back in the late 30s, is regularly firebombed and has bulletproof glass, electromagnetic doors etc. Could that perhaps be because a lot of the Islamic migrants that come in are uneducated and/or brainwashed and can`t/don`t distinguish between Zionist & Jew? I think we all know the answer there.

There is a serious problem with people that think their magic eeijit in the sky is on a higher tier than the judiciary of the land in which we live. That goes for Zionists, Evangelicals and Islamists...but it`s most definitely a more prominent issue among Muslims. The difference is that in Scotland (and in a number of countries in Europe) we are now majority non-religious. In Japan, Thai, Nepalese and Filipinos have integrated pretty well into the society, despite the difficulty of the language, yet there is Friction with the Malaysians and Indonesians because they are demanding mosques and cemeteries be constructed...and the Japanese are telling them where to go. Could that contrast perhaps be due to a problem with a certain ideology?

Yes we can argue it isn`t quite that simple as in Sweden (and in other places), Bosniak and Persian Muslims along with Kurds have integrated pretty well but it really doesn`t help to ignore the elephant in the room.

Frankly, we shouldn`t be letting folk in that have archaic beliefs that don`t align with our secularist, pro-gay and gender equal country. *Cue "thought police" comments* It`s just a bit sad how many folk believe in these crazy abrahamic mythologies with all the technology and things that we have!

It`s not a question of outrage over skin colour, so why portray it as such?

Sikhs in the UK largely come from Punjab in India. Prior to the Nowak case recently, there were only a handful of serious crimes and the crime rate is much lower than among Pakistani or Bangladeshi immigrants. And, pardon me, but they do have similar ethnic origins and thus similar appearances.

Last I checked, Muslims, Christians and Jews had a variety of skin colours...The Talmud, Bible and Quran all classify women as second class, which is incompatible with our secular and equalist society. And there is no question that this attitude is more prevalent and prominent among Muslims, but you will find it among devout Christians and Jews as well. Kate Forbes and her homophobia should be an example quite close to home of how religious brainwashing can pollute the mind. This is a problem with ideology.

There is a reason countries like the UK and Sweden do not track the ethnicity or religious affiliation of those who commit crimes...and its because certain groups are very over-represented.

Rape (and violence against elderly/vulnerable people) IMO should carry at least a 25 year sentence. If the offender is not a UK national then cancel any immigration status they have and boot them out. Yes, it costs more, but a firm stance needs to be taken. The cheapest alternative would a box of .22 ammunition or a rope but that`s been outlawed for quite some time.

According to Rape Crisis Scotland (who, let`s not kid ourselves, have a vested interest in the issue), reported in Nov 2025 that rape has increased 11% in Scotland since the same time in 2024. And also an increase of 25% over the previous 4 years. And that is only rape and not the other crimes that could be classified as sexual or violent assault.
https://www.rapecrisisscotland.org.uk/news/news/its-time-to-treat-this-like-the-emergency-that-it-is/

Nobody is saying that these crimes would not happen without immigration, but denying that they have become more frequent because of certain groups is absolute lunacy.

The thing that is very telling is that certain posters will simply withdraw when presented with reality...and then claim that others are racist or bigoted or whatever...some cultures don`t seek to co-exist but prefer to dominate and Evangelical Christianity, Zionist Judaism and Political Islam all fit into this category...why are so many prepared to pretend otherwise?

Who withdraws? 🤔

The reality is there are monsters in our society from all walks of life. Can we just not single out one group and call them all out? 🤔

It’s funny that it all leads back to religion too…..who would’ve thought it!

Who said it was a single group?

Dave, are you actually familiar with the gender inequality and misogyny that exists in the Talmud, Bible and Quran? Somehow I don`t think you`d be quite as flippant with that remark if you were!

Jake, that`s kind of irrelevant...if people are programmed with religion and misogyny at a young age, then it often tends to stick. And abandoning the religion often leads to complete ostracization, particularly in the case of Islam but not unheard of among very devout Christians and Jews. We shouldn`t be allowing people into the country that have these views.

Imagine being a Muslim in Palestine, jailed for throwing a stone or speaking out against oppression.

You are a noted surgeon, or an aid worker, or indeed a 12-year-old child who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You live in overcrowded, degrading conditions, are virtually starved for years inside—and, ironically, you have yet to be sentenced for a crime. Regularly, you and your colleagues are beaten violently and, worse still, raped by guards.

When someone films this obscenity and it is released, the perpetrators are correctly arrested. But there is no justice to be had. The nation is swiftly up in arms, protesting the arrests, and loudly justifying the rapes—so long as it is against others. The rapists become TV stars and are lauded.

Is it a religion that`s to blame here? Or is it a society so corrupted that all sense of morality is lost?

This is what happens when you allow hatred of a particular group—and it can be any group—to spread like wildfire. You reach a point of no return, and you discover that common law has no meaning.

Funnily enough Oz, even as someone who is also pro-Palestinian myself, your repeated utter refusal to acknowledge that Hamas is a terrorist organisation really just shows your bias on that one. Whether you can be defined as an anti-semite or not is another question but your hatred of Israel is at a "frothing at the mooth level" when really it should be directed at Bibi the butcher and Likud or Ben-Gvir and Smotrich. And if you really think that Hamas would be any more moral in government of Palestine than any of them are with Israel, then it`s delusion on a Trumpian level.

Just saying, but it might be nice to hear you speak out against the genocide in Ukraine perpetrated by Putin or the Uighur or Tibetan genocides at the hands of the CCP rather than this and the other guff you post from Douglas McGregor who is on record as claiming Russia was "too gentle" in 2022.

I don’t blame race, skin colour or nationality. I do blame the home office and the state of immigration laws and how we implement them. We need immigration as we’re a small country but we don’t need the dregs of another society. We’ve got enough dregs here to deal with.

Importing people who will add value financially and culturally is great.

Importing people who go on to rape, murder and cause general nuisance is more of a burden than it’s worth.

Which is why I keep asking how people are being vetted. If I come here on a boat and get sent to a hotel or wherever, what`s to stop me disappearing to go and work for my brother/sister who has gained residency? I`m undocumented, wandering the streets able to commit crimes and disappear.

In fields like social care where we.deaperately need people, what is being done to encourage unemployed people to undertake the training to do these roles? Surely it`s cheaper to offer benefits during training with the guarantee of a job at the end of it than to keep paying someone unemployment while importing someone from the Philippines who then brings their whole family over?

There aren`t legal routes for everyone. Only the likes of Ukraine and Afghanistan have legal routes.

I`m referring to people who have arrived here on a dingy and been picked up at the Border. What checks are being done before people are sent to hotels and b&bs?

Well that’s not quite right Jake. How do people who aren’t from Ukraine or Afghanistan emigrate to the UK legally?

You think we should Vet illegal migrants? Would the fact they arrived illegally be a positive or a negative in that scenario? Is it okay that we’ll take the time to look after them, put them up in hotels and pay for them while going through the vetting process? Should they not be redirected to somewhere else like their country of origin where they can join the queue to go through the current vetting process? Like all the legal migrants do?

We have specific routes for Ukraine and Afghanistan.

What you`re suggesting sounds similar to the Rwanda scheme, which was more an idle threat than anything. I`m questioning why we don`t have immigration centres in the UK where people live while being processed. They are then being held safely and securely meaning there`s no risk to the general public or to these people who are often at risk of being taken advantage of by organised crime.

Ukraine and Afghanistan aren’t the only places in the world we accept migrants from. There’s specific routes for everyone eligible.

I’m not suggesting anything, I extrapolated out what you were saying and just getting to its obvious questions.

You’d still be rewarding an illegal migrant who in all likelihood doesn’t meet the criteria for the legal migration route hence they’ve took the illegal path which btw is ridiculous considering how many legal migrants enter the UK every year. It’s not exactly a high bar to get over.

It’s not on us to save them from organised crime that they’ve willingly engaged with themselves.

From the Guardian -

`The public overestimate how many minority ethnic people are killers, as well as how many foreign national offenders there are, a new study has found.

The research from King’s College London tested knowledge and perceptions of crime at a time when radical right parties are trying to link offending to ethnicity and nationality to gain votes.

YouGov’s survey of 1,800 people in England and Wales found that people thought 55% of convicted killers were from an ethnic minority, when the real percentage is 35%.

They also thought just 45% of homicides were committed by white people, when the real figure is 64%.

Reform voters were furthest from the truth, believing 70% of killers were from ethnic minorities – 10% more than voters of any other party.`

Wow.... there are fewer than 35% people in the UK from ethnic minorities.

Strange for them to put such a strong message on it without stating other data to help the reader make a more informed conclusion.

Other data such as social status might have been a bit more helpful too.

I don’t think that 35% is quite the burn that the Guardian thinks it is, that is massive especially considering they are defined as a minority, so a minority committing over a third of killings is horrendous and absolutely something to be worried about regardless of whether people guess the right percentage or not.

I don’t accept the reasoning that we should accept murdering and raping by new people because people from here have done it already.

If that not the point of those statistics, what is the point of those statistics?

I accept even legal migrants will do some horrible crimes but at the very least they gained entry to the UK because they were bringing something (a skill set/knowledge base - whatever) and well, things go wrong and people do stuff they shouldn’t. We’ll deal with it when it happens. I don’t accept that we should just deal with it when it’s an illegal migrant. The question will always be-why was he/she even here?

Also worth noting that the beheader from Belfast got Asylum status by filling out a form rather than a face to face interview because the queue was too long.

My reference to the Guardian story was just an opening summary. Here`s the full article -

The academics who conducted the survey said feelings about levels of crime and who was to blame were a reflection of people’s emotions, rather than the facts.

Public estimates of foreign national offenders show why crime could be fertile ground for the far right. People surveyed thought foreign national offenders comprised 25% of the prison population, when the real figure is 12%. Respondents also overestimated the proportion of sexual offences committed by foreigners, believing it to be 30% when the real figure is 15%. Again Reform voters’ perceptions were the most wrong, with them believing 50% of sexual offences were by foreign nationals – 20% higher than those who told the survey they were Conservative supporters.

Prof Bobby Duffy, of King’s College, said: “There are two buckets of explanations for our misperceptions: how we think and what we’re told. On the former, it’s vital to recognise that misperceptions are partly driven by what we’re worried about. Cause and effect run in both directions, where we inflate the scale of an issue if it’s something we’re concerned about. Reform supporters’ higher concern about immigration and diversity … will mean they’re more likely to give attention and weight to things they see that fit with that view, including crimes being committed by those groups. On what we’re told, they’re also more likely to be seeing media, social media and political communications that emphasise those examples.”

The survey also showed that claims of two-tier justice – meaning ethnic minorities have an easier time – are talking hold, despite all the evidence being to the contrary. It found that 52% thought ethnic or religious minorities were sentenced differently for crimes, with 29% believing they got more lenient sentences, and 23% thinking they were sentenced more harshly.

Duffy said those who believed two-tier justice claims were more likely to question the system and call for radical change.

“This is important for trust and faith in the system, which is an issue particularly when it’s not justified by the reality,” he said. “We may end up taking actions that are not necessary or effective.”

Duffy also highlighted that respondents’ views coincided more with people their own age rather than their own ethnicity.

“For example, gen Z puts the white share of homicide convictions at 58%, whereas baby boomers put it at 35%. But white and non-white respondents give almost identical answers,” he said.

The survey also found that people overestimated the number of crime victims. The public’s median guess was 27%, far higher than the real figure of 9.7% who had personally experienced crime between 2024 and 2025.

Duffy said: “Our misperceptions are more of a general emotional reaction than careful study of the facts – we’re sending messages about what’s worrying us.`

I`ll just keep it simple, every other day there`s a report of a horrible rape or sexual assault by someone here illegally, it has to stop, we don`t even have enough room for our own rapists.
Some of these men come from countries where rape ir taking child brides is practically normal, it`s madness.

Mist recently an "Eritrean" man dragged an older man behind a church and raped him, we'll pay to keep the b*stard.

So gone from daily to almost daily? That`s the point the Guardian are making.

As you say, one rape is too many. If there is a particular group who seems to be causing more crime, that is something that needs looked into. It`s not racist if based on fact. This is why we see far more materials highlighting men as potential abusers rather than victims. It doesn`t mean men are all abusers, just that most abusers will be men.

It`s not a guide for `illegal immigrants`, it`s directed at all asylum seekers, and it doesn`t tell them `how not to rape`. That section is headed `Sex and Consent`. To describe them otherwise implies a certain political bias.

It seems quite sensible to make potential newcomers to a country familiar with the laws, culture and customs there. In fact, I`m surprised it hasn`t been the case before.

Im glad people have actually linked something at last! 😬

I agree with Jake in the main that the country needs proper immigration centres and processing units to process any asylum claims/“boat people” as quickly as possible.

The problem is the previous government f**ked it up that much that its going to take years to work out. But, of course, people expect answers and solutions within a week from MPs without actually thinking about the logistics of it.

I`ve not seen it officially reported but there`s been suggestion that Burnham wants to take in 4000 of the Morrocans who "invaded" Ceuta. As far as I`m aware we are in no way obligated to do this. Local reports suggest those who have stayed have caused a lot of problems for locals.

Is that a more dignified way of say "John on Facebook said....."?

I`ve not seen it officially reported but there`s been suggestion that Burnham wants to take in 4000 of the Morrocans who "invaded" Ceuta. As far as I`m aware we are in no way obligated to do this. Local reports suggest those who have stayed have caused a lot of problems for locals.

He kisses the wall, he`ll take as many as he`s told to.

It was trending on X yesterday. For clarity - no such suggestion has been made.

We had capacity for about 25/30,000 illegal immigrants over 7/8 centres.

Since we’ve actively been encouraging more through sh17 policies, it’s not enough.

So we started overpaying hoteliers to try and plug the gap but now that’s not enough so we are starting to spread to all areas of country buying up small B&B’s, HMO’s and everything else we can.

At some point you’ve got to say perhaps giving them free healthcare, food and accommodation isn’t working.

At the very least the Rwanda plan was a deterrent.
