A competition to find our greatest song has been going on across the Greatest Hits network over the last few months. They have now settled on the final 10 which are:-
Dignity: Deacon Blue
Whole of The Moon: The Waterboys
Loaded: Primal Scream
Tinseltown in the Rain: The Blue Nile
Baker Street: Gerry Rafferty
Sunshine on Leith: The Proclaimers
In a Big Country: Big Country
This is the Life: Amy MacDonald
Black Eyed Boy: Texas
Somewhere in My Heart: Aztec Camera
Good to see my old friend and big Pars man, Stuart Adamson, in there.
I can`t see any Jambos voting for the Proclaimers or many Hoops fans for Amy MacDonald
The public will now vote with the result to be announced on St Andrew`s Day
My top 3:-
Baker Street
Whole of the Moon
Dignity
It`s bloody tough being a legend

Of the songs on the list it has to be âBaker Streetâ. Gerry Rafferty wrote some really beautiful, heartbreaking songs. Two prime examples âHer Father didnât Like Me Anywayâ and âWhateverâs Written in your Heartâ.
Hearts fans may not like it, but âSunshine on Leithâ is another really fine song.

There's a load of great Scottish artists but surprised Frightened Rabbit didn't make the cut. Never massively famous but definitely consistent.

Baker Street is a classic, but not even Raffertys best song. Still, I'd have it in my top 3 along with Dignity and The Whole Of The Moon. ACDC, with 4 Scottish born members past and present have got to be claimed as a Scottish band. Big Country had less Scottish born members or their classic line up, only Bruce

As far as I'm aware when it comes to bands it's all down to where the band was formed and not the nationality of the band members .. Ac/dc were formed in Australia... Garbage were formed in the US.

Simple Minds are another superb Scottish band but they have loads of far better songs than Alive and Kicking, sadly they'll never make the grade like the big hits would.
New Gold Dream
Hunter & the Hunted
Changeling
I Travel
Book of Brilliant Things
Ghostdancing
Stay Visible
Moscow Underground
Could go on all day.
Certainly provokes a great debate!

Sitting listening to "Wid mountain thyme" being sung by The Byrds, it was a great favourite of the American folk singers, Dylan, Baez etc.
This made me think of other standards such as "Auld Lang Syne" how many recordings of this?

Screamadelica by Primal scream was one of my favourite albums as a teenager. No mention for Andy Cameron for Ally`s Army? :)
Most of the bases have been covered already. Here`s a few I have on Spotify
Alive & Kicking-Simple Minds
Don`t You Forget About Me-Simple Minds
Into the Valley-Skids-Surprised this one hasn`t been mentioned!
Walking On Broken Glass-Annie Lennox
Obsession-Ultra Sonic
Dignity-Deacon Blue
Power of Love Q-tex
Belter-Gerry Cinnamon
Come Together-Primal Scream
Wages Day-Deacon Blue
Chocolate Girl-Deacon Blue
Loch Lomond-Runrig
Your Love Gets Sweeter-Finley Quaye
Same Jeans-The View
Even After All-Finley Quaye
Movin On Up-Primal Scream
Sing-Travis
Say What You Want-Texas
Sunday Shining-Finley Quaye
Fergus Sings The Blues-Deacon Blue
Real Gone Kid-Deacon Blue
Annihilating Rythm-Ultra Sonic
Baker Street-Gerry Rafferty
New Shoes-Paolo Nutini
Belfast Child-Simple Minds
Give Me Your Lovin-Tom Wilson/TTF
Driftwood-Travis
Fratellis-Chelsea Dagger
Calvin Harris-We Found Love
Now there`s an eclectic mix! Actually got a few more too.Was surprised by the amount of Scottish influence in my music having looked at it.Sometimes even like a bit of Gaelic music-Julie Fowlis etc
Generally not my cup of tea but Calvin Harris is the most successful Scottish artist in terms of number ones and I`d imagine money generated too?
