 Ban Israel from all sports

The Maccabi Tel Aviv fans’ behaviour in Amsterdam proves these scumbags should not be allowed to enter any sports competition. End apartheid. boycott Israel.

Reports here said it was Israeli fans that were attacked by a pro Palestinian mob. I admit that I have only scanned the headlines and haven`t seen any videos of the altercation

No, I did not VEE. The great antisemitic lie is coming out again, and the Dutch authorities have bowed down like puppies to the usual bullshit. Take a look on social media before it is taken down, and you should see the shocking behaviour of the Israeli fans in and around the Ajax ground, their singing of obscene chants about killing Palestinians. It was hardly surprising that the Dutch fans would give them some curry.

The "emergency" flights are a pathetic PR exercise, nothing more.

In all seriousness, the governing bodies can’t be seen to ‘take sides’ in all of this. Blaming one side is just wrong. Both sides of this issue have acted very poorly and should be condemned. Banning Israelis would send the completely wrong message.

Israeli football fans have faced a series of attacks in the centre of Amsterdam, officials say, with riot police having to intervene several times to protect them.
Prime Minister Dick Schoof condemned "antisemitic attacks" and Israel`s military spoke of "severe and violent incidents against Israelis".
Amsterdam`s mayor and authorities said that despite a massive police presence, Israeli fans had been injured in several parts of the Dutch capital.

We should be banning Israel from sports because of their murderous behaviour in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and elsewhere.

Amsterdam mayor
published at 09:46
09:46
Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, says perpetrators "actively sought out" Israeli supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv to attack, abuse, and pelt with fireworks.
She says riot police had to intervene several times, protecting the supporters and escorting them to hotels. However, despite the "massive police presence," some supporters were injured.
"This outburst of violence towards Israeli supporters goes beyond all limits and is in no way defensible," she says.
Halsema also says the "Amsterdam triangle" - the mayor, police chief, and chief public prosecutor - is urging all victims to report to the police

Group of fans are attacked, but apparently it’s them who should be banned. Now, nobody’s trying to claim that Israelis have done absolutely nothing wrong. But this is a crazy suggestion.

Arguing that governing bodies should be taking sides in a political conflict and banning those from one side from taking part is wild. Both sides are very aggressive and have killed far too many people. Individuals are obviously entitled to their opinions, but governing bodies must remain impartial.

If Macabbi fans were responsible for initiating the trouble before or during the match then it`s their club that should be held responsible, not the state of Israel.

If you go that route then there are a bunch of countries that would fit the agenda for being excommunicated from sports.

Ajax have a significant problem with sections of their support likewise.

An Israeli football team went to play in Amsterdam. Their fans shouted obscenities during a minute`s silence, they chanted about Gaza having no schools because they`d bombed them, and that they intended to "f*ck Arabs" or some bollocks, and ripped down Palestinian flags. They got their xxxxx kicked. They forgot they weren`t carrying guns and didn`t have air support, and their opponents weren`t children or old women. Then, they cried about antisemitism. I`ll bet the vast majority of them are not even Semites.

But, remember, most of them will have served in the IDF. They have previous.

For one thing, Israel isn`t in Europe, so shouldn`t be in UEFA competitions. If anything they should be in the AFA, but they banned them.

I think due to the actions of the Israeli government in conducting genocidal ethnic cleansing on the people of Gaza as well as unprovoked attacks on Lebanon, they should be banned from all sports.

Having seen the videos on twitter of the Israeli fans, pulling down Palestine Flags, singing songs about killing kids, bombing schools and fkn Arabs, then I think they were simply asking for it

Coordinated and premeditated attacks on Jews.
Planned on WhatsApp groups, taxi drivers giving locations of Jews they had just dropped at hotels and if there were police present.

The idea that this was an attack on Jews is misleading. It was an attack on Israelis. The conflation of all criticism of Israel with antisemitism has become a very effective way to silence anyone who speaks publicly against Israel.

This is way beyond "speaking out against Israel"
This is pre planned coordinated attacks on football supporters from Tel Aviv. A city which has always been Jewish and never been Arab or Palestinian. Anyone supporting these attacks needs to have a long hard look at themselves.

It`s actually really disturbing watching the news, and reading this thread how the real story is being distorted to portray a theme of pre meditated anti semitism. Have a look online yourself and see how these Maccabi Hooligans behaved and make up your own mind.

The whole situation with Israel in the last year does remind me of Nazi Germany, it`s like a complete role reversal. That old saying "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" springs to mind here. I wondered for years how the Nazi`s got away with it, but if you look at what the Israeli`s are getting away with now, it`s very clear. You are all too scared to be called anti Semitic to call out the genocide that is being carried out by the Israeli Government with the backing of the US and the UK.

If I lived in a country which had ramped up the ethnic cleansing on the inhabitants of the land they have occupied, in the way that they have in the last year, I think the last thing I would do is travel to a city with a 12% Muslim population, tear down Palestinian Flags and burn them, walk through the city in their hordes singing "death to Arabs", disrupt a minutes silence for the victims of the flooding in Spain by singing songs about how they are "no schools in Gaza because we killed all the kids". Anyone that does all that and doesn`t expect to get their totties must be stupid.

They must have forgot they weren`t carrying guns and didn`t have air support, and their opponents weren`t children or old women. Only after the locals had called them out on their behaviour, by giving them what they asked for, only then they cried about antisemitism.

Looks like the Maccabi fans (who have form, they battered someone in Athens earlier in this competition IIRC) tore down Palestinian flags, beat up a taxi driver, we`re chanting some horrendous things about killing children and the like and then jarred and whistled the minutes silence for the Valencia floods. There may well have been a coordinated response or an organised battle between different hooligan groups, but to claim it was some kind of antisemitic crusade or some kind of pogrom is well wide of the mark. Anyway, there`s no place for any kind of violence in football and hopefully there is some kind of investigation into what happened.

Honestly, people need to stop bringing politics into sport and stop using religion as an excuse to be fannies.

The Quran and the Torah both contain similar text that translates as pretty much an eye for an eye. Unfortunately, both sides seem intent on blinding themselves.

Both sets of old firm fans sing about killing each other. Liverpool and Manchester United fans likewise with songs about disasters, could go on and on when it comes to songs and football teams.
However from what was protrayed it appeared to be an orchestrated attack on Israelis after the match. Were they all innocent probably not but would
Imagine most were.
All this is appalling and violent behaviour is becoming more apparent in lots of European cities and it is no coincidence people with Palestinian loyalites lie behind most of it.

Owen Jones put it well- Imagine Russian football fans in a foreign city:

- Interrupted a minute’s silence in memory of dead flood victims with chants in support of killing Ukrainian children

- Rampaged through the city

- Ripped down Ukrainian flags

- Chanted “death to Ukrainians”

- Attacked local residents

Imagine then, when local residents attacked them, they were presented as victims of a racist pogrom.

Banning Russia but not Israel from participating in sporting competitions just shows the Western agenda. Tbh, I don`t really have much time for Middle East politics given how much of a dump fire our own country is, but doing it for one and not the other just shows how pathetic UEFA/FIFA really are. OZ - you should be ashamed of yourself mate, but reading your other diatribes, I highly doubt it.

===

Well, you are spot on there, Lux. I don`t think I have anything to be ashamed of in this respect.

This is beyond politics. You can`t separate the ghastly goings on in Gaza from what occurred in Amsterdam. You can`t have women and children being indiscriminately slaughtered on the one hand and, on the other, offer a welcome to the perpetrators in a major football competition. And yes, given the conscription rules in Israel, a high proportion of those Maccabi fans will be serving or have served in the IDF.

We can`t allow them free rein in Europe.

It was the sports boycott of South Africa throughout the `80s that brought an end to the apartheid regime there. As the Maccabi fans demonstrated, Israel more than deserves the same treatment. And it is not antisemitic to say so. The Zionists have cleverly manipulated a term that, in truth, does not apply to them, as most Zionists are not Semites.

I am sorry if you find my "diatribes" offensive. All I do is offer alternative viewpoints to what you are being served in your day-to-day media. You may not like them, but in the main, they have and will be proved correct. The impending defeat of Ukraine is a prime example.

As others have correctly pointed out, there seems to be no issue with banning Russia from sports events, so why not Israel?

The problem with all media is there`s a story that suits everyone and people will easily find the ones that match whatever narrative they choose to believe.

I`ll see if I can find the link but there was a study done that showed that when people who strongly believe something are shown evidence that goes against their belief they tend to double down rather than question their belief.

The question for me would be if those attacking the Israelites did so in retaliation, or because they had pre-planned their attacks.

Pity the BBC cut the audio for the chants/signing before violence erupted as it was too "offensive". It may have helped sway the belief that instead of it being some sort of pre-organised, widespread attacks on Maccabi fans, it was for a large part, very reactionary conduct to abhorrent provocation. (not that violence is justified)

Fwiw, I reckon regardless of the behaviour of the more radical Maccabi fans, there definitely would have been disorder, and violence perpetrated against them as there are always going to be idiots.

Funnily enough, I do actually recognise the double standard here. The Israelis should not be participating in European competitions and they should have been banned for their conduct in the recent conflicts, as the Russians were.

It is certainly the case that Israeli ultras have form for such behaviour. But to claim that Arab communities in European countries don`t knowingly and deliberately conflate Israeli and Zionist is just an absolute joke.

Oz however, frankly, is desperate to save his own ego.

He will attribute any criticism of the Arab parties in the middle-East to "Zionist brainwashing". And anyone who disagrees with him or his supposed "Insider knowledge" is simply brainwashed by the "Zionist media."

For the record, I support the toppling of the Likud party and the criminal trial of Netanyahu and Gallant in the Hague. What the Israelis have done to the Palestians over generations is absolutely reprehensible.

That said, the Islamists in the Arab states are just as untrustworthy as the Zionazis running Israel. The use of schools and hospitals and schools as "safe havens" for their militants is widely known but ignored by those with an inherent bias, which includes a number of Western Governments.

Frankly, Theocrats if any description are disgusting, yet according to Oz, Zionist = bad, Islamist = Good. Go figure.

And then there is the praise for Autocrats such as Xi and Putin...

The guy is simply another deluded tanky.

The overall point of the post was correct though - Israeli clubs SHOULD be banned from competition until the conflict is over, along with their national side.

It is becoming more clear that last nights incidents towards their fans was in response to the actions of their fans during the day.

In no way do I back Hamas or Hezbollah but to commit open genocide of countries, by a sovereign nation, should 100% be called out and acted on…..but instead they have been backed.

Videos emerging of their fans singing that “there are no schools in Gaza because all of the children are dead” and “f*ck the arabs” being widely spread on social media

Just ban Israeli fans from the away matches if they can`t behave themselves!

His posts read to me like someone who’s absolutely wrapped up in whatever it is he’s reading/consuming.

Funny how folk can make the same argument for the same thing about whatever nation/ethnicity/race/group but they can’t recognise the prejudice and flaws in their own bile because they are talking about folk they’ve already decided they don’t like.

Btw OZ I get a lot of news from X and similar sources as well but you’ll never hear me making an argument that football fans acting stupid deserve whatever comes their way incl potential kidnapping and murder. Maybe time to mix up sources a little - it’s looking like everything is leaning far to far in one direction

Israel 100% had the right to goto war after what happened in october (watch the videos of the attack)

Hamas have hidden bases under hospital school etc the IDF have said "we dont give a **** we are going to get them "

Feel for the innocents killed but what else are they supposed to do ?

Its a complicated issue but after what happened in October its up to Israel what they do.

Maybe not carpet bomb entire cities without a care in the world of who they kill?

Great to see you feel for the 20,000 innocent children massacred in the last year……

The fact of the matter is this latest war was triggered by the Attack on Israel in October.

I`ve seen the video`s of naked Israeli girls being dragged thru the streets on the back of pickup trucks (obviously dead) and hundreds of "innocent" Palestinian men and women cheering.

As i say its a very complicated issue but I can 100% see why Isreal is so angry.

If you have seen those videos then you have clearly seen the videos of dismembered women and children caused by Israeli bombs…..do you see why it’s morally reprehensible to back Israels way of response? Or do you still think its acceptable to carpet bomb innocent civilians?

I agree they 100% had to do something but the IDF are 100% making huge mistakes and have committed their own unjustifiable acts in the process. It’s difficult tho, Hamas have reiterated their mantra that as soon as they have opportunity to attack like they did on October 7th, they’ll do it again. The whole conflict is basically one unjustifiable act after another. There needs to be some sort of resolution somewhere but what that is or how they find it 🤷🏻‍♂️

So disappointed to read what has degenerated into a political debate in the football section.
Why not take it to the political section?

I think he’s meaning more of the propaganda war…

And yeah you’re right, they’ve literally hid behind thousands of their own people and watched them being murdered so they could spread the videos on social media.

What they’ve not spread is all of the supplies they were keeping for themselves that had been air dropped in by other nations.

The Israelis have been raping and murdering Palestinians for………Decades. Stealing their land and shooting innocent protesters in cold blood. Hundreds of Palestinian children are still in jail…..for throwing stones.

See Sky New did an edit job on their video of the trouble in Amsterdam which was started by the Maccabi fans…

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

If life was so easy - keep politics out of sport - or sport becomes politics

That statement about sport and politics not being linked always grinds my gears for some reason… I think the reason is that sport and politics are intrinsically linked and that connection will then be proactively endorsed by the very same person making the comment.
For example, every time they watch the national team and sing the anthem (representing our political nation state) or support an athlete at Olympics (who if medals will stand under a nation state’s flag and then will not see their name on the medal table but instead be added to the list of individual states’ tally).

Sport does not take place in a vacuum, completely separate from the rest of the world and the corresponding social and political context therein. Sport is not only is shaped by that context, but can even help set it. How many Protestants in Northern Ireland play or watch (Gaelic) football or hurling?
How many times have we punish political regimes we don’t like by preventing inclusion (South Africa, Russia), we all recognise sportwashing, we see the hosting of sporting events to present a positive vote on countries (Russian Olympics) and we celebrate sportsmen and women who use their public status to display defiance to political regimes (from podiums and black gloves to Sebastian Vettel LGTBQ support in Saudi Arabia)
We all expect National commemorations to be observed in sports (minute silences)…
I could go on but you get the gist - sport is politics

Spot on DBP.

The two are intrinsically linked whether we like it or not….

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.
