According to his Wikipedia profile .Raymond mainly operates as a defender. He specifically operates as a left-back. He can also operate as a left winger or left midfielder. He is known for his speed.

Just watched a 5 minute video of his highlights for St Johnstone this season and he looks like a very decent player.
Loves a tackle, strong and can dribble and beat a man. Also some decent delivery into the box.
Would love to see him let loose on the left wing.

Pars Head Coach, Michael Tidser believes the addition of another left back will add competition for places. He explained the move:-
“You can see the club are trying to get players and help the squad. Andre played a lot for St Johnstone at the start of the season but obviously the new manager coming in doesn’t really fancy him. So, we hope we can get a wee tune out of him from now to the end of the season.
“Even with Kieran Ngwenya there as well who has done great, we have a lot of games are coming thick and fast. I know it’s the end of the season, but for next season as well, we want to try and have real competition for places. Instead of boys just being too comfy and knowing that they might play. We’ve filled in with Joe Chalmers there at left back a couple of times, but he’s a central midfielder by trade, so that was more just refreshing things. He’ll add competition between him and Kieran. Hopefully, push him on and whoever does well keeps their jersey.”
Sounds like he`s there for left back rather than playing further forward.

I warmly welcome the signing of a left-sided player, who appears to possess versatility, capable of assuming multiple positions. However, I firmly believe it is imperative that we secure a forward. Without Kane, our attack threat is virtually non-existent. While I recognise that Yeboah is still in the developmental stages of his career, we cannot afford to accommodate his learning curve during such a critical juncture of the season. It’s the business end of the season as tidser has said multiple times. Yeboah’s performance on Tuesday was horrific, yet he remained on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes. I understand that the market for goal-scoring strikers is particularly challenging, but I think that this must be our priority.

The 2 loans should have been used on a winger and central midfielder.

Welcome to the Pars, Andre.
Berkey, let`s wait until he`s kicked a ball in earnest before deciding if he`s a "waste of a loan" or not, eh? Just because he comes as a LB doesn`t mean he`ll be sitting on the bench every week, waiting on Ngwenya picking up an injury. If he`s a good enough player, Tidser will surely find a role in the starting XI?
The suggestion that he could be used in left midfield is hardly outlandish, is it?

The thread was not "dodgy" at all, AL. It was badly misinterpreted by a few posters. I accepted the blame for couching it in a way that left room for it to be misinterpreted and apologised for that. The vast majority of posters interpreted it exactly as it was intended - a celebration of the vastly increased diversity of footballers in the Scottish game and the much improved attitudes among those watching it during my lifetime.

Otoo is a natural left back though? We should’ve signed someone with a bit of quality in the middle of the park. Otoo just isn’t a midfielder no matter how much we play him there.

Why are people claiming Otoo is a natural LB? He played mostly CB for Celtic youth teams and Celtic B before coming here. Played LCB in a back 3 most of his loan spell here. Then we moved him to midfield, covering at LB a few times, but he’s never looked natural crossing a ball. Largely cause he’s not a LB so that doesn’t come naturally to him.

It`s the latest .net band waggon, that can be used to criticise player choices and team selections.
We have enough reasons to be critical without making stuff up.
We`ve generally been a better team with Otoo in midfield. The recent games where he had to fill in at left back were poor.

It states on our club website that Otoo is a defender who can play on the left side or in the centre of defence. Maybe the club are making stuff up as well? If you think Otoo should be playing in the centre of the park you’re deluded. He’s not got the ball control or range of passing to be effective there and he doesn’t contribute with enough goals.

Agreed you seen when we moved him to left back the midfield completely collapsed. Although I don`t think he is playing well at the minute I don`t think it`s down to him being a left back to trade.
Back onto the topic of the new signing it`s good we now have cover and competition for places in that position so happy with the signing.

Otoo is absolutely dreadful at left back, so lets just avoid that option. If he has come in as cover, then it’s a waste of a loan when we need players that can start every week. If he’s come in to start as a left winger then let’s give him a chance. Cant be any worse than the current options there.

I think you’re spot on Dave. It would be absolutely pointless in our situation to bring on a second left back to sit on the bench.
From the highlights I’ve seen Raymond looks more than capable of playing left wing, he attacks players, got pace, can tackle and put a decent ball into the box.
Would also dovetail pretty good with Ngwenya if he goes forward, he’d know to cover and sit in.
Makes sense to me but who am I to make that call, Tidsers been a manager for a year and half more than me :)

No, da_no_1? In the first half rubbish would have been generous. That simple pass he played straight out was terrible. The free kick he took when we`d just gone down to ten and we needed to relieve some pressure but he didn`t beat the first man... he wasn`t the worst and he got slightly better in the second half, but was he an upgrade on an average Ngwenya performance? So in the first half when Shaw got around the defence and Raymond made a tackle two yards from our goal line wasn’t any good. I think sometimes people cannot see the good our players do. That took speed and also perception of play to get into that saving position.

Yes parsmad68, that tackle in isolation was a good bit of covering. But out if possession he was far too high most of the game and in possession he didn`t do anything to suggest he`s any better than Ngwenya. In that first half when Morton had their best 20 minutes or so, the whole back four were all over the place. Even Chilokoa-Mullen looked a bit rattled.

An interesting take on Andre Raymond`s loan move from the SJ manager in the Courier -
Simo Valakari wants to see Andre Raymond cut out the “sleepy moments” from his game that have prevented the full-back from becoming a first team regular under the St Johnstone boss. The 24-year-old has been loaned to Dunfermline for the rest of the season with a specific aim. And Valakari believes that if Ramond’s concentration levels improve during the Pars’ relegation battle, the Trinidad and Tobago international will enhance his opportunities at McDiarmid Park in the summer.
“Andre is a great, unique character,” said the Saints head coach. “He had some difficulties to learn our way of doing things – that every single day in training you need to be at the maximum in every moment. He’s a natural kid, like a street footballer. In some moments he can be excellent, in others he can switch off. That’s why we recommended that he goes out to play week in, week out and to learn from this to play more disciplined football. There is no doubt about his quality in attacking and, when he puts his full focus and concentration in, his defending.”
Raymond was a starter more often than not under Craig Levein, who signed him on the recommendation of former Saints midfielder, Dan Phillips. He got chances under Valakari as well after the managerial change, but dropped out of the first-team picture following the January defeat to Dundee, during which he was substituted before the half-hour mark.
“Andre is going to Dunfermline with a purpose,” Valakari added. “That he needs to learn to play week in, week out with good concentration and focus and close to his best level. We had that conversation with him. We had spoken before here with clips of those sleepy moments. He said he knows that happens sometimes. The only way to get out of it is to play the games and learn it, especially the way we play the game.”
