Big call on that side, no real out ball with Doak missing and Hickey is much better than Patterson defensively IMO.

Worried that it`s all going to fall apart which would be a real shame seeing how invigorated the nation is about the world cup. I`m hoping that Morocco will underestimate us and that our players perform like they can and do for their club sides.

Hopefully a tactical masterclass from Clarke. Does have the worrying feel of a James McPake side where the post match interview will be all about how we `nearly got a draw`.

We`re just not all that good are we? Like Wee Eck says we`re ranked 42nd. Hatai are ranked 83rd and you could see th difference between us and them. Morocco look like they could go up another fear or two if they want. I sincerely hope I come back on later to eat my words but it beggars belief that we gave Steve Clarke another four years. Turning up just to make up the numbers is only worthwhile if you are one of the blessed few that can afford to go for a booze fueled holiday.

Wrong tactics, playing for a draw against a team with skill, and carthouse Hanley fails again.
Why do we approach so negatively.
We are lucky to only be one down, let`s get some attacking flair, and try.
This is why the manager has been good to get us here, but also very lucky, and in the finals the luck runs out.
However it`s only 1 down, and with change of tactics, and teams who knows.

We just don’t have any conviction, or anyone that can make anything happen. Gannon-Doak is supposed to be an exciting option to create stuff, but seemed hell bent on doing anything but getting the ball in the box.
And sadly we just have nothing to offer in attack. Throwing on Dykes as a target man only for him to win absolutely nothing in the air for the entire time he was on speaks volumes.

Decent wee spell about 80 min mark playing through the middle and driving at them before back to aimless punts up to Dykes.
On the plus side i thought McLean had a good impact coming on and Ferguson & Hendry were excellent throughout.

Overall I think we did pretty well - we have our limitations - we`re ranked 40 or so for a reason, so I think we gave the Number 5 in the world team quite a hard second half.
I don`t get the criticism of Clarke, Gannon-Doak, or Dykes. They all gave it plenty. Unfortunately Adams got starved, and we were careless with possession too often, which had them running at us too often.
We`re not really a flair team - we`re gutsy. Morocco are top notch. We did OK. And we`re still in with a chance of qualifying even with only 3 points - by virtue of keeping Morocco to one goal.

Honestly that was a tough game against a team that are so much better than us in every way. We done good to get to half time only one nil down. Especially after letting in a goal so early. I would like to see us approach games with a more positive attitude. We were so much better playing a 4-4-2 and a dont believe playing for a draw or trying to hang on is a style of play that suits us. We just don’t seem to get our good club players playing at their best in an international setup.
Least we’re in a spot where we hopefully go balls to the wall against Brazil and we can make them look like Cowdenbeath.🤣 there’s always hope 🤞🏻

A narrow defeat against the 5th best team in the world, but look at everyone with their anti-agendas (pick from Clarke/Hanley/Dykes/Ralston etc etc).
The fact that there`s an expectation that we could (and should) have done more says a lot about this team and the manager.

We clearly have as Morocco are higher ranked and better than Germany. Looked what happened there. 2nd half was decent.
I think decent is a stretch. It was better than the first half at least, and we had more of the ball certainly, but largely because Morocco were pretty happy to let us, safe in the knowledge we weren’t really going to threaten. And we didn’t.

The pundits on Radio Scotland are a lot more positive about the performance and result than the consensus seems to be on here. Whenever we lose a game folk come on here blaming their favourite scapegoat, blaming Steve Clarke despite the fact that his tactics and selections have got us to three tournament finals and questioning why some players were ever in the squad in the first place.
Not so long ago we were hoping we could avoid big defeats in our second and third games as goal difference could be crucial. Now it`s a disaster we lost by a goal to a team almost 40 places above us in the FIFA rankings.

Before WC started Brazil were 6th and Morocco 7th in Rankings now Morocco are 5th and Brazil 8th 🤷🏼♂️
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

I’ll give Steve Clarke credit for getting us to three tournaments, but we’ve hardly done ourselves justice when we’ve gone to any of them. Criticism for that is just as fair as praising him for getting us there.

It seems we get in a wee team mind set,and have a mental block on the field. We think we are inferior, but that is not necessarily true, but we can’t see beyond it . We don’t believe in ourselves.

Do you honestly think 3 points from our first 2 games here isn`t doing ourselves justice? What did you expect?

I`m not sure any team would take their foot of the gas in a crucial group game when only one goal up, especially when they could make up to five substitutions. They looked a bit troubled when Doak ran at them down the right and were a wee bit lucky to survive two decent penalty shouts.

None of us wanting to be dumping on our national team. Yeah Morocco are in the top ten but Hatai aren`t in the top eighty. Between the two games we managed two shots on target. By any metric that isn`t good and it`s not some grave sin to point that out. We could and should be better than we are showing.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Honestly, yes. We were honking against Haiti and arguably lucky to come away with a win. And we were not good tonight either. I want to see us play like we should be able to with some of the players we’ve got. But we’ve no ambition under Clarke, so we don’t.

And they nearly scored an OG too but “they were happy to let us have the ball because we weren’t threatening” 😂
I honestly wonder if folk watched the same game.

You’re either talking out your erse or you’re on the wind up WYPar. No ambition under Clarke.
Good grief.

You’re right, we could have had two penalties, could see those given for sure. And Gannon-Doak looked like he could be dangerous, and did put them a little on the backfoot, but his reticence to put the ball in the box when he got into a decent position summed us up as an attacking force for me.

To be fair, I just like a good moan after a defeat. Always have. I find it cathartic.
(But we were still pretty terrible ;) )

It is obvious Morocco are a better team with better players (undefeated in 24 games, 3 defeats in 63 I heard), so if we had planned on going toe-to-toe with them for 90+ minutes we might have lost 4-1, and seriously damaged our goal difference, which could decide our fate.
I suspect Clarke was using the same game plan that Lennon used in the Cup Final - keep it tight for the first half and frustrate the opposition, stay in the game at 0-0 or 0-1 and then go for it in the second half. TBH it nearly worked, and our GD is still not negative.

Someone needs to explain to me how the foul on McGinn in the box isn`t a penalty.

Here`s my tuppence worth .....
We beat a diddy team in the first game (just) and it kinda went to our heads and we (the fans) thought we were better than we actually are.
The reality is , we`re not a great side, that`s it.
We`re decent on our day , ...but our days are few and far between.
This was never going to be an easy group to get out of.
I fully expect Brazil to thump us but we might get lucky and be one of the sides that go through on 3 points.
I reckon that`s our only chance
If that happens, great.
If not , hey we gave it our best.
Here`s a question..... How many teams at this tournament are ranked lower than us ?
Would I be right in saying it`s more than 10 teams?
And we`ve beaten 2 of them (recently) in Haiti and Curacao.

Absolutely this. Some folk overdoing the criticism today. Top 5 teams defenders stopped us til late in the second half where we rattled them. 0-1 to a top sides isnt a disgrace

A narrow defeat against the 5th best team in the world, but look at everyone with their anti-agendas (pick from Clarke/Hanley/Dykes/Ralston etc etc).
The fact that there`s an expectation that we could (and should) have done more says a lot about this team and the manager.
Well said. Some folk need a cold shower.

I dont think it was. He didn`t trip him. Just nudge with the hip. Feet or legs didn`t make contact. I thought the McTominay one was more likely. Some refs might have given that.
, but it would have been soft.
