Dave, as you know, the issue of whether politial discussion should take place on off topic or a separate politics forum is one that.s gone on for a while. The recent Covid stuff has shown quite effectively that for many issues, even where they are not overtly political, there is a political dimension and so specifying what topic goes where is not always straightforward.
Would you consider allowing forum members to decide which option they prefer? I know that in the past you.ve basically just said .no, it.s the rules., but if the majority who have an opinion one way or the other feel that the rule is wrong, surely there must be scope to change it. A simple thread on off topic asking people which option they prefer would do the job simply and effectively.

I did a poll on this very subject in 2018 on here... The overwhelming majority wanted politics in a different section.

About 90% of political topics get started in the politics forum but every now and again a political topic would probably have wide enough interest and be rare enough that the odd one could surely survive in the off topic forum despite the rules?
The US elections are going to impact pretty much everyone on the forum whether you like that fact or not. Seems a bit over zealous on the rules front to delete 3 threads rather than leave them.
If it goes back to the number of posts when the Indy and Brexit referendums were in full flow and there were a lot political posts on the off topic forum I could understand (and actually agreed with) the need to for the politics forum but surely a couple on the US elections were ok in off topic? If you didn't want to read them they were clearly marked and they aren't hard to avoid.

Off topic should include politics.
Lots of people are interested in it.
Shoving it off to the graveyard section is why this forum is slowly dying a death.

If lots of people are interested then why is the politics forum seen as a graveyard? Seems a bit of a Trumpism. Declares he's won but also declares fraud!

Because evidence suggests that lots of members only go to the football forum or off topic.
Politics forum is the DotNet equivalent of BBC 6.
I've seen politics posts on here that gain a lot of interest and comments but gets moved away and dies a death.
It kind of contradicts what a forum is all about.

Posting figures could be considered evidence but are meaningless without context. What evidence is there of people wanting politics content on off-topic? Perhaps it's simply a case that few people wish to engage on political topics?

Same as the TV/Movies/Music forum. Used to like seeing an occasional post on off topic about gigs in the town, or new series to watch.

I would be happy if it was all pulled back to just three forums - football, off topic and sticky. Everything else can be folded into off topic.
It was the randomness, the insanity of it all that made the off topic forum enjoyable and interesting in the past. Now we have too many cul-de-sacs that are rarely visited.

Off Topic is turning into a cross between an IT help-desk and a sole-trader recommendation service.

And let's be honest, most trades recommendations come from the friends and partners of the tradesperson...or PARrot because they're on Squealadeal 😂
