We can do with a couple of players that can wind folk up, I`m sure Lennon does too!

Signing Easton is as much about weakening a rival as it is signing a player to strengthen us. He’ll do well for us I would think and suddenly finishing above Raith isn’t a million miles away.
Do get he’s 31 but he’s still got a good couple of years at this level until his legs go.. He’s defo not wotherspoon type who we snapped up at like 34 and wandered why he struggled.

If he has one year left on his contract then am I right in thinking that we can sign him for hee haw on a pre contract agreement in January?
If so, then why spend a rumoured six figure some on getting him this season?
Let’s go for someone else who is a free agent…
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

McMullan. Dom Thomas……( I am assuming they are both free agents).
Numerous others available ( out with Scotland ) using the data our new owners have built their business on. None of which will cost >£100k…

We upped a second offer to £120k which Raith rejected. We`ve offered him £2k a week so it looks like we`re using the dark art tricks to get him to force the move. Hopefully it works because he`d be a brilliant signing and weakens raith massively.

All the whining then folk still greet when it looks like we’re actually signing someone, only on .Net. Thomas isn’t as good as Easton and he’s not a free agent either.
If we pull off Easton, that’s a cracking bit of business. Weakens a local/top 4 rival and improves us tenfold in the final third, what’s not to like?
I’ll believe it when I see him holding the scarf right enough, but if it’s happening there’s far more positives than negatives in my book. A quality player who knows the league, and would walk into our starting 11.

I wouldn`t be fussy with this signing. He is a good player, and would improve us, and weaken RRFC, but, he`s getting on a bit, and surely if we are having to pay a 6 figure sum for someone with a year left on his contract, then that extra couple of thousand a week would be better given in wages to a high quality free agent, that might have potential resale value

Bit of a David Moss vibe about this, paying over the odds for someone the wrong side of 30 but at the same time weakening a rival.
I said a few years ago we should have been looking at him when he was at Airdrie, was the best player in that league by a country mile.

I get what you are saying, but 150k salary bracket free agents with future sell on value are most likely to be aiming higher than the Scottish championship and get snapped up by bigger clubs.
I think Easton could give us 2-3 years of pretty much guarenteed quality in an area of the pitch we lack any creativity and it`s somebody willing to play in the Scottish Championship at the same time.

I’m actually surprised people are still running with this wind-up! I just don’t see it happening, and I’ve not seen anything from a credible source suggesting we’re interested. It all seems to be coming from forum posts.
There’s no doubt that a fit Dylan Easton is one of the best players in the league, maybe even the best, and he’d definitely improve us. But I’m not convinced there’s any genuine interest from our side, despite what’s being said online.

I don`t agree with the age argument with Easton. For far too long we`ve towed the line of "buy young and sell for profit" which you can count on one hand the amount of time that`s worked and has certainly not benefited a high performing first team.
The owners want to get to the prem as soon as possible. DE is one of the top players in the league, at the peak of age performance and massively weakens a rival. If they have the money it makes sense.
I can`t name any other player in his position of his quality that is proven in the Scottish Championship that`s a free agent. NL said he wants to sprinkle the squad with proven quality. DE fits the bill.

Ill take confirmation from someone on the Raith board that we`ve bid twice and put a package lucrative to him as pretty solid credence to the "rumour". Still a 50/50 if it happens but not completely out of the picture as first thought by Raith.

Whats this belief that players over 30 are “getting on a bit”?
Footballers these days are fitter than ever, and when you look at the elites going well into and past their late 30s to play. Daft claiming they are “past it” at 31.
Will only get excited when the picture goes up on socials, till then its just fun winding up Raith fans at work.

Tell you what, there`s a lot of loose lipped footballers and board members based on this thread. If we`ve offered £120k and a £2k p/w salary and STILL failed to get him then forget about it. He`s local but I can`t imagine a 5 minute drive to East End or Rosyth makes much difference over a 20 minute drive to Starks. The only upside is that I. Dunfermline you`re less likely to come back to finding your car on bricks.

To be fair (in hindsight) we weren`t really in a position to do that with Moss, Coyle, David Graham or even offer Darrren Young such a good deal as Aberdeen club captain that he got his wee brother in on the act as well. But we did it anyway and still feeling the effects of it 20+ years later.
Money talks, where it`s coming from or how sustainable it is remains to be seen!

To be fair to Raith if they hold firm or unless he knocks it out the park this season he’ll end up staying with them for another few years after this one, only exception to this is if we go back in for him on a free.
He’s already lining up his gig after football so defo keen to stay in Fife either way.

That is my thinking as well raith will either offer him a contract extension and he accepts it and that’s an end to the matter or we approach him directly in January and get him on a pre contract means we’re not forking out silly money but also means we take their best player and they get feck all for him

A couple of poor games and their fans will be questioning if he really wants to be there (deep down they’ll know he doesn’t) and will be letting their feelings be known 😎

I`m really not fussed about Easton. He`s a good player, and proven at this level, so he`ll improve the squad, but given the numbers being bandied around here I`m wondering if that money would be better invested elsewhere.
After all our record of signing players to weaken rivals is pretty checkered..for every Andy Smith there`s a junior mendes or Davie moss.

There was a time (when we had the money) that the signing of Easton would have been a no brainer.
Andy Smith an obvious example who was pivotal to Airdrie at the time but we still got him much to the anger of Pars fans at the time but quickly diminished given his return and effort including the first goal vs Airdrie in our championship win in 1996.
As it stands today, we maybe have the money to buy him but that comes at a risk at his age not withstanding we maybe don’t have extra funds to add other quality we clearly need in the team.

Lennon says in his latest interview that we`re looking for `` a lot more`` players in various positions.
We`re trying to sign a good few and I can`t see Lennon accepting that we will abandon that due to any potential Easton fee.
I think the backing is there to make some big changes and a trasfer fee will not block those ambitions. Lennon wouldn`t be here otherwise.

Given our strong fanbase and average attendances etc, we should be able to compete financially with at least half the teams in the division (regardless of what happens with Easton). Glad we have an experienced manager at the helm, but let`s hope we don`t fk things up due to poor quality and/or limited recruitment.

I can`t believe players like Easton (31) and Moult (33) are being dismissed because of their age when you see the longevity of players now even at the top level of the game. Only a few weeks ago people were crying out for us to sign Brian Graham who`s older than either of these two players.

At the risk of continuing the theme ad nauseum, the guy behind me in the Norrie seems to favour Aldi rather than Tesco, because, like its twin brother, it`s Lidl on prices. Maybe our spying network could widen their search and persuade a quality player with a smaller price tag, who shops in a bargain basement store, to join the Pars.

Hunter78 really started all the fun when he said he spoke to DE in Tescos. After that, it was difficult for Berry and Incognito to get taken seriously, despite their claims to have credible sources.
Had it been only Berry, then it was possible to think it could have been a wind up put about by DE himself. However, Incognito claims his source was an RR board member. If so, a hoax would have to be a conspiracy between DE and the RR board man.
I think that`s most unlikely, therefore credit where it`s due to Berry, Incognito and possibly! Hunter.
Some of the posts have been hilarious, some just mingin. Unfortunately, the real informative ones got all mixed up in the bundle.

Not sure who you’re referring to.
But it is a forum, would be a bit of a boring place to frequent if we all sat patiently and just waited for everything to come through official channels and not discuss possible transfers.
Like I say though, I understand the sentiment behind the posts and going forward will not mention anything about this or any others if I hear anything, can wait it out.
It may not materialise, but thought it would be of interest to share that he was spoken to about it and that’s what he said.
There’s folk on here wetting their knickers because we haven’t signed many players so it was an attempt to provide some evidence that there is work behind the scenes.
Nowt to do with trying to be Billy Big Bawz.

It’s obvious we are short but IF we are signing about Dylan Easton and Moult then that’s a bloody good start.
I do have a funny feeling we aren’t just dealing inside Scotland but looking south as well - that’s just me though. No evidence, never heard it from anyone or asked potential player doing their weekly shop

I hope we make a decent signing soon so that they can build up their fitness, are available to play 90 minutes when the competitive games start and can gel with their team mates. In addition to hopefully improving the teams 7th and 6th place finishes of the last two seasons.

Parrot,
if neither Incognito nor Berry are fibbing, how do you think RR fans - who are no more in the know than we are - would take to the transfer talk? Unless of course all RR fans are in on the joke.
I was sceptical, but Incognito and Berry have won me over. Regarding DE, they do come across to me as sincere and not fantasizing, if that`s anything that counts on dotnet.

Our last game was 2nd May. That was two months ago. I would expect a club to have prime targets and then second and third choices, as well as deadlines. Plenty of time to sound out the players and agents and determine if they would be keen on coming. If the answer is no or I’ll wait and see what other offers come in, then move on to the next choice.

I’m not a scout, I don’t watch much other football so no idea what’s out there and at what price but there will be others we can buy or available on a free which might offer better value.
I’m sure it will be 6 figures to get Easton away from rovers.
Looks like a few weeks of chasing Easton is down the pan, we couldn’t even compete with rovers.

That`s good news for him. He seems to love the club according to his statement. If we were interested in signing him, we are probably the bottom half championship club described in the statement. My preference is to get players to EEP who want to play here. No point if a players heart and commitment are elsewhere.
He has obviously opted for the longer deal. At 31 I couldn't see us offering a 3 year deal.

The comment from rovers is so lacking in class. I assume they are referring to us, what a gang...
"Having received and rejected several offers from a bottom half Championship club..."
On the plus side, I`d say that confirms that we are putting cash offers in for players so hopefully the amount that would have gone on easton will now be used for others.

Is it lacking in class? I think it’s more of get it up ye.
The winner is Easton and his Agent they have played is off against each other.
He gets the pay hike and new deal they keep their player and give us the 2 fingers.
We go back to ponder where our strips are.
There’s no positive spin on anything over the last few weeks.
Squad is worse than last year, Kane has already been injured and we have had delays to season cards and strips.
I fail to see where we can be upbeat? This is not just about signings this is just the overall feeling the club is putting out.
There currently more life in the cemetery behind EEP

Let’s be honest, if you`re chasing one of your rival’s best players and he knocks you back, then you’ve got to expect a wee bit of a dig on the way out. That’s football. Anyone pretending they`re not bothered about missing out on Easton, seriously? He’s one of the top creative players in this league. If he signs, he instantly improves us. Anyone saying otherwise is either deluded or trying too hard to act unbothered. Once again, we’re left looking like we don’t know what we’re doing, on and off the pitch is a shambles.

That line about being a bottom-half Championship club? I’d have it pinned to the wall all week before the Derby. No better fuel for a team than to be written off like that.
I’ve no doubt Lennon will shift the mentality, he won’t tolerate standards slipping. But the recruitment side has to match that ambition. If I James bord and saw that kind of statement, I’d be reaching into the pockets a bit deeper this season. Whatever happens, finishing above Raith has to be non-negotiable.

And we`ve sold over 2600 in less time. Amazing they can afford to turn down offers and then chuck better terms and a 3 year deal for a player in their thirties. Those pies they`re selling must be crack-ing.
I`ve no clue who we should sign but would be good to see some people in asap. What I don`t want to see is the usual merry go round of the same weel kent faces. Are St Johnstone genuinely strengthening by signing some ex-Raith players? It`s not like Raith were challenging for promotion!

It`s an emotional statement from RR designed to generate a narrative about the Pars. With every problem, there is opportunity. I would agree, however, that we are in danger of running the clock down and painting ourselves into a corner for the start of the new season. Personally, I didn`t see DE as a good investment for the club and would hope that we have other irons in the fire.

Problem we’ll end up inheriting is the smell of desperation which in turn will end up players playing us like a fiddle and us overpaying them.
We need to be very careful over next few days.

We`ve played a blinder here. Forced a rival to making a bigger outlay... on a player already under contract!

It is a shame we missed out on Easton, he would have instantly improved us. We can only hope his form nosedives and the rovers are stuck paying his wages for not much back.
Hope we have a back up target to sign up identified and ready to sign.

Best post on the thread.

Who’s to say he’s even getting significantly more money? For all we know it might have just been an additional two years on top of what he’s already on. We’ve been played like a fiddle here!

Alternatively, they`ve extended the contract significantly for one of their older players as a result of pressure from the Pars. Remember the last time Raith made a fanfare about extending someone`s contract? 😂 Their release lacks class as usual (poor attempt at "banter") then they finish up with a boast about having sold a bang average number of season tickets.

Show us your list Berkey
Is Berkey paid tens of thousands a year to be responsible for scouting and attracting players?
They have every right to complain and moan about the absolute state of the club right now. Shambles for a decade now
Of course he isn`t. What a stupid comment.

I just didn`t really see how Raith were ever going to sell Easton to us for anything under a ludicrous amount for a player that`s so integral to them and especially selling to a rival.
I have no issues with them making fun of it, the club have done nothing in the last few years of championship football other than make fools of themselves, if I was a rival I`d be lapping it up as well.
Let`s hope that somehow the club manages to bring in quality, but I have to admit I`m starting to get worried by the lack of recruitment. I fear the club has tried to aim too high and players simply have gone to a club in a better position than ourselves

Was going to post the same. It’s forced them to dig in to their transfer budget and hand out a contract thats longer than I bet they wanted to.

I`m glad we haven`t paid over the odds for Easton. He`s not a bad player, but he`s hardly had a glittering career, Elgin, Forfar, Kelty, Airdrie. Raith Rovers are the biggest club he`s played for, and the biggest club he will now ever play for.
He`s played a blinder getting the fan boys that stalk him in Tesco to post on here to help him and his agent in the negotiations with RRFC. 3 year deal for a 31 year old doesn`t seem like a great deal for them.
He would have done a job for us but I think we should be setting our sights higher

Give it a rest mate. And it`s not a stupid comment so long as you keep desperately demanding he knows the valuation of players.

That`s obviously riled them.
Real winner here is Eastons (+ agent) who has played a blinder. Last big contract on the wrong side of 30 after interest from your local rivals - so assuming a bump in pay - in the current financial climate. Fair play to him.

I might be in the minority here, but the fact it’s now officially stated that we are making bids on players is a huge step forward. This time last year we had Josh cooper on trial and McPake wanted to sign him. We had to wait months for him to be signed… a part time player whose wage demands would have been nowhere near Easton’s. It shows that we are making the steps in the right direction, and still being sensible not to splash it away when it’s not right.

Yeah, this is rubbish. The Germans wettingabout over a backup player shouldn`t produce confidence in the new Board. Bords record so far has Mullen as the one good signing, the rest were complete wastes of a wage. Data analytics doesn`t work at this level

Easton and his agent played a blinder. He had nothing to lose and all to gain. His last pro contract and he maxed it by playing us against each other, and he got the added bonus of winding us up so the raith fans love him all the more.

I think this is just par for the course with contract negotiations, but in a wider context, it demonstrates what clubs are up against with players and agents and other clubs. Personally, I could never see it happening. Where would the benefit be for RR to sell DE. We are a club competing in the championship with them.
Its done and dusted. Time to move on.

The Wee Teams comment was just football banter, nothing to get your knickers in a twist about.
Our focus should be on building a squad good enough to achieve our goals. If we do that, the players who had the chance to join but chose not to will regret it.
I’ve said before I’d have liked to see Easton here. He didn’t want the move. That’s on him. Let’s make sure he regrets that decision!

Totally agree buster, we need to make Easton regret it, only way we do that is signing talented players who are proven at this level or higher and putting ourselves in the promotion places at the end of the season. We must now ensure we finish above the rovers.

Firstly, telt ye! No way they’d be left red faced like that.
Secondly, I knew this would descend into Da and or wee eck (Da’s primary account) attacking Berkey for his opinions irrelevant if they’re perfectly reasonable
