Apparently the cost to the public purse for a statue for the little old lady who resided in Buck House.
Do you think money laundering Cherlie should pay for it himself? He will still have change left over from his thoroughly (un) deserved £44 million pay rise…What did he get that for anyway?
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Utter waste of money. She fleeced the country for billions during her lifetime, so I suppose we should expect it to continue in death

I think the support towards the Royals is now waining in large parts of the UK. Folk starting to realise they are leeching off the rest of us.
Andrew once again embroiled in scandal, but the only issue this time round is Mummys not there to save the day and by all accounts Charlie doesn’t like him that much……

90% of people in Scotland did not give a fig about her or the rest of her dysfunctional family. They used to need “ rent a crowd “ when she came and went from Holyrood Palace.
Paying homage to the crooks is a decidedly English thing. Sure there are a few grovelling lackies north of the border but the vast majority of us see them for what they are..
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

It definitely isn`t a "decidedly English" thing. It`s rare I agree with Parboiled, but the Queen was always well regarded among people in Scotland, and not just the staunch ones.
However, the royals are much less relevant nowadays and I doubt Charles gets a second thought.
I`d suggest it`s fine to have a statue of a monarch who reined as long as she did, but not at such a ridiculous cost. I`d much rather a tribute to her rein came in the form of a new NHS hospital, and preferably not in London.

Who said it was a statue? It’s a memorial - it could be anything.

Desperado did. It`s the title of the thread 😉
Fair point though, it might be a mural or a piece of public art like Dunfermline`s infamous "stairway to nowhere". Regardless, spending upto £50m on this doesn`t feel right at a time where there are record levels of child poverty in England and the government can`t afford to help pensioners with heating their homes.

It never stopped them giving Cherlie a whopping £44 million pay rise so this will be a given too. One rule for the elites and another set for the plebs..

Maybe it will be one of those wee blue plates stuck on the front of houses where someone famous once lived. Perhaps a plate on the gate at Balmoral: "Her Maj used to holiday here."

She really was the last Royal that had any amount of respect from the Public.
Charlie and everything that’s happened with Diana
Andrew the nonce
The wee ginger one who ran away to America but still wanted his Royal family money
William 🥱 I don’t think he’s a bad guy or anything but it’s just no there.
£35 million for a statue is too much. Country is going through a tough time financially- we are slowly becoming a low wage economy but here we are, throwing money at the Royals

Parrot, did you read the criticisms of Charlie for the rent he takes from charities or the millions on rent for the empty prison?
His Ma also took that money.
Oh, and she paid off the victim of her paedophile son to shut her up.

The Royal family have the biggest private art collection in the world and take multi millions out of the public purse every year. But you`re quite sure she`d prefer to build homeless shelters and give nurses pay rises, despite never having done either in her decades long rule?

I`d seen it reported years ago that the queen of england had over 5,000,000 individual pieces of art. More recently this has been reported as over 1,000,000 pieces, so I`m not sure what`s happened to the rest of it. When you consider the collection includes thousands of originals by the likes of Vermeer, Canaletto, Rembrandt, Titian, Da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo (and possibly the other Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle), the value of the art that she keeps hoarded away from the public must be worth many billions alone.
I think the family`s true wealth is under reported, safely kept hidden off shore, like many other criminals do with the proceeds of crime.
To paraphrase Carnegie, the queen who dies rich, dies disgraced, and there must be no queen so shameful than elizabeth the second, queen of a nation where a quarter of kids live in poverty while she hid her wealth offshore and still sponged off the country

The people that work behind the scenes in the Royal family are around 150 personnel from the security to lawyers/accountants and directly paid to do their duties when needed 24hrs a day. If they say jump you say how high!
