Few risks in there. Hope Bene is fit.

Allan and Otoo in the middle could get run over very easily, big day for both of them.

Jakubiak needs a goal, fingers crossed it`s today!

Really don`t understand why Hamilton misses out. He is our best ball winning midfielder. Otoo is better suited at the back. Personally I would swap Breen and Hamilton. Thought Breen had one of his worst game for us last week. Only potential plus is that he seems to be much better with Bene next to him.

I`m guessing Summers still has an issue with his leg?

So no Summers…Not surprised really as McPakes pre match interview said he had a dead leg but should make it. I suspected then that he wouldn’t. Big miss.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

I don`t see the balance in that midfield, Hamilton or Chalmers should be in there. I think Otoo is better in the defence too, but hopefully we get the win

An untried midfield pairing is a big gamble and very worrying.

We are sadly lacking an experienced central midfielder at this level.

Rovers have Mullin, Stanton and Byrne……all proven at this level….

I fear the worst today but hoping that it being a Derby we will rise to the occasion and get something. Think we will need to score first though….

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Interested game for experiments but why not I guess. At least there’s some players on the bench who might affect the game if needed.

Can only think with this team we fancy something from a set peice.

Not sure it`s that experimental - Otoo has played there plenty of times, Allan is more experienced than folk think, they played together in the second half last week... Also, it`s virtually the same back five that played so well last season in front of Mehmet, Moffat is the obvious replacement for Summers and Jakubiak is probably a better option in this role than Wighton.

Anyway, promising start with us having the early chances or half chances perhaps then Raith coming back into it a little after 10-15 minutes. Good crowd in at both ends although obviously these fixtures bring out the idiots - not just the pyro etc but sadly heard some racist comments from a few rows behind (in conversation, not shouted at the players, but grim all the same).

Clinical as always. If we had anyone that could take a chance we would be no bad!

Much better performance so far, jakubiak decent at holding the ball up, laying it off. Does so much more work than wighton that’s for sure.

Both pass up easy chances, quite similar. If we had someone have decent we would be a few ahead in this.

Much more even second half, get the impression that if there is to be a winner it`ll be a moment of magic or an error somewhere. We`ve created a few decent openings today but the final pass or shot hadn`t been clinical enough so far. Dubrowski had made more saves but they`ve pretty much all bees straight at him.

Get a grip. We’ve just come off the back of two defeats, our last one was our worst performance for donkeys and we have key players injured or perhaps playing when not fully fit, against the team second top

Much improved than the last two weeks

It sounds like one of those games. We`ll have ones like this that end in our favour but we will really benefit from having injured players back.

I`ll be honest, I didn`t expect us to be in it today but we were arguably the better side. More shots, more shots on target, more possession. Question is how we didn`t get the all important goals.

We may be 3 off joint bottom but there`s also teams just above with games in hand.

An injury-time goal. Just our luck after what sounded like a much-improved performance on last week. Three losses on the trot are not good, and while I am far from wishing to be pessimistic, I think there are starting to be grounds for concern. We are, at best, a middle-of-the-league team on current form.

On a positive note, we seemed to start the stronger team but dropped off a bit once Bene was subbed. And three cheers for our fans today. They could be heard singing throughout the game, creating a fabulous atmosphere.

Defeat today was primarily down to bad luck. Again, our inability to score is costing us dearly.

Roll on Friday. We must win the next game.

Unfortunately we just haven`t got someone who can stick it in the net !
That is the difference today they take a chance we spurn ours , seems to be the norm these days
Yes we have players missing but it`s still not an excuse , and why does their goalie always seem to have an exceptional game against us ,?
We really need to turn this losing streak around !!
Didn`t expect anything today but if we take a chance or two it`s 3 points in the bag and only 3 points off Raith !
Oh well no use greeting about it nothing changes

At least we played better today but it`s hard to see the positives after 3 defeats in a row. So disappointing that we`ve not taken our chances yet again and it`s cost us, just like last week. I do agree that recruitment could have been better in the summer, especially when you see a player we had training with us for weeks score the winner for Caley today. Hopefully we`ve not shot outselves in the foot risking Bene as well. Really hope he`s ok for next week as he clearly makes the difference in defence.

Absolutely gutted, especially losing them who are now 9 points ahead of us when both games were close. Just shows what a difference it makes when you have players that can finish their chances at this level.

I`d say next week is a must win. We lose that and we could potentially be joint bottom (with games in hand) but we play Dundee Utd the week after...

Thing is, the Rovers arent exactly clinical either……their last 3 goals against us have come from midfielders nicking lucky goals/getting the bounce of the ball.

We should have won today, and dont want to apportion any blame on anyway - except the ref……f**k me how bad can you get?

Id say thats more down to the fact our defence has been ravaged with injuries in the last 2 months - all 3 of our starting CBs today have just come back from injuries - 2 of them out for 2 months each…

We released Todorov and O`Hara as deemed not good enough for this level. Not arguing with that but we renewed Wighton`s contract and signed Jabba. Are they any better? It would appear not. We still have a goalscoring problem. We need 10 chances to score 1. We are never going to lose a lot of goals but it`s painful watching this lot try to finish.

Very unlucky to not at least walk away with a draw nevermind a win today. The shooting from us was extremely poor and that`s what happens when you don`t take your chances at this level. Big improvement in terms of performance though (especially the first half)and the influence of Bene is clear.

I`m frustrated by the subs who imo had zero impact on the game and let down the guys who started, Hamilton the only real exception as I thought he strolled it for the most part. The passing became really loose we just lost our way. Absolutely crucial we get a win next week.

Based on what exactly? Boy has good strength but his first touch and ability to sort his feet are absolutely murder. He can’t beat an egg never mind his man and has no conviction in his shots. That’s based on what I saw today, not even mentioning last weeks sitter and a similar situation today where he wasn’t ready for the ball in their box and lost it. If I’m honest I’d rather have kept Todorov.

Must be watching a different game from me.

Back to goal, Jakubiak is very good. However, ball at his feet and he gave it away more often than not.

Todorov isn`t a world beater by any means, but he had an end product. Would have been happy seeing Todorov come on with 20 mins to go ahead of any of our strikers today.

I thought we played well. An unorthodox line up that worked surprisingly well in the FH. We shut the Rovers down quickly & didn’t let them play their passing game. As pointed out we need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

Thought Moffat was excellent he’s a grafter……..

I was quite worried before the game that we`d get a bit of a chasing. Never looked like happening. We`re all hurting just now but we`re not a bad team. Just need a spark from somewhere.

Next Friday is huge. Cannot afford to lose. Hopefully Bene is OK as we were fine first half and most of the 2nd.

Always sore to lose a game like that and especially frustrating today as it really looked like the game was dying out with neither team really looking threatening towards the end.

Good first half from us, first 25 mins especially. We did exactly what I moaned last week about us not doing - tried to be direct and aggressive and didn`t worry about just playing simple balls up the line, forcing them to defend and often giving us a shy or a scond ball in their half. It worked well and they didn`t look comfortable with it. Almost every ball up the line in the first half caused a problem while every cross-field ball got us nowhere. It `s always a concern when you don`t score while on top, and once again it just didn`t really fall our way.

McCann and Jakubiak both had a really good first half, and the concern was how long they`d both be able to last. McCann in particular was pretty intense and was always going to come off at some point. The second half was pretty even as they didn`t allow us the space we`d had in the first half and, although we were starting to tire and make more mistakes towards the end, they looked much the same.

I don`t think we got much from the ref today. No huge decisions but not much seemed to go our way. And it seems to be a theme that Lewis McCann has at least one completely ridiculous foul given against him for nothing, every single week.

I love football, mainly because of the occasional bursts of intense positive emotion it can give. But it doesn`t half hurt sometimes, when a big moment like that goes against you so late in a game. Last week we were awful and deserved nothing but today we were a bit unlucky. They all looked devastated to have lost like that and, although tough for them to take, that`s a good thing. Not much has really gone our way recently so hopefully a break that we`re due comes soon.

Jakubiak Back to the goal play is excellent. Everything else the jury’s out.

I get what you mean but excellent is stretching it. He seems to have quck feet and good balance. But as Lochgelly Albert said, he loses out almost every time to tries to take someone on. No end product. I`m far from convinced.

Can I have some therapy please!!!

We seem to be slagging the strikers, which may be fair but the best chance of the first half fell to Moffat and instead of trying to place the ball in the net, if he had put his laces through it we`d have been one up.

We have played 9 games and have scored on average a goal a game ! And conceded 10 goals
One third of our goals were against Morton! Another 2 against Queens Park
So I think we all know where the problem lays
We cannot keep blaming players injured for the lack of goals , the players in their place are just not taking chances when they get them ! Often down to a wee bit of composure ,
Looking at things it looks like whom we brought in are no better than what we let go ! But time will tell , doesn`t matter what league you are in a chance missed is exactly a chance missed! One thing for sure we certainly need to start putting the ball in the net or it`s going to be a long hard season ! One thing for sure is at present we couldn't buy a goal or score in a brothel

"We seem to be slagging the strikers, which may be fair"

it isnt fair when they arent missing the vast majority of the chances overall which in part is down to the system, today not sure what Jakubiak was trying late in the first half but cant think of another chance he or any of the strikers had? Moffat had 3, Comrie 3, Fisher in the first couple of minutes.

the likes of Todorov would not be a help in either open play or improving the conversion rate either.

Chalmers lost the game for us at the end....not Edwards for a ridiculous attempted pass across the park instead of going down the line? or the defending allowing Stanton to get turned and a free shot away?.

Does mcpake even know our best 11 anymore? Better performance today after dropping our regular midfield and striker. Mcpake needed to find experience to supplement the youngsters if we were to compete near the top this season and sadly we spent the summer sniffing about st Johnstone and Dundee reserves for those players and ended up with o’hallaron who has struggled. That and the debacle waiting for wotherspoon.

What team does he put for Friday? Chalmers and Hamilton in the middle or allan and otoo? Do we hope it’s a wighton good day or stick with Jak who has zero end product?

The settled team from last year seems a long way away and it’s not all down to injuries. Some of the players still here from the season we got relegated have yet to consistently show they can cut it at this level too.

I thought Allan and Otoo did pretty well today to be honest, haven`t seen anything from Chalmers or Hamilton in recent games to justify them being put back into the starting team. Just need to find a way of finishing chances and the wins will come.

I'd stick with the team that started today (although injuries may impact that) for next week.

"Chalmers lost the game for us at the end"

Of course he did and he knew it going by his reaction.

No doubt I`ll get criticism again but watching the game I thought Allan offered just as much as Chalmers does and also did the dirty things well - mopping up loose balls, taking a yellow card for the team when Raith were on a break, etc. When Chalmers came on, it was under difficult circumstances for sure, as he`d probably been expected to replace Allan rather than essentially replace Otoo who had to go back onto defence, but surely he should have adapted to that role. If he`d cleared it, been stronger in the tackle or just done anything then the mistakes that came before it wouldn`t have mattered.

Overall I`m not as angry as I was last week, so that`s something I guess. But we still look like we have strikers who are "a handful" but aren`t going to score many goals. Many of us were crying out for a striker in the summer and I know we aren`t too flush with cash (although the Nisbet money must have been an unexpected bonus) but we really should have done something there. Even taking an Arbroath style gamble on a National League South jobber would have got us excited and you never know, you might get a diamond in the rough.

Liked the back three, and it`s really unfortunate that just as it looked like we were going to go back to a settled defence Breen might be out now. I`d rather Otoo stayed in the midfield and felt he and Allan did well in the middle of the park and gave is a decent attacking platform. Edwards and Comrie were fine although Edwards really needs to work on his final ball. Moffat looked lively although tired, it`s a shame he was done as he lopped like he might be able to find something to open Raith up. McCann was a handful but I can`t decide if he`s better through the middle or the left and it looks like he`s trying to do too much - be the creator and the finisher - while Jakubiak did well enough without providing the cutting edge. I think if Breen doesn`t get injured we draw the game 0-0 and move on, but it`s just disappointing that Raith had so many injuries and round pegs in square holes yet not only did we fail to capitalise on that, but we contrived to lose the game.

Morton next week looks huge - lose that and we could be in all sorts of bother with United up next.

Kelty_par your right with most of your post !
And I am sure like many others here we all know we need a win against Morton to turn the tables of fortune!
And we can only do that if we take our chances and stop giving teams a goal of a start , this isn`t the first division now , there are teams here who have been in this division a long time and know how to grind out a result
Bottom line is we need to start scoring as we have played 9 games now and our goals for shows 9 goals scored and a third were in one game , hopefully Friday night will be the turning point for us !!

It`s only the end of October. If players recover from injury hopefully they will be good for the rest of the season. Its too early for me to predict where we will be but we have had a rough start. The team rose to the challenge today and did everything apart from put the ball in the net. Obviously an area we need to work on.

The team played well and should have been 3 goals up at half time, but if you can`t score you can`t win games and sloppy play at the end cost us. I`m disappointed but if we can outplay the 2nd in the league there is hope.

Well, I got pellets a few weeks back for saying it, but yes, we need a goal scorer. Wighton isnt doing it. We need a strong, bustling target man……we need a John Watson or Ross Jack or Craig Brewster ……someone that puts his all in to winning the ball……Someone that we can play the ball to that puts all his determination into putting it in the net. It gives everyone else in the team a bit more focus as to where to put the ball.

Every team in the league bar Dundee Utd is desperate for a goal scorer but they are difficult to come by. Gallagher at Airdrie was a goal scoring machine in lower leagues but so far has one this season. I loved Craig Brewster but he played at a time when we were paying players money we simply didn’t have (and with 20 goals in 100 games was hardly prolific as a scorer). I think our biggest problem is the lack of a goal threat was midfield - oh for a Craig Robertson.

Thought Shaun Byrne absolutely strolled it for them yesterday - always in the right place to mop things up, always available for a pass and won lots of clever (sometimes very soft) free kicks - with him in their side it gives the rest of their midfield license to get forward more.

I don`t know who first said that football can be a cruel game, but yesterday was the perfect illustration of how true that saying is. Only the most one-eyed Rovers fan would deny that the very least we deserved was a point.

I take some consolation from the fact that yesterday`s performance was a vast improvement over the week before v Ayr. Things have tightened up dramatically in the last couple of weeks, with both ICT and Morton picking up full points. The pessimists will be looking nervously at the bottom end of the table, but we`re also not far off 4th.

Some big games are coming up in the next few weeks, which may well define our season. I think we can pick up enough points from these games to reach a midtable position and hopefully, push on from there when all our injured players are back.

Folk say we need a striker as if football was like rugby where all penalties and conversion attempts can be entrusted to one player. Our goal attempts yesterday fell mainly to defenders and midfielders. It`s not as if one or two players are consistently missing easy chances which a recognised striker would convert and, as has been said, there isn`t a ready supply of such players.

I fear we`ll just have to persevere with what we`ve got and hope our luck turns. Matty Todd offers a different kind of threat with his pace and runs from deep and KRH can get behind defences and put the ball into dangerous positions. Or maybe Taylor Sutherland will blossom into that elusive prolific striker who can turn half-chances into goals.

I think we lack composure in front of the goal for some reason. We seem to snatch at opportunities. A bit of composure will go a long way and to be confident enough to have a go if an opportunity opens up.

It`s as much a game of psychology as skill.

Might even be worth paying a consultancy fee to bring in retired players who were proven goal scorers like Shearer to pass on any tips!

Shearer offers free tips every week on MOTD. He`s always berating strikers who don`t anticipate where the ball is going to be put, urging players to "gamble"and make the run instead of waiting to see where the ball is going and then reacting to it.

Apart from missing the many chances from open play, our record from corners and set pieces is pretty abysmal as well apart from the corner after their goal we seemed pretty poor at getting anything from these situations.

We cannot just be pinning our hopes on KRH and Matty Todd. What happens if they get injured again or break down in recovery? Injuries are part of football and if we cannot cope with 2 players being out then it doesn’t say much for the rest of the squad

A real kick in the baws to lose that after a much improved performance.

The defence with Bene and Fisher back there is much better, Hamilton also played really well in the middle of the 3 second half. I was really impressed with Paul Allan, one the best performances I have seen from him, he was sharp and put himself about well to win the ball, as well as being his useful tidy self in possession. Like McPake, I prefer Otoo in the middle, he had some good moments, but no decisive contributions.

Edwards was much better and put some good balls in, Comrie was excellent at right wing back, if only the lad could shoot (or head), his movement is great, he attacks the ball really well but just can`t finish.

I was also really impressed with Moffat, again its a pity his shooting is average, as he got into some good areas and showed some quality and creativity. I don`t know why McPake took him off, because afterwards we didn`t look like scoring.

McCann is always a physical threat, but he`s not quite on it at the moment with his decision making, nor is he getting much decent service. Jakubiak had a good first half, he does protect the ball well and you can see players starting to play it into him and running beyond. However his attempts at dribbling were woeful and his decision making when given a bit of time on the ball was poor. Maybe he needs a goal to get some confidence.

Neither Wighton or O`Halloran had any impact once they come on.

There will be extra pressure of on our forwards, because our only midfielders with a goal threat (with the possible exception of Moffat, but so far his shooting doesn`t look great) are injured and neither of our wingbacks score despite getting into lots of good positions.

I’m not sure we had any gilt edged chances yesterday. ? A number of efforts, but none that I would be saying that we should have definitely scored from ?
The best chance of the match was probably a header over the bar by a Raith player in the first half ?

Even the winning goal had a touch of fortune about it. Stanton was the beneficiary of a ricochet

Lots of positives can be taken from that imo. More than deserved a point but, importantly, a vast improvement on the last two weeks

They would improve our options. Our injury list may be down to a few now but it was almost at double figures a few weeks ago.

Not quite. We had almost double figures missing at Tannadice in the Challenge cup tie….including ineligible players.

Having two or three players unavailable because of injury is probably the norm….that’s where we are now…..unless Bene and Breen ( almost certainly) are out longer term…..again…

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Summers was missing due to being injured, as it looks like we are rushing guys back too quickly and nearly everyone that’s come back from injury has now been injured again or have had to be taken off

Eh? Because he had a dead leg that our manager told us about in pre match interview whilst having us believe that he would be ok for Sat….lol. I knew he wouldn’t…. Read him like a book in these interviews now….

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Summers had a `dead leg` after last week`s game so I presume that`s why he was missing yesterday - nothing to do with an earlier injury. Bene`s withdrawal yesterday was not a recurrence of his previous injury apparently. Breen was subbed last week because he felt ill so where`s the proof yesterday`s injury was a recurrence? Mehmet has come back with no issues. Where`s the evidence injured players are being rushed back too soon? McPake suffered a lot of injuries as a player and I would say that has made him ultra-cautios about playing players returning from injury.

It’s looking like the bubbles burst with this squad at the moment. Rovers sussed us out second half, Chalmers lost the game for us at the end. The subs made us look worse. Scunnered with it at the moment.

Watching the highlights, how do you come to that conclusion?🤔😲

There are a number of posters who would be well advised to take a wee break from this forum. Rather than discuss Pars games in a calm and rational manner, they`re actually increasing their stress levels by posting comments that are bordering on the hysterical and having them dismantled by those who are more laid back and coherent.

I`m not naming names, but they should know who they are.....

With our defensive injuries you wonder what’s happening with the Kenyan defender. Took part in the open training session and was at the Ayr game and again yesterday in Pars gear. Maybe visa/work permit related.

Maybe we should have held on to Kyle MacDonald - he`s scored 4 goals in his last 3 games for Hamilton.

There is a long way to go in the season. We are a good side and just lacking that ability to finish. Strikers are thin on the ground and we will struggle to attract anyone of note into the championship. Best to work with the players we have in my view.

From what I saw Hamilton turning his back on Stanton shot lead to the goal

I think Comrie`s effort on the rebound was probably the clearest chance, he struck it decently but too close to the keeper. Possibly also his header with 2 or 3 minutes left at the back post.

Moffat had 3 pretty good chances, 1 in the first half from a cut back which was blocked but was quite tame. 2 shots from good shooting positions in the box second half, which forced decent, if fairly routine saves. Jakubiak wasted an excellent chance 1st half as well, inexplicably sliding when he should have been able to stretch and control the ball, again in a central position in the box, and again not under pressure.

If we are going to score against well organised defences, the players need to be capable of hitting the bottom corner from inside the penalty area.
