Apparently Disney have work ongoing with a remake of the original Home Alone, a disaster waiting on what is a pretty classic christmas movie.
Begs the question, are there any remakes that have been better than the original and what have been the worst?

Remakes of Casino Royale, Oceans 11 and King Kong were all better than the originals IMO. Also, some of the modern takes on Batman are really good.

They are remaking the night at the museum films too and Disney might be able to a better job at that. With home along itâs going to be hard to get someone to match the iconic Kevin role, no doubt someone like Kevin hart will be one of the burglars.
Guessing with Disney now owning the fox rights there will likely be no more alien or predator films, yes all the recent ones have been pretty awful but thereâs still so much potential there.
With Disney setting up their own streaming service I canât imagine it will be long before they have withdrawn all content to their own platform and this includes marvel films etc. As usual it will be the consumer getting screwed.

The general consensus seems to be that Terminator 2 is a sequel.
Can't be a remake as so much of the first film is referenced in T2

This is from the original Scarface's wiki page:
After his death in 1976, filmmakers were able to gain access to the rights to Scarface which sparked the 1983 remake starring Al Pacino.[130] Though rare for a remake, the 1983 version was also critically acclaimed.
I think Scarface would qualify as a remake and I just saw while digging that up that it looks like it's being remade again.

Calling the Daniel Craig Casino Royale a remake is surely stretching things a bit? The only things in common with the first film of the same name are the title and a few characters names. Had they managed to make a film based on the novel they had the rights to as originally intended then fair enough, but the David Niven/Woody Allen/Orson Welles film is more of a parody than anything else.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a remake as well. Not seen the original but remember it being touted as a remake that was better than original when it came out.

All the Terminator movies have been sequels or reboots. The one being filmed right now is the sequel to T2 despite being the 6th(?) film in the franchise.

Thing to remember Jake is they arenât making it for you, especially with childrenâs films different generations watch movies through a different lense according to the sensibilities of the time. Kids today couldnât watch the original at the cinema itâs just so dated. Iâm sure when they remade Miracle on 42nd St from the B&Q version people said the same and they didnât do a bad job.
I think Iâve mellowed as new content doesnât replace the versions I hold dear
Couple others popped into my head;
IT the movie is far superior to the mini series (although itâs half told) and
TV made Manhunter into the vastly superior Hannibal and Westworld into Westword
Actually the makers wouldnât admit it but Terminator is to Westworld what 7 Samuarai is to the Magnificent 7

Still say you can't mess with these things successfully. You can take a rubbish film and redo it well. Or take a genuinely old film and modernise it. But Home Alone was a massive success and isnt that old.

The only classic that should never be remade is Jaws. It's rated highly by critics and audiences alike but for me that still doesn't do it justice. I suspect younger audiences can't see past the rather dated animtronics to the razor sharp script, perfectly developed characters, top drawer acting and incredible score. The very first summer blockbuster. They just don't make them like that anymore.

My favourite Christmas film is A Christmas Carol. It has been remade many many times. My favourite is the 1951 version, but most others are also good. Unfortunately they all have the same ending, personally I wish there was one where he kept his money.

"Mutiny On The Bounty" has had two remakes to my knowledge, all versions with top casts - each one was excellent.
Not sure why "True Grit" needed a remake, the original was (and still is) a classic.
I read somewhere that "The Battle of Britain" is in the frame for another version, likewise "The Dambusters" at some point.

A few Americans served in the RAF during the BoB, mostly KIA I believe - and one of 617's Lancasters on the Dambuster sortie was flown by an American, Joe McCarthy, a bit of a legend in the squadron.
Decorated by King George VI.
I doubt that's enough to get the Hollywood treatment though.

One film that I think deserves a remake - purely because it could really benefit from some of the new technology - is the 1972 classic sci-fi, Silent Running, that starred the brilliant Bruce Dern.
The film was made on a budget of $1 million which even back then was not a lot of money for a Hollywood production. Sometimes the low budget was in evidence, but the overall quality of the storyline and performances more than made up for that.
Other favourites of mine from that era were Midnight Cowboy, Soldier Blue and my all-time favourite movie, Little Big Man. However, they were all practically flawless and watching them today it is hard to imagine how they could be improved.

The Thing is miles ahead of the original,it's a John Carpenter masterpiece.
Cape fear isn't necessarily better but it's at least on par with the original.
I watched the remake of Flatliners last night and I enjoyed it but I can't remember the original so can't compare.
Dawn of the dead was an excellent representation of the original,and I'm a man who can't stand running zombies.
