The squad numbers are included in the line ups on the bbc page, much of what you`s expect but still a few 1-11 numbers to fill, I posted this on the "Incoming" thread:
I`m probably reading too much into this but I noticed Dibaga is number 12 & Terrell is number 40 for the season, so presumably the keeper we`ve still to sign will have the number 1 jersey...
I know squad numbers don`t mean too much, but if Dibaga was signed as first choice I would`ve thought he`d have the number 1 shirt...

I’ve always been of the opinion that a good gubbing early doors may actually be beneficial. If the manager had any doubts about certain players being up to standard then surely there should be no doubt now…
Another goalie? Probably
Another RB? possibly
Another CB? Defo. A priority
Another CM? Defo. A priority
An out and out LM/LW….Certainly.
Can we wait until the league campaign is underway to get these additions in ? Preferably not.
1/2 the bench today? Out on loan asap..

Forgot all about this today, that is a coupon buster of a result. I really don`t know what to say.
I noticed that most of the other teams such as us won comfortably today.
First game and all that but still, 3 nil to to EK is bad.
I`ve seen us have great starts to this tournament and then be bad in the league, and vice versa so who knows what will happen.
A eye opener for Lennon though.
Sounds like the keeper may not be up to scratch, but first game n all that.
Our team looked decent on paper but not in action.
Did the keeper keep the score down or was he at fault?
Did we create anything going forward?
Did we battle hard in midfield?
Are we dooooooomed?

Dibaga didn`t do much wrong or right really, was left completely at sea by his defence. Cleall-Harding and John Tod didn`t deal with anything through the middle, Kearney and Fraser had terrible performances. One of those games where everyone was poor and East Kilbride turned up.
Certainly could do with some experience in the backline and need some bite in midfield. I don`t mind releasing Hammy but you have to replace him with another battler in midfield.
In attack, just shocking. Four individuals that rarely managed to link up to produce anything and when they did the finishing was awful.
No need to hit the panic button but also don`t think you can blame anyone for being concerned at just how poor a performance that is in the first competitive game against opposition in the league below us. Hopefully can bounce back with a much better game at home to Dumbarton on Tuesday.

The last two goals were horrendous.
John Tod isn’t ready for the first team, neither is Bray, Kearney - Morrison has really been a poor signing so far as well.
This competition has come too quickly for us, as we are still short 4 or 5 players.

Our signing policy for this season has been underwhelming so far but I do t know much about Irish football so I’m no expert. I also don’t know how much longer I can say the jury is still out on Morrison for me. He’s lost a bit of pace and isn’t scoring goals really. Seems like he won’t be dropped either.

It wasn`t the best of performances, but let`s not push the panic button after one game of football.
Agree on the panic button.....
however it was one of the worst performances, never really in it, you`d hope for spells of pressure but they were non-existent.
We didn`t know whether to press or defend and ultimately did neither and rarely put one of the smallest keepers (databases have him at 6ft 2in, he was 5ft 8in at best) under any pressure.
Poor Gameplan, Lennon picked a team envisioned to have a lot of the ball, they didn`t and struggled to win any scraps.
In terms of the competition, 7 goals behind St Mirren, so going to need a barrowload in the next two to go to Paisley still with a shout of progression.

Dreadful performance. Two good centre backs, a central midfielder, a goalie and a right wing back needed urgently.
Really bitterly disappointed with not just the result but the manner in which we lost the goals. Absolutely amateur.
Nowhere near good enough.
Hope the pen gif has a busy week or two before the league starts.
To be fair, i had hoped that the pen GIF was going to be well used this week.

Anyone hear someone shout to “go back to Zimbabwe” at the new keeper today? That’s awful from whatever ringpiece said it. That’s the real embarrassment.

Today was undoubtedly absolutely awful, one of the worst matches I`ve attended in a long time but the absolute head losses from a few folk around me were quite something.
Make no mistake, the Tod brothers are firmly in the crosshairs of elements of the support as well. Fun times.

John Tod is just simply not ready to be first choice centre back. Simple balls over the top catch him out time and time again. Watching the highlights of those goals, what on earth are both centre backs doing so wide?
also, p*ss poor from Gilmour to just give up when the boy goes one on one. Embarrassing for a captain to do that regardless of the score.

It’s all well and good signing these young Irish players but you need to give them at least a season to settle in as most look way of the level we need physically and that team is a league 1 team who have just dismantled us.
Remain unconvinced my Morrison, high workrate and has chipped in with a few goals but very little quality on the ball and just too lightweight.
Ideally john tod should be out on loan, most of today’s bench should be too. We look well short of what we need and yet again Lennon has set us up wrong.

Really poor, concern is we have been near the top, and it`s very easy to go downhill, and not recover, needs major revamp of existing and new players. It`s one thing letting in goals its even worse when we can`t score.

get the cheque book out....they paid transfer fees for 3 of the 5 signings so far, all of whom started today, 7 of the starting 11 were paid for as well. Lennon talked last week about getting value for money in transfers, well the other clubs receiving the fee are and we definitely arent.
4 or 5 short? try at least double that, far too many in this squad are not at the level needed whether they are cooked or undercooked. maybe they arent ready in terms of fitness but even if they were, i wouldnt have been putting money on us winning with that line up, in that shape, with whatever "style" they were trying to play. regardless of the quality of player, we are far too easy to play against at both ends of the park
"wasn’t too surprised to see us lose but the manner is disappointing."
even the manner wasnt a surprise though, it was there last season in games when there were better players available.

I wasn’t at the game today, and didn’t watch it online so a lot of my observations are based on watching the Clyde match and last season.
John Tod has always played better as part of a back three central defenders. Looks poor when we play a back 4.
Robbie Fraser is a much better wing back than he is as a full back.
Our teams lacks ‘identity’. With good teams you can see the style of football they play and recruit players to play that style. It’s hard to see what we are trying to do, and where the players recruited fit into that style.
We lack central midfielders. We have Gilmour, and Amade and then nothing. Corbally looks a tidy footballer when he has the ball, but without the ball the game totally passes him by. When we don’t have the ball we are far too easy to play through.
Our attacking play lacks any sort of cohesion and we seem totally unable to hold the ball up.
The team lacks physicality. Whether due to being young, or the type of player we have recruited, we are lightweight.

I was a bit worried when I saw the photo of the new goalie and his muffin top belly hanging over his waistband. I`m almost twice his age, do no exercise whatsoever, I`m at the heaviest weight I`ve ever been, and I`ve been gouging out on fish suppers and Chinese food and knocking back several beers every night during the World Cup, and I`m still in better shape than that big lump.
I`d say we still are 5 or 6 players short. Need a goalkeeper, 2 centre backs, a centre midfield player and something on either wing. Probably an upgrade on Kearney too. I`ve said for years, we need a competitor like Raith`s Scott Brown and a couple more like him in the squad, guys that won`t sit back and accept sub standard performances

Lennon`s "Undercooked" is to deflect the criticism. I wouldn`t expect him to throw them under the bus in the opening cup match.
Nothing wrong with the physical preparation but plenty wrong with a possibly enforced team selection with only 2 CB`s capable of playing 90 minutes, one midfielder offering any sort of protection and two full backs who are arguably better going forward than they are defensively.
Poor organisation in terms of the press, EK gamble a fair bit in punishable areas (A.Tod ought to have scored the one time they lost it centrally in their own half, he has to hit the target from 35 yards with no keeper) but we had a half-hearted approach to pressuring them around their own box, once through that there`s so much space.
Ironically the times we did cut off any build up football they went long and scored twice, nothing to do with being undercooked just poor organisation.

I said this a few times on here last season and was absolutely shot down for it. However I standby it, I don’t know what type of team we are.
As I said earlier, I wasn’t there today but I have just seen the 3 goals….we would never score that EK first goals
Not panicking just yet but I do feel we are short of some real quality and pace.

It’s disappointing but I’m not worried by it either. It’s the first game back, the squad seems incomplete and it’s very early doors. I know it’s easy to say after the fact but I really don’t care about the league cup thing. We’ve got to be all about the league this season.
Abdulai will make a difference when he’s back but it does look like we need a No 1. Matty Todd will be missed at RWB unless we get a replacement, Kearney although good off the bench doesn’t seem like a starter to me.
I think Morrison should be offering more quality than he has but he’s quick and works hard so I think it’ll come.
I agree about the pace though, we could do with more.
I’m not sure about the lack of identity. Last season we didn’t give away a lot and had decent width in attack. I think it’s going to be similar going forward, simple but hopefully effective

I agree with the earlier comment that despite being effectively out of the running to get out the group, it will be an awakening to NL and the team that we need to get it right before the season starts.
The friendly at Kelty was a warning sign we are very weak in defence and that must be a priority.

Just watched the highlights. Pars were good for a couple of goals, but you need to take your chances. Conceded goals 2 and 3 were ridiculous. Our attack not pressing their keeper and our defense not picking up their attacker. E-K looked a good outfit and I expect them to win League 1.
There is obviously a rebuild in progress for the Pars after losing three of our best players during the close season. Another 4 or 5 signings will likely get made in the coming weeks.

when they did press the keeper, he just knocked the ball into the free man 30 yards away who had no one within 20 yards of him, happened 3 times in the first 3 minutes of the second half.
ill keep saying we need a lot more than 4 or 5 but with questions around the recruitment not just this summer, even if its only that number they are going to have to work a few miracles for it to work.

We did, but we lost 2 in the summer (Oz & Deniz).
Think we all knew how much we’d lose JCM & Ngwenya, but we’re confident that we would bring in adequate replacements. Maybe Cleali-Harding was saw as the Bene replacement and Robinson and someone in the pipeline are the JCM & KN replacements?? I think that is fair comment. Berkey also made a similar comment. He needs to be able to stand up to challenges a bit more, but that may improve with preseason training. Perhaps not try to compete physically but more work to his strengths in terms of trying to create space, try to get behind defenders and try and pick someone out with the crosses.

You’re forgetting Wanyama and a new contract to Oakley Booth which I’d add as failures. Countless English loan signings miles off as well.
Bord, Cook, Colquhoun and Lennon are involved in every signing.
I’d have thought finishing below Arbroath and well behind Thistle and St J would have been enough to understand our squad was miles off it.
The 3 cup wins were special and if we’re being honest a welcome distraction from a poor league campaign again, especially if we’re to believe the level of budget/spend we’re now incurring.

Bray…..Nope

How was I supposed to know you ignored loan players? Why would you when they are such an important part of a club`s success nowadays?
Players who may not have played in the Cup games contributed by playing in League games when other players were rested.
And what has DA no 1 got to do with this? I`m expressing my own opinion and no one else`s. Common courtesy would be welcome on this forum but it`s sadly lacking sometimes.

In response to Wee Eck
You can’t help yourself can you ?
I agree with you about some of the loans but I left them out as it was signed players I was thinking of.
Can’t think of too much of a contribution those in the jury’s out list made in our run to the cup final….
Rudden… Nope
Bray…..Nope
Terrell…Nope
McLeod..Nope
Morrison…Nope
The play offs? Sure they all contributed in some way. McLeod scored one goal so I suppose he did. But I am sure you get my drift but prefer an argument. Are you and Da No 1 related ?
Are you six years old?

Like everyone else, you want the best for your team and expectations are higher this year than they have been for a while, so it comes as a surprise to see them so inferior in every department on Saturday.
It has to be too bad to be true.
It feels like a big 3 games now before the league, the two home games become must wins or the confidence will be shot and in the St Mirren fixture they must be more competitive to start the league campaign in the best frame of mind.

I tbink we will struggle now tobqualify. I personally see these games as a warm up for the league campaign to get everyone up to speed in terms of fitness, sharpness, mentality etc. We need to avoid injuries early. Priority for me this season is to win the league and start with that mindset. I personally dont have any expectation now from this cup.

The League Cup is done for this year now 🤷🏻♂️ use these next 3 as friendlies to get players fit and used to the systems we want to play this season. If we then manage to get the results that see us through then great.

Its fair to say that last season the likliehood of promotion had passed. A 4th place finish means the odds are stacked against with respect to promotion. I could understand more the focus on tbe SC and the opportunity to get to the final.
On reflection and considering all aspects and circumstances, I think we were spread far too thinly to the point that we had to focus on too many things at once ie SC, promotion, international.duties etc. As a development club to attract players, the opportunity to play at international level has to be on the table, so is a prerequsite and non negotiable for this season. The other priority has to finish 1st or 2nd in the league. That means getting off to a good start and put points on the board. This league cup is just a dress rehearsal for that as far as I would be concerned. Set the bar high, and start how you mean to go on.

I think what happened on saturday was a bit of arrogance from the team, thinking the can rock up and just win, lenny wont stand for that and quite rightly ripped them apart in the changing room, prepare to see a mighty difference tommorow night

Badly need experience in the centre of defence, I assume Bene will be coaching the defence and must have been open mouthed at the second and third goals. I have no doubt if he had been playing both those long balls would have been headed away easily. In addition it’s a.worry that we have signed a goalie that needs conditioning which is another word for diet.
Hopefully it is just a hangover from a very difficult end to the season biggest worry for me is lennon’’s contradictory post match comments we were undercooked or over trained suggests he isn’t sure which it is. He has a lot to think about for Tuesday.

Totally agree. Forget this year’s league cup now.

Not sure how you can forget the league cup even if qualifying is unlikely, after Saturday the team needs confidence and that means two home wins and being competitive in Paisley.

"Surely a comfortable win for this one"
none of the home cup games against lower league opposition were comfortable, i wouldnt expect this to be different.
"I have no doubt if he had been playing both those long balls would have been headed away easily"
Benedictus would have done the exact same thing as what happened on Saturday, he did it in every game he played.

As a competition, we have a very unlikely scenario of qualification. Therefore instead of competing to win the group phase, concentrate on getting the team ready for the league campaign.

If Abdualai had been playing, he would have headed them away easily..but he can’t be the only 1 in the squad to do that.

Be lucky if there`s a few hundred at EEP on Tuesday night after Saturdays performance, being pretty much out of the cup already and clashing with France V Spain.

The pure athleticism of the guys at the back last year shouldn`t be overlooked.
From around Christmas the combination of their speed and power, and whenever we had a keeper who could properly organise things avoided quite a few issues.
I think there`s a lot to do to get some proper structure and organisation in place.

I am astounded that our pre season has been so bad that we are miles off a team that has just got promoted from league 2. We looked like we would have struggled against a league 2 team. Remember we got slapped down by Forfar last year?
Signings, or no signings, it just really smells of complacency. The goals we lost were awful, pub football goals for the 2 goalkeeper assists.
Meanwhile Partick, despite losing some key players, knocked in 6 against Brechin. Most teams in the division have had to do some rebuilding so I’m not really buying that as an excuse.
It took us half the season to get going last year and it feels like it might be the same again. Let’s hope NL gets this sorted asap!!

I`m not disagreeing with what you`re saying, summeragent, but it was two years ago, under James McPake, we got `slapped down` by Forfar - and by Cove Rangers. It was around that time that news leaked out that the German owners had cut the transfer budget I think. Last year, after losing to Hearts, we beat Dumbarton, Hamilton and Stirling but it wasn`t enough to qualify.

This competition has notoriously been a bad one for us. We always seem to struggle against lesser opposition, especially at home.
A club like ours can`t afford to turn its nose up at any competition or the rewards they bring. It`s a bit early to completely write it off for another year, but we`ve definitely given ourselves a mountain to climb.Tonight, we need both a positive result and a healthy goal difference, or it`s probably curtains for another year.
It`s no secret we`re a few players light to compete for the league, but I trust Lennon and Co to get us right before the window shuts.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

I will admit sacktheref I don’t have the stats on me but I think with exception of the last couple of years we’ve enjoyed playing in the group stage only maybe dropping points to the big team or drawing with the seed beside us usually it’s the 4 most enjoyable games for me in a season

In the last 10 years of group stage fixtures in this competition we have played 20 home games, winning 15, losing 4 and one further penalties defeat to Alloa.
Loses were in 2024 to Forfar and Cove, in 2023 to Kilmarnock and in 2016 to Caley Thistle. Alloa penalty defeat was in 2022.
