Good playing in his day and a big name at this level.
But, he did miss a lot of football last season thru in injury .
Will have other offers im sure my concern is he would take a big chunk of the remaining budget. 35 and prone to injury is it worth the gamble ?

If we have cash to spend on Wotherspoon I would rather see it invested in a younger hungrier player. Is Kerr McInroy still available?

Partick had McInroy on loan last season but now he`s a free agent and they don`t seem to be interested. What we`re looking for is an upgrade on Paul Allan. If Wotherspoon is fit and committed I`d go with him. He might be looking for a longer deal though. I suppose it depends on what other offers he gets.

I wouldn`t want the club offering anyone Wotherspoon`s age anything more than 12 month deal.
With his injury record I`d also argue against offering anything.

I`m always curious when folk mention `injury records`. Few players go through their careers without some kind of injury and most of the time they are just unlucky rather than `injury prone` as seems to be implied.

Don`t think he needs to prove his ability given his footballing career compared to most trialists who are trying to step up a level or academy players who have been released.
Most of if not all the championship clubs would sign Wotherspoon in a heartbeat if his wage wasn`t a stumbling block. McPake and Mackay will be well aware of where he is given he's training daily

Apologies.Missed that one, although he still only played 60 odd minutes. He has played for about 2 hours since February.
If we are running a tight squad and on the back of an injury plagued season it might be wise to see him in action first? If you are going to use a large part of the budget, you want that player to be on the park for the majority of the time.
Hopefully, we might see him in the upcoming games.

Is he really the best we can this summer for an attacking midfielder? He certainly won’t have the legs for any sort of press or defending from the front which is how mcpake sets the team up.

maybe he wasnt used the other night for the same reasons as Ngwenya, Otoo and Kane, individual programmes/slightly behind in fitness/the pitch (according to McPake)
dont see extra cash going his way because of Todd`s injury or as a replacement for him, someone else will have to come in for that which could be Mochrie if the rumours of continued interest in him are true.

I don`t see either of them really adding anything to us to be honest. I`m sure we are offering training facilities as he will be helping out on the pitch which I see as a benefit to both sides. With a smaller squad we need players who are consistent performers and who can stay clear of injuries. If we are a progressive club we need to be trying to bring in players who offer something a but different. Even if that is a few on loan.

It will be interesting to see if Mochrie has come on a bit after being mostly used a sub last season at United.
I didn’t rate him in the season we had him as his form dipped dramatically and he barely kicked a ball after Christmas but surely he’s upped his game both defensively and when attacking and is a year or 2 older.
I must have missed something with wotherspoon, happy to be proved wrong if he’s really good but feels like it’s at least a year too late if not more.

Mochrie Started 23 of his 34 league games last season and was arguably one of the best players in the league before new year. Do agree that his form dipped 2nd half of the season but he was only 19 tbf

Your talking about when he was last with us in the seaside league?
Mochrie was involved in 24 championship games last season. His 1st start was the 9th December and he started 5 games being subbed on every start.
United have released him so they don’t think he’s got the potential to be a premier league player.

So we shouldn`t sign any young player released by a Premiership club? That would exclude an awful lot of potential signings. Where exactly do you see the main source of new recruits for Championship clubs? Young players from what you dismiss as the `seaside League` maybe? Just about every player we are linked with seems to fall short of your required standard.

Not at all wee eck, I think in the creative attacking midfielder role we need more experience and consistency than Mochrie and not someone who perhaps has too many miles in the legs like wotherspoon.
This isn’t the league for someone disinterested in defending or the physical side of the game and that’s exactly what Mochrie was lacking last time in league 1.
Let’s assume he has improved, if he signs we’ll find out soon enough!

We will line up 3 at the back with 2 sitting in front of them. The plan would`ve been kane up top with KRH and Todd in support, with two wing backs providing width.
We will try and play out from the back as per.
It`s so predictable. And with the squad lacking depth we are going to be in trouble early.

The manager has said that we lacked creativity to service our front players so I assumed that was the type he hoped to recruit. I agree with EET. There`s too much emphasis on pressing, closing down etc. Scotland at the Euros also lacked a midfielder who could unlock a defence or take players on.

We’ll see how it goes but this feels a year too late at least. At least he’s not turned us down 2 years in a row!
Having a look and it looks like Martin hardie was 34/35 when he joined us so maybe this could be a shewd move?

I actually popped on to this thread to see if Berkey had cast up the fact he played for St Johnstone and so was known to the management team, and he didn`t disappoint.
This is a good signing, he`s got the quality to open teams up, which we have been lacking. Could be the missing link. It`s also good the amount of positions he can play, he`s played in every outfield position except centre back and left back, gives us experienced cover in case of injuries.
That`s 3 not bad signings replacing 13 (including the loans) who left. Good to see us getting quality and experience in, that`ll help our younger players develop.
I wonder if there will be many more signings, I wouldn`t mind seeing an experienced centre back, another good organiser and talker like Benedictus (or even MFW returning on loan). He`s still the main man that if injured could knock the whole season on the head. Wouldn`t mind seeing Mochrie back, and we will need another keeper.
If we are bringing in loans then they need to be better than they were last season (MFW excepted) or we would be as well using our own kids

comparing last summer and now, it would be Little, Fenton and Allan to replace. its how you do it for the outfield ones, like for like or guys who can play other roles also?
edit: could also depend on what formation McPake is going to use.

Should be a good signing. We need some experience and creativity and hopefully he brings it.

Excellent signing, thought he was excellent for Caley in his short spell there. Bags of experience and will definitely add quality to our creativity in the final 3rd.

Belter of a signing, I think having Chris Kane on loan last season and securing him this season has helped a lot with this as well.
When did 34 really become old for a footballer? Seen enough of his time at ICT to see he has the qualities we really need.
Can’t begrudge his move to Dundee Utd, he’ll know his career is coming to an end and was an excellent opportunity for another medal.
Just glad we’ve got him in black and white this season.

In his prime Wotherspoon was a top player and probably a step up from what most of the current squad will ever reach. The question is how much of it does he still have, but surely the management team will have seen enough of him by now to have made that assessment. The 12 month deal seems sensible, so have hopes that this one will turn out well for us.
Now for the next ones!

If he stays fit this could be a massive signing for us.
Welcome to the club David!

If he can stay injury free that will be a big bonus. I don`t doubt his experience and ability but staying fit will be key. I welcome him to the club and hope that it is of great benefit to both him and the club.

4 of our younger players were out injured for long spells last season.
Not sure age has got all that much to do with it ? Not an exact science, is it ?
It`s bloody tough being a legend

I had a wee look at a couple of his goals on YouTube. Scored a cracker for Hibs on the half volley, and hit a cracking top corner free kick for (I think) St Johnstone.
Best of luck to him, hopefully he brings some of that class to our pitch.

Don’t see us signing much more now, a keeper and that’ll be that.
Then our usual flurry of loan signings once the league season is upon us and the transfer window comes to a close.

If you look at the squad tonight for me it looks really light would hope more additions will be made sooner rather than later
