Just following on from coventrypar`s post on another thread. It does seem that the forum is now dominated by a handful of regulars, with a lot of the less frequent posters who I used to enjoy reading having pretty much given up entirely. It would be interesting to get an idea as to why we`ve gone this way.
I`ve become less regular myself in recent years and I think most of it is because I just can`t be arsed with the level of aggression, much of it passive, that fills the forum. That`s particularly so at times (as recently) when I don`t feel very strong emotionally. Subjecting myself to that stuff when I feel like that just doesn`t feel safe. I`m pretty sure I`ve said things in the past that weren`t very nice so I don`t want that to sound all high-handed, but sometimes it`s worth remembering that the person you think is being a fanny and talking nonsense might not be having a great time.
The almost constant snidey, nippy comments are just really offputting. I also find the comments that essentially complain about a lack of kindness being shown towards players, management, etc. but which then attack another poster in very unkind terms, to be really odd. I`m always struck that the person doesn`t notice the contradiction.
Are football forums more prone to it than others? I don`t know as they tend to be the only places I write anything online. Maybe it`s just the way of the internet generally? Someone might well be thinking `maybe the internet is not for you` and maybe it`s not. But it`s a bit of a shame if that is the case.
Anyone else who doesn`t post all that often have any views on this?

I`ll pipe up on this. I work nights. A fair amount of the time. I`ve been conditioned and ordered to be Dunfermline since I was born. 87 of course. (No child was harmed )
I read a thread not that long ago. Something about someone challenged Luxembourg Par. Or someone like that. And Buffy Par wrote "I`ll haud yer jaiket" meaning on you go cos I know you and you are a better Pars Fan than that one.
There is a massive fan base out there. In all the villages outside of the town. Where I am. Where Bert Paton is from actually. The entitlement on this thread is utterly astounding at times.
There are thousands of Pars fans out there. Not just this wee circle

I think Buffy was being funny, not picking sides. She knows Lux Par was a boxer in his distant youth. ( I think)
I don`t post so much because I don`t have time. I work nightshift because I care for my wife and disabled son through the day. A humbling experience that has helped me focus on the important things in life. I used to be very gobby on here, quite a smart ass really, but I hope I have turned that round a bit over the last couple of years. I still let go sometimes, but like Socks says, sometimes I need to vent, and I am sorry, but here seems to be where I do it.
I must say that in 15 or so years of reading dotnet, I have never heard Socks say anything out of hand to, or about anyone. Apart from me on the odd occasion when I was being gobby. Even then, he would do it in a manner that would encourage me to take a wee look at myself rather than issue a retort.

In total I think I`ve posted in single figures. The main deterrent for me is the sense of entitlement by those who rant on and demand this, that and the next thing from the board or manager, which does does lend itself to a reasoned discussion when a balanced counter post is made.

I have ben a member of the forum for a long time and been reading it for much longer. Joined in 2008.
I very rarely post because there`s usually someone who will post exactly what I`m thinking, so there`s no real need to. (Not always the same people).
I have seen many posters come and go. Some who are missed, most who aren`t.
Having moved up to the Broch 11 years ago, I don`t get to many games, probably half a dozen a season, I have found that I rely more on the forum for my feedback.
Unfortunately, the place seems to have been hijacked by a few posters who are all over everything like a rash and if anyone dares to post something they don`t subscribe to then the level of abuse is quite disturbing.
I can`t really be bothered by letting someone on a forum annoy me so much that I simply have to engage in childish bickering, so I don`t understand why there`s so much of it on here. We are all supposedly fans of the same club and yet there seems to be very little common ground at times.
Granted, there are times that it`s quite amusing being on the outside looking in as some folk wind themselves up to breaking point and the square go invitations are getting written.
However, I do read the forum every day. I get my wee fix from some of the good stuff that`s written on here about my club.
Always a Par

I`ll respond to other`s posts but unlikely to post my own thread because of the herd mentality and pervading superiority complex in here, that and straight off the bat someone insinuated they had "confirmed who I am" which to this day hasn`t been cleared up, I can only say again, that`s unlikely but it is what it is.
I don`t wanna go down like disco.

Another good, thought-provoking OP. Long may these continue. I wonder if this and Coventry`s post have been inspired by a sense of frustration at some of the juvenile bickering and trading of insults that go on here sometimes?
I don`t think Socks` question really applies to me as I`m on the forum quite a lot. I try not to get involved with those posters who seemingly go out of their way to provoke fellow Pars fans, but that`s not always easy. The most disappointing aspect of the forum for me is the way a few posters can turn a positive post like Coventry`s titled "Joe Chalmers" into a negative. It`s not as if we haven`t heard it all before. You don`t rate a player? Fair enough, but do we have to have it explained to us how you came to this conclusion on a daily basis?
Not your average Sunday League player.

That’s a completely wrong assumption there 87Par. I don’t think I’ve ever considered anyone on here (or anywhere) better than anyone else. I do know quite a few posters - having been on the forum a long time - but most of my posts are lighthearted, and those particular words are simply that.
I also don’t consider dotnet to be the be all and end all of Pars fans. I know more Pars fans outwith the forum. This is just a wee dip in the sea.
