Just following on from coventrypar`s post on another thread. It does seem that the forum is now dominated by a handful of regulars, with a lot of the less frequent posters who I used to enjoy reading having pretty much given up entirely. It would be interesting to get an idea as to why we`ve gone this way.
I`ve become less regular myself in recent years and I think most of it is because I just can`t be arsed with the level of aggression, much of it passive, that fills the forum. That`s particularly so at times (as recently) when I don`t feel very strong emotionally. Subjecting myself to that stuff when I feel like that just doesn`t feel safe. I`m pretty sure I`ve said things in the past that weren`t very nice so I don`t want that to sound all high-handed, but sometimes it`s worth remembering that the person you think is being a fanny and talking nonsense might not be having a great time.
The almost constant snidey, nippy comments are just really offputting. I also find the comments that essentially complain about a lack of kindness being shown towards players, management, etc. but which then attack another poster in very unkind terms, to be really odd. I`m always struck that the person doesn`t notice the contradiction.
Are football forums more prone to it than others? I don`t know as they tend to be the only places I write anything online. Maybe it`s just the way of the internet generally? Someone might well be thinking `maybe the internet is not for you` and maybe it`s not. But it`s a bit of a shame if that is the case.
Anyone else who doesn`t post all that often have any views on this?

I`ll pipe up on this. I work nights. A fair amount of the time. I`ve been conditioned and ordered to be Dunfermline since I was born. 87 of course. (No child was harmed )
I read a thread not that long ago. Something about someone challenged Luxembourg Par. Or someone like that. And Buffy Par wrote "I`ll haud yer jaiket" meaning on you go cos I know you and you are a better Pars Fan than that one.
There is a massive fan base out there. In all the villages outside of the town. Where I am. Where Bert Paton is from actually. The entitlement on this thread is utterly astounding at times.
There are thousands of Pars fans out there. Not just this wee circle

I think Buffy was being funny, not picking sides. She knows Lux Par was a boxer in his distant youth. ( I think)
I don`t post so much because I don`t have time. I work nightshift because I care for my wife and disabled son through the day. A humbling experience that has helped me focus on the important things in life. I used to be very gobby on here, quite a smart ass really, but I hope I have turned that round a bit over the last couple of years. I still let go sometimes, but like Socks says, sometimes I need to vent, and I am sorry, but here seems to be where I do it.
I must say that in 15 or so years of reading dotnet, I have never heard Socks say anything out of hand to, or about anyone. Apart from me on the odd occasion when I was being gobby. Even then, he would do it in a manner that would encourage me to take a wee look at myself rather than issue a retort.

In total I think I`ve posted in single figures. The main deterrent for me is the sense of entitlement by those who rant on and demand this, that and the next thing from the board or manager, which does does lend itself to a reasoned discussion when a balanced counter post is made.

I have ben a member of the forum for a long time and been reading it for much longer. Joined in 2008.
I very rarely post because there`s usually someone who will post exactly what I`m thinking, so there`s no real need to. (Not always the same people).
I have seen many posters come and go. Some who are missed, most who aren`t.
Having moved up to the Broch 11 years ago, I don`t get to many games, probably half a dozen a season, I have found that I rely more on the forum for my feedback.
Unfortunately, the place seems to have been hijacked by a few posters who are all over everything like a rash and if anyone dares to post something they don`t subscribe to then the level of abuse is quite disturbing.
I can`t really be bothered by letting someone on a forum annoy me so much that I simply have to engage in childish bickering, so I don`t understand why there`s so much of it on here. We are all supposedly fans of the same club and yet there seems to be very little common ground at times.
Granted, there are times that it`s quite amusing being on the outside looking in as some folk wind themselves up to breaking point and the square go invitations are getting written.
However, I do read the forum every day. I get my wee fix from some of the good stuff that`s written on here about my club.
Always a Par

I`ll respond to other`s posts but unlikely to post my own thread because of the herd mentality and pervading superiority complex in here, that and straight off the bat someone insinuated they had "confirmed who I am" which to this day hasn`t been cleared up, I can only say again, that`s unlikely but it is what it is.

Another good, thought-provoking OP. Long may these continue. I wonder if this and Coventry`s post have been inspired by a sense of frustration at some of the juvenile bickering and trading of insults that go on here sometimes?
I don`t think Socks` question really applies to me as I`m on the forum quite a lot. I try not to get involved with those posters who seemingly go out of their way to provoke fellow Pars fans, but that`s not always easy. The most disappointing aspect of the forum for me is the way a few posters can turn a positive post like Coventry`s titled "Joe Chalmers" into a negative. It`s not as if we haven`t heard it all before. You don`t rate a player? Fair enough, but do we have to have it explained to us how you came to this conclusion on a daily basis?
Not your average Sunday League player.

Spot on Socks.
A small few on here have pretty much made me stop posting.
I still come on for a gander and most of it is good opinionated stuff. But when this small few get involved they suck the life out of everyone else. They used to rip my knitting but now I just have a chuckle to myself.
So that`s kinda stopped me posting.

Most of the time I donât have strong enough opinions or the mental energy to post.
As for the bickering, that would be radically reduced if folks had the discipline to âplay the ball, not the manâ. Have the strength to refrain from commenting on the posterâs personal attributes (usually perceived negativity or positivity). Go after their rationales, not their human nature.

Yes, I stopped posting for a couple of years, mainly because my password didn`t work and I didn`t bother correcting it! I don`t live for it.
It`s true I don`t post if someone has posted what I think anyway, if there`s a decent story (new manager etc) then it`s busy anyway
.There does appear to be just a handful of regular posters though, most are good, but my goodness there`s a lot of nippy people out there, just looking to correct one single mistake.
Also don`t like the language used `wage thief` etc. these are honest pros, no player is making money in 2nd tier Scottish football, and there`s a high % of Pars fans that will earn more than the players. General abuse I don`t like, and there`s a fair bit of it.
I look here and pie and Bovril for updates, tend to find P & B doesn`t have so many raspers.

I post on occasion and always do so respectfully without trying to cause any offence whilst publishing my thoughts or opinions.
It`s a great platform to share information and opinions whilst getting a flavour of others opinions, moods, ideas, etc
I do enjoy the banter đ
However some posters cannot seem to tell the difference between Banter v. Bullying.
I have noticed on many occasions that sometimes banter can evolve into bullying and is reminiscent of a table of drunken men squabbling at their local pub.
Behind the keyboard they can dress themselves up in their very best Super Hero attire and dawn extraordinary powers of bravery in attacking other people`s opinions from "very far away".....
Best to just let them, "Enjoy their night mate"!

for me its the repetitive things on every post which just makes threads/forum unbearable at times. Many of the level headed posters who offer valuble opinions etc have stopped or seldom post as socks highlights and replaced with childish wind up merchants who become aggressive. When the sensible posts are there they are buried in the middle of the nonsense so are often missed.
Some good ideas posted elsewhere to enhance the forum. a "block" or "ignore" option for certain posters. The old rogues gallery used to be good and felt more like a community as you could put a face who you were talking to and see them at games etc rather than the anonimity of the people who create email address after email address for multiple log ins and post abusive/nonsense wind up posts.

I used to be a more frequent poster but now I`ll just read most threads rather than add to them as someone usually covers my thoughts in their comments.
One thing that frustrates me though, is when someone falsely accuses you of something thats just not true. I was recently accused by a poster of `always replying to my posts with something crappy` and ` a grown man acting the way you do. It`s pathetic`.
That stuff kinda wears me down and puts me off posting.

I`m probably wearing rose tinted goggles but I do miss the old random utterly comedic stupid threads that popped up from time to time (in a good way).
Some posters can be relied on for kindness (I`ll bring a bed round for free being a good example), some for interesting points and others for reacting badly to any perceived disagreement or a different opinion being held. Two ears one mouth is always a good approach in my experience.
Generally, it`s an interesting place to hear what`s going on, learning some new things, but I think it has lost a little edge in terms of being a community and turned into folk looking for a scrap in an empty room.
Thanks to admin for continuing to run it. And I hope those above who have suggested they haven`t been in the optimum place recently are starting to feel a bit better. Can`t wait for more vitamin D myself and some improved results.
I`d probably post more if there was more positivity around.

There definitely is a heirarchy on here, and these posters seem to take delight in referring to posters by their real name, basically highlighting that they know so many other posters on a personal basis. Itâs like this forum gives them their purpose in life.
Also so many threads descend in to one on one arguing with comments like âshow me where I said thatâ or â read my post againâ. If you canât just step away and you feel the need to prove every point on an internet forum, then this site has got too big a hold on your life.

Used to post a wee bit but not a lot. Now I barely ever post
To offer an alternative view, the snidey comments and arguments actually don`t put me off as any online forum tends to have this anyway.
As sad as it is to say, I just don`t have the passion for the Pars I used to any more. The events of the last few years on and off the pitch and rising costs have made it really difficult to prioritise supporting the Pars over other things. Just a few years ago I was a home and away supporter with a season ticket. This season I have been to 2 games.
I`d say I`ve gone from a die hard to a part timer who goes on this forum only to check the rumour mill now and again, which a few years ago I would never have seen happening.

Without confirming some sort of agreement then all you`ll get is disagreement.
That`s why the like buttons are quite important on a forum. Having to type out a lot in response (and for it to then be read) isn`t really in anyone`s best interests!

Absolutely this. Every thread berkey posts in gets ruined, not because of him, but because people are very clearly trying to harass him. Thatâs just one example though, thereâs been numerous examples of this, with different users involved. It seems like if youâre trying to provide a different perspective, youâre not welcome here. I`ve been reading this forum for several years but only recently started posting. Whilst I enjoy a lot of the banter, I find the abuse and sarcasm towards players, management and other posters very off-putting. My dad took me to my first Pars game v Celtic in 1961 and I worked in the Commercial Department during the 90s. These days, I perhaps watch Edinburgh City almost as often as the Pars because Meadowbank is a mere 20 minute walk from my home, and in all that time I have never verbally abused a player of any team, although I admit to booing when the occasion merits it. Good natured banter is fine, but verbal abuse and downright sarcasm can be very hurtful. As a footnote, I still think we should be monitoring Connor Young! đ

I like talking about players, and tactics, and the opposition, and grounds, and kit, and all that stuff. Sadly there seems to be very few posters who share an interest in shapes and tactics. There seems to be very few posters who can look at a player objectively (good or bad) without stuff becoming personal. There seems to be very few posters who have an appreciation of or interest in other clubs in the division. There are a few that share an appreciation for nice or quirky or unusual grounds and strips (I liked the jersey the Stenhousemuir boys were wearing on Saturday) but those threads are few and far between. There are however multiple posts alagging off individual posters, there seems to be a massive anti-David Cook cabal who slag him in almost every thread and there are fewer posters who contribute these days. So I stick to Pie and Bovril and a group chat I`m in.

I`m not in a good place mentally so having people jump all over me because of an obvious joke is a bit much. Keyboard warriors never used to bother me but for some reason they now hurt my feelings. Maybe I`m being precious but that`s how I feel.
Then there is the constant negativity, it`s non stop. The new manager wasn`t even officially announced but already the usual crowd were all over him. Not good enough, no ambition, bargain basement manager etc.
The main reason though is the general apathy I feel towards the club. I`m just not as interested as I used to be. I`m more interested in my second club, Newcastle.
The forum is full of dilettantes (me being one of them) that post some absolutely unreadable nonsense.
I won`t even read this thread again because I know I`ll get targeted. So write what you want about me,I won`t see it.
Ps I`m also on a tennis forum and that`s even worse than here for bickering trolls.

Not a fan of much else.
