No defenders on the bench, only Hamilton as a defensive minded midfielder/cover at centre back. Lots of attacking options; will presumably depend on fitness but assuming Todd, Ritchie-Hosler, Wighton just there to make up numbers and will be getting a wee rest?

Bold movd if it is 442 and Chalmers/Allan are playing together in central midfield.

A wee rest?? It’s the last game of the season! They’ll have plenty of rest after tonight! We could finish 5th tonight or 7th - surely we should be going for it and getting the best team out there for the extra prize money 5th brings in!

Not a bad defence but not the best with no Bene or MFW
Midfield pretty weak.
However i feel like i no nothing about Holmes, haven`t seen anything of him to suggest good or bad. So lets see how does partnered with the experienced Kane, but i would like to have seen Tod/Sutherland start

Any deal we can put together with o’hallaran to pay a portion of his wages and move him on we should do it. No one able to offer what he’s on here would want him.
Good comeback from a team where I reckon 8 of them would be moved on if we could get them out. If we can move wighton on, Kane would be a good option, fitness issues but he’s now our top goalscorer and only joint in jan and miles better than anything we currently have.

Plenty of work needing done, disappointing first half despite the scoreline, and then the inability to manage a 3-1 lead.
Wish Deniz a speedy recovery. I sincerely hope to see him in goals at the start of next season.

Incredibly poor to blow another two goal lead against Ayr. Our major strength last season - defence, has been one of our biggest weaknesses this season. We need to address this in the summer (as well as scoring goals!) or it could be another long season. A disappointing end to a disappointing season and Deniz’s injury makes matters worse. Hope it turns out to be nothing major.
We desperately need to get it right this summer as it will be an extremely competitive league.

Just 3 points covering teams 5th to 9th. Fair enough, very little to choose between them all season - and the team finishing 9th had a better GD than all but the top 3!

Hopefully mehmet injury isn’t anything too serious.
An arguement here could be if the manager and coaching staff can’t improve mehmet to get him to command his box and try to come off his line then that’s another issue.

Aye to be fair that was a bit much. In my defence I was watching him getting oxygen and medical treatment and it was genuinely worrying watching the doctors etc treating him. He`d made 2 cracking saves previous to that, 1 of them was a great stop from Dowds shot. He has his flaws but he`s by no means the dud that Berkey and others make out.

Pity we couldn`t see it out for a win, but at least it was a more watchable game than the previous two. I wouldn`t say it was a great game, but there was at least some pace to it. Ayr probably had the better of the first half play but didn`t really make many chances from it, and I think we had 4 chances in the first half and scored 3 goals with the 4th also going in but being given offside.
Every time this season we`ve had a 2-goal lead we`ve looked pretty vulnerable, and we didn`t really get into it at all in the second half tonight. Ayr didn`t give us much space to play and we struggled a bit. Maybe we`d have got through that spell on another day, but they scored to get to 3-2 and kept going to equalise. Their second goal looked offside to me, then Mehmet had a horrible unlucky slip. Strangely, in pretty much the same spot as Joe Chalmers slipped when we were 2 goals up last time.
The shape I`d say was 3-5-2 in the first half (Holmes and Kane up front) then 4-2-3-1 with Holmes going wide left in the second half.
Not sure what happend when Mehmet went off. I didn`t see an injury earlier, but he was obviously struggling before taking that last goal kick and probably should have come off then. It didn`t look like concussion, but presumably that or one of the earlier ones must have been, for us to be allowed the extra sub.
I`m looking forward to a break from it and having some calmer weekends, but I`m sure I`ll be back up for it again when the league cup games start in July.

Entertaining game for end of season fare. Thought the score was a fair reflection on the game. KRH & TS look a real threat on the flanks. If we can keep the squad fit for next season hopefully exciting times ahead.

Given the injury crisis a mid-table finish and regroup for next season is definitely acceptable. There are though a couple of concerns, do we have an injury-prone group and when we did get players back it wasn`t a whole lot better. Fingers crossed for that "big summer".

We gained 14 points in Q1, 9 points in each of Q2 and Q3 and 13 points in Q4, so I think there is evidence that the accumulation of injuries and its eventual easing did have an effect on results.
I`m curious about the term `injury-prone` which is casually bandied about on here. Can players be `prone` to collision or impact injuries? I suppose if they play in a reckless manner they may be more susceptible to those types of injuries but do we have players like that? It could be said that Hammy`s style of play might expose him to collision-type injuries and he did suffer a facial and head injury as did Fisher but they could just be the risks run by playing in their particular positions.
Injuries like strains, pulls, tears, etc can possibly be due to inadequate preparation but my impression is that those types of injury are becoming more common in the game in general and may be connected to the great emphasis now put on `pressing` and `closing down` which gives players fewer opportunities for natural breaks or the possibility of pacing themselves. There may be players whose bodies are more likely to suffer from such injuries but I`m wary about labelling our squad as `injury-prone` as if it`s something inherent in these particular players.

Some players seem to get through a season with no injuries at all. I can`t think of too many of our squad who came into that category apart from Chalmers, maybe Edwards and Otoo until the last few games. Most of the other first team regulars have had at least one long term injury and some with several. One would definitely be apprehensive about five or six of our top players to be able to perform consistently without at least one extensive lay off.
I would imagine in the past season that we have suffered more than most with injuries to key players. It remains to be seen if next season will be better. Maybe as some of our younger players become more physically robust they will be more able to cope with the physical side of the game.

Our season of injuries continues till the last minutes of the last game!
Good to hear Denis is out of hospital and home with family. I don’t like the idea of labelling anyone as “injury prone”, just glad our calamity season is over. We all need a break now!
Finishing 6th is disappointing, but when you think of the run of many different injuries, players out of position, carrying injuries to play, young lads doing their best, it’s decent. Much improved for next season!!

It’s a bit of a trade off sometimes, in order to get the quality required through the door and in our wage structure a good player might well have fitness issues.

Just watched highlights and you would think that Mehmet had a nightmare after reading this forum last night.
First goal was Fishers fault and second one he slipped … defence posted missing.
He made two or three good saves too although I never saw the mystery penalty save that Buffy posted at 21.01 🤷♂️

He has good stats this season and that`s all that seems to matter to some for a striker. It`ll be interesting to see if PT offer him a new contract. If not, Ayr might be first in line, although it must have been Bullen who signed him rather than Brown.

Entertaining end to an up-and-down season, the Pars were surprisingly the only away team to get a point last night.
The Championship has proved just as competitive as it was in our previous stays over the past dozen or so years, with only three teams this season, the three immediately above us (Airdrie, Partick and Morton) winning more home games than away. Last night’s three goals also meant that we scored more goals away from EEP than in home games this season, a feat matched by five of the other teams.
If the management can find a way to buck the trend with a more effective tactic for home games, next season might prove much more successful, as the overall Championship finishing positions this season are almost identical to those in the table just containing home results.

Some random thoughts.
Firstly, and most importantly, I hope Deniz is recovering and there are no long term effects. It was extremely concerning at the time (the urgency of the medical teams was evident) and being asked to make way for an ambulance afterwards is never good.
Second, it’s not clear to me when the injury (I’m assuming that there was a delayed concussion) was sustained, but this suggests that he played on, not only endangering his health, but also potentially exposing the defence although I can’t see that he was obviously compromised for any of the goals – assuming that it was just an unfortunate slip for the second – (I did see him examine his studs).
Third, the authorities deserve credit for the introduction of the “concussion substitution” rule – otherwise we could have ended the season with a bit of a farce – down to 10 men with someone like Hamilton in goals and presumably Ayr trying to put him under pressure. Perhaps there would have been a “gentleman’s understanding” and a draw would have been played out at that point.
I’m not sure I’m a fan of Friday night football – it does give you the weekend off, but you are exposed to the vagaries of the transport network. There was an accident on the M8 with 40 minute delays at one point – fortunately it had cleared by the time that I passed (and a Tuesday or Wednesday would have been worse) but it’s tempting not to bother going especially when you have to get your ticket in advance. Sometimes I wonder what the reaction would be if you invited the SPFL bigwigs to a 2 hour evening meeting 100 miles from their homes with no catering.
As for the team selection – I wasn’t sure what McPake was up to – he seemed to be trying to do several things simultaneously – rest players, reward players for patience, give youth a chance (although it seems odd to prefer other teams’ players) and put out a competitive team.
I thought it looked more like a conventional 4-4-2 – O’Halloran looked to have the freedom to play quite far forward and it was MWH who was getting forward to provide crosses. I was hoping to get a longer look at Holmes – he was playing more like a “normal” forward but there was one moment where Edwards got the ball on the left and you expected him to hit an immediate cross to the back post where Holmes had made the run, but of course the cross never came. It’s impossible to tell if he was on or off for his “goal”, and I guess he’ll never score for the Pars now.
Beforehand I though the match would either be a dreadful 0-0 draw with both sides going through the motions, or else one team would concede early and go onto lose heavily so it was more than pleasantly surprising to find ourselves 3-1 up at the break, I was hoping we’d go on and win comfortably (and we did create a few chances – even Chalmers had a shot on target) so it was disappointing not to get the win.

There were a lot of bad bad goals – I’m not going to attempt to assign blame due to the circumstances but it made for an entertaining night until the end. It became rather awkward with some players giving away bits of clothing – I wondered if Andrew Tod was going to have to give away his glasses, possibly to the linesman, but sensibly he kept them to himself.
We`ve now got what, a fortnight or so before the new season and we can complain about the lack of signings?
One final comment on injuries - I think there is no question the game is faster and more physically demanding now. True, haff-time seems at least 5 minutes longer than it used to be and there are many more substitutions, but on the other side, there is loads of stoppage time plus there are all those spare balls about ensuring that the days of blootering the ball out of the stadium to get a breather are long gone.
