We need to turn up , get stuck in from the first whistle and get right into QP`s faces and give them absolutely no time on the ball and no tippy tappy stuff , and throw in no silly mistakes or gifts today please ! And create more chances using the wings , not too much to ask is it ? 😂

I’m not sure how a match thread titled Pars v QP needs any promise not to include any other irrelevant updates.
The .Net clique police are quick to jump on anyone who strays off topic or mentions anything other than the topic on other threads.

As for the game hopefully we’re a bit more pro active in the final third from the off today.
We can’t allow QP to settle and dictate the game too much.

No idea what to expect from the line up today, it seems NL accepts we`re playing better with 4 at the back, but who does he drop? Ngwenya seems the most likely since he`s only had a handful of games at CB in his career, but he`s the one chipping in with goals...
Gilmour, Turley and Todd seems like an ok midfield 3 on paper... Cooper has to get a start sooner or later but I don`t think he covers the ground defensively that Matty does
Praying for a Kane start (although Thomas has looked not bad)

Great to see Gilmour and Amade together as well. I`ve been impressed with Turley, but it seems like he can fit in anywhere, so he`s a good option on the bench.

I, for one, have been very grateful to those who have given an update on scores from other games in our league, as our game has progressed and I see that as highly relevant to our match. I vote very strongly that we continue such practice and not bow to the whims of the recently self appointed policeman of this thread, namely Big T par 1986.

Decent game on a tricky surface. Both teams getting forward, we definitely need at least one more goal. Very soft penalty, but we were certainly due one. Quite liking Olly Thomas, a goal from him would be nice. Vast improvement on the speed of our build-up. Some sleepy moments at the back could cost us.

Amade is a great ball winner, times his tackles well and has an eye for a pass.
Cooper been pretty good off the left too.
We’ve had a lot of good chances but finishing or final passes have cost us from being further in front.
Defence still a bit iffy at times.

HT. A good first-half performance from the Pars. We`ve produced some good opportunities, and could be up two or three. Mind you, QP have had a couple of good chances too - one header from Toderov producing a fine save from our new goalie.
Our defence looks strong and compact. Nurudeen is a worker. Amade is looking really good in midfield. He`s winning most challenges and has some lovely touches. Morrison is working well down the right, and Fraser and Cooper are combining fine on the left. After a bit of an untidy start, Andy Tod has come more into the game. Olly Thomas is proving a handful for the Queens` defence, but he needs to improve his touches. This is the best we`ve seen him.
All in all, a pretty sound performance so far. Keep it up in the second half, Pars.

Relieved to hang on, a second goal (Matty Todd, I`m looking at you) would have made all the difference. Abdulai, Ngwenya, Gilmour, Amade, Cooper and Thomas did best for me. Also good to see Robbie Fraser having a much better game. Sorry to say, the goalie doesn`t look like an improvement on what we already have, though he had one fine diving save in the second half. I suppose the main thing is we ground out the win and limited Queens to very little.

Back up to 4th in the league, and really, the game can only be described as “a hard thought win” as I found Queens Park were improved from earlier in the season.
First Half, was the DA that I want to see. I thought we moved the ball quickly and we got the ball forward in dangerous areas and were way on top of the game. Queens Park were good in the press and quite often, we got the ball out of very tight areas and still played.
A lot of my criticism recently has been how slow we have been, and playing horseshoe football….kind of going now where. That wasn’t on show in the First Half as we attacked with intent and fought for every ball.
On another day, we could have been 2 or 3 up in the Half. Thomas was working hard and being a nuisance, as was Morrison & Cooper. In the Midfield, Amade and Gilmour were pulling the string and things were happening. It was a pleasure to watch. It looked like we had a clear plan and the players implemented it well.
When the goal did come, it would probably fall into the soft penalty bracket from me (I stand corrected if replays show it wasn’t), but I don’t care. The amount we’ve had turned down and the fact it is now the end of February and that was our first, is enough for me and well done to Callumn Morrison for opening his tally.
How Todorov stayed on the pitch was beyond me, a horrendous late stamp on Abdualai should have seen him see red, but he went on to have another 4 or 5 late fouls against him. Other than a header, which hit the bar, the big Ghanaian was immense again, sweeping up and heading everything that came to him. He’s got a huge future in the game and was immense throughout the 90 minutes.
Second Half, it became a stuff affair and both teams cancelled each other out. We struggled to get on the ball and do all the things that we did so well in the First Half, but remained sold enough and never looked like conceding. I find it very strange QP fans claiming they deserved something (even a win) from the game, the did what we have been guilty of, at times, they had plenty of the ball but did nothing with it.
Thomas was fading and was replaced by Kane, and Matty Todd, Kearney, Fyfe and Tully also came on but we just never seemed to find the fluidity to really create much, but we didn’t have too.
All in all, I thought a win was deserved, and in an ideal world we would play like the First Half for the full 90, but that’s probably not realistic.
Amade, Cooper & Abdualai were immense for me, Morrison, Gilmour, Ngwema also had good games but I totally agree with the comments about A.Tod. I’m finding him so frustrating at the moment and he looks a shadow of the player who was called up for the under 21’s. If he is not scoring, at the moment, he’s not looking like a Championship player, far from it. JCM also looked ropey at Right Back, gave the ball away needlessly and I thought Fraser again looked uncharacteristically poor on the ball but did well off it.
All in all, a hard 3 points but a win is all that matters, on to another tough on on Tuesday night.

Firstly a really timely win against a Queen’s Park team who looked much improved on last time I saw them.
Teams separated in the end by a pen which Didn’t look like a pen but credit to Gilmour for selling it, the type of dark arts we just don’t have but see against us all time. First half could have finished 2-2 it was a very open game, we looked shakey at the back and struggled with todorov in the air and our keeper made a great save and they hit the bar.
We have some tidy players but gee whizz when they are off it they look like amateurs, thought mullan was very poor today, particularly in possession and the less said about Andy Tod the better. Tod in particular seems to have added diving to his game this week but he’s terrible at it. Needs to stand up and fight for the ball, and maybe make the occasional challenge in the air would be nice. Mostly an empty shirt just now but we don’t have options to give him a rest.
Found myself watching amade and gilmour in the second half as we picked up hardly any second balls and they were caught positionally numerous times. They were both guilty on numerous occasions of marking the space and not the man so queens always had a man to pass too. Not sure why we don’t push up and try marking queens centre midfielders and force them back like every team does to us. I like amade but he does struggle physically against the big players in this league.
Throw ins from us 99% of the time lead to a loss of possession and yet other teams find a way to keep possession. We’ve had this same problem for years. Same with poor decision making and a poor touch at vital times but that’s down to lacking the quality in the team where it counts.
Cooper deserved man of the match, nice touches, prepared to drive forward and importantly alway had the head up.
Thomas, Morrison and tod upfront are proving to be just too lightweight at this level. Kane made a big difference when he came on and showed how to hold the ball up and keep possession. Hopefully Morrison comes onto a game now he’s scored but unless he’s hiding a yard of pace he’s just getting eased out of everything and I can’t see a player who is an integral part of next seasons team if we have designs on progression to competing for top 3.
A wins a win though, we’ve played better and lost this season!

An important win considering a few individuals were not performing much - Andy Tod needs rested - and Morrison runs about a lot achieving little.
Fortunately the dependable players were in evidence.

For the most part I found that to be an absolutely dire, lifeless game. But we won, so it`s OK - any win against a team close to you is big and that was an important result.
We`ve seen it a lot with Lennon when we have a midweek game - midweek and the game after often see us trying to play in a way that minimises the energy we expend. It doesn`t make for an exciting game but not really a surprise to see it go that way today in a heavy run of games. We effectively spent the second half trying to defend with the ball when we had it. Although I was a bit nervous near the end, we never really looked like losing an equaliser after the scramble early in the second half and, as 1-0 wins go, it was pretty comfortable.

I thought Thomas as brilliant in the first half but faded in the second.
Tod is playing nowhere near his level earlier in the season.
Cooper had a really good game on the left too.
We should’ve been out of sight in the first half but made hard work of it in the end.
I suppose the main thing is we ground out the win and limited Queens to very little.
Roll on Tuesday.
I’d agree with that.
I wouldn’t be overly harsh on Thomas, Queens moves shape at half time and we had to adjust. He lost all service in second half.
Cooper played well but his shot at end of first half should have been on target. I do prefer us with him in the team, he’s got a little something about him nobody else has. Morrison was good. Honestly out of the starting team felt Tod let the guys roundabout him down. He gave up too many attacking opportunities with bad passes or bad touches

Good penalty today taken by Callum Morrison. Hopefully thats one of many more to come. We played well first half and missed a few chances. I thought we should have had a couple more first half. Alfons played will in midfield with Gilmour who is Mr Consistent. Alfons put a couple of good balls through their defence to create goal scoring opportunities. Olly is improving but for a big lad he is pushed off the ball to easily. He needs to anticipate a bit more but that comes with tome. JCM unusually poor today I thought. An off day perhaps. A Todd goes down to easily, his touch was poor today and decision making wasnt great. He needs to move the ball a little quiker or take fewer touches. At this syage in the season players have sussed how he plays so he needs to mix it up a bit. Overall the points were more important than the performance.

No use crying over spilt milk but I think Barney Stewart being there brought the best out of our other strikers, Andy Tod, in particular. Don`t think Andy has done anything special since Barney left and I also see that he knocked in another two against Kilmarnock today.

I felt today was a more offensive performance than recent home games but we were very wasteful throughout the midfield and forward areas.
Too often promising positions were spurned by poor touches or decision making and on another day we could have had 3 first half goals.
I think there are good things about Thomas`s game but he still has a lot to learn. Don`t know how he managed to turn a fantastic pacey cross into such a poor header. Josh looked as if he just needed to pick a spot at the far corner but missed the target.
But we thankfully saw the game out and despite recent results we find ourselves in 4th although God only knows how.
We seem to be reliant on attacking down the flanks with no real drive down the middle of the park. Maybe this will be addressed in the summer.

How did we manage to grab him on loan in the first place? Definitely a class above player and showing since the loan ended.
Shame we couldn`t extend but he`s doing the business at Falkirk so...

His distribution/decision making lately has been terrible, usually resorting to punting it the park.

If only Matty Todd had better directed that shot in the second-half. He received a perfect knockdown from Chris Kane, and he hit it like a rocket. If it had gone in, it would have ripped the net. Favourite moment in the game for me.

Unfortunately, Matty Todd went for power in what was a great chance for us to go 2 up. I was delighted to see skilful players like Amade and Cooper starting. It was also encouraging that for a change we started well with a higher tempo and a bit more directness as well as varying the play a bit more with some balls through the middle rather than always looking to go wide. Was a pity that on a few occasions we took the wrong option up front and failed to spot better opportunities to pass to someone who had moved into space and in a better position to score. As Berkey noted Cooper is one player who plays with his head up and has awareness. Again we had the odd ball in but no-one anticipating enough to get on the end of a cross ball in. A good striker anticipates where the ball is going to go and gets there. For me that is one thing Chris Kane gives us. Throught Amade and Cooper were great with Gilmour his usual consistent self. Amade made many more tackles and won the ball much more often than when he first played earlier in the season. While Abdulai again was great. He has been a wonderful signing and he is deceptively quick in recovery. Few have mentioned hime but I thought Kieren Ngwenya again also had a great game. Robbie Fraser`s final balls into yesterday were not as good as nomal. The new keeper had a great stop with his leg in the first half, and his distribution seems good, but I still am a little concerned about his ability in the air when challenged. So for me the jury is still out. I look forward to seeing the penalty incident again as on ParsTV it looked like a very soft award. However, after having so many clear penalties denied us this season it is nice to finally get one. I thought we were the better team, although Queens did on occasion cause us some problems and at 1-0 there was always a concern. We probably should have scored at least three yesterday and put the game to bed. I too have been a big Andy Tod fan for ages but I agree with others that he has not been as good as he was earlier in the season and he looks a bit tired. He also needs to stop going to ground so easily. Queens Park had been on a good run including taking a point off St Johnstone and showed they could threaten on the break. Thus was a great three points for us. Ross County also on a run so Tuesday will be tough. The Championship is such a competitive league and it is a pity that financially it is such a bad league to be in.

I think with Tod, Lennon would probably love to do what he did with his brother earlier in the season and take him out the firing line for a few weeks. Sometimes that’s exactly what a young striker needs a bit of breathing space.
The problem is, we just don’t have the depth up top to allow it. Options are that limited that we can’t really afford to rest him, even if it will probably benefit him in the long run.
He’s clearly struggling at the minute but he’s a young lad learning his trade in a tough division. That’s not easy for anyone. These runs will happen, especially when developing players.
I’ve no doubt he’ll come out the other side of this rut and be a better player for it.The key is sticking by him rather than writing him off the minute confidence dips and goals dry up.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Great result, first and foremost 3 points was all that mattered.
First half thought we played well, much more on the front foot but we have to be controlled when doing it, Queens Park had two really good chances to score thankfully the GK made a great save and the bar got in the way for the other.
Second half we looked comfortable, Queens Park didn’t pose much of a threat.
Have to say though, we still need better if we’re to secure 4th.
I thought Andy Tod was worse than a man down at times. Morrison was a bit more bright however still haven’t seen him really beat a man yet.
Thought Mullen did well tbh, few dodgy touches with the ball initially but settled - I genuinely don’t think he should be captain though, take it off him, let him just focus and enjoy playing. He’s not a very vocal lad, quiet on the pitch - doesn’t come across as a leader .
I see some positive signs from Thomas, got himself about a bit, clearly very raw though.
We need to nail the times we use Kane I think.
Amade was exceptional, think it’s the best I’ve seen him and clear MotM.

The only difference between teams in this leagie is level of consistency. As a team we are capable of beating anyone in the championship. The application against QP was much better and we looked a threat particularly in the first half. Its just about composure, decision making and awareness in the final third. Good to see we went through the middle more and tried to get into the box. Sometimes you just have to over commit in the box to get on the end of the ball

Young and Tod are different types of player. If Young isn`t scoring goals he`s contributing very little. Tod can link the play and he`s managed to score 10 League goals I think. We were screaming out for a 15-goals-a-season striker but now we want our most prolific scorer dropped!

Some of Tods touches are really really good, and there`s sometimes an awkwardness about his movement that the opposition don`t spot before its too late and he`s away. 3rd top scorer in the league - you don`t drop that from your starting 11 too often. He might need resting and come off after 60 mins or bring him on after 60 - the challenge is every game is crucial right now.
Thomas up top is doing a lot right - I fancy him to get a goal soon. hes different to Barney of course, but he is a good loan signing.
Best I`ve seen Amade play - his tackles so often were so clean and if he mucked up 7/10 he got the ball back.
Abdulai is the find of the season - maybe for many a season. We will get good money when he goes.
Fingers crossed we go on a bit of a 4 or 5 game run at the time to get in/stay in the 4th spot with momentum. I fancy us in the play offs - we seem to rise to the challenge of bigger games than the run of the mill ones better.

Tod was ok second half but was really poor first half.
Agree with Berkey, Tod hasn’t been the same player since his call up to the National team and contract extension.
Whether it’s rest that is needed or something else, he needs to find his form for the remainder of the season to be successful.

Is that the same guy who hasn’t scored a goal higher than League Two? As Eck says, they are different players, and Tod has scored in this league where as Connor Young couldn’t. Tod, okay, didn’t score, but he seemed to have some good touches and, most importantly, didn’t shy away from getting the ball. As I said, he desperately needs a rest, but we have nobody else who is good or fit enough to replace him.

He’s still learning the game, simple as that. People forget that development isn’t a straight line, you’re going to hit ruts. That’s part and parcel of it. Once he works through this spell and understands how to handle those dips in form, he’ll come out the other side a much better player for it.
It’s not all doom and gloom like some are making out. For someone who’s supposedly “not scoring”, he’s still the third highest scorer in the league. That tells you everything about the standards he’s set.
That said, I do think he looks like he could use a couple of weeks out to reset mentally and physically. Problem is, we don’t exactly have a reliable alternative to step in, so resting him isn’t really an option right now. We’re kind of stuck playing him through it. Which could have its own benefits.
I thought he actually did some good stuff on Saturday as well, his movement was there and he was linking play better. The goals will come. They always do for players of his potential.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

I have always really liked Andy Tod (ever since I first saw him play as I have also done with Josh Cooper (since Josh`s debut as a sub away at Hamilton which was one of the few games I was able to see live). Andy brings a lot to the team. Maybe a short rest might help him get back to his pre-Call up form. Perhaps he has been trying too hard. Maybe just needs to score a couple of goals to boost his confidence. However, even on one of his less good days he still does a lot for the team with his link up play.

Tod has been well off form ever since his U21 call up.
Is it a case of he thinks he’s made it and taking it easy or is it a case of too much this season for him?
A couple of times on Saturday we had counter attacks 4/3 against 2 and his decision making was awful as was his final pass.
He seems to run out of steam early in the game too.
Obviously hope in the long term he goes on to be a top player for us but recently his form has been poor.

If it was a case of him `thinking he`d made it` or `running out of steam` do you think the manager would continue to select him? What I see is a young guy still learning the professional game who perfectly illustrates NL`s warning that young players are inconsistent. The only way he is going to improve is by playing games so why not for us? If his fitness or effort is below par it should show up in his computer readings and the management would take appropriate action.
NL might have used him more sparingly if Rudden hadn`t dislocated his shoulder but, with MacLeod also unavailable and Kane`s fitness issues, he sees him as one of his best options up front.

I think both sentiments are true about Tod. His form has dipped, but he’s capable of a bit of magic every now and again. Earlier in the season (can’t remember the game) he was very quiet but then out of nowhere beat a man and rattled the post at the top corner from 30 yards. He’s very awkward to play against for defenders. I’d like to see Cooper and Morrison either side of Kane on Saturday, with Tod on for the last 30 mins if we’re struggling. For me, Cooper just looks more dangerous around the edge of the box.

I would imagine with the trackers players wear it would be quite clear analytically to see if there had been a change in effort or fatigue setting in. Heart rate, off the ball movement and recovery runs would all be trackable I would think. You don`t generally see players completely blowing out their xxxxx at any point of a game these days.
Tod and JCM have been suggested as `needing a break` but I think some of that comes purely from the way they carry themselves when the ball isn`t even in play. JCM seems to trudge forward for attacking set pieces for example. Give him the ball at his feet or something to chase and that trudge soon transforms.
That natural gait shouldn`t be confused with being tired IMO.

Looking at the revised rules here https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/media/13353/sfa_jpp-2025-26_digital.pdf on pages 171/172 suggests to me that the bookings were reset to zero in advance of round 4..... which (I think) means he isn`t suspended.
But not agreeing with GJS93 is never a comfortable position to be in.....

There used to be a list of current suspensions on the SFA website but it doesn`t seem to be available now.

Round 4 was v Hibs and Round 5 Kelty where he was booked in both games. Suspended according to those rules.
Poor that in this day and age you can’t access the list for the next round of matches

Cheers WSKs...... more evidence that just agreeing with GJS93 is always the best approach!

I was going to query about Young not being able to play for us again this season but thought better of it!

That natural gait shouldn`t be confused with being tired IMO.
Was going to post something similar. I think some are miss-reading it as negative body language, tiredness, etc. Andy Murray often looked tired between points but he did alright.
