My company specialises in financial services stuff. Marketing, PR etc. During lockdown we've held a weekly video webinar thingy talking to well kent faces throughout the investment/advice sector. We're also big advocates of talking more about mental health issues as it's still a taboo subject (by and large) across the sector.

Anyway, I'm rambling, this week was a first for us in that we interviewed someone outside of Financial Services and it's our very own Eddie Martin. The live interview was a big success, Eddie is an absolute diamond, and we've just uploaded it to the YouTube.

So if you're interested in the subject of mental health and how to help friends and colleagues then this might be worth a wee watch.

I was doing not too bad mentally, but after being messed about with the amazon and feeling like I`m losing my kids(ex wife making it difficult to see them because she`s petty and lacking empathy) , its got me pretty low. I would love it if I went to sleep and didn`t wake up, but it won`t happen as life loves seeing me miserable.

Everybody else with any issues, try and keep your chins up during this horrid time of year.

F**k my life, I`ve always found living just too owerwhelming.

Luckily I can be honest on here as very few people know who I am.

Hi Kozmarightfoot, my name is Eddie Martin and the mental health ambassador for the football club. I am also a mental health first aid instructor as well as a mental health first aider.

I can see by reading your post that you could do with someone to talk to and someone who will listen. I am free to do this whenever you want to.

You have posted on the forum and my experience tells me that there are people on here who care for you and I am here to help.

Please give me a call on - 07919176330, or if you prefer I could give you a call if you could message me your number or email me eddie@dafc.co.uk

Hope you're feeling better soon, Kozma. I'm sure you'll get sorted at Amazon. If you're not already, make sure you're getting out for walks and taking vitamin D supplements.

Please ,please, please take up Eddie's offer. By being open and honest you have taken the first step, the next is to give Eddie a call, nothing to lose and everything to gain by talking it through. Good luck and there are plenty folk on here ( myself included) who are rooting for you. You are never alone.

Kozma you have taken the first and hardest step, please get in touch with Eddie, even if it just to talk over the phone.
I was in a bad place a couple of years ago and my Dr put me in touch with the guys at SAMH Going forth at the bottom of Woodmill road.

Thanks for the kind words but talking doesn`t really help me, I`m a lost cause existing in a world that I should be living in.

Anyway, there are people worse off and way more deserving of help than me.

Merry Christmas

I've been thinking about how you have been this week and checking this thread daily, I am pretty sure I'm not the only one who has been doing that.

Please Kozma give Eddie a call

Nobody`s a lost cause Kozma.

I spend my working life with folk who are told every day that they are useless, folk who fall into to addiction, violence and homelessness in an effort to block out their pain.

Talking is the only thing that really helps - forming trusting relationships is hugely important to us all and we can only do that by communicating our needs to people who give a s**t.

I was in a similar position until about eight years ago. It is absolutely horrible and I have empathy for what you are going through, however it is important to remember that the worst thing depression does to a person is that it steals their hope. I isolated myself because I thought that nobody wanted to deal with my crap, felt that I was unfixable and that I should stop trying. So I did, for about five years.

Then one day, for some mysterious reason, I decided to re-engage with my counselling and I met someone who I felt got me for the first time in my life. Perhaps it was just the first time I was being brutally honest but they helped me through what was causing my depression and, along with the right meds, I was able to see my life positively again.

I am the same person, with the same motivations and the same fears but I can see them clearly now, whereas before I was ruled by self-loathing and anxiety.

Please keep looking for the right person to talk to, it does honestly help.

Hi Kozma, my offer definitely still stands. It can be really difficult to take the first step and to take away any uncomfortable feelings you may have. I can phone, message or email you first, even if your details were passed onto me from a third party.

I have helped many people in distress or being in the point of crisis.

Kozma, no one is a lost cause, mate I couldn't leave the house at one point or communicate to such an extent that I would go three or four days with nowt to eat but a spoonful of mustard every 3 or 4 hours to trick my body into thinking it was eating....I got back from there and it all started with a talk, a wee chat.
Life is genuinely good for me now, please give it a try....it's really hard for sure but reach out, even if it's just to one person.

Hi Kozma,

Been going through stuff myself recently, struggling with adapting to fatherhood and moved out the marital home 9 months ago too to.try and get myself straight before moving forward.

What helps me is get yourself a safe place that you can release too, for example mine is the gym. Go to somewhere where nobody knows my story, less judgement and easier to be me.

Also speaking to people I wasn't close with helped, people outwith my initial circle(s) away from family and long term, close friends.

Last bit I use is a diary. Just write one word feelings down when they do hit and then once a week I'll look at it and can relate back to what happened when I felt, good, rubbish, anxious, lonely etc.

Not a professional by any means but happy to listen to anything mate, if its ranting, crying, shouting or anything else.

Stay safe, keep talking and sure all the folks on here will help too.

C'mon Ye Pars!

I’ve struggled for a few years with mental health problems. Hardest thing in the world was to admit it to anyone. Best thing I ever done was to got o the doctor. I got lucky. There was a men’s mental health group started in Aberdeen called ManChat. It saved mine and hundreds of guys lives. It’s a safe place where you can talk about your problems in confidence. Your not judged and everyone understands you better. If anyone is struggling I’d advice you to check the page out on Facebook. They give advice on how to deal with daily issues. There is also a confidential page where guys can post when they are feeling a bit down and get some advice from others. I’d love for anyone to read this and reach out to anyone they feel safe to do so about any issues. You may not feel it’s a big problem but if it’s bringing you down then it’s a huge problem.

One thing I don’t like about when people talk about mental health is the statement it’s ok not to be ok. It’s not ok at all. It shouldn’t be normalised. If your not ok then you should get the help and support you deserve.

I’m my own worst enemy with my own mental health. Suffered a brain injury as a teenager which completely changed who I am. Was on a downward spiral for years living a ridiculous lifestyle. Finally spoke to people and things got better. I had blips now and again but dealt with it better. Not happy with how i was i decided to develop a gambling problem which created huge issues in my life. Told those close to me it was under control but it wasn’t and with me keeping that to myself things are getting worse but I’ve made contact with the correct people and know when I speak about it openly and honestly things will improve again. 12 years I was adamant I couldn’t be helped and my life was pointless etc but speaking out does help. As hard as it may seem or as pointless your convinced it is just push yourself to make the first step in talking about it and gradually your way off thinking will change and hopefully create a better mindset for you to tackle the future. You will be surprised how many people do genuinely care. All the best.
