Makes sense to bring McKenna and Gilmour in where we are likely to have more of the ball. Gannon-Doak obviously is a no trainer in a game where we`ll need to break down a stubborn defence. I`d have changed up the strikers myself but hopefully Bowie and Hirst get a decent amount of minutes rather than a token few minutes at the end.

No idea what Bowie has to do to start, thought Clarke would have been all over him as well, looks like the mobile target man that he likes.

Last 20 qualifiers in group stages (WC 2022, Euros 2024, WC 2026):
P20, W13, D5, L2.
For the record, I don`t think we`ll qualify for the World Cup but I also don`t think there`s a better option out there who would increase our chances.

Really enjoyed the halftime stuff with McCann. Some very decent actual analysis and tactical stuff he went into with interesting detail
Meanwhile McFadden and Thompson on the actual commentary sounded like two pals watching it together down the pub.

I always think Neil McCann knows his stuff tactically and wonder why he struggled with club management. Maybe he lacks the `people skills` that are another important aspect of being a successful manager.

I was sat at a restaurant table next to him in North Berwick a few years back. I think your assumption about his other skills, is probably accurate?

Clarkโs come in and stopped the cap handout parade and actually built a proper squad with a clear idea behind it. Folk forget we went dacades without qualifying for a euros , and heโs done it twice on the spin. Performances at the finals havenโt been what weโd all want, but at least weโre there. That in itself is progress compared to the revolving door of failures we had before. And I was at every game of both euros finals the performance wasn`t great but still progress.
Hanley was excellent in Copenhagen and there are folk sitting behind keyboards questioning him who clearly donโt watch the game properly.
Wouldโve bitten your hand off for 4 points from this camp and thought we looked organised in both matches. Shows Clark can set us up different ways and the players buy into it.
Massive October coming up, but I fancy us at Hampden with the crowd right behind them.

His loyalty can be frustrating, we go into future games/campaigns risking "no experience" when we have chances to build experience in guys like Lennon Miller but we end up seeing Kenny Mclean and running guys like mctominay/mcginn into the ground by asking them to play 90 mins every game.

Our midfield 5 last night was:
McGinn (30 years old)
McTominay (28 years old)
Ferguson (26 years old)
Gilmour (24 years old)
Gannon Doak (19 years old)
I don`t think there`s any massive worry about them all retiring en masse due to old age and leaving 19-year old Lennon Miller as the elder statesman marshalling round a bunch of kids.
Also, it`s Clarke`s job to get results now. At no point (until maybe the 90th minute when Miller came on) were we guaranteed to win last night. Belarus always had some semblance of attacking threat.
If he brought on an inexperienced player with 15 minutes to go, he makes a mistake, it goes 2-1 and then we end up in panic mode and draw 2-2, there are not many people who would be looking at the silver lining of us blooding a youngster, which could yield dividends over the next couple of World Cup campaigns.
The Nations League or friendlies are better places to integrate young/new players for the first time - much like 21 year old Max Johnston, who started last night.

Whilst I agree with most of that there is no doubt Clarke has been massively helped with the Euros now having 50% more teams in it compared to his predecessors. When we qualified in 92 and 96 there were only 8 and 16 teams who qualified and now we are at 24. Under the current criteria we would have qualified more under previous managers?
