 Queen`s Park game
Topic Originator: Paralex
Date:   Tue 2 Jan 20:26

Looks like we`ll be struggling for a defence on Friday. Going by the injuries today Fisher and Breen looked to have taken bad injuries. I thought both injuries came from fairly desperate defending, the first one where two defenders went for the same ball aided by a push from the Rovers boy and the second from Breen miscontrolling the ball and then overstretching. Could be a nose break for Fisher and a back injury for Breen.

Breen has a problem with his knee, according to the manager. Fisher’s injury looks bad plus concussion not long after having the same
Captain needs his thigh scanned.

We have no centre backs for the foreseeable

The season could be virtually over by the time we see Bene,Todd and KRH back. Not to mention Mcann,Breen, Fisher, Allan, Wighton and Hamilton and anyone else I have missed. Get some reinforcements in pronto.

Arbroath, QP, and ICT are all, in my opinion, worse than us and I would be really surprised if we finished behind any of them, even with the injuries. We do need reinforcements however. Board need to dig deep and back McPake.

So the likely team tomorrow is:-

Mehmet

Comrie, Hamilton, Otoo, Edwards

O`Halleron, Summers, Chalmers, Moffat,

Jakubiak, Wighton

Looks like a lineup that could do a bit of damage. No reason to be too downbeat.

I wanted to mention this After the Raith game but didn’t want to after the meltdown of other things going on.
O’Hallaron had at least two episodes of coughing during the game on Tuesday after some runs.
When Hammy went to get a bottle during an injury break he took the wrong bottle and had to throw it back. The bottles were colour coded. Potentially the reason is not to share bottles , or it could be an innocent electrolytes bottle, but I did find it odd he wouldn’t have taken a drink anyway.
I think this illness and injury situation is worse than we understand and the players look like they are playing through the pain barrier in some cases. Good luck to the lads tonight and Wishing them all the best.

Otoo gave the ball away just before Breen`s injury, was just an unfortunate collision. Otoo will give the ball away more than most as he takes the ball forward and plays more progressive passes.

I sure McPake would like to play 3-4-1-2 if we can, based on his comments I think it will be:

Mehmet

Comrie
Hamilton
Otoo

O`Halloran
Allan
Chalmers
Edwards

Summers

Wighton
Jakubiak

I doubt O`Halloran will last the whole game, if he isn`t fit to start then it will have to be a back 4. I think we`ll play well, but end up holding on to win 2-1.

If you look at the first team squad listed on COWS it includes 20 outfield players and it seems there are doubts about 10 of them. The remaining 10 are Comrie, Hamilton, Edwards, Fenton, Allan, Chalmers, Moffat, Wighton, Jakubiak and T Sutherland. Youngsters like Hoggan and Jake Sutherland aren`t included there but may be available.

We`d be struggling to put a balanced team out from that group of players with no recognised CBs, two LBs and three strikers!

It will be a patch work team tonight for sure.

Looking at our next six fixtures including this one they are all against teams we should be getting points against with the exception of the Dundee United game.

We really need players back from injury soon and hopefully a couple of new faces too. We can’t afford too many slip ups during this run of fixtures or we will be getting dragged in to a battle at the wrong end of the table.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

"Otoo gave the ball away just before Breen`s injury, was just an unfortunate collision."

that will happen 1. with players playing at this level as not every pass will be 100% accurate and also 2. when your converting a player from a CB to a more advance midfield role that he is still learning.

Breens injury was not an unfortunate collision but a prerry rash and dangerous dive into a chalenge that he made as his body shape was set to play the ball rather than turn and chase the ball that had just been nipped off him.

I get the impression some players may still be suffering from the after-effects of that virus that hit the squad a few weeks ago. As you say, TAFKA, the big pitch could be a factor and require fresh legs to be introduced later in the game.

It might be time to get Fenton a start - he made his reserve team debut against Celtic so being thrown in at the deep end may be less of a problem.

If O`Halloran is fitter, then I might keep the shape and go with:

GK Mehmet

RWB - O`Halloran
RCB - Comrie
CCB - Hamilton
LCB - Edwards
LWB - Fenton

CM - Chalmers
CM - Allan
ACM - Moffat

F - Wighton
F - Jakubiak

Subs: Sharp (GK) Little (GK), Hoggan (FB) McLeod (CM), J Tod (?) Rennie (MF). Beagley (MF) T Sutherland (F) J Sutherland (F).

I think that`s just about anyone who has ever been near the first team and the younger Tod who seems quite versatile.

If O`Halloran can`t play, then maybe we have to go with Hoggan at RWB, or play 4-4-2 with Moffat on the right, Jakubiak on the left and start T Sutherland.

It does mean playing Edwards out of position but as a senior player he may be better equipped to handle it.

I`m a bit out of the loop so I`ll just ask instead of searching through old threads. What happened to Bene and Todd? Did they come back from injury and then get injured again straight away? Same injuries or different? Is the youngster Tod injured too? As I`d been hearing good things about him. Finally, are our reserve keepers really no better than Mehmet?

I`d be interested to see a full list of injured players with rough return dates, there must be some stat freak out there desperate to show off their knowledge.

Bene came on for the last 20 minutes at Ayr last Saturday when Breen was injured but did not look comfortable by the end of the game. First indications were the injury was farther up his thigh than his most recent injury but I think they`re awaiting the result of a scan.

Apparently Todd felt something in his thigh after the game at Arbroath the previous week. A scan revealed a hamstring tear but there may also be tendon damage. He was to have a zoom consultation with a specialist in London yesterday I think. Neither injury is related to previous ones.

Young Tod has been out for some time and I haven`t seen any recent reports of his situation.

Whether the reserve keepers are better than Mehmet is a matter of opinion. Sharp has been prone to errors and Little hasn`t been tested at first-team level.

Only a member of the backroom staff would be able to answer your last question.

David Cook has promised Dunfermline Athletic will be ‘on the front foot’ as they bid to strengthen their squad during the transfer window.

But the East End Park CEO and chairman is convinced there is no need for a major signing spree in January.

The Pars currently sit fourth in the Championship after an inconsistent start to the campaign characterised by unfortunate injuries to key personnel.

Cook is optimistic the continuing return of players from lay-offs will instantly improve James McPake’s options without the need for fresh faces.

And, although there is still room in the Fifers’ budget for new recruits, Cook is not expecting a busy month.

He said: “Our objective, as always, is to try to finish a transfer window better than when we start it.

“So, we’re always assessing the market to see if there are players available or changes that might happen in the squad we have to prepare for.

“We’ve always got to be on the front foot when it comes to that preparation.
“The injuries clearing up will hopefully allow us to have a squad of players to pick from, which James has been deprived of so far.
Cook: ‘Squad is a very competitive one’

“If, hopefully, we can get clear of injuries then James will have a fuller squad to pick from.

“And I think that squad is a very competitive one in the Championship.

“Yes, we’ll always look at players being available and if they can come in at a price point we can afford.

“We’ll look and see if there are ways we can strengthen.

“I wouldn’t expect us to sign four or five, that’s for sure, but we’ll definitely look to see what availability there is.”

Dunfermline signed eight players in the summer, three of whom – Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Ewan Otoo and Sam Fisher – had been on loan at the club last season.

They were joined by forwards Michael O’Halloran and Alex Jakubiak on permanent contr

It’s becoming a shambles now. We badly need signings in and cannot afford to mess about. We cannot afford to lose this game tonight either as it could drag us back into a relegation scrap. Not one recognised centre back in the squad is a major concern.

A massive injury crisis but They’ve had days to make signings and months to identify potential signings. To end up with a team like this is brutal. Not even a player on the bench who played more than a handful of minutes.

Agree about the point above about going 442, seems strange to persist with 3 at the back.

Well good luck to our players tonight , Hopefully you will all stay injury free ,
Please can we can get our noses in front instead of us usually chasing the game
So I am Hoping we will Come out the traps and score a few Goals before Queens know what`s hit them !
One thing I do hope for is we do not give Needless Corners and set pieces away because in many games of late this has been our downfall !
let`s get the win and get back up to 4th

This is an average game for chalmers, don’t know what else you were expecting?

If the midfield could just keep the ball a bit better we could do okay in this game, lacking a ball winner in there again tho too.

They look a bit devoid of ideas, much like us, they play a lot of slow stuff that lets the opposition get organised. The minute they are more direct they look better.

The fact that we should be 1 down is worrying. Yes, we have injuries but they are bottom of the league and you can see why. Our so called big players aren`t doing enough. Until he got a knock I forgot Wighton was actually on.

The 3 players mcpake gave deals to wighton Mehmet and Chalmers are not even looking half decent in this team.

We surely have to do better in the second half as I don`t really think we can do much worse other than a few half chances.

Our only chances on Tuesday was from getting in behind have avoided that like the plague.

c'mon the pars

I think Moffat, Summers, O`Hallaron, Jak are all trying to get something going down each wing but QP are on them pretty tight. They`re not standing back watching us. Wighton is trying to make runs but he`s not enough of a target. Still, 0-0 is OK considering we`re yet ANOTHER man down - Comrie.

FOOTBALL IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH. It can’t just be me that’s sitting on the edge of my seat with significantly raised heartbeat, willing the clock to tick on.
Biggest achievement - getting to halftime at 0-0. Can we last until full time? Anybody’s guess.
Another casualty 😭 and, just before Comrie went off, Summers was limping badly. Jeeeeez!
I can feel Socks on my shoulder shouting “f*nnies” at the pishy-pashy build up ….. but what’s the alternative? Well, the alternative is the long ball out but with Edwards sending it to a Spiders player every time I’m not sure that’s preferable.
Moffat’s trying hard - that was a good wee one-two run and shot, even if off target. O’Halloran is providing a bit of steel. Jakubiak is strong but unable to make much impression on his own.
If we score it will be a miracle. Can we just keep Paton etc out until the end? Fingers crossed.

We’re having to work hard to get the ball back and then once we win it we give it away very easily.

Never mind doing more with the ball, I’d like chalmers to actually make an attempt to win it back, allan just as bad and with Moffat and summers we have nothing in there to help when we don’t have the ball.

I’d take a 0-0 and run. I know it’s a makeshift team but we started with at least 5 or 6 normal first teamers and they struggle to do the basics.

Not quite. Waves play on, flag went up, blew for the foul but it wasn`t offside. We`ll take it.

I know Chalmers is an easy target, but he`s a senior player out there tonight. He needs to step up. I was raging with him earlier # Fenton stepped up from the back with a bit of purpose and played it into Chalmers who without looking played it back to Hamilton. There`s a young player with barely any games under his belt being brave on the ball then a senior player taking the easy option rather than trying to be progressive. Ahite bag.

Absolutely diabolical by Summers ! No Excuse for that one !
We have not offered anything at all in this game
I am in the same ilk as Raymie , our best outlet is possibly a ball over the top for Jakubiak to run on to,
Or even better still let`s try and pass to our own players
Just now I cannot see a way back because we are dire but who knows ? there is still time

If we don`t sign anyone by the airdrie game then changes have to be made we can`t keep hiding behind "the injuries" barrier. Yes it`s a surreal situation but we have senior players not good enough at this level being found out week in week out. We should and if playing a better side would have been 6 down by this point and all we have offered pop shots off target but nothing apart from that.

c'mon the pars

Those saying it’s bad luck with injuries are misguided.
We have a few players already with injuries having to play in a threadbare squad and giving 💯 effort to make up the shortfall of players, ironically only adds to the list we already had.
It is extremely worrying and that’s not pointing the blame at anyone.
I would agree we are now looking to just stay up as it is a domino effect we are suffering.

Anyone who thought this would be a cakewalk against the bottom team seriously needs to give up the electric soup. Our injuries are destroying us. And even if we had the resources to sign another few players it would be a sticking plaster job. We’ve just got somehow to weather the storm and look to a gradual improvement in our situation in the longer term.

Beat tonight, results next week go against us, we then play them again. Going on tonight we could be looking at the second bottom on goal difference with them. I`d assume that`s where it`s coming from.

I appreciate the positivity and that`s important but this was honking. We really need to change something because despite injuries we had a starting eleven that could win against this frankly terrible team but we just shat it. Ironically Mehmet was our best player and that`s saying something.

As usual too little too late !
You cannot give teams a 2 goal start and expect to get something from the game, This was a pretty poor QP team we were playing tonight so it sums up how bad we were , I always try and look for positives but im afraid nothing positive to say about this game apart from only getting beat by 1 goal ! if this was a better team we were playing against we would have been hammered !!
Good Goal by Summers but it still doesnt excuse him for the one he gave away
Yes we have players out there playing with an injury or have been suffering from an illness but basics are basics and we aren`t even getting them right , How hard is it to pass to your own player ?
When I was a wee boy there was a tv programme on a Friday Night called ,,
DONT WATCH ALONE which was little horror stories
And this from the pars tonight is right up there with that !
We didn`t deserve anything from this game we were second to everything apart from the last 10 minutes ,
Another few weeks of this and we know what position we will be !!
Everyone around us is now picking up points

I think that there is very little between the bottom clubs and mid table. That is probably the concern. Very poor performance by anyone`s standard irrespective of Summers goal. We are poor upfront despite the focus on the makeshift defence. We have no punch upfront at all which is worrying.

The change putting Allan to full back was a disaster , to continue to play tippie tappie football with half a team is a poor decision , senior players let the club down , but then again most relegated us last time in the championship.

Really poor all round. The injury list is ridiculous, quite a few on the pitch carrying injuries too it looks like. Even so, the play is so ponderous and we mostly just pass it backwards. For a few minutes they got their tails up and had QP concerned, that`s not enough. At this level teams that push forward tend to get the breaks, we just pass it about then lose possession and put pressure on ourselves.

Wighton not with a bead of sweat on him at the final whistle there, an absolute charlatan.

Ohallaran - Nowhere near good enough, given very little this season if anything.

Allan and Moffat very poor tonight and gave the ball away way too often,

I`d say QP and Morton are the two poorest teams i`ve seen so far in the league. With a full stregth team or there abouts we`ll be nowhere near the bottom.

Hopefully we get some bad frost / rain / sandstorm / cyclone / typhoon / hire Dundee`s groundsman......whatever it takes in coming weeks to get some games off.

For all the talk of injuries and make shift defence i thought they did well. The `senior` players need to take much more responsibility on the ball and decision making.

The whole injury situation is past the point of being solely down to bad luck. Obviously some of the injuries like head knocks etc are unavoidable but we have to seriously look at our training and sports science regimes.

McPake must be an “utter muppet” as well then as he was critical of the teams performance and said we didn’t want it enough.

It’s understandable losing a game if we have 11 players giving it their all but there were far too many passengers tonight. Hamilton and Fenton were the only two that looked decent who played the majority of the game. Passing a ball is one of the most basic things a footballer should be able to do. The amount of simple passes we have away was staggering and a serious concern. We need players in fast to improve the team or we will struggle.

We’ve been struggling with injuries to key players for most of the season. It beggars belief that we were not able to get some players in during the first few days of the January transfer window. It’s always a difficult window, but we must act quickly to make sure we retain our place in the Championship.

Let`s face it, many of those on the injured list will be lucky to feature again this season. We are way past thinking we will be alright when the injuries subside. We need to get players in now or we could easily be in a relegation scrap. That was a terrible performance tonight. While a couple in the starting lineup were carrying injuries, that was a woeful performance against poor, inexperienced opposition. Half that team are not good enough for this division.

I would really like to see Joe Chalmers put in a proper shift, constant sideways or backwards passing. For a sitting midfielder he does not put himself about enough to win possession or bully opposition. It baffles me beyond belief people actually rate him. I feel sorry for Paul Allan cause I feel Chalmers brings him down to his level.

Of the 12 players who featured for most of the game tonight I think only Mehmet (!), Fenton and Comrie (who only played for 18 minutes) were exempt from criticism on here. Chalmers is even getting the blame for Allan not playing well! That`s quite an accolade.

I`m not going to be too hard on the players or the manager tonight. I honestly don`t think it`s fair - they`re doing their best, but that team is just never going to be competitive in most games. The situation at the back is pretty obvious but there was also a huge imbalance in midfield. The injury situation is now self-perpetuating and it was pretty clear tonight that there were boys playing simply because we had no other option. We need players back or some new players - if neither of those happen I`d be pretty sure we`ll be relegated as that team doesn`t have enough to get many points, despite their efforts.

First goal particularly frustrating as it`s one that`s been coming for a few games. Summers does some stuff well but it always just seems to be one thing too many meaning we lose the ball. I`ve mentioned it a number of times in recent weeks.

I`m absolutely not a fan of slow passing, but tonight it seemed that there just wasn`t anything there, however we played. Despite hating it, I could understand it. A couple of balls in behind early in the game looked like they might pose a threat but Wighton and Jakubiak both looked to be struggling.

I don`t feel any anger towards the team and manager, but for the first time in a while I really feel quite sad and disheartened about it all.

I said the same earlier , as I feel there isn`t much points within that team , effort alone does not win you games !
And like you at present this is not a good watch no matter how we sugar coat it , this just makes your mood low , and unless things improve quickly well we all know what can happen
Eck you are right regards 3 games in 7 days doesnt help if you have to put out players who are already injured , unfortunately this just decimates the squad even more ( if that is possible) it also shows how lucky we were with injuries last year

I`d be absolutely raging if we put that level of performance in with a full squad to choose from. Tonight I just feel a bit disillusioned by it all. Defeat to a team who hadn`t won in months. An ever growing injury list. A manager who looks completely pissed off. Owners who don`t appear to be able or interested in backing the manager with funds for signings.

Really is a grim situation

This thread makes for a depressing read.
I can`t really say anything bad about the board, manager or players tonight. The squad assembled at the start of the season looked fairly strong, but the injuries we have endured are unprecedented. In 40 odd years of following the Pars I have never seen anything like it. Possibly they do need to look at what is being done in training, (although I`m sure they have) but some of the injuries in collisions in games like we seen against Raith can`t really be legislated for.
I can`t fault the players for their determination or work rate over the course of the season so far, we have done well to be around the play off places as it stands.
When there is a bigger squad, some rotation would have happened but we have had to keep playing guys that need a break. Summers, Wighton and O`Halloran had to play tonight despite not being fully fit. That then leads to more injuries.

It`s a terrible situation for the players and management team. All we can do as fans is realise that they are having to play through the pain barrier to try and get a team out on the park, and we need to rally round too, get right behind them and battle our way through this period

QP haven`t won many games, but I haven`t seen them getting hammered much. They`re not as bad as all that. Only three teams have scored more goals than them, they`ve conceded less than one extra per game than we have. They`ve changed their manager, they`re making headway, and they had more pep than us tonight. There are no pushovers in this league.

Now look at us - we`re worse off than ever so far this season for fit players. Did we get wiped out tonight? No - Josh so nearly got us a draw. We played well below the standard of what a whole fit squad can do, but we`ve got to show some compassion to our own club. We`re suffering these days and it`s stick together time.

I didn`t see anyone not trying tonight. Saw lots of mistakes, like giving the ball away in dangerous areas. Imagine, if we just didn`t commit those simple, bad passes or dithering mistakes, improving them alone could improve us significantly.

I`d like to see evidence of quicker thinking, not getting robbed of possession, moving the ball quicker, and getting up the wings more like we used to do.

Maybe start by moving the ball quicker and with more sense of purpose.

Where is this coming from, da no 1? I`ve certainly never heard even a hint of that from the manager.

Let’s not kid ourselves here that it’s all down to the injury list. Quite frankly we’ve been off the mark most of this season, we knew our squad was light from the start of the season, However, Mehmet has shown he is a first division keeper not Championship quality (and he’s got a 3 year contract to keep us all on our. Toes and fearing every opposition attack for a few more seasons)

Our strike “force” is as potent as a man with a vasectomy! We’ve been relying heavily on our midfield getting goals. We saw it with Wighton against Raith when he flicked the ball onto Jak who burst forward and got the ball across the penalty area, Wighton should have been bursting a gut to get into the box after the flick on but nope he was just running not sprinting and another chance went a begging. We see this kind of thing too much from him, it’s beyond belief he got anything more than a 1 year contract. Jak is another whose stats show he’s not exactly prolific.

However, I’m not gonna fully blame the manager, I’m aiming it squarely at our Scouting team who is led by a man with a full time job elsewhere, therefore his scouting range seems to be the Central Belt and Football Manager, totally ridiculous for a club with ambitions of promotion (or is that actually the club’s ambition? Because they seem to be content as a championship side)

It was the charge of the lightweight brigade again last night. We have a habit of getting young loans in who lack any dig and coupled with experienced pro’s who should be stepping up at this time but also lack any dig it’s proving our undoing.

The way we play there’s no difference between when we’re 1-0 up or 1-0 down, it’s the same slow lethargic play, no surprise tho as it’s the same personnel in there and unless they have a relegation wage reduction built in the contract for next year they don’t appear to care too much. Mcpake said himself, they wanted it more than us.

I think we can lay the blame at mcpake more than any scouts we may have, clear as day the management have a strategy of signing players they have worked with previously and I include in that players they inherited here. If we had any scouts on the books I would wonder what they have doing….

I don`t even know who our scout is, so clearly plenty folk know a lot more than I do.

Think the chat about the board not being able or willing to back McPake comes from things like the McGowan saga, the Wotherspoon saga, the way they handled simple looking loan deals last season, the comments from Cook about it being unlikely there will be much business getting done etc. It seems bizarre that they gave Hughes actual cash money (you go and pay for Chalmers!) but here we have a very pressing and obvious need for bodies (almost anyone would do right now, as long as they`re fit, let`s be honest) but it looks more and more like we`ll be stuck with this squad. Which may come good in April once a few players are back, but might be bottom of the league by then.

Head scout works for the council full time and is in our dug out on a Saturday, can’t do much scouting. The lad Monty

I’ve googled Dunfermline chief scout. Now I know who the big lad is at all the games. I’ve noticed him on the park at the warm ups, but just observes and doesn’t get involved and not sure what his role is in the dug out ?

I would have expected our scout to be elsewhere on match days, perhaps compiling a report on the following week’s opponents, but I’m assuming the club must have someone else doing that?

For those not in the know, Allan has had scans this week on his hamstring and has a slight tear
on one. He should not have played last night either. Putting a career on the line to help the team out.
Some of the Forum comments are disrespectful to the players, management etc.
We have just come up a division, signed no one really from last year, albeit the loanees and O`H Have 2 more YOUTH loanees and are expected to walk the league with even all the injuries we have had. Some folk need to keep their opinions to themselves as the players do read these. We are where we are, we shall stay up even if it is by a tiny margin.
You want this squad of players to go up into the Premier league and stay up, or god forbid win the league. Reality checks all round please.

Think it was one of the worst games I’ve seen from us this season and the first where I’ve genuinely thought we could be in a bit of trouble here.

Putting injuries and need for transfers aside for a minute as that’s been done to death now, but just the general attitude and performance was rotten, I don’t understand why folk are saying they can’t blame the players, management after that particular game.

With exception to those that were playing with injury, on paper that team isn’t brilliant but it isn’t an absolute car crash either, yes some playing out of position but I’d still expect a level of performance that just wasn’t met last night.

The goals we conceded were incredibly poor, we have a keeper in Mehmet who can’t control his box and flaps at most shots, this wasn’t exactly a surprise, we knew he had a lot of this in him but we still gave him a multi year contract. He’s been at fault for a fair few goals this season already.

Edwards last night was brutal, I’m done with defending Wighton, he may have been playing with an injury but the way he plays you can never tell, not expecting to see him run about constantly but to see some level of effort would be useful.

O’Halloran just running down the channel doing nothing.

Allan shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team.

Chalmers had a cracking season I thought in League One but has been pretty poor this season, distribution last night was shocking.

Hamilton is holding his own but we’ve got the smallest guy on our team in the centre of defence..

The only players I thought did anything were Summers (who had the injury and was partly at fault for the first goal) and Moffat who equally had a poor game but at least they showed some intent at times.

They just didn’t look interested, they looked deflated, defeated and that they were going through the motions, that’s got nothing to do with the injury crisis we’ve got and McPake needs to weed that out if this is starting to creep in.

Pingfaesaline, yet another poster making stuff up. Nobody is expecting us to "walk this league", nobody is expecting us tonget into the Premiership, nobody is expecting this squad to stay up if we got there. Why are you saying this nonsense? It doesn`t do you any favours. By all means comment on the injuries and the players playing through pain, by all means comment on the lack of transfer activity (which most folk were worried if not full on alarmed about by the way) but the rest is just utter tosh.

I think we have to be careful about talking ourselves into a crisis. It can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I think everyone knows what the issues are. It`s not the issues that are important it is how, as a club, they react to them. Every problem brings opportunity. Cometh the hour cometh the man as they say. You can let your head go down or you can rise to the challenge in whatever form that takes. Like everything about where we are now and where we want to end up and what steps we need to take to get there. I`m sure that is all being considered. For example with our injury list, we may attract loan players as they know they will be playing every week. I don`t think that in a team game poor performances are down to individuals. We all make mistakes at the end of the day. It is important to reflect on those mistakes to learn and perhaps find new ways of doing things. In times of adversity you learn alot about yourself and others. What doesn`t kill you makes you stronger. In the shadow of that poor performance we probably should all rise the the challenge ahead otherwise crisis it will be.

With respect, how can anyone on here (including me) know what their attitude is? I suspect very few of us have any experience of any of them in real life. Nor have the majority of us had experience of running a business when you`re going through a run of foul luck.

What I saw was a group of lads short on confidence and for good reason. My understanding is that O`H, Allen, Wighton, Summers and Hamilton are all either carrying injury or have been ill and generally unfit. And of course we then saw two different senior players get injured and taken off in the course of the match. That`s 70% of outfield players affected. Seventy percent.

To me that negates the majority of criticism of the individuals. Sometimes in life you just have to swallow your emotions and go "it is what it is" and get on with it.

There`s a severe lack of critical reasoning on this forum. (Don`t get me started on Twitter/X) Constantly looking for blame, scapegoats, anger etc. Maybe we should all go for therapy. (I say that as someone who has been through therapy - it`s magic)

Squad didn’t have enough depth after the summer window. We then rush players back due to small squad which then sets them back even further. With all the muscular injuries we have no wonder the training methods are being questioned. Poor planning going into this window as yet again slow off the mark to get players in and this situation has been well documented for weeks now. Struggle to get players in and it’ll be relegation again

We have a squad of 23 listed on COWS which includes 3 goalies and 3 inexperienced youngsters (Tod, Fenton and Taylor Sutherland). Will this not be pretty typical for a Scottish Championship side which has no regular reserve team fixtures?

You can`t really do much to change the numbers outside the transfer windows. Were they supposed to anticipate during the summer that we were likely to have 6 to 10 players unavailable at one time for the next 6 months?

At what point did I say that? We’ve had injuries all year and constantly had young guys on the bench who aren’t ready for championship football. It was pretty obvious during the summer window that the squad was light in numbers

An ever growing injury list. A manager who looks completely pissed off. Owners who don`t appear to be able or interested in backing the manager with funds for signings.

Really is a grim situation

There are 234 players registered in the championship as per transfer market. 10 teams so average would be 23.4 so 24 would be the average but I`d imagine the number teams would like to operate with maybe a little higher.

Another few stats about our league

65 foreign players make up a share of 27.8% of the leagues players. Average age of players in this league is 25.3

A squad decimated by injuries and illness will struggle to perform well. My main gripe about last night`s game was that there were dozens of misplaced or easily intercepted passes, but I think this happens when a team is makeshift and when some players were playing while not fully fit. The team at least had a go at getting an equalizer in the closing minutes. If only Edwards` strike had found the net.

I hope 2-3 players can get recruited on loan to help with the situation. Top 4 will be out of reach, but if enough players return from injury in the closing quarter of the season, who knows.

Yes, we do need to abandon the policy the now as quite clear the young boys who came on last night aren’t ready. It’s not up to me what the squad size is but we should be pro active and realised the squad wasnt enough. Excluding the 3 young lads and minus a goalie as we simply don’t need 2 on the bench, that would
Leave 18/19 recognised first team players( can’t really count little who’s never played). Clearly not enough and that’s my opinion on it. You’re entitled to your opinion and I don’t demand that you answer stuff that you haven’t

Thanks for the stats, cammypar. Re numbers we`re just below average and with only Bene, O`Halloran, Mehmet and Chalmers aged 30 or above we`re probably one of the younger squads in the League.

I`m surprised there are 65 `foreign` players registered. Is that non-Scottish or non-UK? The only non-UK players we have are Mehmet, who seems to have dual nationality of English/Turkish and Otoo who was born here but qualifies for Ghana too. We have 4 other non-Scottish players in Little, KRH and Jakubiak (all English) and McCann who qualifies for N Ireland although raised in Scotland.

You can`t just switch a youth policy off and on. I hear what you`re saying about playing youngsters at present but that`s a completely different issue. Somehow you`ve got to strike a balance between persuading youngsters they have a future at the club without over-exposing them unfairly to a standard they aren`t ready for. It`s only happening because so many experienced players are not available.

On the other hand, glad I stuck to the day job, one rash tackle and it`s all over. The pursuit of temporal glory can be strewn with misfortune. Who`d be a footballer?

Apologies to Bene, Breen, KRH, Todd, Fisher, Otoo et al. Get well soon lads, we all miss you.

97 aye that was a bit much. Apologies.

However you can't just switch a youth policy on and off like a light because you are having a few bad results or a few injuries.

Maybe these youngsters should've been getting more game time last season when things were going well. However I can't remember that many games we were 3 or 4 up that would've allowed the manager to do so.

Did Queens Park not field a team of youngsters last night, with a couple of seasoned pros?

Yeah but to be fair that`s been their way since the season started. We just dropped 3 in last night praying they`d settle in. Fitba doesn`t always work like that.
