Making a packet charging the NHS for parking space and the RNLI for the use of slipways. They really are the scum of the earth. At least the Russians knew what to do with their royals

Imagine having THAT national anthem and singing it with Pride.
Meanwhile the very person you are paying homage to is stealing millions…..
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

I`ve never understood the Royals. So centuries ago some guy decided he had loads of power and was "King" of the land and then someone brought religion into and acted like he had been selected by God, and conveniently enough his bloodline would be preselected to take over upon his death.
It`s 2024 and people are singing about an unelected leader who repeatedly cheated on his wife and has an alleged paedophile for a brother.
How the hell are people still accepting this nonsense?

I`m no royalist but citing Russia as a good example of getting rid of their monarchy is a wee bit hard to swallow. Who did they get instead? Lenin, Stalin and now Putin. Don`t look at him in the wrong way or you`re sampling Novichok with your corn flakes.

There’s only one family that publicly links the two major pedophile people traffickers on both sides of the Atlantic. Good friends with both men ffs…
I’d happily vote for a republic today

Maybe Parboiled can explain it to us mere mortals. I am sure he sings the praises of the unelected money laundering greedy thieving individual that is Sovereign of England at every opportunity.
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Parboiled and BP are our resident Unionist boot lickers so you wont hear them say a bad word about the royals. As stated above they would rather blame the Labour party than King Charlie.

It’s a ROYAL anthem, not a “national” one - where else is the NA focused on the unelected head of state - not even North Korea or Iran I suspect. Time it was ditched, long since.

The human race is greatly skilled in tyranny, no matter what the political regime may be. After the Russian and French Revolutions, the UK gained much greater freedom through the non conformist religious movements, including Methodists and Baptists and our radical politicians, poets etc. We didn`t go down the violent, revolutionary road and some say that`s just as well because we were spared the excesses of Robespiere, Lenin etc.
Before that, why did the Cromwellian revolution fail? Because the mass of the population favoured a monarchy rather than a Puritan autocracy. Be careful what you wish for.
But at the end we will all be subject to the King of Kings. Heaven and Earth shall flee away, when He comes to reign. The difference with this King is that He gave up His life for us all. He died in our place. We get into His Kingdom by accepting the free gift of His sacrifice on the cross for us. Some kingdoms are worth being in. As the young American missionary, Jim Elliot said, "he is no fool, who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose".

In the words of George Orwell:
‘A French journalist said to me once that the monarchy was one of the things that have saved Britain from Fascism. What he meant was that modern people can’t, apparently, get along without drums, flags and loyalty parades, and that it is better that they should tie their leader-worship onto some figure who has no real power. In a dictatorship the power and the glory belong to the same person.
It is at any rate possible that while this division of function exists a Hitler or a Stalin cannot come to power. On the whole the European countries which have most successfully avoided Fascism have been constitutional monarchies.’

There could be something in that. In my experience royalists tend to be fairly stupid people, in need of something to belong to and willing to believe any old rubbish they are told. Fairly easy to manipulate simpletons like that. They are usually fairly right wing, so I could see how they would be right into fascism too

Paralex. What the **** motivates you to most your religious mumbo jumbo onto a thread which other than their political position as head of CoE is utterly irrelevant to a discussion about the royals?

I saw a short newsreel of the Spanish king and queen being abused by a crowd in Valencia. Maybe all is not well there.
On national anthems, you can stick the British, Scottish, and Australian anthems where the sun doesn`t shine, but listening to the South African anthem sung with emotion can bring me to tears—it is such a beautiful song.
