 Summer Moves 26

with leagues wrapped up for most some early movement with retained lists and moves for next season being confirmed.

Raith announce signing of John Robertson from East Kilbride. Have to say he impressed me in the pre-season game we had at start of the season (albeit a very youthful pars backline).

Dumped out of linfeild about 5 minutes after being there for being extremely unprofessional and rather lucky they just decided to sack him and not call the drug testers too.

Oh, and that he is extremely close to Edinburgh gangsters and played his role in getting a man killed.

Robertsons bank account was used to make the payment to the hitman that killed Marc Webbley couple years back on NYE in edinburgh

Robertson and Oakley will be decent for Raith if he can stay fit.

Same thinking with Dowds and Oakley at Ayr but both were constantly injured.

I think whether or not we get promoted this year, we will be looking for, and attracting a higher quality than championship level for the most part.
It will be easier than last seasons attempts at quality.

If we’re looking for a goalie, I’d be looking at Ferry from Queens Park. Hopefully we get Ox though on a contract.

Neil Lennon wouldn’t go near him. Neil likes a big goal keeper to dominate just think ferry is a good keeper just not one Lennon would look at

Looks like we will be losing 3/4 players due to being out of contract and getting rid of the deadwood like Mehmet etc.
The club has a good eye for a player like Gilmour, Fraser etc so again looking at the Hearts/Rangers boys that won’t get a game and can develop more with us…We also have a good few youth players that deserve a chance and I’m sure if they have a good pre season will be given that. Big pre season for Fyfe if we can keep him then you have GK Margetts and Young McDowell..

Not surprising for them after a poor season. No doubt the push for promotion last season presented a financial challenge this season. Clearly they will have to rebuild and in that sense are a season behind us.

I thought RR performances would tail off as the season progressed simply due to the age of the squad. Law of averages says that they will be more likely to suffer injuries either new or return of old ones, and take longer to recover. Proffessional sport at any level gets harder as the years go by, so a drop off in results isnt a big surprise as far as they are concerned.

Livi have made an early start to recruitment and no surprise that they are again raiding the ‘released’ lists of the lower English leagues where they presumably have a couple of scouts (our ex-loanee Miles Welch-Hayes being one example of a player sourced down south). With the EFL finishing earlier than other UK leagues, their ‘released’ lists are mostly already published, with some interesting names for Scottish observers. If any club is looking for a new goalkeeper, Tobi Oluwayemi hasn’t been offered a new deal at Orient and is a free agent, as is Shamal George (Wycombe) who was of course on loan at St Mirren. Looking at outfield players, ex-Dundee prospect Max Anderson (still only 25) is being freed by Crawley, with veterans Josh Magennis (Exeter), Funso Ojo (Port Vale) and our one-time nemesis Kane Hemmings (Barrow) also not offered new contracts.

^^^ Tobi must be in contention 🙏

TOBI seems to have drifted a bit with limited game time. He is from London so would want to ply his trade down there I would assume. It might be worth trying to get the Ox on a transfer if he was willing to come.

I work with Jason Talbot. He`s right decent bloke and fairly quiet lad. I find it quite funny that he`s famous for that incident beacuse it doesn`t reflect his personality at all.

Talbot only got a yellow for "the tackle" but got a retrospective 2 game ban, he was however sent off 13 times in his career, including 5 times in 35 games for Port Vale where one manager suggested his poor disciplinary record was due him being over-committed. I seem to recall him being sent off in friendly for us as well ?

Don’t think he got sent off, but the friendly v East Fife where Cardle came back, he very nearly broke my friend’s leg with a challenge.

It was an absolute shocker and should have, if not been sent off, been removed as a sub for it being a pre season game.

If players are signing for Livi this early (before the window officially opens) they must be getting offers they don`t think will be matched or exceeded elsewhere.

livi statement from today:

"The club would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Scott Arfield for stepping in to take charge of the team for the final three matches of the season.

Scott assumed responsibility ahead of our match against Dundee at extremely short notice, taking on the role with less than 24 hours’ preparation. Despite the challenging circumstances, he approached the task with professionalism, commitment and a real desire to support the club during a crucial period.

His willingness to step up when called upon reflects his character and leadership, and everyone at Livingston FC is incredibly grateful for his efforts across those final fixtures.

Discussions are currently ongoing with Scott regarding a potential combined player-coach role for the 2026/27 season. These conversations have been positive, and we hope to be in a position to provide a further update in the near future.

In addition, we can confirm that there has been a significant level of interest in the club’s vacant Head Coach position, with a high volume of applications received from both domestic and international candidates.

As the recruitment process progresses, we will now set a formal closing date for applications of Friday 22nd May, after which the club will move into the next stage of the selection process.

We thank all applicants for their interest in the role and will provide further updates in due course."

The earlier one when Bartley left suggested the football side was being run by the club/board and wouldnt be dependant on a manager being in place.

Without Deniz we wouldn’t even be in the final and he deserves recognition.
I’m not preempting any others just now but it’s a team effort and let’s give them their due reward as it’s our last game this season.

He’ll probably benefit from the extra time you get on the ball compared to the Championship. Joe Chalmers seems to be doing well at Inverness, probably due to the slower pace of the game.

John Rankin believes he has "a blank canvas" after being appointed Airdrieonians head coach.

Airdrie parted with Aaron Taylor-Sinclair, 35, following their relegation to Scottish League 1 via the play-offs and Rankin joins after a short spell as Ayr United interim manager.

Rankin, who made more than 100 appearances as a midfielder for each of Ross County, Hibernian and Dundee United, had a two-and-a-half year spell as Hamilton Academical head coach from 2022-25.

"It`s a blank canvas, I think there`s only a handful of players," Rankin told Airdrieonians` website. "Everything needs built and that`s probably the point where you think you can put your own stamp on it."

Wouldn’t want shinnie, he’s slower than a week in the jail and just a hatchet man now. Amade and Gilmour ran over the top of him at east end. He’d surely demand huge wages aswell.

Calvin Miller reportedly close to signing for hearts, and they’re after Fagan-Walcott for £750k. Also interested in Barney Stewart but surely Falkirk would price them out of that..

I’m hoping we get signing players earlier than last pre season. As the season went on it felt like it took an age for them to blend in together and gain confidence and consistency.
Look forward to seeing how the AI technology has developed and how Lennon and the club utilise the scouting network to work with it. Found a few gems already.

Is Zander Clark one we might look at if we don`t sign Oxborough?

I think some of these Killie players already have clubs lined up.

Zander Clark still has a year of his contract with Hearts to run I think.

Matty Kennedy interesting one but not really sure how he has played in last couple of years. It would be nice if we could get a winger that could play on both sides of the field. Hopefully get a few players in before we get to the Premier Sports Cup in July.

I just don’t see Frankie Kent or Baningime being viable options. They’d be great addition but so would M’bappe. In other words, I can’t see us being their best available options.

Stevie Mallan is a good player but he seems to spend more time talking to the physios than anyone else these days 🤷🏻‍♂️

I do think Tumilty is a good shout. Especially with Todd leaving and Kearney being young

If we could get the Jay Henderson from Ayr 2 years ago then yes.

The Jay Henderson from last season wasn’t exactly good was he.

Reagan Tumilty would be a good shout for RWB along with Kearney.

Jay Henderson is only 24. Maybe a good shout as well. Probably his last chance to cement himself as a full time footballer tho. I think Ross County was just an all round terrible year for that club. Managers didn’t work, huge and unbalanced squad 🤷🏻‍♂️ they seem to be back spending money though

Logan Chalmers & Chris Mochrie.

IMO those 2 would rip defences apart & provide for Kane & Rudden in the centre.

think the Mochrie rumour has come up the last couple of summers from one poster in particular on here plus already have the likes of Bray, Macleod, Cooper, Tod in that area.

dont see Chalmers and Fitzpatrick as realistic options, will have better offers plus there would have to be a total shift from 3 at the back.

I’m hoping, and sure we have been, trying to get players who have been released from the Premier Clubs and mount a title charge next season.

Our cup run in particular and the fact we have Lennon will have attracted a lot of attention.

Now I’m not saying we should be signing all these player below but as far as I can see they have been released by there clubs, or their contracts have ran out.

Each one of them would be an improvement on what has left and even what we still have in the first team.

CM - Allan Campbell (27)
CM - Kyle Magennis (27)
LW - Elie Youan (27)
LW - Charlie Reilly (24)
ST - Bruce Anderson (27)
ST - Tyreece John-Jules (24)

What ever happens thought, I can’t see us going for bog standard championship players who move each summer.

We have the nucleus of a quality team and with some fine tuning, quality over quantity, I feel a title charge is on the cards.

Pleased for McCann. They`d converted him to a wingback which he seemed to be revelling in - a bit how Ngwenya suddenly looks an unstoppable force at CB, but was a average LB at best.

Fraser - he`s got a long contract to run and we paid a fee. We`d be looking at transfer record territory for him to go, given we have no depth there at all.

That reminded me of the Cup Final Programme - there was a feature on him and it reminded me that we only got £650,000 for probably the best young player in Scotland, months after Raith got £900,000 for Stephen McAnespie who was also a RB, and absolutely cack.

Turner far better with the ball at his feet and also not afraid to leave a foot in, not as versatile as Hamilton in terms of covering at centre back though.

Think I`d like a `tasty` rumour now.
We could put all our work into the JCM and KN deals and still miss out on them.
However, I`m pretty sure Lenny didn`t fancy any of the Championship merry go round that`s happening already.

Kearney was the one I was most excited about seeing last year but it didn’t quite happen for him. I think his potential is massive but he really needs to work out how to defend to have any chance of progressing. Hopefully a breakout season for him and make that RWB slot his own. A confident Kearney and Fraser on the wings is pretty frightening.

I would think the club would be having conversations in strictest confidence, which is the correct professional approach. The fact that JCM and KN havent signed yet is a bit concerning but equally they havent signed for anyone else.

I am sure we are looking at incremental improvement this season so our signings will hopefully reflect that bearing in mind we have released a number of players.

The best thing about football fans is they will complain if they hear nothing about transfer and will complain if someone leaked all our targets and they started signing elsewhere just enjoy the ride as said above JCM and KN haven’t signed anywhere yet but my guess would be is JCM is enjoying a well deserved rest somewhere and obviously KN is still playing this season most leagues don’t kick off for another near 2 months so just relax and enjoy the ride

Doesn’t matter whether they come to fruition, it’s the fun of the close season is it not to contemplate who may or may not be coming to the Pars.

Easton a good example, whilst didn’t happen, was a good topic of conversation for a while.

I`ve always thought that, when you hear him on podcasts and similar shows, he comes across as someone who feels he should be managing at a much higher level than he has so far in his career. It sounds quite arrogant, especially given that he hasn`t really lived up to his own hype. He also comes across as very bitter about how his time at Livingston ended.

He went into a Livi team that was effectively down, and made them hard to beat, losing only 4 of his 11 games.

By the sounds of it he left Livi because they told him at the end of the season he would be given the job, then turned round and told him he had to apply for the position, along with all of his staff. Sounds like he left on his own terms after being sh@t on by the former manager.

Been told we are not focusing on any players released in the championship and talks are ongoing for players in the Premiership..source is a good one and it could take a bit of time as they have other offers. IMO we only need more experienced players in the team maybe 3/4/5 as the team is geared to get promoted next season.

Sound good hoolie, not sure who’s being upped into the first team but we’ll need a few more than 5.

Assuming Ngwenya and mullan leave and with Hamilton, Todd and likely Bene away, we need at least 5 new players ready for regular championship football instead of potential championship players once bedded in.

The drop off was massive last season when we needed to use the squad and still had a massive reliance on Kane and Gilmour etc.

Will be interesting to see who comes in and what the mix is of ready to go players and younger l players who might need a season or 2 as it will give you a feel for whether we’re competing for the title or the playoffs again.

Do we know when pre-season training starts? Our first friendly is 2 weeks on Saturday. Given how much importance NL puts on p-st you would think he would want new signings in ASAP.

Think they head off to Bulgaria again in a week’s time, for a week? Back for the Saturday game, of course.

None of the moves mentioned so far concern me. Noone where I`m thinking `i wish we`d got him..`

The England based players contracts tend to run to June 30th, so if we`re fishing in that pool things might take a little longer.

Just noticed Callum Stead has gone to Cambridge - that`s a shame he`d have been ace for us....

They might usually finish 30th June but business gets done way before then , nothing to stop free agents and out of contact players to sort out new clubs and sign contacts from 1st July.

I blame Andy Rhodes for this!

Equally nothing to stop them taking their time before making an important career decision.

If a player gets a contract he wants at a club he wants, he won`t hang around for other offers.

Well yes, but not every player is in that category. We might have made offers - but we might not be the club players want so they are biding their time and waiting to see if a club they do want comes.

It can be tricky to sell the benefits of Fife and the Scottish League to a Londoner who`s never been north of the border!

Given the window opens formally on Monday 15th - I would expect 5 or 6 next week. Scottish premier standard and a surprise or 2 from over the water somewhere

I admire your optimism. I will be pleasantly surprised if we see one or two..

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

"Given the window opens formally on Monday 15th - I would expect 5 or 6 next week"

if there are any signings/renewals announced next week it will be because preseason has started and the player is physically here like what happened last season. i hope there is some news but im not expecting "5 or 6".

"It can be tricky to sell the benefits of Fife and the Scottish League to a Londoner who`s never been north of the border!"

could stick that on players up here never mind a Londoner or players abroad, club better work some magic though or it will be "we aimed too high, they didnt come, sorry" again

From the Record -

East Kilbride, Airdrie and Hamilton are all interested in Sam Young. The centre half is a free agent after leaving Dunfermline Athletic in the summer. The 20-year-old is on the radar of all three League One sides.

Young impressed on loan at East Kilbride last season. He helped them win the League Two title. Airdrie and Accies could both offer full-time deals.

Hamilton are also hoping to sign Stuart Bannigan (ex-Ayr) and Dom Thomas (ex-Airdrie) once their transfer embargo is lifted by FIFA.

I don’t understand why folk are moaning about us not getting players in…the usual championship sides signing players from each side? We obviously are cc looking at quality over quantity now and it will take time…I expect a few trialists making their way to the training camp in Bulgaria but it’s not panic time..did Mullen go? That would be a sign if he was staying?
