Could you explain to us how the recruitment process works at EEP? I`ve heard so many different versions on here I`m confused. The board/Meggle/Cook have all been held responsible rather than the manager who has never actually expressed any frustration at how things are done.

I personally think our targets have been identified and negotiations will be ongoing hence the reason for silence and the lack of urgency. The comments about budget etc and letting the likes of allan go kind of back that up.
I have noticed Logan chalmers hasn`t been announced at thistle I`m hoping we were in for him and maybe there is now some back and forth with agents etc. The GK situation is worrying because we really should`ve had a replacement lined up or else we will be scraping the barrel the longer it goes on.

Communication between the club and fans on stuff like this is very poor. They obviously can`t identify their targets but it would be reassuring for fans to hear, for example, how many signings we are planning, which areas we are trying to reinforce and how negotiations are going.
One thing that annoys me is when we hear that the board are fans too. Well if they`re fans they should appreciate that, at this time of the season, fans are eager to know what`s happening and a lack of information can affect ST sales.

The communication from the club is terrible we now seem to be relying on updates from small supporters meeting groups.
Cook should be providing a season review and then some kind of outlook for the new season.
Folk have talked about the strip and it`s been rumoured to have been stuck in customs see if the club communicated that with the fans folk are then content and would be more patient. That`s just one example

Really, why would people be having a meltdown about us not signing a player we had last year and who had say 3-4 good games where he made an impact last season? Too lightweight for me.
Of all the loans we could realistically hope and want to keep we’ve already done that deal.
Doubt we’ll be able do that much unless we can move on the usual suspects who still have a year left on deal.

I’ve said it all along our scouting seems to be virtually non-existent with our “Chief Scout” now doing multiple jobs within the club along with his personal day to day job at the council. This was so in evidence last season when we clearly brought in players that we hadn’t seen.
For a club with aspirations (I presume the board have aspirations but can’t really be sure) to have our main scout on our own bench every game instead of running the rule over opponents or targets seems very self defeating. The question has to be asked are we actually paying him as a Chief Scout etc? The more you look into it the more it appears to be an old pals act behind the scenes - an old pals act that’s not working!

When was a the last time a scout of ours identified a player and we brought them in? Surely we’re going back to the likes of Petrie and Andy Tod here?
Nowadays the management only bring experienced pro’s they know and young raw loans they likely have never seen play.
We can prob save a part time wage and do without this scout.

It is but the response was to the quote of a `scout of ours identifying a player`. I was just highlighting that in this instance it wasn`t the case and no scout of ours had any involvement. That also shows that having good contacts within the game can be equally helpful as having employed scouts, though.

And shouldn’t be, neither could get games at league 2 clubs during previous loan spells. They need game time to determine if good enough or not.
So I’d say 14, 4 players in gives a strong 18 player pool.
Today hasn’t looked out of place in any game I’ve seen.

Yep, I would say we have 14 players capable of being solid first team players at this level, supported by a few kids who can fill places on the bench and get some game time if we are short on numbers, in Tod, Sutherland, Young, McLeod. I reckon we need to bring in 5 players, a back up goalie to replace Little, probably a youngster that will need to be ready to step in. A left back to replace Edwards, hopefully Lewis Strapp. An experienced centre back that`s better than what we have, someone like Ashcroft but with a better attitude. A battler in midfield who would be an upgrade on Hamilton, maybe someone like Kerr McInroy. A midfielder who can create, possibly someone like Mochrie or Wotherspoon, preferably the former as he can develop

The whole point about developing young players is that they improve with time. You don`t write them off based on a loan spell at a young age. I remember when Jackie Macnamara first emerged at EEP. He started out as a pretty average winger but flourished when he was switched to right back.

Yep, looks like we have missed out here. Interesting move for him. Wonder if the club have even got to the stage of identifying a left back or if we will start the season with Otoo out there and Chalmers replacing him. Could be another long hard season I feel
"Lewis Strappilla on vankka kokemus Skotlannin sarjoista.

Charlie Telfer was the guy that left the rangers as a highly rated youngster to sign for Dundee United.
United were ordered to pay a couple of hundred thousand `development fee`. I remember there being a lot of back and forth about how much that fee should be, with United wonderfully playing the - `how can they have developed him, they are a new club...` card. 😂

Perhaps Paul Telfer you’re thinking of?

I didn`t see much to scare me in that list. Most of the permanent signings fall into a category of:
- older ex-Premiership player
- young hopeful from.outwith SPFL
- Championship level player
Not many loans on the list, I only spotted a couple each for Airdrie and Ayr. I suspect a lot of clubs plan on going down that route, hoping to pick up someone on the fringe of a Premiership club`s first team.

A goalkeeper to compete with Mehmet
2 defenders - that can play as centre backs or full back
1 winger - left sided
1 striker - going off Wighton and Kane being injury prone.
Below is what we have
Mehmet
Comrie, Fisher, Bene, Ngwenya
Hamilton, Otoo,
KRH, Wotherspoon, Todd
Kane
Breen,
Chalmers,
McCann, O’Halloran A Tod,
Wighton, T Sutherland,
Youth.

Would you rather the club stopped looking for players when there`s another 7 weeks available to sign them? Like it or not no manager in Scotland has their squad finalised this early. If you can name one that`s said as much then I`ll apologise

Only one i felt a bit meh about was Logan Chalmers as i felt he`d be a good fit for us doubled up with it making one of our rivals stronger, would be similar if Mochrie went to Airdrie.
Speaking to a pal who recently retired from playing and some of the bigger Irish sides are now offering money outwith what teams like us can come up with. Just a sign of the times

I`ve often wondered what the recruitment strategy would be of those who complain that we`ve only made three signings to date. In his update David Cook said these three were our first choices in the positions we wanted to strengthen. Kane signed almost immediately but the other two deals took slightly longer. Should we have said we weren`t prepared to wait and have moved on to our second choices because getting deals done quickly was more important than getting the best available? We could be facing similar dilemmas now.

Chalmers and Mochrie I know for sure. A couple of others I heard but cant confirm.
The manager a week or so came out and practically , if you read between the lines , said he was sick and tired on missing out on players. He was playing a game and trying to force thru the Wotherspoon Deal and it worked! only problem is it took up a big chunk of the remaining budget.

Having a budget to stick to isn`t the same as being `skint`. The alternative would be to agree to the terms any potential signings ask for - then we would end up being skint.
If you believe we`re skint why don`t you just take your own advice and accept it?

Raymie, he didn`t have to say which choice they were. I hate the vibe on here that, if someone at the club says something that doesn`t fit the sceptical interpretation of things, then he`s being `economical with the truth`. If a professional guy says something I prefer to believe him rather than doubt him based on unsubstantiated rumours. It`s like politics on here sometimes.

Why do people think we were even in for Mochrie? He plays in the same position as Todd and Wotherspoon (both of whom I`d argue are better players at this point in time). We also have Tod coming through from the academy in the same position. Wotherspoon was our number one target for that position so to say it`s a "joke" we never signed him is just sensationalist p**h.

I would have welcomed Mochrie as a signing but I think if we were interested in him we would have had him training with us.
It looks like we`re going to replace the five who have left - three down, two to go - and the trialist goalie and left back/wing back will probably complete that. That wouldn`t preclude signing anyone special who might become available on a contract or loan before the windows close.

Another one of Raith`s "weather reports" SM tweets gets them all erect at the possibility of signing someone big only for it to be some youth player on a 1-year deal.....

To be fair, we did the whole "it`s happening" gif and pen signing emoji a few years ago... and it turned out to be Ross Graham on loan for a year!

I`m pissed off because Wotherspoon is 34, injury prone and did **** all for Dundee United`s promotion push last season
Mochrie is 21 and scored some massive goals for them last season.
Who has the better sell on potential ?
or am I being negative again ?

I think Mochrie scored three goals last season. Part of Wotherspoon`s role is to help to bring on the younger players. Mochrie could hardly be expected to do that.

With a choice, I think a fit Wotherspoon over Mochrie. I suspect it will be a couple of loan signings. There needs to be a route for the younger players to come in.

Sign young mostly untested players with potential - not good enough
Sign experienced pro with 10+ years in premiership - not good enough

If, and it`s a big if, we were in for him then it`s a stark reality check of where we are at if we cannot offer better terms than Airdrie.

As said elsewhere I don`t think we were in for him listening to Meggle last night they seem happy with what we have up top

Does Meggle not see what the rest of us see? Some of our strikers couldn’t hit a barn door from 5 yards! Indeed that’s been our biggest failing over the last 2-3 years poor finishing, so the idea that the same strikers are going to step up leaves me scratching my head in confusion! Granted we brought in Kane but an injury prone player in an injury prone team?? Doubtful we’ll have him. For the full season and then we’re left with hoping for goals from Defence/midfield.
I saw a fair bit of Le Fondre at Hibs last season and although played as an impact sub looked head and tails over what we had/have, knew exactly where to be and not scared of having a shot on goal

Le Fondre would be a good player alright, but I`d imagine if we baulk (quite rightly) at Ayr United offering Ashcroft £1,700 a week then the money someone like Le Fondre would be after would make that a non starter

He used to be good when he was 5 but a cheeky little ***** when my son played with him at LKB and also at primary school. He played for teams 2 years above his age at that level. His dad at that point obviously thought he would make it big really early but obviously something happened to that until he went to Raith Community Club. I look forward to shouting pelters at him if he is in the first team against us.

If dundee sign Murray then Rudden will be well down the pecking order not that we would be interested. Max Anderson another Dundee player that might be surplus to requirements but again would think he would end up elsewhere.
