From a book by David J Smith.
If all the wealth in the world - about £147 trillion - was represented by 100 coins...
* the richest 1% of the world's population would have 40 coins.
* 9% would have 45 coins
*40% would have 14 coins
* the poorest 50% would share the last remaining coin....
What a right fecked up old world we live in.

I believe you and I GG would be in the 9% category.

You think a retired teacher earns over £60k pa?

Oh I don't know how much a retired teacher makes. With a third of the world having to survive on about £1 per day I can only imagine where the average UK citizen would rank on the global scale. Somewhere at the top though. If you are making 60k pa then you will be not far off the top 2%. The actual super rich make up a fraction of the top 1%.

D'you think I don't feel guilty enough already, TOWK.
Europe's share of world wealth is 34% btw.
The good old US of A is 32%, with a much smaller population. Of course, the disparity between rich and poor there is totally off the scale.

New York, Hong Kong and Moscow. The 3 cities with the most billionaires. 10 years ago Moscow was way out on its own but many of their billionaires have moved elsewhere now.

According to Investopedia, in 2017 the top 10% of the world population earned on average $118,400. That's about five times my salary.
The top 0.1% skews the sums massively. A billion is a big number.
Edit and that's just wages, or salary, I don't think it includes bonuses or unearned wealth. The real story is in how this has shifted since 1979, with wealth share shifting sharply towards the top 0.1% of earners.
