I`ve never understood the Royals. So centuries ago some guy decided he had loads of power and was "King" of the land and then someone brought religion into and acted like he had been selected by God, and conveniently enough his bloodline would be preselected to take over upon his death.
It`s 2024 and people are singing about an unelected leader who repeatedly cheated on his wife and has an alleged paedophile for a brother.
How the hell are people still accepting this nonsense?

But at the end we will all be subject to the King of Kings. Heaven and Earth shall flee away, when He comes to reign. The difference with this King is that He gave up His life for us all. He died in our place. We get into His Kingdom by accepting the free gift of His sacrifice on the cross for us. Some kingdoms are worth being in. As the young American missionary, Jim Elliot said, "he is no fool, who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose".

There could be something in that. In my experience royalists tend to be fairly stupid people, in need of something to belong to and willing to believe any old rubbish they are told. Fairly easy to manipulate simpletons like that. They are usually fairly right wing, so I could see how they would be right into fascism too

I saw a short newsreel of the Spanish king and queen being abused by a crowd in Valencia. Maybe all is not well there.
On national anthems, you can stick the British, Scottish, and Australian anthems where the sun doesn`t shine, but listening to the South African anthem sung with emotion can bring me to tears—it is such a beautiful song.

It is a beautiful accumulation of several languages that combines important cultural words from each ethnic group thus bringing them closer altogether.
I learned this anthem and sang it at a Scotland v Springboks rugby match at Murrayfield whilst on a first date with my now wife. The Zulu warriors performed a type of "Hakka" and the atmosphere was electric.
Scotland beat SA for the first time in nearly 50 years and I married my GF and took her to every Sco v RSA game thereafter 👍

Just spotted the opportunity Pars4life1, while considering Crooked Royalty, to point people to the perfection of the One who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who said to Pontius Pilate that He was a King but that His kingdom was not of this world. His Kingdom will last forever and unlike our present rulers, He will reign in perfect righteousness. We are told that He will return in great power and glory, that every eye (even yours and mine) will see Him and every tongue confess that He is Lord. Surely you are aware that the world we inhabit is approaching the end of it`s life span, so the present world order with its temporary rulers pale into insignificance compared to the reality of the coming eternal kingdom.

^^^ Jake, don`t know the answer to your question directly but I do know that the RAF Benevolent charity was gifted offices in central London and suspect this may be the case for other charities.

Years ago, I found myself doing a property project for a large retail bank, and there was a ‘price per desk’ that covered the annual cost of all aspects of having a desk in each city location, eg the property rental, the price for having canteens, receptions, security, infrastructure (networking cables/electrics/etc), maintenance, etc …it didn’t cover the cost of actual salaries of the workforce, but that followed a similar pattern but not as extreme.
Anyway, it was a while back, but from memory, London was more than double Edinburgh, which was in turn more than double places like Leeds

It said in the video these charities were paying figures like £18m to King Charles for offices. Seems incredible to be spending millions of charitable donations.
