A shame as he has played such a big part for us in the qualifying campaign. Although not the greatest striker he performed a role that nobody else can do quite as well as he could.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

It is extremely unfortunate as he has more than played his part. However, it may be a fantastic opportunity for the likes of Shankland to step up and make a name for himself on the international scene.

Good player, very important to the way Scotland play. Who is going to replace him? Are they allowed to bring in late replacements into the squad?

Squad isn`t finalised until Friday, in fact 1 more player still needs to drop out.

Can`t see any replacements being called unless any more injuries.

Think McTominay works best for us behind the strikers. Scores loads running late into the box

Stewart has only played 3/4 games this season. Don’t think he’s started a game since his injury.

Bring in Mikael Mandron, He’s been looking pretty good at St Mirren this season. A big bulky striker who can hassle and harry the defenders.

It would be insane not to call up another striker. We only have Adam’s and Shankland as recognised strikers.

Hope he does but can`t see it.

Shankland / Adams with Christie as backup. Worst case, he floods the team with attacking midfielders, with a slightly more attacking Levein 4-6-0. Having Forrest does give us a proper winger too, which can compensate for a lack of an out and out striker.

Interesting the scotland camp complained about the surface at the Oriam in Edinburgh, but moved the Scotland training to Lesser Hampen and a major injury to one of our main players happens

Peter Grant on BBC Sportsound has put forward Simon Murray`s name as a possible replacement for Dykes. He was also asking about Kevin Nisbet`s situation.

It`s a pity that Fraser Hornby appears to have been injured of late or he could have been a Dykes like replacement? I remember when there were high hopes for Oli Burke but you never hear much about him these days.

We know how good he is but I`d have Simon Murray in before Nisbet right now. Murray has had an incredible season. Who knows what his goal tally could be playing for a top 6 team.

Most importantly though....there is no more Scottish looking forward we could select 😃

Dykes has played in the Championship for 4 years. Why has no EPL club come in for him?

I believe he has ( or had until recently) a higher goals per game ratio for Scotland than Kenny Dalglish.

I know they aren`t centre forwards but both Lewis Morgan and Ryan Gauld have both scored quite a few goals in the MLS season and age wise should be in their prime.Maybe Steve Clarke doesn`t rate the standard but I thought they might have been worth a run out in a friendly or 2 over the past year to increase our options?

You`re the one who started with "ex-QOS" which is wholly irrelevant.

Dykes has never let the national team down and, while not a top class striker, plays our system perfectly and has had a hand in many goals for our EPL players behind him.

We don`t have anyone who plays that role as effectively and he`s a massive loss regardless of what level he`s playing at.

So if I am right there are 27 left. One goalkeeper will drop out leaving 26, which means that Ryan Jack will be in the final 26…….shudder….

Thing is….Conway is a replacement for Dykes….not Doaks. We need another wide man, even Ryan Fraser is upgrade on Jack….Dylan Easton would be an upgrade on Jack Ffs. Ryan effing Jack?

Jack may yet not make the squad, don’t think he’s even close to match fitness either so was strange being called up in first place

Steve Clarke says he has decided who will drop out of the squad but he hasn`t spoken to the players yet. I suppose any injuries on Friday could upset his plans so better to keep quiet. Meanwhile England seem to be drip-feeding news of those omitted - Maddison and Jones this morning and now Grealish and Maguire, who is injured. Southgate has a press conference at 6 but it doesn`t seem to be a very professional way to go about things.

I’m surprised he’s dropped Gordon with it being his last chance of a major tournament. Good to see he’s included Morgan and Conway. Morgan will bring something different to the team and Conway has a lot of potential to go far.

Re Gordon. No room for sentiment I am afraid.

Souttar is injury prone and still carrying a knock.

We still have Five CH in the squad, Six if you count Tierney.

I think we could have gone without Cooper and added another midfielder.

I am quite hopeful that Conway and Morgan will add something and could surprise us…if they are given a chance of course.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.
