It`s interesting to note that in the last home game against Ayr on 31/08/24 ten of the starting eleven also started on Saturday at Firhill. The exception was Josh Cooper who started in place of Matty Tood who would have been injured in August.

From COWS -
Dunfermline Athletic can confirm that Saturday’s match with Ayr United has been rearranged for Tuesday, 14th January 2025, with a 7.45pm kick-off due to the ongoing challenging weather circumstances.
Despite the undersoil heating system running since Tuesday morning, the extremely low temperatures have resulted in a number of areas of the pitch that are frozen. With temperatures due to fall further ahead of Saturday’s match day, there is no chance the pitch would be in a playable condition.
We have been in dialogue with the SPFL and Ayr United to try and make a decision as early as possible to give supporters plenty of notice.
Tickets already purchased will still be valid for the rearranged fixture.

Sure, it`s crap because we don`t have a game now on Saturday.

USH isn`t intended for temps as low as this. I`m not sure if covers may have helped but it`s irrelevant as the game is correctly rescheduled. In case people haven`t noticed, there`s been a weather warning all week about continued low temperatures.

I`m jumping to VEE`s defence too. We have an USH system that seems to work on some parts of the pitch but not others if, that is, it decides to work at all. I know these things are expensive to run and that, for a club with our financial constraints, is problematic, but VEE has a valid point.
I expect tomorrows premier league fixtures will go ahead.

Yes, the system is what it is but you can`t apportion blame as it was installed some time ago. So you should not be having a go at the club.
I`m pretty sure they appreciate the costs and income lost when game postponed

Don`t think it`s been that cold tbh. Certainly not as low as forecasted. Quite early to call it off but if they waited til Saturday morning that would have been worse. Still think it`s odd that Morton v Raith is going ahead the following day. Unless there`s going to be a thaw starting now and the park won`t quite be soft enough on Saturday but will on Sunday, it seems risky.
In terms of our undersoil heating, for a lot of years it was only the Old Firm, Hampden, Aberdeen and Partick that had it. It was quite forward thinking and a big thing that we installed it when we did. We don`t have to have one and having one doesn`t mean we have to use it. I wouldn`t go as far to say that it`s not fit for purpose though. It works at the rated temperatures (to about -5 or thereabouts I think) and while there have been sections broken before I think they`ve been repaired as best as possible. If we had oil available (i.e. we didn`t have to pay for more) then it was probably worth a go when the cold snap wasn`t as cold as expected but when it went down to minus nine the other night it probably meant we were fighting a losing battle. Maybe once we`re Europa League regulars we`ll get the UV lamps and they can sit on the Main Stand side so we avoid UEFA fines.

No worries.
The point is that these temperatures are being forecast well in advance, so if the club is aware that the USH can’t cope the obvious question arises.
The system has a track record of failing to render the pitch playable, this not a new experience.

I`m not looking for an argument, Bletchley, but it`s not a "crap decision", it`s the correct one, because even if the USH was left on the pitch would still be unplayable and the safety of the players and match officials has to be taken into consideration.
With the benefit of hindsight, it would have made more financial sense not to switch on the USH at all. A conservative estimate is that this will have cost the club around £6k. Probably even more than that at the turnstiles on Tuesday. The Board couldn`t win on this occasion. They`d have been criticised if they hadn`t turned it on. Damned if you do, damned if you don`t.

It`s interesting that the Highlands had temperates of about -15 last night, yet the Ross County match still went ahead.

How’s that relevant? County’s owner is one of the richest men in Scotland and they are playing the biggest team in the country live on tv. Of course they’ll make sure it’s on.

Going by that and unless I’m mistaken, there are no games being played on grass today in the bottom 3 divisions.

Saltonsgate, all these are artificial surfaces, what was the point in making that point?
It`s clearly we the correct decision, and we knew well in advance there was this temperature drop which our undersoil heating would not be able to handle.
It was good it was made early, so as many as possible weren`t disrupted.

to cancel 100% the right decision ,I just travelled from Houston Texas for the game, but I agrree to postpone
you travelled from Texas for this game , I Ok 🙄😆😆
I`m trying to work out why you would find it necessary to question this.
I had a similar experience in the taxi once when I said I regularly walked to Edinburgh to save £1
My mates were all at uni, and at that time, the train cost £1 and a pint was 33p.
Train or 3 pints?
I was fit and healthy with plenty of time, so it was a no-brainer to me.
Why make the effort to call someone you don`t know a liar. What is there to gain other than animosity?
Plenty folk do outlandish things on a wim.
It makes the world a colourful place.
Who called anyone a liar ?
There is no way he travelled from Texas just for the game as he made out.
Well, generally speaking. If someone says they did something and another person says, ""I don`t believe you."
That is calling them a liar.
Unless I have the wrong meaning of liar in my dictionary.
Of course, words do change their meaning quite significantly. I remember a time when Wicked was not superb and being "Sick" wasn`t particularly desirable.
Maybe I missed something

From a personal perspective, I can`t disagree with you, but as a Pars fan I must. The club will lose £thousands more at the turnstiles tomorrow, compared to what it could have grossed on Saturday. Factor in the £thousands lost by turning on the USH, in the vain attempt to get the game played, and you`ll realise there`s not a lot to be glad about, Jock. 😒

It would be interesting and useful to know what level of sub zero temperatures the USH can deal with.
Assuming the manufacturers specification will give ground staff an indication if it’s robust enough, based on weather forecasts, to cope in advance.
Then the club management can make an informed judgement about switching it on with reasonable confidence that the forthcoming match can survive the elements.

My information is that it`s effective down to -4°C. The overnight temps last week were lower than that - down as far as -7, I think. It`s unfair to criticise the BoD as they made every effort to allow the game to go ahead and ultimately it was all in vain.

If it`s only effective to -4 and the forecast was -7 wasn`t it an error of judgement to switch it on ?

Maybe they hoped it wouldn`t actually drop that low? Sometimes forecasts can be a bit erratic. Either way, they made a calculated gamble to try and get the game on. Given they have all the facts/figures re costs/potential revenue, not just the guff on here, I`d say they are in a better position to decide than anyone

I think it also depends on the number of sub zero days as this determines the frost depth so taking longer to thaw the ground out. This means leaving the system on longer and increases costs. Right decision in my view

You seem to be implying that the club management don`t have this information or aren`t using it when they make decisions. Is that what you`re saying?
